Computer clock changed to year 2001 after motherboard replacement

My T440S was having CPU whine problems, and it was sent to the Lenovo Service Center for repair. They replaced the motherboard for me. After the machine came back, I realized that the system date/computer clock shows the year to be 2001!
Of course, changing it to the current date and year is not a big deal.
I wonder however, why this happened. Does it mean that the replacement motherboard they put in my T440S was made in 2001? If yes, is it acceptable policy to install a 13-year old motherboard in T440S?
Thanks

Hi,
That's probably just the default date for an uninitialized clock chip.  The tech didn't bother to set the clock after installing the board and plugging in the CMOS battery.
It's pretty unlikely that lenovo built a motherboard 13 years ago for CPU, RAM, and chipset - among other things - that wouldn't be developed until many years later...

  • DV9700 Volume Controls not working after motherboard replacement

I have a HP Pavilion DV9702ea, which I've had for just over two years now. It worked absolutely fine for me in every way since I got it until about one month ago when I installed some software that required me to restart Windows. The laptop shutdown but did not restart. I tried to switch it back on but it would not work - when I pressed the power button the power light would blink for perhaps half a second but that was it. After some internet searching I ascertained that this is a symptom of a common problem with these laptops and that it suggested that the GPU had failed, which meant I needed a new laptop.
So I ordered a new laptop using the model number shown on the sticker near the RAM ports. It arrived and I installed it. Now my laptop is fully working again - all except for the volume controls. On the control panel above the keyboard, all of the QuickPlay keys (Q, DVD, previous, Play/Pause, next and stop) are illuminated but the volume control keys (mute, - and +) are not. I have Windows Vista installed with the correct audio driver and it does not respond to me pressing these keys, so it's not just that they're not lit up, they're not working at all.
I've tried everything that I can think of to fix this - as far as I'm concerned it should not be a software issue, because these keys are supposed to be illuminated from power-on, so even without a hard drive or an operating system installed these keys should be lit up. Nevertheless I've tried making sure all the audio, QuickPlay, QuickLaunch and QuickTouch drivers are up to date and have tried alternate drivers for all of them. I've checked the cable leading from the motherboard to the controls - it appears to be intact, but I even ordered a replacement just in case and that has made no difference. I've extensively Googled the problem and the most promising fix that I could find (that is repeated on these forums several times) was to power off the laptop, remove the mains adapter and battery, hold the power button down for 30 seconds to discharge any static and then power on again. I've tried that a few times and it has not fixed the problem in my case.
So I'm at a loss now. My last resort will be to return the motherboard for a replacement, but that will obviously be a lot of hassle for me as I'll have to strip down the laptop to remove it and I'll be without a working laptop for a day or so. And then, if it's not a motherboard fault, I'll have put a lot of effort into not getting anywhere. So is there anything else I should try?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have this issue before, in my case, its ribbon cable issue. dv9000 have two ribbon cables the one that have broken is the long one, (connect mobo to switch panel). However there is other possibility that the switch panel also broken.
Try buying the ribbon cable first, it is much cheaper compared to switch panel.

  • Problems with PXI after motherboard replacement

    Hello,
    My PXI system consists
of PXI-1045, PXI-8360 and five NI
    PXI intruments (5152, 4065, 6552, 2532, 5404). I was working with this
system without problems for a long time. However, the motherboard of my
PC had a specific problem with the ethernet connenction and I decided to
replace the motherboard with a new one (same model). After the
replacement (the pc finally was fully functional), I tried to power on
the PXI chassis, but  I couldn't "see" any module in PXI chassism, using
the MAX. I must tell thatI didn't change the hard disk of the
pc, or anything else just the motherboard. After some experiments, I
finally fix the probrem with the following solution: First I unplugged
all the modules from PXI chassis. After that, I plugged one module and I
reboot the pc. After that I plugged the second one module and I reboot
    the pc. And so on...
    This was the only solution
that I found in order to indentify all the modules of the PXI chassis.
My question is why happend this
thing? Where are the PXI modules' adresses stored? Also, is the
procedure I used correct, or I had to do something else in order to make
    the system work?

