Computer Browser Service disabled on DCs

I have 2 DCs...
1) Physical Server 2012 - GC, DNS Integrated, DHCP
2) Virtual Server 2012  - GC, DNS Integrated, DHCP, FSMO, RID Master, PDC Master, Infrastructure Master
While troubleshooting network browsing on a 2003 server, I noticed that the Computer Browser service is disabled on both these DCs.  Is this right?  We do have some computers that are workgroup only.

Hello,
the Computer browser service is still the same on the OS versions. See here why it is disabled and where to enable the service if NetBios is required.

  • Question about configuring Computer Browser service

On network computers after the net view command displayed different lists of computers.
All computers are in the same domain. OS: Windows Server 2012, 2012R2, Windows 8, 8.1. On all computers except domain controllers and another server using Group Policy disabled Computer Browser service. I can not understand why the
net view command provides different lists of computers.
I can provide more detailed information.

    Hi,
The NetBIOS will be discard in the future it recommend you use DNS name resolution, in your case if the NetBIOS based name resolution is necessary it recommend you create
    a WIN server.
In a Windows NT domain structure, the primary domain controller (PDC) is always selected as the domain master browser. Only the PDC can be a domain master browser. If a PDC
is not present, a domain master browser is not available and you are unable to obtain browse lists from workgroups other than the workgroup you are located in.
With the multi subnet you must configure your router to allow the WINS related protocol through the different subnet.

  • Cisco UNITY Failover Configuration with no Computer Browser Service

    Hi,
Actually i'm configuring a unity failover server with version 7, at this point i'm triyng to add the failover server thru the failover configuration wizard which should list the failover server, but in this customer as a domain policy the computer browser service is disabled, reason why the failover server does not appear on the list of computers.
Does any one have any idea on how to deal with this issue?
    Thanks.

  • Not working properly Computer Browser service in Windows Server 2012

    Good afternoon.
Migrated from 2003 to 2012 Active Directory, all is good, but the service Computer Browser in Windows Server 2012 is not working properly.
Online, there are several hundred computers, one network, no segments. PDC is the Master Browser, it is in my list of all the computers, but gives customers or Backup Browser computers only part, and in alphabetical order, giving the first 70 computers and
    all.
    Looked packet sniffer:
Microsoft Windows Lanman Remote API Protocol
    Entry Count: 70
    Available Entries: 251
So on Master Browser shows 251 computer, and the client 70.
If disabled on Windows Server 2012 Service Computer Browser, Master Browser is a computer running Windows Server 2003. He gives all computers.
What is the problem, how to get Windows Server 2012 to work correctly as a Master Browser?

More info. I have high lighted in bold where the issue is. This is a massive headache for me at the moment

  • Question about Master Browser service and computer browsing across subnets

So i have a client that has a domain controller functioning as a DNS, WINS, and DHCP client for their two site network. They are "too busy" to actually migrate to the domain we set
them up from a workgroup configuration despite my assurances of a simple change over with virtually no user interruption.
They do however still want windows computer browsing services across their vpn tunnel between the two sites. Ive been pulling my hair out trying to get this done, but im starting to think its
just not possible without migrating to the domain. Any ideas?
The server is windows 2012 r2 standard and all the machines are on windows 7 professional

    Hi,
You can enable computer browsing service on workgroup computers, but as  browser service is bound by broadcast segments, a cross-site computer browsing service will not work without primary domain controller (PDC).

  • Windows Update Service Disabled - Error 80070422

    Hi,
On Windows Vista Ultimate SP1, when I go to Windows Update I see a "Check For Updates" button. When I click it I get an 80070422 error and "Try Again" button which does not work.
I have tried all that is explained in Help on this error, but it's still not working. Let me write in more detail: I opened "Administrative Tools", went to "Services", "Windows Update" service is disabled. I set the "Startup Type" to "Automatic", click on Apply and then I click the "Start" button to start the service. I get an error: 1058: "Windows could not start the Windows Update service on Local Computer", "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it".
I downloaded "WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" and installed it, hoping that the problem will be fixed, but no luck.
I read somewhere on this forum that a user faced a similar problem and searched in "Windows\System32" for "wu*.*" files and changed the security settings for all of them to allow SYSTEM and Administrators full control and re-registered through "regsvr32" all of the .dll files, but, after doing all of these I still had no luck.
My Windows Update still displays the error 80070422 and when I try to start the Windows Update service I get the error that the service cannot be started and it always sets itself on "Disabled", no matter what I do.
Could someone please help me with this problem? I really don't know what else to do.

On the third scan, no other infections were found. Seems this was the problem. Thanks again, mate, your post was a life saver.

