Computer authorisation

Hi there - I am trying to use Adobe Digital Editions to download books onto my daughter's kobo.  I have managed to set up an Adobe ID/password which works on the main Adobe site.  The next step seems to be an Adobe dialogue box asking me to "authorise my computer".  I have entered my Adobe I.D/password and am told "connection error.  Digital Editions could not connect to the activation centre.  Please make sure you are connected to the internet"  I am connected.  I see on these forums lots of people seem to have problems at this point.  I have tried one of the solutions suggested - uninstalling Digital Editions 2.0, and using D.E 1.7.2 instead - unfortunately the link given seems to be to an expired page, so I've had to reinstall D.E 2.0 again. Computer authorisation still not working. Any other suggestions?  Thanks - Jenny

One problem is that ADE does not accept passwords with special characters,
even though the web site allows you to set them and ADE won't tell you that is the problem.
Another is confused registration:
~~~~~
Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0
  • Computer authorised - but not!
    I have a half-dozen tracks I purchased from the iTMS, which I have copied from my old iPod, onto my MacBook Pro. I logged into my iTMS account and authorised them to be played on the MBP (which, presumably means I can copy them to my new iPod). It seemed to go through the reauthorisation process and I received a message along the lines of "Authorisation Successful: You have now used up 2 of your 5 permitted authorisations."
    I then attempted to play the tracks in iTunes, only to receive an error: - "You are not authorised to play this track on this computer". Eh, what?! I just authorised the computer and was told it was successful! So I tried again. And again. And again. I have now attempted to authorise this computer at least 2 dozen times.
    Of course I receive the same error when attempting to copy them to my new iPod.
    Is anyone else experiencing issues with (re)authorisation? I should add, in case it wasn't obvious from my spelling, that I'm based in the UK.
    I have failed in my attempts to get any sense out of Apple Support, as I have yet to speak to anyone to whom English is anything other than a distant relation!
    As you can imagine, this is more than a little frustrating. I am running 10.4.9 and whatever the most updated version of iTunes is (7.2?)
    Cheers for any assistance - before I lose any more hair!
    This may not apply, but I've learned to check: are you sure that when you authorize that you're using the iTunes Store ID that you used when you purchased those tracks? Sometimes people forget that they used a different account for some tracks and so are confused when a track doesn't play.
    Just FYI, Apple phone support cannot help with any iTunes Store issues. For iTunes Store problems, you need to use the web forms at the bottoms of most of the pages on the iTunes Store Customer Service site.
  • New computer authorised..How do i best transfer "purchased music"?
    Hi, i've had i tunes for a while and have a purchased list that i would like to transfer to my partners new macbook pro which is now authorised to my account.. Problem is she is about 4000 km away for the next few months with average connection speeds. Any ideas about how to get the list on her computer?? Thanks, Mike
    Create a playlist: drag the items to it. Control-click it to burn it to a CD or DVD - make sure that if it's a CD you choose data CD, not audio CD. Post the CD. Christmas post excepted, it will probably get there quicker than a transfer over the internet. She can then just drag the songs into iTunes.
  • ITunes computer authorisation
    how can a reset my itunes match account to avoid waiting 90 days before re-autherising my computer?
    The 90 day period applies if you try to use a different Apple Id on the same device.  It is intentional and there is no route to avoid, other than not to accept the option when prompted at the outset.
  • HT204053 What happens if I click 'deauthorise all' under 'computer authorisations' in Account Information?
    By clicking this do I then get an option to delete one of the computers? Don't want to click it and find I lose everything and can't access iTunes!
    By clicking on it you will deauthorise your account on all of the computers that it is currently authorised on, you don't get a list of computers. It won't remove any of your content from those computers, it just means that you won't be able to to use your iTunes downloads on them until your reauthorise them, which you can do straight away.
  • New bios has removed computer authorisation.
    I recently ugraded my bios on my A8R32 MVP Deluxe motherboard. After rebooting I found that all my music was unauthorised for my computer. I have of course reauthorised it! Problem is that due to the recent purchase of this new machine and a couple of previous windows reinstalls on the old one I am now at four out of five authorizable machines. I realise that I can reset this every year however due to the newness of my harware and the likelihood of there being a number of system upgrades for it as they work the bugs out will I have to sacrifice updates for my music or vice versa?
    Deauthorize before you mod the computer, then authorize after you are done.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93014
    "Make sure you deauthorize your computer before you upgrade your RAM, hard disk or other system components. If you do not deauthorize your computer before you upgrade these components, one computer may use multiple authorizations. If you find you have reached 5 authorizations due to system upgrades, you can reset your authorization count by clicking Deauthorize All in the Account Information screen. Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers or if you have used this option within the last 12 months"
  • Computer authorisations
    Hi
    I have 4 machines authorised to play content purchased with my account.
