Computer as video source

Thanks for all the help on the auto-stop function, it worked!
Now for my next question:  Is there any way to pull the video from the computer as the video source.  What I am looking to do is to capture a PowerPoint presentation with audio (speaker talking) from the room it is being presented in (audio will not be an issue as we already have the capability), rather than video from the room.  Is there any way to do this without any cabling loops?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike and Neha,
There are a few Production Video Switcher that have both regular Video Inputs and a VGA Computer Input, where the VGA is scan converted internally down to video - so that a video signal can be passed to an encoder running Flash Media Encoder 2.5 or 3.0.
Edirol makes a V-8 Switcher just like this for about $2000.  You can also buy a cheaper swicther like their LVS-400 and add a external Scan Converter like from Kramer US.

Crushing a hi-res VGA signal down to TV resolution is not a good thing.  But that si the ganme that has to be played for most people.

  • Use iPad as a computer video source

After two days of searching for information I'm posting here hoping that someone else has perhaps found out how to do this.
I'm interested in using an iPad as a video source on a computer.
I'll be more specific as so many people seem to love providing answers for something other than the actual question, or tell someone that they should do something other than what they actually asked about.
My college uses Tegrity which is a lecture capture application for recording class lectures.  In addition to capturing the content of the teacher's computer screen, video sources such as an attached video camera can be selected from a list of video devices and capture full-rate video to include with the lecture.
I'm trying to find a solution that would allow me to attach an iPad to a computer and have the computer see the iPad as a video source.  It would then need to push what is happening on the ipad screen to the computer to be recorded as if it were an attached camera.
I guess in a way it would be an airplay camera.  I've found a way to have the actual iPad camera show up as a video source, but not the iPad screen itself.
    tia

Sorry but this won't work.  It does't allow the iPad to be seen as a video source by the computer.  I've tried Reflection which is an app similar to this, but still not what I need which is:  iPad=video source
    Thanks tho.

  • Final Cut Timeline Feed as video source for iChat?

I was at the Apple NAB presentation in Vegas a few weeks ago, and one of the things they showcased in regard to iChat AV was the ability for an editor to videoconference with several other people at once and one of the video feeds in the chat window was actually the output from the editor's Final Cut Pro timeline. As he made changes in the FCP timeline, he could play it out in real time and all the people in the chat could see the video feed and make comments on the edit.
OK- so we were excited because that's a workflow issue we have here. So, we bought some iSight cameras and Tiger and started to do some testing here. The only problem is that it doesn't seem very easy to set up. At first I just thought, "well, they are just playing the timeline out of the firewire port on the FCP machine and another computer is ingesting that firewire stream as a video source for iChat." except when you connect 2 Macs together with a firewire cable, the FCP system doesn't detect a DV video device to output to and the iChat system doesn't detect the incoming firewire stream as a "camera". I spoke to tech support and they said it's not something they support so no luck there.
I did find an article on Creative Cow about someone doing something similar, but it involved exporting the FCP timeline out through a Kona analog video card into an external tape deck that does analog to DV conversion which then can be imported back into iChat as a DV stream, but last time I checked, a Kona card would run me around 1500 bucks.
    Anyone have any other ideas?

    HI Jeremy,
Welcome to the Aple Discussion Pages.
Based on the Auto Responding iChat Accounts that play films I would guess they were either using an AppleScript to import FCP as the Video sourdce or usiing an Add-On like iChatUSBCam that also alows you to change the video source to the desktop.

  • Apple IIGS RGB Monitor, does it display anything without a video source?

I have a Apple IIGS RGB monitor no cable or computer to test it with. I just want to sell the monitor at this point. I don't recall in the past if this monitor displayed anything when it was powered on just lit up with when there was no video source. I just don't have the room to keep it and want to test it out. Since I have no way to get video is there a way to be able to test the monitor.
That is does it show raster to something when powered up without a video source. I don't recall what my old monitors did without video. I don't think I remember turning them on without video. Would I assume that is should work if the power light comes on but no picture(no video source) or should it at least have raster(white or some color screen)?
    Thanks again,
    Nick

    Nico95 wrote:
Thank you, thats what I was afraid of. So it probably works, but I guess I will have to say it powers up and I have no way to test the video source to make sure. Does that sound about right? *I did try to adjust the brightness and contract but didn't see any changes.*
    Thanks again,
    Nick
You're leaving out the most vital part in your summary. You should be able to see change in the brightness if you crank it up. You need to put that in your description for full disclosure.