    Hello,
Im glad that your system is up and running, ideally that behavior should not have occured. For future troubleshooting, also check Windows Device Manager to see if your devices show up if MAX does not detect them (Windows may have initially failed to detect the hardware). In a PXI system, the pxisys.ini file provides mappings from PCI logical addresses (PCI bus, device, and function numbers) to corresponding PXI slot numbers, allowing device driver software to identify the slot of a PXI module. There is a unique pxisys.ini file for every combination of PXI chassis and controller. See the link provided below for additional information regarding how to configure PXI systems in MAX.

  • TOSHIBA SATELLITE A105 -S4284 WHAT NEXT AFTER MOTHERBOARD REPLACEMENT

Ok so I am having some troubles
The motherboard was fried and a new one has been installed.
When I power the unit on it remains a black screen runs for 40-60 seconds and shuts down.
It will not load cd's and I think I am missing something and not understanding something
I tried to run a new windows xp program and you can hear the disk running but the screen remains black and runs the same as above for 40-60 seconds and shuts down
More or less once a motherboard is replaced upon start up what should would see or expect?
Is what I seeing the normal process?

In safe mode it is not possible to standby. That is disabled. Tried to make it possible with Toshiba's power control service, but it is not available.
In a new account, the BSOD still occurs. I created a new account, logged out of my account, and went to the new one. Tried standby. It came out of standby for a second and then had the blue screen of death.
In checking the event manager, I seen errors shortly before crashes sometimes that involve the CD.
So I went to Toshiba.com and downloaded the DVD RAM driver and ran it, reinstalling the driver, and then restarted.  I also saw that there was C-Dilla driver in my drivers. I uninstalled the SafeCast program that I think is associated with C-Dilla, moved the C-Dilla driver out of the drivers to a distant folder, unchecked C-Dilla in MSCONFIG so it won't load (it was still there after removing SafeCast), and then reinstarted. So with a new DVD Ram driver and neutering, I hope, of C-Dilla, I tried things again and the system appeared to be crash free - better than it had been. But then a crash occurred - BSOD - and upon restart, the CD locked up, and crashed again.
After restarting, there was a new dialog that popped up after Windows launched indicating that there had been an error with SONIC DLA. Before the crash, there was an event n the event viewer:
My last error comes from the Plug and Play Manager:
The device 'MAT**bleep**A DVD-RAM UJ-841S' (IDE\CdRomMAT**bleep**A_DVD-RAM_UJ-841S________________1.60____\5&226f6cf2&0&0.0.0) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.
Hmmm. So things are still vulnerable. Any ideas? Buy new CD drive? Or new computer?

after that EM started, but when go to 'Performance' or any other tab in browser.
its asks for login and shows 'oldcomputername:orcl:1521' in connection string.

Search every file under $ORACLE_BASE for the old name.
Assuming *NIX use find and grep.
Why do people rename servers? A name is a name is a name. All it ever does is cause problems.

    Hello there dinadinadina,
It sounds like you have modified the password settings for your Gmail account after changing the password. Thats where I would have started too. Next I would restart the device and test it one more time, and then remove and add the account again in Settings:
Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

  • In iTunes, why does music which has been ripped from a best-of CD continue to show the year of the CD release even after I change the year to the year of the song release in playlists?

I often rip music from CDs of artists that released songs in the '60s and '70s. When I rip the music, in iTunes it shows the year of the CD release, usually something in the '90s or 2000s. I change the year in 'Get Info' to the correct year, and it changes it fine. However, after a while, it will show the old year again, the year of the CD. This is a problem because I like to arrange playlists based on song years, and this messes with that.
Tell me: is there a way to permanently fix the reverting year problem? Also, when I spot a song that this has happened to, when I click on 'Get Info', the correct ear is still in there, and when I hit 'OK' it changes back. This is really frustrating...

In some cases the original iTunes Store metadata seems to be given preference over personal changes. If you are seeing this then
Go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Share details about your library with Apple
On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music
Close and reopen iTunes and/or reset the device and you should see your version of the metadata for each track rather than the original store data. If not it should reset as you play through content, or you can use my script UpdateTagInfo to force iTunes to read the current data from the tags.

This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Computer clock resets to 1969. PRAM battery probably not the issue.

