Computer all messed up

everytime that i turn on my ibook it does not remember any of my preferences nor will it allow me to open some files although it will allow me to listen to music. but it does not recognize any external drive or cd. it still turns on but there's not much i can do. i am afraid that the hard drive is failing. any advice on what might be wrong?

Welcome to Apple Discussions
Do you just have one account? I suggest using Disk Utility on your install/restore discs to see the S.M.A.R.T. status. You have 10.3.9 right? If it says verified I would do an Archive and Install and see if that helps. Don't forget to back your hard drive up; its better to be safe then sorry.

iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

You should give that young man his own account is Users and Groups.

My iCloud is all messed up

How do I upload my Microsoft Outlook to replace the Calendar and Contacts on iCloud? My computer is Windows 7 os and Microsoft Outlook 2007. Icloud is all messed up and will not let me delete incorrect information. It keeps saying it cannot delete because of server error.
So far, I can only download from iCloud and I do not want that!
My iphone 4 and my computer are correct. Only Icloud is wrong. I have had to disable Icloud until I can figure out how to correct it. If anyone knows what I should do, please let me know.

I have also had this issue. I disabled icloud on my PC and my iphone4. I removed the Icloud panel, and basically got my iphone back to where I was syncing the phone with Itunes. Once this was working fine, I went back and re-setup Icloud, as if it was the first time I did it.
Note - you will need to go into ww.icloud.com, and remove all your information from the cloud before you re-sync. It worked for me.

[SOLVED] VGA output all messed up.

I'm having problems getting things to look right when I output video using a converter that converts from VGA to AV or S-Video. The display looks all distorted and the edges are bowed outwards.

The TV's menus look fine, so it leads me to believe that the output from my computer is all messed up.
I have an integrated Intel HD 4000 video card.
Any idea what might be the problem?

There seems to be an alignment problem with the stuff inside the RGB tv because I connected it to another TV and everything is aligned and looks good, so it's not related to my OS at all. This thread can be closed.

The font i used in my KEYNOTE presentation is not available when you upload it to the cloud. So, now my text boxes are all messed up. How can I select ALL font boxes of presentation and change (at least) the font style?

That sounds like you've engaged one of the automatic syncing options for your nano.
Plug the nano in, and go into the Device screen for the nano in itunes. Is "manually manage ..." unchecked? If so, check the box for it, and click okay. Disconnect and reconnect the nano. Is the content on the nano able to be selected in your iTunes now?

I recently had an update on my computer. Now every time I shut the lid of my computer, all of my webpages close. My computer never used to do that. Has anyone had this problem before, and if so, how did you fix it?

I have a MacBook Pro. I had not done any updates on my computer for a long time, but recently I allowed my computer to do one of the updates it had been asking me to do for a long time. Now whenever I shut the lid of my computer, all of my open webpages that I was using close. So the next time I go to use my computer, none of my webpages are available and I have to reopen everything! My computer never used to do that. I am wondering what I need to do to stop my computer from automatically shutting down all of my webpages whenever I close the lid of my computer.

The iPad was bought in mid-June, but I did not get extended Apple-Care warranty on it. Any idea of what's happenening?

Multiple means how many? If only 2 or 3, they could all be faulty. Try the headphones in some other device, to make sure they are OK. Or there could be something wrong with the headphone port.
Your iPad is still covered by the 1-year warranty so you should make a Genius appointment and have it looked at.
Another thing to try is to plug in the headphone jack a few times in succession to see if it frees up something inside the port.

Photo order is all messed up with IOS 6. This used to work in IOS 5.

With IOS 6.0, the order in which photos are displayed on iphone and ipad is all messed up.
In iPhoto, you see them sorted by date taken. When you sync this with itunes and view them on ipad/iphone, they show up in the wrong order (sorted by date modified).
This used to work in IOS 5.0. Apple has changed something in IOS 6.0 and I hate it.

Same issue here. What i´ve realized is that the photos are only sorted wrong in event folders. Sorting is correct in the overall photo archive. This is really annoying.

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
