my compressor not working...well, its been long time installed on comp just that this the first time i open it..its not working...after i click it..nothing showup...wats wrong?

I made the switch from Windows to Mac a few years back and besides not having a HDD activity light, the biggest pet peeve I have about Apple's OS's is that they don't allow you to click on the "+" sign in the upper left hand corner of an open window to get the window to open fully or maybe it's a trick that I haven't been taught. I works when you use it while using "TextEdit" but not on other applications that I've used. They added that feature to Safari for Windows so I'm sure that it would be no problem to insert that line of code in Leopard or Tiger that would take care of that. It would be moot point to ask Apple why so my question is, does anyone know of a 3rd party app. that does that job for you? The only reason I'm asking is because it's a real time saver for me and I'm sure for a lot of others.

I'll explain the issue, even though it doesn't help you. You see, Windows does a few things as a result of historic deficiencies that it has had. Just so we're clear, these deficiencies are no longer present in modern versions of Windows, but Windows users are accustomed to the little quirks that accompany them- all of which still exist in Windows- nonetheless.
Most of these issues relate to Windows' historic lack of multi-tasking. In your case, you are used to the behaviors of a machine and OS that will only display one window at a time, one application at a time (again, this is historically, but the tendencies still exist). When Windows would only display one application window, users got into the habit of viewing and using only one thing at a time.
Another glaring difference that springs from the same historic lack of multi-tasking is the use of "cut and paste" for file system objects. Because Windows would only display one "snapshot" of the file system, in one window, some "workaround" had to be invented to allow users to move files from one place to another. Thus "cut and paste." Because the Mac OS has almost always been able to display multiple windows, and has almost always had drag and drop functionality, user were able to simply drag files from one place to another. No "cut and paste" was needed. Keep in mind that "cut and paste" is an abstract concept, not related to reality, while drag and drop is very much intuitive and realistic (when you want to move a real object somewhere, you cannot simply toss it up in the air, trusting that it will stay in some abstract "ether" until its destination is convenient. No, you must physically move it from the first place to the second, holding it in the meantime).
Getting back to your specific issue: You would be better served by getting used to the way things are in Mac OS, which is designed around the concept of having and using multiple open windows. This precludes opening windows up beyond their reasonable usefulness. This is especially true with today's modern displays, which sport high resolutions and large amounts of Desktop "real estate." I actually have my Safari window opened up a little beyond what is necessary to display any and all web pages, and it still consumes not much more than half of my display. Why would I want to open it more (it wouldn't show any more of any web page), hampering my ability to access either the Finder or some other application? Why would you? Again, you would be better served by "unlearning" your Windows habits.

Firefox has been crashing when I try to close it and now won't open at all.

For some time now, Firefox has been timing out when I tried to close it, making it necessary to "force quit." Now it won't open at all. Even more strangely, I'm not able to send a crash report to Apple (I get the message "submission failed").
I've tried downloading the newest version, downloading plug-ins, and starting in "safe mode."
Also strange, in my bookmarks section the little icons had disappeared lately.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

My Firefox will not open at all. I can't even get in to my user Profile to change that and see if it helps. All of my bookmarks and passwords are saved there!

I did a Windows update this am. As soon as that was completed, my Firefox froze and wouldn't respond at all. I had to close it out. After I tried to reopen it, and it won't open at all. Firefox 4.0 will not open at all. It shows that the process is running in the task manager but will not open the window even after closing the prcess and restarting.

I have had firefox since an earlier 2. version and have been able to upgrade as normal. After the installation is done it will not open at all. I have restarted and even uninstalled all previous version .exe and still nothing. I am using windows 7 OS. I am still running 3.6.8 and would love to see the new one running on my laptop.

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.

Firefox crashes (does not open at all) since I updated to version 3.6.4. Not even when I re-downloaded it several times. Now, even the old version doesn't start. I have a Mac OS X version 10.6.4. It doesn't show that pop up window that explains why it crashed. It just stops and quits.

In any case, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. Compressor not opening / new version not functioning

Hi folks- This is a stumper for any of you non-Intel chip users.
Short version: A new version of Compressor was installed on my G4 recently , which doesn't function properly. I tried uninstalling it, and reinstalling an older version, but the older version doesn't open.
Long version: I'm a professional videographer, and use FCP (Studio 1, 5.1) on a regular basis, frequently using DVD Studio Pro (4) for authoring DVDs, thus using Compressor (my last version was 2.3) as an intermediary.
For an unrelated project, I recently purchased Logic (8.0.2), which during installation also upgraded a few other Apple softwares in the process, including an upgrade to Compressor 3.0.3.
Unbeknownst to me, the Compressor 3.0.3 doesn't work on my machine properly, I'm guessing because it's an older machine. I opened up Compressor today for some routine work, to discover a warning that said:"The installed graphics card does not support the OpenGL features recommended by Compressor."
This warning still allowed me to open the program, but when I loaded up several files for compression, it gave me a warning, saying "Each target assigned to a job must have a setting and destination" EVEN THOUGH every item did indeed have both a destination and two settings. Hmmm...
So, I figured that since Compressor 3.0.3 wouldn't work correctly, I would uninstall it, and reinstall my older version off the FCP Studio disc. But when I did this, version 2.1 would NOT open at all on the machine. I could click the application all day long, but it won't open. Hmmm. I tried upgrading 2.1 to 2.3 through Apple's Software update, but the 2.3 upgraded to the 3.0 again. Arghh!
I'm either left with an un-openable 2.1 or a non-functioning 3.0. Any suggestions, recommendations?

