Compressor will not start/grey in FCP export menu

Hello all,
I recently had to do a reinstall of my FCS software. When I got everything back and updated I found that I could not open compressor; it just pops open in the doc and then goes away. I then opened FCP and tried to export using compressor but the menu option was grayed out. I found out that this might have something to do with Qmaster being updated.
I went to this site as a reference ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303967 ). Typed in my ID and then typed in my crossgrade (upgrade) serial. I got a red message telling me this number was invalid. Ok, so I then typed in my original FCP HD serial and to my surprise got the same invalid response.
Has anyone else had this experience? Can you help me get this sorted out because compressor is part of my work flow and I am waist deep in a project.
Thank you in advance. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Christopher

  • Compressor will not start batchs

    Hi guys,
I'm having some major problems, every time I send my projects to Compressor from FCP or even when I drop exported self contained video projects, after I drop in the settings (usually 90 min. video 2 pass) and hit submit it just sits there and does not process anything, but the batch monitor keeps the time elapsed, sometimes 3 hours or more but no job.
I had the FCS installed & working ok for well over a year with no incidents until 2 weeks ago.
I've reseted the background processing several times, restarted the machine, repaired permissions many times and I even un-installed FCS2 and re-installed everything and the problem still persists... Any ideas ? I don't know what else to do.

    Thanks Brian,
I went over all the steps to remove Q-Master, Motion and all the different Compressor files and re-installed again from the FCS2 disc. Still the same problem persists, Compressor accepts the batch but never starts them.
Earlier this week, I actually uninstalled the entire suite using FCS Remover http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm and just installed all from scratch and no go.

  • Compressor 1.2.1 will not start

I have FCP HD 4.5 Studio. I have created several projects using almost all the modules (except Cinema Tools) and everything has worked fine...until yesterday. Compressor 1.2.1 will not start and I don't know how else to get my finished video from FCP to DVD SP. I tried to export it as a standalone QT movie and let DVD SP do the work, but it says the bitrate is too high.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you in advance,
    Lloyd Lathrop

I downloaded the update from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/compressorupdate.html (there are 2 updates that can be downloaded...just select the one you're using). I just ran the updater and it seemed to fix everything.
    Hope this helps.

  • MacBook Pro has a grey screen with circle and slash and will not start up or start into safe mode.

MacBook Pro has started to get a grey screen with circle and slash and will not start up or start into safe mode.  This happened once previously, however, it allowed a safe mode reboot and then worked for a week or so.  While utilzing the machine, it started with the spinning beach ball for about 5 minutes, went into a shut down mode and then rebooted and came back up with the grey screen with a circle and slash after a few minutes.  For the past three days it has been stuck and will not allow it to boot into safe mode.  Any idea or suggestions?

Try starting the MBP with the OPTION key down.  If you see two HDD icons, select the recovery Icon.  From the 4 option menu, select Disk Utility.  Select Disk Utility>First Aid and run Verify and Repair.
If you cannot get into the recovery partition, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.
    Ciao.

The Macbook Pro 13, late 2009 will not start past the grey Apple Logo screen?  Any help will be most welcome? Thanks

Have you tried booting with the install disc that came with your computer?
Find it and then run Disk Utility to verify your hard drive. If errors are found, try to repair the disk.
It sounds as if the hard drive might be failing.

Do you have any filters applied to your clips?
This happened to me before, I accidently had applied a broadcast safe filter to a color matte that was black....
I figured it out by duplicating my sequence and deleting items from my timeline 1 by 1 until I was able to export a reference movie.
Anywho, export again, this time with "self contained" movie selected.
Then try to import to Compressor.

  • FCP will not start up now!!!

I was working on a project that was stored on an external lacie drive and somehow the drive lost power and droped off.
I quit FCP and then loaded the external drive back to the desktop but now final cut will not start up for any of my projects.
The application banner comes up for only about half of the time it usually takes and the FCP drops out.
I have tried reinstalling the program but it hjas not helped
    Anyone have any suggestions

For Rescue, go here, and DL the correct version for your FCP:
    http://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/
To repair the boot volume, insert your System Install disc in the SuperDrive, dbl-click on Install. When the Installer loads, don't click on anything in the Installer window, Instead, in the File menu, select Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk on the boot volume from there. (I think it's in the File menu. If not, check the other menus. It's in one of them.)

  • "Motion and Compressor Will Not Open Because Of A Problem"?

Last week I installed FCS 3 on my iMac and everything appeared to work OK.
However, as my iMac had been cluttered with rubbish for 2 years I erased the Hard Drive and reinstalled OSX 10.6.3 together with all FCS 3.
I have only used FCP and STP since then but today I discovered that Motion and Compressor "will not open because of a problem".
Here are the reports where it appears that in both cases the "Dyld Error Message", whatever that is, reports that "Library not loaded etc. etc."
Incidentally there are mentions of 14 and 18 crashes since last reports. This is ridiculous as I have only just tried to open them 3 or 4 times in the last 5 minutes . . . . and the computer OS and apps are all freshly installed.

  • Imac 27-inch 10.9 recovery disk will not start

    hello everyone,
I am having boot up problems on my imac 27-inch.
I pressed the power button and press and held the Option key, I chose the
Recovery disk, but the Recovery disk did not start, instead I have the grey Apple logo and it keeps running but will not start.
The imac 27-inch was bought refurbished in late 2010
I also have imac apple care from 2010 never used. First time problem.
On pressing the Option key during startup,
Mach Hard disk and Recovery Disk 10.9 is displayed.
Choosing mac hard disk does not boot up the OS instead I get a big Zero sign with line through it or a big flash question mark sign.
Choosing the Recovery Disk 10.9 does not boot up Disk Utility, instead I get the grey Apple logo.
    Please help. Thanks.

Your Recovery HD is damaged. You may be able to repair it using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.5.4. Under the Windowm menu select Disk Center. Select your boot volume from the list. Click on the Recovery HD tab then click on the Create a Recovery volume for this disk. Select Mavericks from the dropdown menu labeled "Recovery HD version to be applied." See if that works. If it does not then see Update - Create Lion RecoveryHD Partition Quickly Without Reinstalling | brunerd. Or see Recovery Partition Creator 3.7 – Updated for Mavericks ...

  • Mac crash; recovery will not start

Yesterday my Mac suddenly crashed into a screen with blue (and white) lines. It wouldn't respond to anything, so I powered it down and tried to boot again. However, it will not boot. It will show the Apple logo, request my password and after a while (with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel) it just shows a blank screen (grey), while the CPU fans are spinning like crazy.Sometimes will it not even get this far and stop doing anything before requesting the password. The guest mode has the same problem.
I basically tried everything to fix it; the recovery option will also show the blank grey screen but nothing else (even after 30 minutes); the internet recovery downloads fine and then pulls the same stunt, so even the recovery will not work. I've tried save mode, which cannot start up (Filevault is activated) and seems to end mid-way through. Sometimes the safe mode crashes immediately after the boot starts with a kernel panic (/sbin/launchd failed, errno 2); after resetting the NVRAM it won't panic.
I've checked the hardware (T startup option, full check), which al seems to be OK. SMART status from the harddrive looks OK (checked with DiskWarrior). Starting in single user mode sometimes gets me through the password request screen and allows me to check the hard drive (fsck -fy). This seems to change permissions, however, after a reboot or exit command, the problem persists and starting up in single user mode and performing the fsck -fy command again seems to fix some issues. When I enter the exit command in safe mode, it'll start up fine, but when the graphic user interface starts, it'll give me the grey screen again (so a blank screen, while the CPU fans are at full power).
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this? Since even the recovery will not start (and neither will the internet recovery), I've got no clue what to do to fix this issue...

Your comment about the "blue and white lines" has me wondering.  You say you have a fairly recent MacBook Pro, correct?  If that is the case, you probably have a model which has both discrete and integrated GPUs.  It is possible that your discrete GPU has failed, and whenever the OS is trying to switch to it is when your system just "hangs" (because the GPU has failed).  It all works properly as long as it is on the integrated GPU, but when something causes it to switch it hits the bad GPU and locks.
I would suggest that you make an appointment at your nearest Apple Store to have the specialists at the Genius Bar take a look at it for you.  If you are still under the 1 year warranty (or extended Apple Care if you purchased it) then any needed hardware repairs would be free, unless it is due to accidental damage such as a spill in the keyboard, etc.
If you don't have access to an Authorized Apple Service Center, and you do have access to another Mac, you could try making an external boot drive on the other Mac, then install the app "gfxCardStatus" on that MacOS instance (when booted from the external drive).  While still booted from the external drive, use the gfxCardStatus app to force the Mac to only use the integrated GPU then shutdown and boot your "dead" Mac from that drive.   If it boots and runs, now, try to change the external drive to force to use only the discrete GPU then see how your system boots.  If your system, will fully boot using one or the other, then it seems that your problem is probably related to one of your GPUs.  It could be a hardware failure, or it could be a corrupted driver.  If your system won't boot from either GPU, then my guess about it being a GPU issue is probably wrong.

  • PowerMac G5 will not start up.

    Hello,
I have a PowerMac G5 2.5GHZ Dual Processor (June 2004) that will not boot past the grey apple screen.
It will not get to a second chime by holding Command-Option-P-R at startup.
If I start up using Command-Option-O-F and enter reset-nvram (return) and reset-all (return) it freezes.
I have pressed the PMU button once.
It will start up using the hardware diagnostic disk and I can run the extended test multiple times (everything passes). When I press shut down or restart on the diagnostic screen, it freezes.
It will not start up from the Leopard installer disk.
It will not start up from the Disk Warrior startup disk.
I did run Disk warrior on the hard drive via Target Disk Mode and another computer.
Everything is disconnected from the computer except monitor, keyboard and mouse.
I have swapped the RAM with another identical computer that runs fine.
Battery has been tested and is fine.
Does anybody have an idea of where to look?
    thanks
    Ken

I seem to have similar issues. 3 out of about 40 times have I been able to get a second chime out of my pram reset...then I hols and get about 3 more. Each time...OS starts up and works just fine...until I sleep/shut down the computer. My drive has 5 gigs left on it, i hear that may be the issue. How do we remove the graphics card and reset that????
oh and BTW...leaving the plastic door off and trying to reset PRAM worked 2 out of the 3 times for me. This is getting frustrating. Im gonna free up some drive space and see what happens. Let me know if/how the graphics card trick works. It's fairly ridiculous that so many of us have these same issues.

  • 2007 Mac Book pro Shuts down at startup attempt. Tried reloading OSX and will not start up after that.

My Mac Book Pro started having issues. I tried to relaod the operating system and it worked for a moment. When I tried to do a time machine back up it failed.
Now itr Shuts down at startup attempt. Tried reloading OSX and will not start up after that.

    Dr.Conga,
did you try to do a Time Machine backup from your MacBook Pro, or a Time Machine restoration to it?
Are you trying to reload your current version of OS X (10.7.4, to judge from your signature), or are you trying to reload the version of Mac OS X that came on the grey installation DVDs that originally came with your MacBook Pro?

  • Homegroup Listener Service Will Not Start

The Homegroup Listener Service on one of my machines will not start.  It
shows an error code of  -2147467262  (0x80004002).  Does anyone know what
    might be causing this?

    Hi,
Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
    1. Leave HomeGroup completely
    a. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), in the search result list, right click on Cmd.exe and select Run as administrator.
Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
    b. In the popup window, type the following commands and press Enter one by one:
    Net stop p2pimsvc
    c. Access t he following folder and clear all files inside:
    C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking
    d. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), in the search result list, right click on Cmd.exe and select Run as administrator.
    Net start p2pimsvc
After that, please check whether the service can be started or not. If not, please proceed to the next steps.
    2. Verify the Server service and assure the status is started.
    3. Replace the system file and registry key. Please copy the following files on another Windows 7 machine which HomeGroup Listener service can start normally and import them to the problematic one.
    a. Locate the ListSvc.dll file under the folder C:\Windows\System32. Remove the old one and paste the new one.
    b. Navigate the following registry key on another Windows 7 machine and export it. Then, please copy and import it on the problematic machine.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\HomeGroupListener
If the issue persists after performing above suggestions, I suggest you run System File Checker (SFC) to verify whether any system file is corrupted.
    Thanks,
    Novak