  • Error 0 x BFF6001F Cannot detect recognizable video source

    Hi
    Facing this error message
error 0 x BFF6001F Cannot detect recognizable video source
    Labview 7.1 with a NI-IMAQ Vision 7.1.1
    Imaq card NI-PCI-1407
I am not able to detect a CCD camera on this card. This is what , I have done so far :
Tried 3 different cameras ( all irs 170 out put) on a computer with the same image acquisition card ( PCI 1407) ---- all cameras work well
Now when I go to a different computer with the same software and same card , I am facing the error
error 0 x BFF6001F Cannot detect recognizable video source
Card itself is able to pass the self-test.
I have compared all the parameters in the tabs under Channel0:rs170 and they are same in two different computers.
    Can you suggest something..?
    Thanks
    Deepak
    LAB View 2010 SP1

    Hi Deepak,
There are a lot of things that could be causing that error.  The first thing that you could check is the power that the camera gets at the computer where it does not work.  If the camera is not getting enough power or is getting "dirty" power, it could cause that error.  Are the computers in two different locations?  Can you verify that everything works in one computer and not in the other when the power source is the same, i.e. same outlet, same power adapter and cabling?
Once we have removed power from the equation, you should check the video signal itself.  If you have a scope or a DAQ card, you can probe the line and see what the signal looks like.  This article discusses analog signals, and you should see something similar to the signal in the second figure.
Let me know what you find.

  • How to use iPhone 4 as video source...?

I need to use iPhone 4 as video source for iMovie and FrameByFrame. http://web.mac.com/philipp.brendel/Software/FrameByFrame.html
It's odd that Apple's products don't recognize each other.
I can hook up several brands of old crappy camcorders without issue, but I can't use the HD video from my Apple branded device.
Has anyone discovered a work around?

  • Can I have an external video source run in a window instead of using the full display?

I'm aware that the 27" iMac models are capable of accepting external video sources, but I'm wondering if it's possible to have an external video source run in a window on the desktop, rather then use the full display. Does anyone know if there's any software I can download to allow this, or will I have to purchase a special capture device?

hat I DON'T WANT TO OPEN the window application FROM the Labview VI BUT IN the Labview VI. I think it's possible to do that and to do communicate the OpenGL application with the Labview Interface using an ActiveX but I don't know how. Can someone help me ?The desired behavior you desribed may not be possible with that application. In general LabVIEW does not offer a window object that other standalone applications can run it. The closest thing is the ActiveX container. If the programmers for your application created an activeX control of your program and they provided documentation, it should be pretty easy to incorperate the app and labview into one window. I recommend contacting the manufacuturer of the app to see if they have an activeX control version of the app.

If your code was an SSCCE*, I could run it
against some images that I have successfully
used to create MOV's (using my own variant of
    JPEGImagesToMovie).
    It isn't, so I can't.
The only thing I can suggest (off the top of
my head) is that the images need to be all
the same size/width, and the same as
specified for the MOV, otherwise a corrupted
    MOV will be written.

  • Computer for Video Editing for the Present and Beyond

In an earlier post I announced that I have been a Premiere Elements user since Day One, and I also mentioned I was looking to have a new computer built from scratch rather than purchase from Dell or HP. I am close to finalizing that build, and am looking forward to upgrading to Elements 8.0. I am also looking forward to becoming a subscriber to Muvipix.com. Becoming a part of the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum coupled with being an eventual subscriber to Muvipix.com has elevated my enthusiasm for video editing. Special Thanks go to Bill Hunt and Steve Grisetti for anchoring this Adobe Pre E Forum. Your advice has motivated me to take my video editing with Premiere Elements to another level.
Speaking of advice, what does everyone think of the following specifications for my new computer? Is this a solid computer for video editing? In some cases some components lack specificity (model numbers, brand names, et cetera). Suggestions and comments will be greatly appreciated as I take this final step. Thanks to all!

I read your computer spec sheet. Thanks for sharing. You  said the ideal thing to do is use the computer just for video editing.  Best way to go. However, you still need an OS, which requires updates.  And you need to update drivers, and then there are product updates and  add-ons. You need to connect with the Internet to do all of this
I do not have $$ or space to have 2 computers, so my single computer is for day to day work, and video editing as a hobbyist... which of course is not "ideal" for video editing... but I don't make $$ at this, so I use what I have
I am still learning about Win7 64bit, so do not have all the startup process optimized... that is my next project, to figure out what does not need to be running, and remove that un-needed stuff from the startup

  • Quicktime 10 doesn't recognize external video source.

Setting up my new 27" iMac, and discover that Quicktime 10 doesn't recognize an external video source fed in through the firewire port. It is an older Sony analog to digital video converter, and goes through a FW400 to FW800 converter. Quicktime doesn't even "see" that video source as a choice when recording, nor does iMovie, even though it shows up in the System Profiler.
Apps that were ported over from my previous system, however, such as "Video Viewer" and "Final Cut Pro" do see the source, presumably because they were configured to do so on the old system.
Is there some global settings file that I can edit, or something similar that I can do, to make it visible to all apps?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Quicktime 7 does recognize the video source, but newer apps, such as iMovie, won't. I'd like to be able to capture to iMovie, but can't without the video source being recognized. Is there a fix?
    Thanks!

