Compressor stops halfway - Computer wants to restart

I have a mid-2006 17" Intel Core Duo iMac with Snow Leopard installed. I'm having problems with Compressor (3.0.5) being able to completely export a 2 and half hour video from Final Cut Pro. Like I said, the film I'm compressing is 2.5 hours of HD video (down-converting to SD) and I am using the "DVD Best Quality 150 minutes" settings - both the Dolby Digital Professional 2.0 (for audio) and MPEG-2 3.7Mbps 2-pass (for video).
Compressor's estimated time for completing both of these jobs is a few days... so I've let my computer sit and work on these all through the day and night.
One morning I woke up and I saw the following on the screen:
"You need to restart your computer. Hold the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button." (kernel panic?)
So I do this, the computer restarts, and I find (as expected) that the jobs in Compressor never finished. The audio file of my film was completed, but the video file was not.
I've downloaded and installed the "Compressor fix" patch, but I've had no luck when I retried compressing the video. I've also looked into forums and found QMaster related issues, but that doens't seem to be a problem either. I'm guessing that maybe something with Snow Leopard isn't compatible with Compressor, seeing that I've never had this problem before. (although I've never tried compressing 2.5 hours of HD video)
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thanks!

Can you post a log of your kernel panic? You can find that in the console Diagnostic Information > System Diagnostic Reports. Please copy and paste the kernel panic log in here.
*I suspect* that the Java used in Compressor 3.0.5 uses some pre-1.6 calls, and this may be related to these problems; I've been having kernel panics with it too. Apparently some Bluetooth and Camino aspects also can cause this... because they make Java calls that Snow Leopard doesn't like. THIS IS JUST A SPECULATIVE HYPOTHESIS on my part... but it makes sense... nobody with Compressor 3.5 has this problem after all. I'm going to test this theory later.

  • I cant install an update to Firefox and cant remove the old version because a "Setup" pop up window "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now?" appears, reboots change nothing. What should I do?

    A friend said she downloaded an update to Firefox (a version of 6, I believe) but didn't install the update, but the desktop icon was gone. The only way to launch Firefox was from the Programs folder. When clicking on the Firefox file, a "Setup" pop up window appeared stating "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now?" Clicking "No" does not launch Firefox and clicking "Yes" reboots the computer, but nothing changes after restart and the same series of events keeps re-occurring. When clicking on the safe mode file, Firefox was launched. I went to "Add/Remove Programs" and found Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3. When attempting to remove the program, the same reboot "Setup" pop up appears, and the same non-results as previously described, persisted. I deleted all Firefox files and deleted the update set up .exe files. I again tried to remove the Firefox 3.6.3 program, with the same outcome as the previous attempt(s). I went to the Firefox website and downloaded the updated Firefox 7.0.1 set up .exe file, saved and ran it. When I reached the Setup Wizard page that prompts a "Standard" or "Custom" installation, I clicked on Standard and the same reboot pop up window appeared, again with no change after the reboot. So I have a Program installed (Firefox 3.6.3) with no files, and which can not be removed, an executed update/download .exe for Firefox 7.0.1 that can not be completely installed due to the failure to update by reboot problem. I'm out of ideas on how to try to resolve these problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

    Try a clean reinstall.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
    * Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Can anyone please tell me why the "Do you want to restart your computer now" window keeps popping up every two minutes? Please help! Its driving me nuts?

    Hi all.
    I need some help. I have recently installed a new Hard Drive in my Macbook and have re-installed Snow Leopard. Since doing so there have been a few things that haven't been quite the same.
    1) Certain buttons decided they didnt want to work anymore. These being the Space Bar, the Tab key, all four arrow keys, Caps lock, Volume up, Eject, and a few others.
    After putting up with this for a couple of weeks and looking at numerous forums, they all of a sudden came back to life (Hence why I'm actually able to type this message) THEN, they packed up again. Then started again, then packed again, and so on. They seem to have a mind of their own.
    Please... does anyone know whats going on? Is it a hardware prob? Is it something to do with the way Ive installed the Hard Drive? Have I forgotten to do something?
    2) Ever since my buttons initially came back to life, the "Do you want to restart you computer?" window keeps popping up every couple of minutes.
    It's the window that says "Restart, Sleep, Cancel, Shut Down"
    It's driving me insane and I can't help but think that the two probs are related.
    If anyone out there has any ideas at all, they would be most welcome.
    Many thanks in advance

    I stopped using iCloud after another family member received all my contacts. Now I want to restart using iCloud. How do I prevent this happening again? We share the same Apple id password and credit card but different usernames.

    If two of you shared the same contacts you were logged in with the same Apple ID. In order to avoid this you need to use different Apple IDs, and be using separate Macs or separate user accounts on the same Mac.
    One or other of you should create a new Apple ID at http://appleid.apple.com for which you will need a non-Apple email address which hasn't been associated with another Apple ID.

I have reinstalled it 8 times, and it says the same thing......I have searched my computer for it, and can't find what it's talking about!! HELP!!!!!!

  • After downloading an update, firefox says "your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of firefox. do you want to reboot now" and will not start.

    Firefox will not start, or allow windows xp to uninstall the program. When I attempt to start the program, firefox says "your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of firefox. do you want to reboot now? It gives the same message after rebooting, and will not start, or uninstall. I also downloaded it again, same thing.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I downloaded an update.

    I tried to sync Firefox mobile to my PC. Then I tried to upgrade to Firefox 4.0, which was a mistake, because I already had 4.0. I checked yes to install it again. Then I tried to uninstall and reinstall 4.0. That is when I started getting the error message.

    If you are printing via a Windows shared printer and it is the Windows user account that you are being prompted for then you can save this in the Keychain, as shown below.

    Just had this same problem. Based on other suggestions I found on the web, went to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and deleted all files that ended with upgrade and/or delete. Then I was able to uninstall Firefox and then reinstalled. Hope this helps!

  • I downloaded the update - FF wants to restart my computer. It does not work. I can not open it and I can not unistall it.

    After downloading updates - FF does not work - I cannot open it and it keeps wanting to restart my computer. I did that several times and it does not work. I cannot unistall - get the same message.

    Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator) or reboot and login as a user with Administrator privileges.

    I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
    When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
    At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
    I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

    my 1st gen. ipod stops halfway through a song and restarts. but it doesn't do this with all songs, just some. i updated the songs from my ipod onto it again, then manually ejected it, but nothing is working..
    HELP!!

    Try reseting it by holding both Menu and Center buttons down untill the Apple Logo pops up(you my have to do this a couple times for it to work). Or you can restore its factory settings and put the songs back on the iPod. But if that doesen't work try calling this number Apple Disability Solutions (800) 767-2775 and see if you can get yourself further help.
