Compressor problem.  transcode failed

Hi,
I'm using Compressor to transcode H.264 footage from a Canon DSLR to apple prorez 422 LT.  Dragged in several clips to compressor, added settings and destination.  Hit submit.  Went to sleep. Came back in morning and transcode had FAILED.  Tried again with a very short clip.  No progress was made in "time remaining" window -- no time even came up, and the progress bar did not start turning blue at all.  Finally i cancelled the operation.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you,
Eve

If you continue to get the 3X Crash error after following the advice you've got in this thread, my suggestion would be to download another one of Digital Rebellion's products – Pro Maintenance Tools. PMT has a Crash Analyzer that reports causes and recommendations. It's a paid app (suite of apps) but you can download a short trial.
The error means that the Compressor Transcoder has failed (ya think?) and it's not one of the more obvious ones to sort. The one time I had it was fixed by uninstalling Perian; I must have read about a conflict somewhere,

  • Why do I get a "Transcode Failed" message?

    Dear friends on the forum;
I have created a complex project in Encore with several levels.  It starts off with an opening menu whose choices are two video files and a link to a sub-menu.  This sub-menu then offers links to several sub-sub menus which, in turn, offer links to a number of video files each.  We are talking a total of 25 movies in all; some short (a minute and a half) some long (90minutes).   The Encore file is on my computer's hard drive and the relevant video files are on an external hard drive, accessed by USB cable.  I have created other DVDs in the past using this arrangement with no trouble.  Why am I having problems now?   Is it because of the complexity of this project?  The total size of these files is about 3 1/2 gb--not too big for the DVD.  I checked the project before clicking "Build" and no problems surfaced.    I am running a Hewlett-Packard HPE-470f computer with a 64-bit Windows 7 o/s.  I have an AMD processor with 3.2 ghz and 8gb of RAM.
Can anyone help me with this?  Many thanks!
    Regards, Lewis

That gives me lots of grist for my mill, John.  Thanks!

Subject: Why do I get a "Transcode Failed" message?
I skipped from CS3 (Pentium 4 CPU with 2Gig system ram and 2 hard drives... very slow, but it worked OK for AVI files and overnight Encore encoding) to a new computer for CS5 - read http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0
Since upgrading to CS5 from CS5 may mean a new computer, I can't really advise you on that
The Windows swap or paging file is where Windows puts things that it needs quick access to... sorta like you put your wallet in your pocket instead of in your dresser drawer, so you have it handy to pay at the grocery store
The idea is to "spread the load" so no one hard drive is working too hard and becomes bogged down
Video editing, like "high end" gaming, requires a LOT of computing power
My previous computer worked for CS3 and AVI... I had to build a new computer for CS5 and AVCHD files
You should (in my opinion) add a 2nd internal 7200rpm hard drive (never a "green" drive... too slow for video editing) and keep your boot drive for only Windows and software... this is the minimum (again, my opinion... but go read in the hardware sub-forum)
Read Harm on drive setup http://forums.adobe.com/thread/662972?tstart=0
    - click the embedded picture in Harm's message to enlarge to reading size
    - you need AT LEAST 2 drives for video editing, 3 is better
    - some HD formats work better with (require) RAID

There were no error codes.  I went to the download site and started to download. Popup window appeared and then when I clicked on save, the window disappeared, but no download appeared in the download folder.

  • Jerky Export - FCP or Compressor Problem?

I have a 20-second sequence using the maximum zoom in. The background trees swaying in the breeze are "bumpy" or seem to be dropping frames once exported and burned to DVD. It seems the video in full zoom can't keep up with them. Yet the scene looks fine when played in Final Cut Pro, which does not display any dropped frames or struggling to produce smooth video in this sequence. But once exported to Compression it gets rough in spots and gives the jumpy illusion of dropping frames.
Not sure if it's a FCP or Compressor problem. Any suggestions?

Translation problem on your end or ours?
Burn to DVD? You mean you encoded to MPEF2 for playback on a set top DVD or you burned your QT to a DVD? H-U-G-E difference.
MPEG2 hates that kind of detail and fine motion. Of course it's going to skip and jump unless you very carefully tweak the encoding settings. Very carefully. There are entire books written on how to do that, how to get the best possible compression. The defaults in Compressor just don't do it for you, they are strictly generic but totally applicable to 90% of what you throw at it.

