Compressor working after hardware Fix

Hi Everyone,
I thought this might be of help to some of the folks having Compressor problems. I was never able to get Compressor to work stably on my Dual 2.0ghz G5. Despite always downloading the latest updates, adding new user account and running the software from within those, and swapping out RAM to look for RAM issues, I was never able to use the program on this machine.
Then, disaster. My G5 up'n'died. It had been having some strange crashing issues from time to time, as well as a weird "computer won't boot but fan gradually builds to an intimdating roar" thing. When it finally wouldn't turn on at all, I took it to the nearest Apple store for repair. After a $950 repair and replacement of the logic board, with no software changes, I get the machine back and all is happy, hardware-wise.
Moreover, Compressor is suddenly chugging along. I've still yet to put it through its paces, and am outputting files to it as I would nervously slip the two of diamonds onto an already high tower of cards, but, thus far, nothing seems to have gone wrong.
So, the moral is, if your "Compressor" problem is seemingly intractable, don't rule out a hardware issue.

Something simple worth trying:
1) Quit Safari if it is running
2) From Finders "Go" menu, choose "Go to folder", type in ~/Library/Preferences, then click "Go" button.
3) Within the "Preferences" folder, sort by filename, then look for, and Trash, all the files that begin with "com.apple.Safari....".  In particular, make sure to trash "com.apple.Safari.plist".
4) From Finders "Go" menu, choose "Go to folder", type in ~/Library/Caches, then click "Go".
5) Trash the "com.apple.safari" cache file
6) Try opening Safari again.
If that does not work, then I would recommend using another browser like Chrome (http://chrome.google.com) to download the latest version of Safari for your Mac OS version from (http://support.apple.com/downloads/#internet).  Try installing it if it will alow it.
And lastly, if all else fails, backup your Mac, reboot, then download and install the latest "Combo Update" for your Mac OS version (http://support.apple.com/downloads/#combo).  Installing or reinstalling a Combo update will almost certainly replace nearly many files associated with Safari and therefore would solve an issue where a critical file used by Safari is corrupted.

    I had the same problem and chatted with tech support and they told me to reset the PRAM and SMC which did not fix the issue.  After contacting them a second time I was told my computer needs to be repaired.  Which is not the problem it is a software issue.
    What finally fixed it was (this was done after resetting the PRAM and SMC):
    * Note: you can try this first and maybe it will solve your issue if not reset the PRAM and SMC then do the following.
    1. Open system preferences
    2. Chose sound
    3. Chose Output then headphones
    4. With headphones plugged in I checked the mute box on the bottom right and unchecked it they worked.
    Then when unplugged the speakers didn't work so I did the same but choosing the internal speakers

  • Oracle 11g RAC on CentOS 5.2 - Node isnt working after hardware failure

    Hi,
    We have a 2-node Oracle RAC 11g running on identical nodes with Centos 5.2 as operating system.
    Due to a drive failure and a reboot yesterday, the ASM disk, which is onnected via iSCSI, changed from sdd to sdc in name - (the faulty raid drive was removed, thus the change).
    The oracle services didnt start, which appeard perfectly logical at the time, given that the ASM disk suddenly wasnt where it was supposed to be, but even today after a replacement disk was inserted, the RAID rebuilt + with the ASM disk back to its original naming in /dev/; the node doesnt seem to work properly. Some of the oracle services are running, but there seems to be a problem with the listener, which might also explain why the node does not set it's virtual ip after starting up.
    Luckily, the other one is unaffected and is working perfectly fine..
    I'm far from having a clue about oracle, it was sheer luck (that, and the very usable documentation by oracle) that i managed to get that cluster running in the first place... I know my way around linux, so if it's a operating system related problem i'll be able to fix it, but i cant figure out what the problem with oracle is.

    As usual, as soon as i post a problem in some board, i find the solution myself.
    Although this way isnt really "linuxy", deleting the listener with the netCA tool and adding a new one solved it.

  • Lens correction filter doest work after hardware change

    Hello,
    Since I reinstalled my computer from scratch  after a hardware change (went from AMD GPU to an NVIDIA GPU)  lens correction filter doesn't work anymore.
    I can open the tool, do the corrections but when I pusch apply, the tool is closed but the corrections are not applied to the picture in the editor screen.
    No layer is added.
    When I close PSE multiple temp files are left in the root directory of my secundary drives.
    This happened with PSE 7 so I bougth PSE 9, de-installed PSE 7 and installed PSE 9. Guess what: same problem, no corrections applied.
    Is this Nvidia related since everything worked nice in PSE 7 with amd catalyst drivers ?
    I'm running Vista32 sp2, with latest directx and latest nvidia geforce drivers.

