Compressor won't batch

After updating to OS X.4.4 and QT 7.0.4 compressor gives a message (both via FCP and stand alone) "ContentAgent Server not found" when you enter the submit button, never seen that one before. I reinstalled compressor and Qmaster, went back to QT 7.0.1, still the s(h)ame. Any ideas out there?

Can you launch Compressor separately, instead from within FCP?

  • Compressor won't cancel batch job

There was some sort of error while compressing a batch of clips. "3x Crash service down" not sure what that means... but anyway trying to cancel the job and it won't cancel it just stays there hung up. I have gone to /var/spool/qmaster and deleted all job folders and restarted compressor but it is still in the que. How can that be? Does anyone have any ideas how I can remedy this problam?

First try going into Compressor and under the Compressor menu chose Reset background processing. You'll get a dialog, choose reset and cancel. If that doesn't work (it should). Restart you computer and open Compressor or the Batch monitor right away. The job will restart and if you cancel right away it will be able to be canceled.

  • Compressor Won't Add Files to Source

For some reason my Compressor won't add any files to the source.
For example I'm trying to add a ~30GB .mp4 to the source so that I convert it.
Not sure what other details I can give other than this.

When you open the files in QuickTime Player, do they have a buffer bar that needs to load before they can be played back?  If so, Compressor likely needs to fully load the video before it can work with the file. I've run into this with .mkv files, so maybe the .mp4 files sourced from .mkv have the same behavior.
In these cases I generally save a referenced .mov file from Quicktime 7 Pro and drop that in Compressor for a smoother workflow.  It still needs to fully buffer in QT7 Pro before you can do a Save As, though.

  • I  just updated my mac operating system and now compressor won't open. FCP opens fine, but not compressor.

I just changed my operating system to OSXSnowLeopard. Now Compressor won't open. Final Cut opens and operates, but not Compressor. What can I do?

If you reinstall, use this tool – a free down load from Digital Rebellion.

  • Bridge 3.0.0.464 won't Batch Rename

    Hi,
Just ran the update for Bridge (and others) to solve on problem, and now Bridge won't batch rename files. I'm trying to rename 270 NEF and JPEG files (linked), which usually runs just fine, but now Bridge just hangs with the "rename" button depressed and does nothing.
Anyone have a thought on this? It would be appreciated!
    Thanks,

You may need to purge the Bridge cache after the update and let it rebuild.

  • COMPRESSOR WON'T WORK

I bought the imac i7 + FCS3 editing suite, compressor WON'T WORK! I spent all this money about $5000 on "quality" gear and I have to struggle to get it to work?
    <Edited by Host>

    Hi,
You don't mention any previous experience with either FCS in general or Compressor in particular, Perhaps if you were to peruse the manual you
    might get it to work.

  • Compressor won't open now

After the last pro applications update, my compressor won't open. It bounces on my dock for a minute and then closes. I've repaired permissions and deleted the preference file, but to no avail. Ideas?

I'm thinking it's a binding issue with the apps library files.
try running one of the many maintenance apps out there for OS X. All they really do is trigger OS X to do its own maintenance routines. The 'pre-binding' thing is one of them and I think is at fault. I had the same problem with a different app but i"m not sure if this fixed it or not, was a loooong time ago.

  • Compressor won't open batch window!

Help!! Pulling my hair out - When I try to export to Compressor - the application launches Version 3.03 but nothing happens. I cannot get the new batch window to open or function.
I have already tried this with no success:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    Then do this-
    2) Open up Pacifist
    3) In Pacifist… open the FCS 2 install package
    4) Once opened find… “Contents of AppleQmaster” select it
    5) Click the install icon in the upper left… it will verify the files
    6) Once verify completes install BUT make sure you use the REPLACE button
    7) Once completed do the same thing for the “Contents of Compressor” Package Open up the compressor application then close compressor
    9) Use software update to get compressor to version 3.0.1

Can you launch Compressor separately, instead from within FCP?

  • Disabled security for Qmaster, Compressor won't submit batch

I have read anything I could possibly get a hold of to fix the "unable to connect to background process" problem. I have tried them all except for reinstalling because after I installed a software update for compressor, it actually worked! But when I restarted guess what happened..the same darn problem. I tried manually turning on my Qmaster but it was already on. So here's where I believe things went wrong: When I originally installed FCP5 on my mac this message came up when I restarted:
An item in the Startup Items folder ("/Library/StartupItems/Qmaster") does not have the proper security settings.
It gave me the choice of fixing it or disabling it, well guess what I did...I disabled it like a moron. Does anyone have any suggestions what to do?

I had the same "moronic" issue and tried to reinstall, with no avail. What I found is that you must make sure to trash Qmaster from the "library/startupitems" folder before reinstalling. Then it will give you the same prompt to "fix" the security settings at startup.

  • Compressor Won't Work after Crash

    Thanks for reading,
I had my final sequences set up for my premiere this evening, when my computer had an unplanned shutdown. After restart (and many subsequent restarts) I find compressor will set up properly, but when I want to do a batch, it just hangs. It doesn't create a new file, and it doesn't seem like it's doing anything.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can Compressor burn a batch of several video clips to one DVD?