  • New computer and video monitors for HD and PP CS5.5

    Dear All,
I have recently updated to Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection to work in conjuntion with Final Cut Pro.  I've been working with a Canon XL-1s, taping with mini-dv format in Standard Definition up to this time but am thinking of buying the Panasonic AG-AC160 AVCCAM and upgrading to High Definition.
I'm working on a Mac Pro and have been using a View Sonic computer monitor and a Sony Video Monitor that I've had for years -- left over from the old analog video tape days, but it still seems to do the job well.
I'm learning Premiere Pro CS5.5 and the suite seems to be working o.k., so that is not a problem at this time.
My question is:  If I start working in high definition, do I need to change my computer and video monitors in order to get professional results from my editing software?  I have done documentaries and want to do them in high def and have the best video for podcasts and mobile applications.
I don't want to spend another gazillion dollars on monitors if I don't have to, but I do want to provide the best video that I can and I will buy what I need.
Thanks for your suggestions and any info you can provide.
    Small Town Gal

    Dear taz291819
Thanks for your help.  I have one more question.  Do I actually need two monitors or will the computer monitor serve as a video monitor?  I'm used to the old analog process of viewing the final video on a video monitor, but with HD, I would think that the computer monitor would give the same result as a separate video monitor.  My ViewSonic would work, I'm sure, but it's a bit small for the HD format and I would like a bigger screen to work on.  So, can I just use the computer monitor for editing and viewing the final product?
For Harm Millaard, I just think that HD will produce a better final product in small formats viewed as podcasts or on mobile phones -- plus almost everyone wants everything in HD now, and for some of the things I will be doing, it will undoubtedly give a better product.  I want to upgrade my camera anyway, so I want to go to HD.

  • Canon Powershot SD600 as video source?

Currently considering the purchase of a new digital photocamera, the Canon Powershot SD600. One of the things I hope to use it for, is as a 'webcam' ... my Powerbook doesn't have a built-in iSight and I don't use it often enough to actually buy an iSight for these video chat purposes.
    So my question is ...
Can an external camera be used as a 'video source' on my Powerbook ... and can it be used in iChat?

I would guess it depends on how dark the room really is. The SX60 has a very small sensor in it and starts to get noisy if the lighting is too low. That camera does not have a real fast lens and quickly loses light catching ability as you zoom in. Can you add some additional lighting to help your situation? I realize that may not be a possibility. Is there any way you can increase the ISO setting just a bit, or make sure the aperture is as close to f3.4 when shooting? These may not be available in video modes, but if they are, it could help you.
Cameras with larger sensors and brighter lenses will generally do better in lower light situations. If you are doing a lot of shooting in the dark you might need to consider a second camera with these traits.

  • Error 1074397153 Cannot Detect Recognizable Video source

I'm using a single PCI1410 card to acquire images from two cameras and display those images in Labview using the Multiple Camera Acquisition.vi found on the NI website.  I'm running Windows XP, and my two cameras are Sony XC-HR70's with a resolution of 1024X768 each, running ~15FPS (total for both) thru the frame grabber.  I have one camera as a master, supplying the HD & VD synch signals for both my slave camera and the PCI1410.  Here is my problem:
Whenever I change the light intensity for the cameras drastically (ie, abruptly shutting off the light source or blocking the camera), I get an error in Labview:  "1074397153 @ IMAQ Extract Buffer.vi.   NI-IMAQ: Cannot detect recognizable video source".  If I perform a gradual decrease in light intensity, I don't get the error.  Unfortunately, the users often need to toggle on and off my camera illuminators abruptly, so a gradual transition is not an option.
I thought this was a MAX issue, but it is not-MAX gives no errors regardless of light intensity.
I also tried decreasing the white level and/or increasing the black level-(per NI Knowledgebase post) all that did was decrease my image quality, error still appeared.  The error first appears in imgwaitforimaqoccurrence.vi which is inside imgsessionexaminebuffer.vi.
If I could somehow ignore the error and insert a ~ 500mS delay and then re-attempt to acquire video lock, it would probably work.  Just not sure how to do this, or if it is the right approach.  Any ideas?

    Hey wowens,
I was wondering if you ran just a simple grab example program, and perform the same action of shutting off the camera's light source, do you get the same error? The error you are getting means that the frame grabber is not receiving any data from the camera in the expected timeout period. There shouldn't be any reason why decreasing the light quickly should stop the camera from sending data, as the camera should still be sending some data, like all black pixels or something. I might suggest tapping the data coming in with an oscilloscope to see if the data stops when you decrease the light. If you can't do this, I might suggest altering the code so that you don't stop the loop. You could also look at the shipping example called LL Scan Multiple Channels.VI. What version of the NI-IMAQ driver are you using? I would suggest that you upgrade to the most recent if you don't have it. Other than that it sounds like you need to find out what is causing the error before you start to find a solution.
I hope this helps at least a little. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, and have a great day.
    Regards,
    DJ L.