I have a PowerMac G4 mirrored doors computer running Tiger 10.4.11 that occasionally starts up with that error message saying: "Your computer's clock is set to a date before March 24th, 2001. This may cause some applications to behave erratically."
I know all about resetting the PRAM, resetting the NVRAM, and replacing a weak, or expired battery. I've read the relevant posts on the subject, in which well-intentioned guides say that the problem is "usually" or "generally" related to the PRAM battery. Well, I wish it could be that simple, because I have already had a new battery installed, and the problem continues. It is intermittent; it's been occurring for about six months now; and it persists.
I seek technical assistance and successful, problem-solving suggestions that go beyond merely suggesting that I zap the PRAM or replace the battery.
If there are potential SOFTWARE problems, please direct me to those potentially damaged files. None of the disk utilities that I have used—including Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro, OnyX, Cocktail, or Drive Genius— find anything wrong with my hard drive or the files on it. No corrupted resources are reported. Additionally, Intego's Virus Barrier finds no infected files either.
However, a FileBuddy search of files modified before 3/25/2001 finds several dozen files with improbable dates of 12/31/1969 or 1/1/1970. Fewer files dated 12/31/1969 occur after I go to the Date/Time preferences pane and reset the clock to the current date/time and then restart my computer, especially in regards to system-related files. Nonetheless, several dozen files with a 12/31/1969 still remain, even after the date/time reset and the system restart.
I do not know if any of those pre-historic files are playing a role in this chronic problem, so I offer that information for the technically more astute to ponder upon and factor in to any solutions which might be offered. I have read posts where someone might suggest a re-install of Tiger, but the original poster almost always reports that re-installing Tiger did not eliminate problem, so I would prefer suggestions that rely on a scalpel rather than a sledge hammer.
If someone suspects that there may be hardware problem, I would like to hear theories along that line, too, although I am unlikely to consider gutting the hardware items just to retain the attractive computer case. Even though I do have other computers (an iMac G5 and a MacBook Pro), the PowerMac G4 is my preferred workhorse, and it is the only one configured to run Final Cut Pro (version 4.5; I can't afford to upgrade now), so I want to keep it functional without a major investment into an older machine.
When the computer clock problem first reared its irritating head several months ago, it was accompanied with kernel crashes that turned out to be related to the nVidia video card. I brought the machine in to a local shop, because it was refusing to power on. They installed a new battery to replace the original, probably weak original battery, and they replaced the probably defective nVidia video card with a used nVidia card I found on eBay. The shop also claimed that I needed to replace the motherboard and the power supply to ensure that the G4 would power on and that it would present a desktop without the warning message about the computer clock being set to 12/31/1969.
I decided to reject their assessment, since the whole repair job would have amounted to about $1,100. It seemed like an excessive solution. Since taking the G4 back about three months ago with only the new battery and the replacement video card installed, the computer has powered on every single time without fail, which, to my non-technician mind, would appear to indicate that the power supply is OK. However, I do still get an occasional warning about the computer clock being set to a date before March 24th, 2001.
I do not have the technical expertise or repair knowledge to know if the problem is hardware-related, software-related, power supply-related, or a complex interaction between all of them. If someone can suggest a permanent fix to eliminate the computer clock error problem WITHOUT requiring me to make a major investment in repairing or replacing hardware components, that would be ideal. On the other hand, if this clock problem is merely is an irritant, but not a sign of something more serious or expensive, then I am willing to live with it and get around the problem by going through the steps of resetting the clock when required and then restarting the computer with a correctly set clock.
My main goal, of course, is to have a reliable, stable computer. If it costs too much to eliminate the computer clock irritation on a permanent basis, then I am willing to live with the problem, as long as its presence does not disrupt my work flow. In that case, I would appreciate it if someone could explain what might be going on, so that I know what to expect and what to do about it.
I hope this is sufficient information with which to make a diagnosis and recommendation. If not, ask for more. Thanks.

    Short answer =
    5) Upon reboot after re-connection and re-start, the Date & Time shows...
    a) in the Date & Time pane: 12/31/1969 at 7:00 PM, and counting
    b) in the Finder's menu bar: 7:00 PM, and counting
What do the results of this test tell you? Is this a software or a hardware problem?
    ======================================================================
    Long answer =
Thanks, BDAqua, for offering your help. I'm not exactly new to these forums, but somehow my previous contributions have all been wiped out, so I've restarted under a new account name.
I've had my G4 MDD for five years, and it's always been quite stable for me, so I'm not quite sure that this model is "cantankerous." I do find the computer clock error message irritating, though, so it would be nice to know the source of the problem and its permanent solution.
Since my original posting, I elected not to Shut Down the G4 to see what would happen. It functioned just fine since then, allowing me to create some short Final Cut Pro movies as Christmas presents to family members. With one exception, all other applications also functioned without problems. The only problem I'm encountering has to do with H-P Photosmart Studio, an application bundled with the HP All-in-one model C7280. It will not settle down to work, forcing me to Force Quit it every time. Since that app works fine on my iMac G5, I decided to trouble-shoot it by reinstalling the HP software, a process that requires me to Shut Down. (If possible, I want to see if the problem is with the HP software, or with Tiger on my G4.)
However, before I can get even get to trouble-shooting the HP Photosmart, the G4 gives me that computer clock error upon re-boot. In the past, the Date & Time error message has appeared upon a cold reboot, no matter whether I had reset the Date & Time in the preference pane via the Network clock or manually. However, I never conducted my tests in conjunction with disconnecting the A/C power cable. So, I decided to try the the test you suggested. Here are my observations and the results of the test.
    1) Upon Shut Down, cool down, and restart, I get the computer clock error message mentioned at the beginning of my original post, telling me that my clock is set to a earlier date.
    2) When I open the Date & Time preferences pane, however, the date and time shown there (as well as on the Finder's menu bar) is current.
    3) The Network setting was ON, so, to comply with this test, I unchecked the "Set date & time automatically" box. I do not need to reset date and time manually, because, as I mentioned they ARE set correctly, even though the message I got upon restart said that they are not. (If memory serves me correctly, though, the Date & Time panel would actually show 12/31/69 as the computer clock's read-out, so this discrepancy is somehow connected to this problem. )
    4) I shut down the G4 for 2 hours, and I disconnected all cables and plugs to it, including A/C power.
    5) Upon reboot after re-connection and re-start, the Date & Time shows...
    a) in the Date & Time pane: 12/31/1969 at 7:00 PM, and counting
    b) in the Finder's menu bar: 7:00 PM, and counting.
    6) I take screen captures of the error message and the menu bar: both .PNG files are time-stamped as of 12/31/1969 at around 7:01 PM.
    7) I will now reset the clock to the current Date and Time by turning the Network time feature back on, so I can get on with my work while the trouble-shooting process continues.
What do the results of this test tell you? Is this a software or a hardware problem?
If it's a software problem, then should I do I clean install of Tiger? If I do that, is there any evidence that a clean install will do any good to eradicate the problem?
On the other hand, if this is a hardware issue, is it contained to merely being an irritant that I can fix merely by adjusting the Date & Time whenever the problem occurs (which I can live with, as long as the system is stable after that fix), or is this error message regarding a sign of something more ominous failing on the motherboard?

I have not been able to open up Lightroom on my computer for over a year now. Whenever I double click on it, this comes up - can anyone help? Problem signature:   Problem Event Name:APPCRASH   Application Name:lightroom.exe   Application Version:3.4.1.10

First thing to try is the latest version of Lightroom (currently 5.6). If it don't crash, then problem solved - upgrade.
If Lr5 won't run on your machine, then Lr4 instead.
If both Lr5 and Lr4 crash on your machine, then at least you know it's a not a Lightroom version problem but something wonked in your system.
If you can't figure out how to resolve the crash on the system you have, then it's time for a new system (or try another converter/editor app).
PS - A few things to try:
    * After re-installing new version, if that doesn't fix it, then get rid of all Lightroom-related data files (rename them so they can be restored), in case problem is in Lr data file.
    * Remove all non-essential hardware in case problem is hardware/driver.
    * Startup up machine with minimal software services.
    * If still no go, consider updating driver software, including mainboard drivers and/or bios firmware if need be.
    * Of course run all the system hardware and software diagnostics you can - problem could be failing disk or ram..
    * Check system event logs for any clues.
If you don't know how to do some of these things - ask.
Do not say "you've tried everything" unless you want a lecture - there is most definitely something you haven't tried. It's like when you can't find your car keys - you haven't looked everywhere -  there is somewhere you haven't looked!
PS - Has Lightroom EVER worked on your machine? what's changed since then..
    Good luck,
    Rob
