Compressor update,ok w. Tiger?

I can't find any info on the pro apps update for compressor to 3.0.4 saying if it's advisable if your are using Tiger (not Leopard). It just says that the update and update to Leopard combined fix some problems, but doesn't say if it would help if you are staying with 10.4.11 (Tiger)
Compressor has been getting so quirky and problematic, I thought I'd try the update.
fcp 6, studio2, compressor 3.0.3, PowerMac G5 dual proc. 2.3, 3.5GB ram.

A word of caution, however:
Some have been having problems with Compressor since the 2008-003 ProApps Update. I would advise possibly leaving that one update and waiting for the next. We're not sure if it's a bug in the update.

I'm trying to figure out how to fix this.
I rebooted into a techtool pro e-drive and repaired permissions (as well as some other repairs to the drive, etc), but it still is crashing.
I created a new user and opened mail just fine there.
So... it is something in my account. Not sure exactly what to do next?

I'm having the same exact problem. (See Mail 2.0.5 crashes when I get new mail). I deleted my preferences & my junk mail settings, to no avail.
A remarkable number of other people are posting with similar problems, just in the past week or so alone, and as far as I can tell, no one has figured it out. There is definitely a bug here. I have a hunch that it may be related to a recent software update. I'm going to post this to the other threads in hopes of garnering some attention from Apple.
For posterity's sake, I am connecting to a Gmail account, a POP account, and a .Mac account.

  • I updated OS from tiger to lion.. my Dvd not functioning .. HELP--!!!

Recently i updated to os lion and after i di that my dvd drive stop functioning... anyone help please... i read it might be a software problem.. anyone knows what to do???? Thanks in advance.....

One of the reasons a brody and I are asking about "how you obtained Lion" is that you need to have the App Store in order to download it.  The App Store is only available in Snow Leopard.  The title of your thread states "I updated OS from Tiger to Lion".  There is no way to download Lion from within Tiger (or Leopard for that matter).  If you obtained Lion via other means, you may have an early build which may exhibit problems not found in the released version.
When you say your DVD drive is not working... Is it with one specific DVD, or have you tried other DVDs and they are also not working?
It sounds as though you have successfully installed Lion, but now your DVD drive is having problems.  Do you currently have Lion installed and working?

  • Can't update OS X Tiger

I just brought an eMac that come with Tiger 10.4, and i have notice that the latest update is come out for 10.4.2, i downloaded the stand alone update file (my mac without internet connection) and try to install the update, it show i can't install it on the current hard drive.
do i really need the update? please help....

Hi, Goh and Barry (+ JMVP and Wade) —
Both JMVP and Wade tried to convey this — but I want to double-check. So, please forgive if I'm repeating redundantly:
We need to confirm that you have both met the system requirements for the installation you've chosen.
The hardware requirements are defined in Article 301342: Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger system requirements. Based on your "My Computer" signatures, you both apparently meet these requirements. The software requirement for upgrading to OS X 10.4.2 is an operational OS X 10.4.1 system — unless you use the "Combo" Installer, in which case you need an operational OS X 10.4 system. This is detailed below.
Again — for clarity — the Mac OS X 10.4.2 Update Combo — described in Article 301723 — must be used if you're updating from OS X 10.4. Note that the ID given in the bottom-left-hand corner of the Download page is "sd7270." This is the "stand-alone" download cited by JMVP and Wade.
If you're updating from OS X 10.4.1, you can use either the Mac OS X Update 10.4.2 — described in Article 301722:About the Mac OS X 10.4.2 Update (Delta) — or the Combo installer. The ID given in the bottom-left-hand corner of the (Delta) Download page is "sd7267."
If your eMac doesn't meet the requirements for the installer package you're using, you should expect to see a message like you've described.
Please post back to clarify. Although your problems seem identical, the circumstances may be different. If this doesn't resolve the problem, then we'll need to proceed further with troubleshooting. If you haven't already, please read Article 106692: Mac OS X: Troubleshooting installation and software updates.
    Good luck!
    Dean

  • Updating problem to tiger 10.4.8

I purchased the tiger upgrade 10.4.6 yesterday after being a panther user. After installing the 10.4.6 upgrade successfully I went on to the apple site to update tiger by downloading the 10.4.8 version. But when I try to install the new update, I can not do it, the system won't let me choose a the hard drive to install the update. any suggestions

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Are you sure you downloaded the PowerPC (also known as PPC) update? Macs which could run 10.4.4 updates and earlier versions of Mac OS X are only PowerPC.
Are you following the tips I've made* for upgrading?

  • Need older update: for mac tiger 10.4.11 (have 3.030

I have an older MAC laptop: can not afford a new one. I am running Tiger 10.4.11. My firefox is 3.0.10 which will not work anymore. The updates are too advanced. Where can I get a download of firefox for MY OLD computer that will work?
    Thanks

Thank you for your suggestion. I got many windows that tell me this:
    1. Firefox 3.6.25dmg is on a FTP server that may not allow applications to run or they will run very slowly.
    2. Server connect interrupted, ftp.mozilla.org-2
    3. following disk image failed to mount. Reason: not recognized.
Boy, I must be a geek, I can not even do this right.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks for your time!

  • Problem updating newly installed Tiger (upgrading from 10.3.9)

    Hi,
I'm having troubles updating my newly installed Tiger (10.4.3) to the newest version of it.
I tried Software Update but after checking it says that I have the newest available software (which is not true), and when trying updating from the combo updates available at Apple website, I get the following screen:
    http://kaarlows.sites.uol.com.br/Fotos/update.jpg
I've downloaded all combos, starting from 10.4.8 version until 10.4.4 one (which is the one I took the screenshot above), and all of them show the same error.
I've already restarted the computer, repaired permissions, disconnected my external drives, and still couldn't update my operating system.
I upgraded from Panther, version 10.3.9, using the option of “upgrade” with the Tiger installation DVD.
Could somebody help me out here?
    Thanks;

Did you run Disk First Aid repair on your boot volume
with Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when
booted from the Tiger install disc before proceeding
with the installation and were all external
peripheral devices except for a keyboard and mouse
    disconnected during the install?
No, I didn't, and my external USB hard drive was connected to the Mac when I was updating.
If no problems were reported by DFA repair, this
probably won't make any difference but if there were
problems reported that were successfully repaired, it
    might.
Beside repairing disk, I also repaired permissions once again, and there were no problems reported.
I restarted the computer, and still software update continued to say that I was up-to-date and the update combos I downloaded all showed the same error message from the screenshot above.
Will I need to reinstall again Tiger? And will the option Archive and Install work even if I'm reinstalling again the same system?
    Thanks for the fast reply,

  • Help with FCPX and Compressor updates

So compressor automatically updated from 4.0 to 4.1 and is now not working and im also having issues with the 10.0 to 10.1 FCPX update. Please check out the link to my other post below for more details.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24968191#2496819.

OK found projects, didnt realize they got moved to the events library from down by the timeline. Still waiting to see if Compressor 4.1 works with FCPX 10.1 update. Looks promising though. My computer automatically updated Compressor to 4.1 without me knowing (obviously when I opened it I noticed) but when it was failing I was still trying to compress with FCP 10.0 and Compressor 4.1 so maybe that was the issue.

  • Compressor Update Access Error

The latest update for compressor shows up in my Software Updates, but when I give it permission to install, I get the message "You do not have sufficient permission to access, update has been moved to the trash".
There is no other user with higher access on my computer. I have repaired disc permissions, and it keeps happening. What permission does it need?

Maybe your user account has been changed automatically to standard?
Apple has an article on how to fix that: Mac OS X 10.5: Administrator user changes to standard
You could also try downloading the update manually from http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/download/

  • Compressor update won't install

Software Update keeps bringing up a Compressor 3.0.1 update. Have tried to install it, but it won't. All other updates have been successful. Any thoughts?

I have the same problem with this update, it keeps coming up, has anyone heard anything on why this update is not installing?

  • Update iMac to Tiger or even Leopard

I currently have an old iMac (round base w/ flat screen). It is using OS X v10.3.9. It uses an 800 MHz PowerPC G4 and has memory of 512 MB SDRAM. There is 32.91 GB available in the hard drive. Am I able to update to Tiger or even Leopard? I noticed that the processor needed for either update is 867 MHz. Will my iMac still be able to use either one?

As cool as Leopard is, I recommend Tiger. I had an old iBook and installed Tiger on it, and it ended up running a little snappier than panther!
Consider adding some RAM also, it's simple to do and will improve performance. Here is one of the many websites you can order RAM from. http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?model=143&type=Memory&TI=1148&shoup grds=Show+Upgrades

  • Updating MySQL in Tiger Server

Is there a reliable and relatively painless way to update the ancient version of MySQL that's included with Tiger Server?

That is an extremely loaded question.
On one end, it's trivial to download the latest version of MySQL and install it.
That is not the issue for most people, though. If you're hoping to get it to work with Apple's GUI tools, well you're out of luck, but you're more than welcome to run it manually, using other admin options - the same as you would on any other OS.
Then comes your data. No one can tell you what will happen to your data if you install a different version. If you have very simple database schema with a small amount of data it may just work. If you have terabytes of multi-relational database tables well, you're going to need to examine the data, the schema, and the version changes to see what you need to do (if anything) to your data.
Additionally, the data may just work but it may be slower until you perform MySQL 5.x-based optimizations - the specifics of which will, again, depends on your data.

  • What can I update my imac Tiger 10.4.11 to?

I've been reading and it sounds like the best I can do is update the software to Lion and order additional 3 GB of memory - but is that enough to run Lion? Or am I better off just upgrading to snow leopard?   Also, if upgrading how do I do a backup or could I take imac to the local Apple Store and they could help?  I inherited this imac and I love it but I know technical support, etc. has expired so not sure what help I can get?
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          iMac
      Model Identifier:          iMac6,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.16 GHz

      Bus Speed:          667 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          IM61.0093.B07

In order to get to Lion, you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard first.
Your iMac 6,1 can only be upgraded to Lion.
