Computer completely crashing after  plugging in any ipod except touch

For a while now, every time I plug in any ipod, any generation excluding touch/iphone, a gray window will popup saying I have to reboot the computer.
I figured out that the computer isn't responding well to the hard-drive function of the iPods if it helps.
I'm running 10.5.6 on a 24" iMac intel

HI,
*" popup saying I have to reboot the computer."*
Did you restart your Mac to see if it made a difference?
That gray popup dialog is referred to as a, 'kernel panic"...

  • Computer is crashing (freeze) when connecting my iPod Nano

    Hello,
my computer is crashing (freeze) when connecting my iPod Nano. I have a Pentium IV with windows XP Pro. Can anybody help me please.

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

  • PC completely crashed after installing latest iTunes update-coincidence?

I downloaded and installed the latest iTunes upgrade yesterday. After doing so it asked me to restart my PC which I did. However, my PC would not then start, I get a black screen with the message:- "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt - \windows\system32\config\system "
I have tried rebooting from the "last known good configuration" in "safe mode" and have also tried restoring the system with the cdrom that came with the PC.
Is this problem connected to the iTunes download or is it just a coincidence that my PC has crashed immediately after this?? It seems very starnge as I have never had any problems like this before. I am now using my work laptop to post this message as my home PC seems to be completely kaput.
Has anyone any advice or has anyone suffered the same problem?

This error is often due to a corrupted registry. I am afraid I can not help you myself, but this Miscrosoft article seems to cover it:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
If you google: missing corrupt \windows\system32\config\system
you will find quite a few other hits about the problem.
PS I noticed that the Microsoft method does not aply if you have an OEM installed Windows:
+Warning Do not use the procedure that is described in this article if your computer has an OEM-installed operating system. The system hive on OEM installations creates passwords and user accounts that did not exist previously. If you use the procedure that is described in this article, you may not be able to log back into the recovery console to restore the original registry hives.+

  • Nokia 5800 completely crashed after a failed softw...

Whilst carrying out a software update my computer lost connection with the internet, this turned my phone off, after trying to continue with the update which was un-successful I unplugged my phone from the computer, this resulted in my phone completely crashing? Now when I switch it on it just vibrates for about 20 seconds with nothing on the screen! After it has finished vibrating it is then completely shut down again.  I have tried some methods of starting up but to no avail as I'm limited as to what I can do with it as it is touch screen!
Any advice & help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers

  • I phone 4 completely crashed after network settings reset?

    hello
i recently experienced difficulty in connecting to wifi on my iphone 4, i tryed a new wifi receiver in the phone but it still did not work. so i tried
to reset the network settings on the phone, and ever since i have done that the phone just crashes every 2/3 minutes and it wont charge....but says it is charging. i tried to do a hardware reset and also tried rebooting it through itunes, but due to it crashing it wouldnt work properly. the battery has now gone dead and the phone wont even turn on.....although when i plug the charger in the screen lights up and i see the apple icon.. but then nothing happens?? im completly confussed, does anyone have any ideas whats wrong with it????

It doesn't matter how competent you are or how many screens you've replaced.
There are NO legitimate sources for iPhone parts. Apple doesn't sell iPhone parts. The only possible sources are counterfeit parts, stolen parts, salvaged parts, or just plain cheap knockoffs.
Your forfeited your ability to get service or support from Apple the minute you opened the phone.
Obviously, something is broken. Find a competent 3rd party repair shop, ask your question someplace like ifixit.com, or buy a new phone.
You can't get advice here on how to fix it.

  • Windows Explorer crashes when plugging or unplugging ipod touch

Seems something is buggy with Itunes 7 or the Ipod Touch itself. This happens to me on 2 different computers, one Dell and one HP so I doubt seriously if it is the computers themselves. All of my drivers on both systems are up to date.
When I plug in the IPOD it will work and sync, however when I unplug it I get a windows explorer crash each time. Needless to say this is irritating as heck.
    Anyone else having this problem?
    thanks
    Redy4it

I have the same problem, even when i use the eject button. I hate vista but on my pc i have no choice but to run it. Never had any problems on my Macs. i also get a strange error on work pc running XP. It says at first that it doesn't recognize the device running in compatibility mode but then it switches over and works fine. I tend to blame it on Microsoft crap, maybe they are updating their OSes to mess with Apple products.

  • My iPhone 3 crashes after charging. Any suggestions?

My iPhone crashes after a few minutes of use after I unhook it from my computer. I am new to this used iPhone and am trying to find help. Thank you!

Try a reset.  Press and hold the On/Off and Home buttons simultaneously until you see the Apple logo, then release.  This may take up to 10 seconds.  This is the equivalent of a PC re-boot and you will not lose any data.

  • Computer completely crashes when ipod plugged in

    Hi,
I have been dealing with this for about 4 months now. I use a firewire port to connect my iPod, but I also have a USB wireless adapter for my internet. The problem arises when both are active. iTunes will open, but then crashes about 30 seconds after my iPod is recognized. The entire computer freezes and I have to turn off and restart without one or the other for it to work. Any help would be great!