Thanks for the reply, and the help. I was indeed dragging my settings onto the job itself (rather than the empty window), so I knew that wasn't the problem per se. But I'm so glad that you had within your previous post the URL to the Compressor Tutorial. Because at the very bottom of the tutorial page, I found exactly the problem I was having.
It's some strange quirk with Compressor 3--sometimes when you drag your settings onto the job, it still leaves the first line as a destination with no setting. That's what my machine was doing. It's an odd bug they should work out--and you can see what was happening on the bottom of the tutorial page you sent me.
Even so, I wasn't aware of this last night, so I had found an older support page about how to uninstall Compressor 3 (deleting files from the library folders & such--frameworks, receipts, et all), so I went ahead and did that, then reinstalled my Compressor 2.3 from scratch, and things worked well after that.
For the time being, then, I'm back to Compressor 2, but now I know that when I reinstall Compressor 3, I have to look out for that problem, and I'll know how to work around that odd quirk.

Is there any timeline soon that apple users will be able to open things that need adobe flash player? I can not even play any games on Facebook, I can't open certain files, pictures sent to me or things like forms I news to see when I am not home

I am so frustrated about Adobe Flash player. I can not play any Facebook games, open certain files and pictures and documents that I need to access because not only does this phone not do it but my old Palm Pre couldn't do it either. I have had so many times where I needed to access things either online or via email, or message that I can not even look at because of this. I have to wait until I for home or ask someone else to do it for me which is embarrassing. I rave about my iPhone 4S all the time because it is truly great except for this. When it use to happen with my Pal Pre I figures once I got my iPhone that it wouldn't happen anymore but I guess I was completely wrong. I have had this problem for years and always get a message saying that it's being worked on. Well a couple of years is a long time to work on it. I understand about contracts and stuff but why is it taking a company such as Apple to be able to get it for their products? I get a lot and always want to play the games on Facebook but I can't do it on most of them at least the ones I have tried. So I can not play against anyone at that time I have to wait until I get home or use someone else's computer or something. Please tell me that in the extremely near future that this will not be a problem anymore. PLEASE!! I am sure I am not the only one out there who is having issues and if you do get it available please let there be an upload/upgrade for current phones and not just for future versions of Apple phones. That just wouldnt be very fair to all of your loyal customers and tell everyone to get your products because they are great and end up leaving this little problem out until they by your phone. Especially if they just got the phone they have. You guys are awesome with technology I have faith that you can make this available to all Apple products old and new by uploads or upgrades. Thank you hopefully can give me some info about the status with this or if there wen is one. I would have thought that being a company such as you are that it would already be taking care of right from the beginning and not wait years to take care of somewhat that is very important ro have especially when there is so much our there using Adobe Flash now. I am not sure if this is just a blog with customers or if the company actually sees these posts but I am just hoping company or not that someone knows something about this. Itunes will not open at all

hey guys,
ever since I've reinstalled my pc with windows xp pro sp3, my itunes will not open at all.
every time i click on itunes.exe it does not do anything. It does give me the hourglass icon as if my pc is working on it. but then it disappears without any itunes response.
to fix this issue, I have tried any possible method that i could find on the internet. even called the support center but they were not able to help me either.
I have tried to reinstall itunes *(no effect)*
did something with the cryptographic something in the administrative tools menu *(no effect)*
I have deleted the itunes installer cache *(no effect)*
I installed any older versions,( btw 7 does not work either)but after updating it *(no effect)*
itunes 6 does work; but since i have an iphone it is completely useless for me. so *(no effect)*
the strange thing is that itunes.exe does appear in the "processes" tab in task manager, but it does not show in the "applications" tab.
and every time I shut down my pc, I get the windows message that itunes is shutting down.
If you have any other suggestions, please be so kind help me.
this is driving me nuts. It's been going on for two months now.

I am not sure if I have this right from all those posts.
When you try to start iTunes, there is no error message and you can see iTunes.exe persisting on the processes tab of the task manager.
If that is your probelm it is commonly do to a problem with cryptographic services.
Before looking into that there is a quick thing to try:

Make a careful note of any error messages you get, this is important. post back the names of any dlls mentioned in error messages.
If you don't get any error messages try starting iTunes.

I'm using Vista, 32 bit - not even downloading the beta version of Firefox 4 helps; it downloads (just like the regular version of Firefox, 3.4) and I can install it, but trying to run it gives me nothing - no warning, no text; it just doesn't open up, but is still visible in my start menu, programs folder and in task manager. And not even profile manager opens up.

Make sure that you do not remove your personal data when you uninstall Firefox. Then you won't lose personal data stored in a different location in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder].

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks Firefox. 
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs. 
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware. 
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

I've used FF for years, today it will not open at all on same computer can't sign in bec when I registered Mozilla didn't send me confirmation email I used it on this am.

I added a few add-ons yesterday to FF (I'm on current version). No problem. FF opened normally today until I added a new "user" to my laptop. After that, FF does not open at all, even from my original user account, which is the administrator. I don't think it was the add-ons, but I'm not sure. I deleted the new user account, turned the computer off/on again, rebooted (numerous times) and still FF will not open for me. The FF file is still in the computer (program list), and I still have the icons and it's in the tray. I have a Dell Studio, only 1-1/2 years old, use FF exclusively as my default browser.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