    In reality I have only 1 machine that should be in use.
    The reason why I have 3 extra in use is because my hard disk died and I have had 2 motherboard failures on my desktop which as a result lost 3 authorisationm as I was unable to deauthorise my account as I was forced to replace faulty part and also forced to reinstall windows in all 3 cenarios as pc would blue screen even in safe mode when I replaced faulty motherboard.
    Is it possible to get my counter to register to just 1 account in use so I should really have 4 spare again.
    Please advise as I have lived with this for a while now.
    Kind regards
  • Changing computer  authorisation
    brought new computer can't seem to login on the same ID and upload my ebooks.  I will not be using the older computer with digital editions .. How can I do this ?
    I'm having the same problem. Actually when I loaded Digital Editions onto my new computer I accidentially select No Adobe ID required. Now I need to transfer an eBook to my Nook. I went back to change the authorization but can't. I keep getting the message that an Adobe ID already exists against that email. I can't establish a new ID using a different email because the eBook is sent to me under my original authorization.
  • HT1541 computer authorisations 5computers are authorised for use with this apple id
    you may only deauthorize all computers once per year you must wait until 30 july2012 before you may deauthorize all your computers again if you are having problems deauthorizing computers please contact apple customer support by visiting
    If you've already used the 'deauthorise all' within the past 12 months then have you tried contacting iTunes support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ ?
  • HT1420 I can't deauthorise my daughter's last computer from iTunes because it has crashed. We have three computers in the house but I can't authorise my new MacbookPro for iTunes or homesharing. So I can't even get my music from my old Macbook into my new
    I can't deauthorise my daughter's last computer from iTunes because it has crashed. We have three computers in the house but I can't authorise my new MacbookPro for iTunes or homesharing because it says I have 5 computers authorised (I don't). I can't even get my music from the iTunes library on my old Macbook onto my new one, because it won't let me sync my iPhone 5 with my old Macbook, as I can't update the iTunes software. So I have a new MacbookPro and a new iPhone 5 and I can't get any of my music on either of them. I feel singularly depressed.
    As you have more than 1 computer authorised then you should be able to log into your account on your computer's iTunes (Store > View My Account) and 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every 12 months) and you can then authorise/reauthorise the computers that you still have and need : authorising and deauthorising.
  • Re-authorising computer after TimeMachine restore
    I have had to resort to reloading the whole MBP with TimeMachine backups twice now. On each occasion it was necessary to authorise the computer in order to proceed with standard iPhone syncing. It tells me I have used up two of the five allowable computer authorisations - despite it being the self same computer on both occasions.
    What happens when I have done my fifth TimeMachine restore? Does the iPhone then become useless?
  • How to deauthorise iTunes on a computer I no longer have when less than 5 computers have been authorised?
    My MacBook Pro was stolen yesterday. It was the only computer authorised to use my iTunes account. I have changed my passwords, but I want to be super safe and deauthorise it. The problem is, there seems to be no option to deauthorise a computer if you no longer have it if you have not authorised your maximum 5 computers.
    Short of authorising every computer in the house and all my friends' laptops, can I force deauthorisation on my stolen computer? There's no adequate explanation from Apple or the discussions (that I can easily find).
    I'm currently using a 2005 MacBook running OSX 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.0.3 (the highest version I can run).
    You can't deauthorise a computer remotely, other than by using the 'Deauthorise all' falicity for which at least two computers have to be authorised. You should be able to do this if you first authorise just one other computer.
    Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
    If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
    Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
    In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
    Though I'm guessing here, it's possible you may need to change the password back to what it was on the stolen computer first - it would make sense if this were the case, but I don't know for certain.
  • HT1420 how to deauthorize a computer that is not with me anymore?
    how to deauthorize a computer that is not with me anymore?
    If you log into your account via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes then on your account's screen (under the 'Apple ID Summary' heading) there should be a 'Computer Authorisations' line with a 'Deauthorise All' button to the right of it - you can only 'deauthorise all' once every 12 months.
  • I can't sync my macbook air with my ipad, problems with authorization... this keeps cropping up: "The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permi"
    "The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed."
    Not sure how we can correct his permissions problem, and whether authorising or deautorizing makes any difference, with more and more errors keep popping up, this got to be such after an update of the OS, can remember which!?
    HELP!!!
    follow this:
    Launch iTunes
    select iTunes Store from the menu on the left side.
    sign in via the link on the top right area if you haven't done so already
    click the link where you Apple ID email appears, enter your Apple ID password, click View Account, this will take you to a page displaying detailed information about your Apple ID account.
    The last item under Apple ID summary should be Computer Authorisations, click Deauthorize All
    now reauthorize any computers as needed when the system prompts you.
    good luck.
