Compressor4 - over 40 hours for a 125min movie - (double layer)

Salute
I am about new to FCPX and Compressor 4, but this is because I was quite confortable with iMovie and my new projects were asking me to jump to the new apps.I am spending hours and hours reading the user's manual and listening to great tutorials but there still is a part of experience I won't get without being on the floor... Here I am.
Got a 125 min movie which I sent from FCPX to Compressor 4 cause I need to deliver it on a DVD - and I've choosen to work on DoubleLayers because all the things you know....
Now, here are my few questions. It keeps on taking 30, 40, 50 hours before burning on a DL disc. I do use the simple mp2 settings for exporting but would it be because I'm using DL disc? I've tried a few versions (saved on my HD) to ProRes422 and it took much less time.
Is it because it's a 2 hours film? It feels like if it was much longer than two separate 60min movies (with all the same settings) - am I right?
Therfore, should I make 2 stand alone movies (in ProRes for instance), and my next issue would be to build a DVD with 2 stand alone movies and try to make chapters with each of 'em (it may sound ridiculous for most of you but I've never done it with Compressor)
On a double layer?
I beleive you got my whole thing...
Thanx for your time

Thank you. Yes, I got one from iDVD. I could read it beautifully on my Mac but it the reading was not nice on a tv, it was not smooth and even but stoping continuously (I dont know the right word!). And what I burned via iDVD was only for trying something.
Because: the project is a 2 hour show which is made of 2 different sets: on hour each. The first hour stands on a ProRes422 QT file (50Go), which I beleive I got from FCP using the Export function - it took a few hours, 7 - 8...
And, since the point was to see how iDVD would manage the project, I simply repeated the 1st set to end up with a DVD containing 2 hours of movie. (by the way, everything was set up for getting a DL, but it kept on telling me "your 2 hours of movies can stand on a simple layer - are you sure you wanna use a DL disc?" - and it burns the DL half its capacities, so it was compressed to 4go when it could be to 8 )
Now, the 2nd set still stands on my timeline since I couldn't make a document out of it without taking 40, 50 up to 70 hours !
I will feel dumb if you tell me I can take a document from my HD somewhere and go to iDVD right from there...
Would it be the CurrentVersion.fcpproject? I beleive the only way a could get a QT document from the 1st set was to take a few hours to make a ProRes out of it, am I wrong?
I have an iMac 27" Quadcore, 16Go ram... 3 hard discs with more then half the space available !!!
I gotta be doin something wrong (?)

the appletv only has flash storage, you mentioned you turned the appletv off - that would have cleared the flash storage.
if you are still within your DRM time limts then you can select them again from the store and you won't be charged.
don't attempt to download more than 1 at a time though.

  • It takes over an hour for the rental movies from itunes to download. is this normal?

it takes over an hour to download. is this normal?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
That all depends on your internet service. 6 Mbps or better is recommended for HD rental content. 2.5 Mbps for SD. You can check your actual internet speed at speedtest.net.
If you'd rather download SD content to avoid waits, you can change the type of content available by default in settings.

  • When i buy a movie in itunes, the dowload said i need weight 14 hours for play the movie really this is true, is a lot of time, somebody help me in this thanks?

    somebody help me in this?

The time it takes will be dependent on your network.
You can see your current connection by going to speedtest.net
HD content will need at least 6mbps for instant playback
Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network)
    If on wifi try ethernet

  • Why does it take 3 hours to download a movie

Why does it take 3 hours to download a movie on apple tv?  Is there a solution??

What kind of internet connection speed do you have?
If you have 3Mbps DSL like I do, and are renting movies on either Apple TV model in HD Format, then it will take quite a while. Actually 3 Hours for an HD Movie would be failry fast here at my home. They are just large files. If I'm going to rent an HD movie, I will usually rent it earlier in the day and watch it when I'm ready.
If you have an adequate internet connection, and just want to rent movies on the fly and don't care about HD, on the AppleTV v2 you can go to Settings / General / iTunes Store / Video Resolution... and select Standard Definition. With our 3Mbps DSL connection, when we rent a movie it is generally "Ready to Play..." within about 2 minutes at the most (enough time to grab a beer and get comfortable)
As far as I know, Standard Definition movies still show on the same menu as the HD version with the ATV v1. I preferred that menu format myself because you didn't have to change the option in settings when you wanted to go back and forth.

  • Apple TV shows take 15 hours to download, HD movies take minutes, why??

This I ridiculous. I've purchased Breaking Bad Season 2 and cannot even watch it on my Apple TV. It says a show will take 15+ hours to download whilst a HD movie will download immediately. Why is this so?