  • Google safe browsing service is unavailable

In my preferences of Safari is appeared this: "google safe browsing service is unavailable"
Thank you very much for your help

Hi fellow Granite Stater - have you looked at Activity monitor to see what's using so much CPU and causing the fan to run so loudly? You might also want to reset the PRAM to see if that will help your icons stick.
Have you emptied Safari's caches? You can try resetting it as well.
Does using Firefox produce the same fan problems?
I suggest you back up all your data to an external and then run DiskWarrior or TechToolPro if you have either, or run the Apple Hardware test from your install disk.
It might be a good idea to check things using Disk Utility:
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Reboot and repair permissions from your hard drive.
    Please post back with results,

I just replaced the power supply. Now I get a message that reads: "102-System Board Failure. Unrecoverable error. Your computer needs servicing."
    What does this mean?

    MHM30F10, welcome to the forum.
It is difficult to know exactly what has happened.  However, I suspect that there has been damage to the motherboard while installing the power supply unit (PSU).  It could be that there is an incorrect connection, also.

  • SQL Server browser services.

we have two instance of sql server 2014,
In Services,  It shows only one SQL Server browser services.
Is it true there is  only one SQL Browser service for both instances.
    Thanks
    V

    Yes, This is normal.
Prior to SQL Server 2000, only one instance of SQL Server could be installed on a computer. SQL Server listened for incoming requests on port 1433, assigned to SQL Server by the official Internet
Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). Only one instance of SQL Server can use a port, so when SQL Server 2000 introduced support for multiple instances of SQL Server, SQL Server Resolution Protocol (SSRP) was developed to listen on UDP port 1434. This listener
service responded to client requests with the names of the installed instances, and the ports or named pipes used by the instance. To resolve limitations of the SSRP system, SQL Server 2005 introduced the SQL Server Browser service as a replacement for SSRP.

  • Browser is disabled by IT Policy

When I try to access an internet site on my blackberry I get the message "Browser is disabled by IT Policy". Yet if a link in embedded in an email the browser connects to the site correctly.
    Browser
    Default browser configuration: BB Browser
Default MDS browser configuration: BB Browser
Also under Option and Advanced OptionsBrowser PushChecked Enable PushChecked Enable MDS push
Checked Enable WP PushService Load, Service Indication, and Other Messages are all set to: Process MDS Auto
MDS Hosts Allow AllProcess SMSC AutoSMSC Hosts Allow AllProcess IP AutoIP Hosts Allow All
The same IT policy is applied to all other BlackBerries in the company (BES with Exchange) and they do not have the problem.  We resent the IT policy to the handheld but that did not solve the problem.  We also changed the IT Policy to allow any Browser and applied it to the BlackBerry then the browser worked on the BlackBerry.  Changed the IT policy back and the problem came back.
Talked to Verizon Wireless tech support and they are out of ideas

I just had this problem, and what I did to solve it was checking the "browser" setting when editing each bookmark. In my case it was set to "hotspot browser" which was disabled under the IT policy. Updated each bookmark that didn't work to "internet browser" and the issue had been resolved. Hopefully this solution will work for you as well.

  • Unable to start SQL Server Browser service in Sql server 2005

we are unable to start the SQL browser service on one of our machine with below error.
I believe this to be the reason, why we could not connect to the instance with below error
I tried troubleshooting as mentioned here, by changing
value in registry from 1 to 0, but still no luck.
    SQLservices are also running.
Please help on how to resolve this!

    Hello,
You say that SQL Server Browser Service belongs to a SQL Server 2005, but based on the name of the instance is a SQL Server
    2012 instance.
Do you have any issues installing/uninstalling SQL Server 2005 or 2012? One of them 32-bit and the other 64-bit?
    Hope this helps.

  • Tiger - All Sahring Options/Services disabled, greyed out

    Hello from Portugal!
I noticed that on System Preferences I had all my Sharing services disabled and cannot select any of them (greyed out). Also, the Firewall Tab was disabled to (greyed out), and I couldn't select it either. I noticed that as the first option (also greyed out) I had a new service called "M82" ( ? ) that I had never seen before.
1- So I did a Archive and Install from Tiger 10.4.0 original DVD to try to find out what update cause this strange behavior.
2- After that I updated from 10.4.0 to 10.4.11 (Combo update) with Software Update.
3- After that I checked the Sharing services and all was well and normal. I could select/activate all the Sharing Option and the Firewall Tab was back to normal again.
4- I returned to Software Update and Made the folowing updates/instalations:
    . Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2 (2.0)
    . QuickTime (7.6)
    . Migration and DVD/CD Sharing (1.1)
    . Safari 3.2.1
5- After the restart I checked again and all my Sharing services and Firewall Tab were once again disabled. Also, the mysterious new service "M82" (also disabled) was back again.
So the cause of this problem is one (or more) of the updates I made in step 4 (maybe not Safari 3.2.1).
What can I do to resolve this issue without having to install Tiger 10.4.0 again?
    Thank you for your help!

    Thanks for your help BDAqua,
I modified my system language from Portuguese (Portugal) to english an all got back to normal.
altought it's a solution to resolve this specific problem, it's forces me t use english instead of my mother language. Not wise. I'm going to contact Apple to fix this.
    Thanks again!