  • Motion 3, DVD Studio Pro 3, Compressor...fail to display interface

Macbook Pro C2D, Leopard OS X 10.5.1. All apps were running perfectly before this happened...
First, all the apps of Final Cut Studio 2 crashed on startup.
I recall that the last thing I did is trashing the newly installed trail version Aperture.
After checking the crashing log, I found the problem comes from Prokit.framework. I did a thorough search, the answer is quite clear that the Prokit.framework comes with Aperture 1.5.2 is a PPC version, it replaced the intel version that was in my OS. So the solution is replacing the PPC version back to Prokit for Intel. Finally I found some provided download links of Prokit for Intel. BUT..
All the Prokit online are extracted with Pacifist from either Tiger OS disc or ProAppRuntime4.0.2.pkg(from apple's website). So they are either version 3.1 or version 4.0.2. After replacing my Prokit.framework with version 4.0.2, all my FCS 2 apps except Final Cut Pro (but Log and Transfer inside FCP 6) stopped crashing but failed to display any interface. But the icons are in the dock.
So finally I cleaned up all the files related to Final Cut Studio 2 and Prokit.framework and did a fresh reinstallation of FCS 2.
Same thing! No interface at all.
At this point, I doubt if the Prokit.framework in Leopard OS disc is different. It's too bad that I'm traveling for a project and my Leopard DVD is not in hand. So I asked a friend using Pacifist to extract Prokit.framework and Browser.framework from his Leopard DVD and sent them over. Now I found that they are indeed different. The one from Leopard is version 4.1. I did a replace again. Now, Motion 3, DVD Studio Pro 3 and Compressor start up, but with black windows and a few images, and the menu bars are really weird. I guess I should install this two framework with Pacifist instead of replacing them with the extracted folders?
The last resort I guess is to reinstall Leopard? My dilemma if I don't finish my project, I have no access to my OS DVD, but I need to use FCS 2 to finish the project.
Has anyone run into the same situation? Any enlightenment will be appreciated!

I have just installed Leopard ans having problems with DDVDSPRO crasshing, can you please expand on how i may install prokit.framework and Browerkit frame work with Pacifist. I am not an expert please bear in mind!!
    many thanks

  • Video Dropout in Compressor 4 Transcodes

    Hi,
I'm exporting a ProRes master from FCP7 then loading the file into Compressor 4 for transcoding to H264 1080 for YouTube and Vimeo.
The resulting file has video dropout thoughout.
Is this a known problem and if so does anyone have any work-rounds and/or fixes for this problem?
    Thanks.
    RE

    Hi Russ,
I have had this happen a few times now.
The workflow is: ProRes 422 edit > export ProRes 422 from FCP 7 > transcode exported file in Compressor 4 to H264 1080 (YouTube and Vimeo preset).
It's the transcoded produced by Compressor file that has the dropout in it, not the uploaded file.

  • Bringing HDV into compressor problem

I'm having a problem compressing a HDV file straight out of FCP from my sequence... and I'm hoping someone can point me to some info for help.
I am done editing my HDV footage, and my sequence and project are set to the correct HDV settings. Now when I export from my sequence, to Compressor, the footage is set to SD settings automatically in Compressor. I just don't get it.
Now, if I export from FCP as a quicktime movie and create a new HDV file, then import that file into Compressor everything is cool.
Can I avoid having to export using quicktime movie, and just go directly to Compressor.
My final file from compressor is H264 (480x270)
    Any advise would be awesome...
    Thanks

have had similar issues way back as exporting to COMPRESSOR from FCP TIMELINE... just locks up after a while.
Suggest workaround with FCS 2 workflow, :
    • export as SELF CONTAINED QT movie (transient file for your work flow) - suggest PRORESS 422 - seems to run faster in COMPRESSOR rater than HDV LGOP format. (others will debate this).
    • use above to INPUT into COMPRESSOR
    • purge transient movie when transcode from compressor ok.
    works for me.