The matter of obtaining a retail or replacement install DVD for Leopard 10.5
can be elusive; some say they'd been able to call AppleCare or Sales Support
US (two different 800 numbers, in Apple site) and for a fee of about $17, get
a white label full install DVD for Leopard 10.5; also said to be available, was
    a white label DVD for Tiger 10.4. {These may or may not still be available;
the kicker here, was some who called over the past year did get them, others
    who called later did not. Then even later on, others were able to get them.}
This topic has come up a few times in ASC discussions, even early this year
with posts in these threads with contact phone numbers to try & order discs.
    And at this moment, I do not have those numbers available to include here;
nor do I know if I did, if the persons who may answer would be able to answer
the question of availability themselves. Appears the answer has changed
depending on who you are able to talk to, there at Apple.
Since those of us who answer these discussions do not know policy nor do
we represent Apple corporate, the results of any finding can be hit & miss.
About browsers. Some exist that are custom builds for PowerPC Mac and
there are some limits due to the nature of the volunteer efforts behind them.
Of them, note of these some only work in OS X 10.5.8; a few offer an older
OS 9 version (see icab site for a classic pre-X version.)
    •TenFourFox - 7450 ("G4e" - see DL link)
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/tenfourfox/files/24.4.0/TenFourFox7450-24.4.0.ap p.zip/download
    •iCab - shareware - runs free w/ small limitation
    http://www.icab.de/dl.php
    •SeaMonkey-for-PPC (OS X 10.5)
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/seamonkey-for-ppc/
For my PPC G4 Macs, which run 10.5.8, I have these three browsers, and
also the Safari browser of the vintage; you can use Safari to set a different
browser as 'default' to the system, so a general browser launch triggers a
different browser than Safari, another one will take its place. I also have
an older Opera browser 10.63 that works, but is not supported w/ updates.
So regarding the purchase of retail label (not grey from a machine series)
DVD for a full install Mac OS X Leopard 10.5, an answer may exist, but
I do not have the details; nor do I know of some are workable answers.
And the discs said to be offered were either vintage replacements so a
caller would need a serial number, to match; or were white label installer
versions for a wider range of machines, not just one built model. So there
is some matter of what they are, and if what you want may really exist!
Some persons had looked into amazon or other possible sources, but if
a seller misrepresents their product, you can't really use what won't work.
You may be able to get old stock unused retail Leopard DVDs, ? online.
{Oh, if you have some favorite classic applications from OS 9.2.2 & before
you should consider a clone of Tiger 10.4.11 system with Classic, so you
can later boot the computer from there, in order to run those old applications.
Leopard does not support Classic in OS X. A backup hard disk drive with
    its own power supply, and with oxford-type chipset, can be used for clones.}
Anyway, I thought to add the browser list; and a few add-ons from FireFox
will work with TenFourFox. I use one that makes the first open browser
window not have a tab. TenFourFox 17 had no tabs by default, now v.24
has tabs. I prefer separate windows so I can drag-drop between them and
do multiple searches or have other topics open at once. Or run two browsers.
    Hopefully this helps somewhat.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • When I try to update to iOS5, iTunes gets stuck on "Backing Up" its been there for hours and it barely moves

When I try to update to iOS5, iTunes gets stuck on "Backing Up" its been there for hours and it barely moves. It finished backing up one then it went to a "Extracting Software" on the iTunes status bar up top and then it gave me an error saying something along the lines of "There was an error with the server" and back to square 1. Ive been trying since the morning and same problem. Always stuck on the backup, help?

You may have lost your connection to the apple server or connection with your itunes library.
    1) You will need to shutdown Itunes and disconnect your iphone from the USB cable.
    2) Reconnect your Iphone to the usb cable, wait for the device to be recognised and or drivers to be installed.
    3) once all ok, your itunes should automatically open up/connect (if you have this setting set on), otherwise double click your itunes icon on your desktop.
    4) once all sychronised and connected. go to Summary tab and UPDATE your iphone again.
Hope this works for you, as this happend to me and tried the above steps and wala!!! all good.
If the above still fails, restart your pc/apple and turn off/on your modem and then try again.
this normally happens if your connection from your device to the itunes hangs or looses its connection, or have a bad connection to the internet / apple server.
in windows the RPC Locator is normally the cause of this, in apple i have no idea (as im not an apply user).
    Give it a shot!
if this helps you and works ...why not rep/like my response up!

    Hey Garlicdaisy,
Thank you for the follow up.
With iCloud, you can have iTunes automatically download new music purchases to all your devices the moment you tap Buy. You can also access past music, movie, and TV show purchases from any of your devices — wirelessly and without syncing.
For more information, see the following:
Apple - iCloud - All your music on all your devices.
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/itunes-in-the-cloud/
To download past purchases on your devices, follow these steps:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
If you want the benefits of iTunes in the Cloud for music you haven’t purchased from iTunes, iTunes Match is the perfect solution:
    Apple - iTunes - Match

    Thanks,

Is that a -50 error message, jolyn?
If so, perhaps try the "Error -50," "-5000," "8003," "8008," or "-42023" section in the Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) section of the following document:

  • Why does it take over two hours to download a movie on Apply tv

Why does it take over two hours to download a  movie on Apple TV
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.
Netflix uses adaptive streaming and can reduce quality right down to produce a stream as low as 0.5 Mbps.

Should I always let my iPad 3rd generation die and charge ? Takes almost close to 12 hours for a 100%  charge. Any suggestions ? iPad is over a year old and don't want to buy a new one if this problem will continue to happen. Help

Do not let the battery drop to 0%. That is very damaging for a lithium based battery, as in the iPad. Charge at any time, for any amount.

  • Waiting hours for movies to load...

I have a 2nd gen ATV and a 3rd gen ATV. I have movies that I have bought from iTunes for the grandkids. I bought the HD versions.
The issue is that when I want to play said movies on our TVs, it says that it will take 7 hours to load the movie. Well, as some of you may know, grandkids (ages 2 & 4) want to watch the movie now, not in 7 hours. The movies are on my MBP in iTunes. I have a dual band router that I thought might help but so far I haven't seen any difference. How does the router know to use the 5mhz channel anyway? It's an ASUS. Back to the movies.... What can a MeMaw do to get ATV to stream my movies????? I want to love ATV but not much love for them right now. What am I doing wrong?? Help, MeMaw in Maryland

Oh, my. I am so embarressed. I didn't realize that accessing via the Movies icon vs through Computers was any different. Hit forehead against the wall, hard. Thank you, vazandrew. And thanks to everyone else that posted a solution.
Here is the screenshot for my wireless network. Look good???