    1) The problem with the Delete Cropped Pixels option is that it essentially eliminates the nicest functionality of the new crop tool.....My suggestion to Adobe would be to enable some way of having the screen view imported into the lens correction filter but leaving the cropped information intact for future adjustments once the image was returned to the main PS window....
    2) The Camera RAW preferences setting adjustment was what I needed, thank you!
    3) The problem with the saving to PSD option, is that even when I do NOT have layers, it seems to default to saving as PSD.  Essentially, any adustment I make, except the most basic, even if I do not have any layers as a result, gets interpreted as needing to be saved as a PSD.  This is categorically different than in all prior editions of Photoshop.  (For instance, whenever I worked on JPGs and I would save a file on older versions, it would simply default to JPG unless I actually had visible layers in the layers window.  On this one, if I do anything like content-aware fill, or use the patch tool or healing brushes, it then saves to PSD by default, even though there are NO visible layers that need flattening.  It seems as if the program is interpreting those kinds of adjustments internally as layers and selecting PSD as the necessary file type to save to as a result.)
    Thanks for your help; if you have any other suggestions for work arounds for the third problem, I would greatly appreciate them.

  • Internal Webcam and Microphone not working after Screen Fix

    I own a HP Envy Spectre XT Ultrabook, and last week I tried to use the webcam and the microphone for the first time in a few months.
    However I was shocked to find that Skype kept saying that the webcam was not detected. The microphone also could not register any sound.
    Device Manager did not show any imaging devices or the webcamera, even after setting it to view non-present devices.
    A check using msinfo32 did not review the webcamera either, and there were no problem devices.
    Control Panel >> Sound showed that the Internal Microphone using IDT High Definition Audio Codec was enabled and working, however it could not detect any sound. All drivers are checked to be up-to-date.
    I suspect this has something to do with the screen repair last month which a HP on-site technician came down to replace my screen, although I cannot be 100% sure. Although the screen is now working, the technician did not do a good job reassembling the screen - the bottom left corner of the screen cover has not be able to attach properly to the screen. 
    I have gone through my BIOS setup to make sure that there is no webcam disabled.
    I have tried rolling-back and reinstalling the drivers for the microphone but it did not work.
    I have tried uninstalling CyberLink YouCam (laptop preinstalled webcam software).
    Please help, these two components are very important to me as I am going overseas soon. The laptop is still under warranty.

    For troubleshooting your Webcam, I would suggest taking a look at the document Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 7). I would suggest the two options Video does not appear in your webcam software (such as YouCam, Skype, Messenger, ect.), and Webcam is not listed in Device Manager.
    For your internal microphone not working either, please take a look at the document Resolving Microphone and Line-in Problems (Windows 7). From this document, I would suggest following the top two symptoms.
    Please let me know the outcome of these troubleshooting steps.

    I have looked at the forums and tried the fixes listed...running a printer head cleaning, checking the vents on the ink cartridge...ect.  Black will still  not print...all other colors are fine.  Does this mean my printer is shot?  Does this meant the end on my relationship with HP?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost       
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.             
    If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • The audio in "speak screen" stops working after a few uses. IOS 8.2 did not fix this problem unfortunately. I'm using the Alex voice on a Sprint iPhone 6 plus- if that matters.

    I really enjoy the speak screen feature, as the voiceover is too inconvenient and tricky to use. The speak screen option works oerfectly for reading, and helps me as I'm dyslexic. However, the Alex voice stops working after the initial use or soon after. I then have to restart the phone every time in order to get the speak screen to acruelly speak again. Really annoying and was hoping that IOS 8.2 Would fix this, but it appears it had not fixed this bug. Any help with this?

    Any problem when connected to another wi-fi network besides your own?
    The only additonal troubleshooting options after powering the iPhone off and on, an iPhone reset, and resetting network settings on the iPhone is restoring the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup and/or restoring with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup.
    If no change after restoring as a new iPhone or not from the backup - the same when connected to any wi-fi network besides your own as well as not being able to maintain internet access when connected to your carrier's cellular network, the iPhone has a hardware problem.

    All I know is that intermittently my camera stops working and it is a big pain to have to reboot whenever I am going have a video chat.
    Anyone got any solutions, I'm not covered by applecare so would rather try and fix it myself if possible?

    If those solutions don't work your iPhone 4s has developed a hardware problem. The permanent solution is to get it replaced. I have not heard of Apple replacing long out of warranty iPhones.
    You can search the internet for heating and freezing solutions that might work (at least for a while).

        Oh boy! Acting kind of weird seems to be an understatement, aquaequus!
    What type of troubleshooting were we able to do with you? I want to make sure that we can get some sort of resolution for this problem.
    It is quite possible the battery door may get your phone in working order again. I'm not sure if the store has it in stock, but it is available in our warehouse for $14.99 which can be ordered via customer service.