I'm trying to compile a batch of video clips to burn to a single AVCHD DVD-R.  It looks like I can Create Blu-ray Disc job action for each job or video, but I want to burn one disk to contain all the video clips in the batch.  Is this possible with Compressor 3.5?
I've found that it's possible to do this with Final Cut Pro, after transcoding all the video and putting it in one timeline, then File>Share.  But I was hoping to eliminate the step of transcoding the video to save time and memory, and speed up the process.
    Thanks for any help.

Ben, thanks for the info.  I assume I should ingest the videos as ProResLT with a Compressor droplet, rather than Log and Transfer w/ FCP.  Looks like that doubles the size of the video -- not too bad.  I just want to streamline the workflow as much as possible.  I don't want to shell out $100 for Toast right now.

  • Compressor won't work when submitted to Cluster

I've set up my Qmaster preferences to open 4 instances of Compressor 3 on my Mac Pro about a month ago. Now, out of the blue, I'm getting a strange error message when I choose the local cluster and Compressor will not submit the batch. I have not updated any software or changed any Qmaster settings.
The error message is: "Error: An internal error occurred: NSException raised by 'NSPortTimeoutException', reason = '[NSPortCoder sendBeforeTime:sendReplyPort:] timed out'
When I submit to "This Computer" Compressor works fine.
In the preferences pane, my Qmaster settings are
Share this computer as: Services only
    Services: Compressor
    Share CHECKED
    Managed UNCHECKED
    Options: 4 Instances (on a dual Quad-core)
    Services: Rendering
    All UNCHECKED
    Everything else set to defaults.
I've also noticed in the Activity monitor compressrd shows as (Not Responding)--I'm guessing that's not good!
Like I said, I had applied the 3.0.1 update when it first came out and it seemed to work fine since then.
I think my next step is going to be to wipe the HD and reinstall everything, but I'm hoping there is a quicker way. Any suggestions?
    MacPro 3.0 Ghz 2x Quad
    Mac OS 10.4.10
    Quicktime 7.1.6
Final Cut Studio 2 (all the x.0.1 updates)

    Just had the same problem.
Compressor was stuck on "cancelling" and never completed cancelling.
Other jobs just did not start because cancelling was in progress.
Quitting and restarting all programs did not work.
I finally killed all batch processes using compressor/reset background processing menu item.
Then I encountered this NSPortTimeoutException problem.
I threw away all compressor settings but that did not do much.
    Quit/restart still no effect
Then I set the Apple QMaster prefs to 'services and cluster controller'.
    Did not do much either.
Then I quit & restart all processes again. This time it seems to work again as it should.
No idea what really was the problem though...

  • Help Compressor won't open!

    Hi,
I had to reinstall FCStudio 2 on my iMAC. Now Compressor just won't open anymore.
I tried all the steps suggested by Apple (Disk Permissions, trashing Preferences, uninstalling and reinstalling Compressor). Nothing seems to work. It was working fine just yesterday.
It drives me nuts, and I'm also in a real timecrunch for an internet web series.
    Any suggestions?
    Jochen

I too could not get Compressor 3 to open- I tried this:
Went to Logic Studio Install DVD and found the installer/Packages folder, installed the following:
    Compressor.mkpg
    PluginManager.pkg
    Qmaster.mkpkg
(some of these install other packages too, btw)
    And it now works...
Tip off was detail in error report: could not find PluginManager.framework stuff in Library/Frameworks
Maybe this will help... Maybe I was lucky.
    -R
    PS
I did not delete any files anywhere

  • Compressor won't export in MPEG-2.

    Hi,
I'm using FCP 4.5 HD to edit a film shot with the Panasonic HVX200 and P2 cards. So far everything went pretty well, except I wasn't able to ingest the P2 files — I found a workaround solution by converting the .MXF files into .MOV files).
So I now have a 720HD .MOV teaser that I wish to export in MPEG-2 for DVD burning.
However, everytime I try to export through compressor, I get a message that says "can't process in background".
I tried to export the HD movie into a DV movie and then export in MPEG-2, but it won't work either: I still get this "can't process in background" message. I cannot export to MPEG-2 using Quicktime either...
Is there a way around that problem or am I doing something wrong?
    Thx,
    Jeff

    I've done my "homeworks".
I read various yet often quite similar posts about Compressor, which doesn't work properly with Leopard (Compressor 2.3 and later would work better, if I understand correctly) and found out there wasn't much I could do to fix this bug...
I also read an Apple article about this problem: I did remove the Compressor files from the frameworks and receipts folders and reinstalled as indicated, but to no avail.
I'll try to get a used copy of Final Cut Studio, so I can get a more recent version of Compressor (as well as more recent versions of Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, etc.), which should solve the problem. I just can't afford a brand new product right now (indie cinema is very expensive — editing is no problem, so output will have to wait until I generate more funds to cover the expense).
Until then, I'll export using Toast... I know, the available menu templates are... well they're just plain bad. But it works fine, so it will be okay for a while.
Don't hesitate to post your suggestions if you have any: they'll be most welcome.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Compressor won't submit jobs!  Help!!

I have Compressor 3.5 and Final Cut Pro 7 and am trying to send a project to it but after i apply the correct settings to the project to encode to a DVD, (i.e. DVD 90 minutes) for some reason when i try to submit the job the dialog box comes up to name it but the submit button is grayed out. It WON'T allow me to submit any projects! Help!!

Sounds like a problem with QMaster. First, download Compressor Repair and see if that gets it working.
The next step after that would most likely be an uninstall/reinstall of both QMaster and Compressor:
