Computer cannot find ipod!

Hello,
I purchased a 1gb ipod shuffle about 6 months ago, and have had no problems with it until recently. For the past week I have been unable to edit the songs in iTunes or reset it with the ipod updater. I have tried uninstalling the USB massive storage device in the drivers, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and I have updated to the most recent ipod updater. One weird thing I've noticed is that when I plug in my ipod or open the updater, this autoplay loading screen comes up for a few minutes. The only place where I can see that my computer recognizes the ipod is in My Computer, where the drives are listed. It comes up as Removable Disk (H:)
Thanks for any help you can give me.

~fixed it.
steps taken:
Opened up My Computer, right clicked on my ipod H:\ drive, and went to format. Restarted my computer, and everything works fine again

  • I can't play a number of songs in my library because my computer cannot find the original file?

Even though I downloaded these songs from the iStore, my computer cannot seem to locate the files and i've lost well over $50 in music that i have purchased. I have no idea how to fix this and I have a road trip tomorrow. I need help!

    Hello kcculbertson,
It sounds like some of your purchases are not being found and have the exclamation point to the left in iTunes so they will not play. Take a look at this article to see if you can locate them:
iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1408
If you cannot locate the files, you can always delete them from the list in iTunes where they will not play, and then re download them free of charge from the iTunes Store with this article:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12491
Click iTunes Store near the top of the iTunes window.
Click the Purchased link at the right of the iTunes Store homepage (below Quick Links).
In the page that appears, select a category.iTunes shows you which of your purchases are available for download. You can view all of your past purchases, or just the ones not currently in your iTunes library. Items already in your library aren’t available for download. If you select Music, you can view your purchases by song, artist, or album. If you’re viewing by album, click an album to see which songs on it are available for downloading. To search for an item, type its name or a keyword in the search field, and then press the Return key to view your search results.
To download an item, click its Download button .To download all available items, click Download All.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I had my MacBook Pro running Mt Lion OS X 10.8.3 disconnected from my Time Capsule, gen4 for a month.  Upon returning, I get the message that my computer cannot connect to the Time Capsule for backup.  It does however, pick up the wireless internet.  How do I reconnect for backup?

  • Windows vista, Ipod shuffle 4th gen.  Computer cannot find device driver software for ipod.

After several hours trying the troubleshooting options provided by the apple support site, I have come to what I think is the issue here.  My girlfriend recently got an ipod shuffle and when plugging it into her computer the dialog pops up saying it is installing device driver software for the ipod.  Eventually it asks me to insert the CD that came with the ipod.  No CD came with the ipod, so I click the option that says "I do not have my cd".  Then it gives me the option of searching automatically or manually for the driver software.  The automatic way can't find it.  Doing it manually, with the help of the troubleshooting page, didn't work either.  google search can't seem to help me on this one.  Also, I tried plugging the ipod into my computer (not hers) and it worked fine, it was able to install the device driver software on its own.  Does anybody know the issue here?  My computer has windows 7, and hers has vista.  Hers is Serice Pack 1.  When I tried installing service pack 2 it wouldnt work.  I don't know if that is the issue though.  I have tried just about everything, I think the issue is finding the device driver software.  When I do a google search nothing comes up, so I have no idea what to do at this point.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Well its surprising to know that! But even  have an ipod shuffle 3rd gen n dint face any problem like that. FYI no cd comes with the ipod jus take ur ipod to an apple exoert n he will solve ur problem .

  • "USB Device not recognized" -- Computer cannot recognize ipod.

My computer (HP laptop) just, out of nowhere, stoped recognizing my ipod.
The message that comes up is "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows cannot recognize it." It comes up as an "Unknown device" instead of a USB Mass Starage Device or an ipod.
The only reason this problem may have occored is because my friend borrowed it and tried to hook it up to her computer, which is Windows Vista. (Mine is Windows XP) I did not know she was going to hook it up to her computer, so I'm not sure what could have happened. Is there any like between hooking an ipod up to Windows Vista and then trying to hook it up to Windows XP?
I've seen that a lot of other people have had this problem too, but I haven't found any solutions yet. I've tried everything in suport--The 5 R's, Changing to disk mode, chicking my USB drives, ect. I realy would rather not take it to an ipod store, because it costs money.
    Any solutions?

I would be interested in any responses to this problem. We have 2 1st generation nanos and last week both of them stopped being recognized by our computer. We also have 2 2nd generation nanos and a 3rd generation nano. The 2nd and 3rd generation nanos are working fine but both of the 1st generation are having the same issue as RachelRocketship's. We have tried the same solutions that she has with no luck.

  • Computer cannot read iPod

When I plug the iPod into the computer, it continues as normal to upload the iPod.
However, after a couple of seconds of trying, my computer comes up with a message saying that the iPod update attempt has failed, and that it cannot read or send to the iPod.
I was under council to reset my iPod, as it still showed up on the screen. It erased the iPod as directed, and there is nothing left on the iPod.
When I go into playlists, all of my playlists are there, but no music. Same with the Podcasts.
Now, I have an iPod with no music, and no way to get music on to it.
    HELP?!?!?!?

  • HT4235 In trying to sync I get the message cannot find ipod!  Any clues how to solve this?

I am tyring to sync my ipod but i am getting the message -  Idpod cannot be synced becasue it  cannot be found - I did the diagontics test and all is ok.  Any clues?

The -50 error is documented in this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    Here is a synopsis:
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

  • Transferred my iTunes to a new computer cannot find music files

Recently I got a new PC laptop. I backed up my iTunes from my old laptop to an external hard drive and transferred them to the new computer. Although the song information appears in my iTunes window, when I try to play them I get a message that the file cannot be found and would I like help locating it.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Something whet wrong with your migration process, that much is clear.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. It may be possible to simply slide the media folders into the location that iTunes expects them to be.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • ITunes on new computer cannot find my songs

I recently purchased a new Vista laptop and now want to enjoy my music via iTunes on it. I had previously made a backup of my whole itunes folder on an exHD. On my old computer, the music in my library is found here and there, it is not all found in the iTunes music folder, since it came from various sources.
After installing iTunes on my new laptop, I replaced the whole iTunes folder by the one I had backed-up and when launching iTunes, it only finds the songs that are in the iTunes music folder. My playlists are all there with the song counts and album covers, etc. but the songs that arent in the iTunes folder have all an exclamation point besides the title. I've tried consolidating my library but it did not work, it copied some of the music but most of it still have the ! mark.
What can be done so that it can find my music by itself...? Or am I doomed to replace the unfound songs one by one?
    thanks!

  • My computer cannot find iTunes folder !!

I have an older laptop with 40G memory, so I store my iTunes on an external hard drive (H Drive).
I went to open my iTunes this morning and it says: "The folder iTunes cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location of this folder is inside the 'My Music' folder".
I can find the My Music folder in the H Drive. When I opened it, all the individual (3,000 +) song title icons appear; but when i click on one, I get the same error message.
One of the suggestions on the Support site is to re-install the iTunes software. I'm afraid that if I do, I will erase all my library for good. I want to make sure they won't disappear forever before re-installing.
    PLEASE help !!!
