Computer cannot read iPod

When I plug the iPod into the computer, it continues as normal to upload the iPod.
However, after a couple of seconds of trying, my computer comes up with a message saying that the iPod update attempt has failed, and that it cannot read or send to the iPod.
I was under council to reset my iPod, as it still showed up on the screen. It erased the iPod as directed, and there is nothing left on the iPod.
When I go into playlists, all of my playlists are there, but no music. Same with the Podcasts.
Now, I have an iPod with no music, and no way to get music on to it.
HELP?!?!?!?

Try here.

  • Cannot read ipod

I have a 3rd Generation 20gb iPod and have had small problems with updating my ipod, but nothing big. Usually just restored it and just hooked it up and iTunes read it.
Now, I need to update my ipod again. I downloaded the latest version for the iPod. When it tells me to plug in my iPod, I do but just wait. Nothing happens. I've tried restarting my iPod, computer, and switching USB ports but still cannot read it.
Anything I can do to try and fix this? Any help is appreciated.

    Hello,
Is your iPod displaying "Do Not Disconnect", "Charging", or what?
Also, have you tried putting your iPod into disk mode, then connecting it to your computer again?
    1) Disconnect your iPod.
    2) Reset it (hold "menu" + "select" (center) buttons together for 7 seconds until Apple logo appears).
    3) Then put it into disk mode: as soon as the Apple logo appears, release the buttons, then start pressing the "select" + "play/pause" buttons for 3 seconds until the "Disk Mode" screen appears.
    4) Connect your iPod to your computer again. Does it work now?
Also, does your iPod show up in "My Computer"? If so...
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
    If not...
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes
    I hope this helps!

  • Computer cannot find ipod!

    Hello,
I purchased a 1gb ipod shuffle about 6 months ago, and have had no problems with it until recently. For the past week I have been unable to edit the songs in iTunes or reset it with the ipod updater. I have tried uninstalling the USB massive storage device in the drivers, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and I have updated to the most recent ipod updater. One weird thing I've noticed is that when I plug in my ipod or open the updater, this autoplay loading screen comes up for a few minutes. The only place where I can see that my computer recognizes the ipod is in My Computer, where the drives are listed. It comes up as Removable Disk (H:)
Thanks for any help you can give me.

    ~fixed it.
    steps taken:
Opened up My Computer, right clicked on my ipod H:\ drive, and went to format. Restarted my computer, and everything works fine again

  • "USB Device not recognized" -- Computer cannot recognize ipod.

My computer (HP laptop) just, out of nowhere, stoped recognizing my ipod.
The message that comes up is "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows cannot recognize it." It comes up as an "Unknown device" instead of a USB Mass Starage Device or an ipod.
The only reason this problem may have occored is because my friend borrowed it and tried to hook it up to her computer, which is Windows Vista. (Mine is Windows XP) I did not know she was going to hook it up to her computer, so I'm not sure what could have happened. Is there any like between hooking an ipod up to Windows Vista and then trying to hook it up to Windows XP?
I've seen that a lot of other people have had this problem too, but I haven't found any solutions yet. I've tried everything in suport--The 5 R's, Changing to disk mode, chicking my USB drives, ect. I realy would rather not take it to an ipod store, because it costs money.
    Any solutions?

I would be interested in any responses to this problem. We have 2 1st generation nanos and last week both of them stopped being recognized by our computer. We also have 2 2nd generation nanos and a 3rd generation nano. The 2nd and 3rd generation nanos are working fine but both of the 1st generation are having the same issue as RachelRocketship's. We have tried the same solutions that she has with no luck.

  • Computer not reading ipod at all

i bought my nano like a month ago... i connected my nano to the computer and all the songs went on it... a week later though i got a message saying i needed to upgrade so i did and in the middle of the upgrading process it froze and all my songs were deleted from the ipod now when i try to connect it itunes doesn't read it and when i try to open 'my computer' it freezes. i've tried resetting the nano and i even tried using another computer but the same thing happens can anybody help?

Disconnect the iPod and close the iPod updater and iTunes. then try again. If it doesn't work, then close both again, and push CtrlAltDel and end the iTunesHelper.exe and iPodservice.exe processes. I'm sure you did this first, but just doublecheck no file are running off the iPod.

  • Computer wont read iPod at all

I have a 1st generation 20gb iPod and I can't get any type of feedback. When I plug it in to my computer I get a battery with a yield sign. If i try to reset it by holding the menu and select button, the screen flickers for a second and goes back to the battery sign. I can't charge it either. I have tried my outlet charger, an iHome and my computer, the same battery sign shows up. I can't think of anything else to try and fix it. Is it completely worthless?

I had the same problem when I bought my Touch 2 months ago. Here is fix I used:
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090209182107AAR4juY
First (MAKE SURE YOUR IPOD ISNT CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER, AND ITUNES IS RUNNING!!) you have to reset it by holding your home and power button. Make sure you slide it to power off. Then as it powers on, hold the home button and connect your ipod to the computer at the same time. (DO NOT LET IT GO FOR ANY REASON) as iTunes loads it, it'll say that your iPod is going into recovery mode. Click ok, and restore it.
It worked for me. Hope it helps...

  • Songs on iPod gone, iTunes "cannot read" iPod...help!

All the songs on my iPod have disappeared though they're still present on iTunes and now the computer won't read my iPod. It also says 2.1 GB is "used" on my iPod though there is nothing on it. I just bought it a week ago and it had been working fine until all the sudden everything was gone. Anyone have any ideas about what's going on? Thanks!

First of all check this article out: iPod missing in My Computer and in iTunes If you can get the computer to recognise the iPod try restoring it, this will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. A fresh installation of the software could sort things out.: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings

  • Computer cannot read AirPort Extreme CD

I just bought an AirPort Extreme 802.11n router. I set it up just fine with the included CD on my main PC, which the router is connected to.
Unfortunately, my MacBook Pro will not read the included CD (not a cleanliness/scratch issue since the PC reads it perfectly). What is problematic is that the software to upgrade my AirPort wireless card to use the 802.11n standard is supposed to be on that disk--so I'm stuck with 802.11g (which my Network Utility confirms).
    So, 2 part question:
    1) How can I get my wireless card to upgrade to 802.11n?
    2) Is there any other software on the disk that would be helpful, aside from the aforementioned (n) upgrader, that I should get access to?

Not sure if you got this resolved or not, I had a similar problem. I would get an error message when I would try to install the Software that came with the Airport Extreme. The problem I found was that my computer already had Bonjour installed. So my guess is that your Mac computer already has this software installed. When you initially start setup you can diable installation of Bonjour. You did mention it won't read your disk, so this may not be your problem but wanted to mention it.