  • Compressor problems

I have been trying to compress a HD file but with studio 2 is impossible. A 4 sec clip shows to be hours to compress. When I tried to cancel the file, it does not cancel. I have re-start mac pro several times and the clusters don't dissapear. I did not have that problem with Studio 1. I have followed the trouble shooting segments that apple offers, but noothing. The software is update it, but nothing happens. What is left for me to do??
    Please help!!!

wanna add some detail to your post such as:
    • the workflow you are doing (i.e. from FCP timeline or ojects added directly to COMPRESSOR.APP)
    • using QMASTER?
    • what is/are the OUTPUT/final "HD codecs" you are trying to transcoding
    • what is you working /transient codec (for example in FCP or SHAKE or something)
    • what is you orginal footage is the above is true.
    • how are you invoking COMPRESSOR
    • are any of the INOUT OBJECTS file mounted on anework or just local. Same for OUTPUT objects.
    • anything in the /var/logs (use /applications/utilities/console.app)
    • what is the status of COMPRESSOR tasks in the ACTVITY MONITOR... busy, idle????
    • anything else you think would help.
BY "cancelling the file" do you mean trying to terminate the COMPRESSOR transaction in the BATCH MONTOR?
post and hopefully some of us have some ideas for you.

  • Compressor 4.1 Failing

So I've been using compressor 4 and 4.1 for about a year now and havent had any issues with either of them but two days ago I started a batch from FCPX and the first night it got stuck on waiting. I went through all of the forums, deleted the compressor folders in Application Support and still nothing changed. I then uninstalled Compressor and reinstalled it and started my batch like normal and it appeared like it was all going to work but when I came in this morning it all failed. Our workflow is: capture HD-SDI 1080 29p to a Blackmagic H.264 ProRecoder at 20kbits-> Import to FCPX -> create two projects (one for worship, one for sermon) -> export audio and tweek it in Logic X -> import audio file back to FCPX -> add a .tif logo in the corner of the video -> send to compressor to compress a smaller 1080 H.264, a 480 H.264, an AAC and  a MPEG-2 and Dolby Digital for DVD's. Ive been using this workflow for a year without any problems untill this week, nothing has been changed on my system and im current on all updates. Im running an early 2008 Mac Pro 3.0GHZ 8-core with 32gb ram, 12TB of HDD and 256GB of SSD and a Saphire 7950 GPU. Ill attatch a screen shot of compressor so you can see what the fails are. Also, I started compressor at 6pm and it usually takes about 10 hours however when I came in this morning at 830 it had an elapsed time of like 2.5hrs so it ended up freezing or something.

Ok since my last post I found out that the 1080 file completed even though it said it failed but the other 4 files failed. I then reset peramiter ram and started the batch (minus the 1080) again and its currently processing the .M2V file and the .AC3 file was successful. Hopefully that solved something and Ill let you all know if it gets hung up somewhere. In the meantime, if any of you know what the possible problem was/is im still curiouse so I can fix it from happening again.

  • Compressor Problem suddenly -- why?

Am new to Mac and FCP, just cut a 40-something minute documentary, am trying to export a Quicktime h.264 version using compressor, in order to send to my transcriber. I did this before easily at the start of the project, when I compressed 18 hours of interviews, an hour at at time, to H.264 100 kbps, no problem.
Now that I have an edited show, when I try to encode, I get a FAIL message each time saying "QuickTime Error: -50."
I've searched posts here and came across some people talking about a similar problem but have been unable to find any solution that's worked for me (one suggested fixing permissions, rebooting, seeting in/out points, and then trying again, but that hasn't helped).
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Encore CS5.1 Blu-ray Replication Problem - Master Failed BDA Compliance Testing

    I've authored a Blu-ray in Encore 5.1
I purchased and used BluStreak Tracer with Export BDCMF
I sent the BDCMF to Cinram for duplication.
From Cinram I received "Master Failed BDA Compliance Testing"
    The specific error is:
Verifier: Sony BD-ROM Verifier for FS and AV
    Version: Version 2.04 Build 0049
    Compliance: ERRORS DETECTED

Summary: The bsid field is not set to 1000b (8), or 110b (6). (See BD-ROM Part 3-1,
                9.9.4)
How may I fix this problem? How do I get Enocre to set the bsid field to where the specs require it?
Are there any other work arounds to this particular problem as I am in a bit of spot because my client wants to distribute this fine disc we have created and Cinram will not because the Encore authoring does not appear to be conforming to the official specifications?  A fair bit of money is on the line.

Finally made it throug to tech support and they created a case number and they will call me when they have a solution.  I'm not holding my breath.  In the meantime I've got to find a solution.
The audio is encoded in the m2ts file so I’ve got to do the audio and video together.  I’m considering re-encoding via Encore but using H264 instead of mpeg but I’m not sure what audio encoding options are available as of yet if I go that route.
I’m first trying to establish the tools (mediainfo run in cli) to be able to evaluate what BSID is spit out.
Another option I’m exploring is to re-render the m2ts files output by Encore (located in the stream dir) in Sony Vegas and see if they conform to BDA spec.  I’d then have to replace the files in the Stream dir and wash it through BluStreak tracer but I’m not confident it will compile the CMF properly doing it that way.
A third option is to encode all the video via vegas, replace the footage in encore with the pre-encoded stuff (telling encore not to transcode it).  I'm not sure if I can do this in Encore though.
Again, first step is to get the tools to “see” the problem.
    Any advice is appreciated!

  • Export Using Compressor from FCP fails every time

When I try to use the File>Export>Using Compressor command in FC Studio 2, everything seems normal until I submit the batch. But the job fails every time.
I get the following message: "Processing service request error: Final Cut Pro.app generated an error or unexpectedly quitUser aborted Media Server".
I've gone through all the discussion stuff on how Compressor needs to be reinstalled and all that. That's not my problem here. Compressor will work fine if I use it standing alone. It's only if I try to use the FCP export that this problem occurs.

Compressor works fine as a stand alone when I import a Quicktime file. However, if I try to export a suquence directly from FCP, it gives me a message "File Error: A file of this name already exists". If I press okay it exports it to Compressor which gives me a message, "Can't preview movie Final Cup Pro App is busy".
Then when I go ahead and load the output settings into compressor ( actual compressor window shows the sequence as being loaded) it starts to render and then it stops with the following message logged
    "Name: MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass
    Time Elapsed: 0:00:00
    Time Remaining: 0:00:00
    Percent Complete: 100
Status: Failed - Final Cut Pro.app generated an error or unexpectedly quitUser aborted Media Server"
Any ideas what the problem might be?

  • Problem with failing ata link

    Hello,
I might be in the wrong section, but I got a serious issue I can´t track down!
    Lets start with the symptoms:
on BIOS-HW-initialisation I get randomly a S.M.A.R.T. error for my root-HD (if the error occurs ARCH won´t boot, but WIN7 does from the same drive without any problems!)
if ARCH start usually everything is fine, but:
recently, during normal usage of ARCH, my second HD with my home-partition disappeared (still listed on /etc/mtab, but no more in fdisk -l or lsblk)
I know, that I can´t exclude possible hardware-problems, but since my second HD never showed any problems via S.M.A.R.T. I wouldn´t consider it as origin of the problem.
Maybe this is due to a problematic ata-chip on my mainboard (ASRock 880g Extreme3)?
This could maybe explain the errors randomly between both drives.
    As additional information:
Earlier I experienced problems booting ARCH with some 'frozen ata links' already, which were related to my DVD-drive (at least they disappeared after I plugged it off).
The errormessages did not point to the DVD-drive, but to my earlier root-HD, which broke after a short lifetime of maybe 1.5 years.
I don´t know if this could be a mainboard related problem.
Can those problems affect the sanity of harddrives?
Then why didn´t WIN7 had any problems at all? (Okay maybe WIN7 simply ignores problems...)
I used Kubuntu previously of ARCH and sata-related error messages came after the migration to ARCH.
I would think, that this could lead to a driver/kernel related issue, but to be honest, I am not enough into this matter...
My search in the WWW didn´t lead to any helping clues...
So if someone more experienced could give me some advice on interpreting the situation and my syslog I would be very thankful!
If you need more information, tell me and I will update the post!
    Thanks and greeting!