I bought a USB 2 PCMCIA Card and that works (ADAPTEC)

  • Computer reboots shortly after connecting cable to ipod

Just recent got new fifth gen ipod 30 and installed itunes, set up library and playlists. Now ready to connect cable to my USB 2.0 and within 30 seconds after connecting, BAM my computer reboots itself. I later get a signiture message 'BCCODE:19'(and more info). The ipod display prior to reboot indicates "do not disconnect" however, it freezes after the reboot. HELP!! Ipod has downloaded some songs but I need help troubleshooting possible hardware or software conflicts to make any headway. What are my options to remedy this problem forever? Thank you.

    Hi Sherif
It's probably worth trying a couple of standard trouble shooting techniques:
    - Reset the PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    - Reset the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Resetting the SMC often fixes battery/power supply issues; resetting the PRAM probably won't make any difference but it only takes a few seconds and is quite harmless.

  • My computer is crashed after 3 hours, when am running an Executable file from LabView 6.0.2

My VI is using DAQ6025e and GPIB cards, it is countiniusly writing data to files and talking with 2 GPIB instruments and one Serial instrument. Sudenly after 3 hours of perfect working it is crash my computer.
Does any body know why ??? Help? S.O.S?

Some questions to help us troubleshoot:
1)How crashed is your computer when it crashes?
Blue Screen Of Death crashed? If you don't know about BSOD then that
is when your computer presents a blue screen (white in XP) and tells
you that the system is halted, gives you a register dump and the
memory address where it stopped (all of which is useless unless you
are an assembly language wizard) and then you have to reboot the
    machine.
Application error that kills LabVIEW.exe? Usually a pop-up MSGBOX
style dialog box will appear with a such and such error occurred in
LabVIEW.exe or another application and an OK button.
VI Slows to a crawl w/hourglass in the app window? Program doesn't
stop executing, it just stops responding to user inputs.
LabVIEW error cluster error that causes the VI to quit?
    2) What O/S are you running? Win 3.1, Win 95, Win 98, Win NT 3.1, Win
NT 3.5, Win NT 4.0, Win2000, WinME, WinXPHome, Win XPPro?, Linux?, Mac
    O/S?
In the Microsoft family, WinNT and Win2000 are by far the most stable
and reliable of the various versions of Windows with Win95 and Win98
having a lot of problems running for long periods of time. Make sure
that you get WinNT 4.0 updated to service pack 6 if you are still
using 4.0 but haven't updated the service pack level yet. There were
quite a number of problems with it when it first came out that have
    since been cured.
    3) Have you run the LabVIEW VI profiler yet? This will point out
memory leaks that are due to dynamically built arrays using shift
registers etc. or appending to strings, or improper IMAQ management,
    etc.
    4) Have you brought up the task manager and looked at the memory
allocated for LabVIEW.exe and for the whole system as well? Is it
growing? Sometimes there can be memory leaks that don't show in the
profiler that will show in the task manager when you look. These can
be due to bugs in LabVIEW itself or some driver for some hardware you
    are using, etc.
If you are not running NT or a later derivative, then you won't have
task manager available but you can get diagnostic tools that are very
similar to task manager from off the web.
    5) How much memory do you have in your PC? How fast is your PC? What
does the CPU % usage look like under task manager when you first start
your app? If it is running >40% CPU usage for any significant amount
of time at the start then perhaps your PC is overloaded with work and
you need a faster PC or your code needs redesigning. I like data
acquisition systems to operate <25% generally speaking. This number
seems to improve the reliability of the code that is running on them.
    6) How much H/D space is available? You say you are writing data to
files. Your h/d space isn't running out is it?
    7) Is it possible to run one instrument at a time for several hours to
see if it is a particular instrument that is causing the crash? Make
sure that your GPIB cards are properly configured so that they don't
share resources with any other devices(IRQ, DMA, memory addresses,
etc.) It may be possible that they behave fine most of the time even
with shared resources but if they ever try to send a command
simultaneously and they share resources, they could "collide" and
crash your PC. You can check all this out in the control panel and/or
    MAX.
    8) Is it possible that your serial port is getting hung up after
running a long period of time? Serial port UARTS are notoriously
finicky especially over longer line lengths and higher data rates. It
could be that your serial instrument is locking up your app or your PC
serial port is locking up your app and causing the crash. Can you put
a serial port analyzer in between your serial instrument and your PC
to see what's going on when it crashes?
    9) Are you trying to read or write to the serial port in more than one
thread or while loop or dynamically launched vi? If you are you MUST
protect the serial port access with a semaphore or a VISA resource
lock. You CANNOT use a boolean global to protect access. Regular
globals aren't atomic and you can have race conditions that result in
unintended serial port collisions between differen threads. I have
seen this lock up multi-threaded serial programs before to the point
    of requiring rebooting.
This problem can be especially frustrating if you haven't done
multi-threaded before. The port won't necessarily lock up right away
or at the same time every time. You MUST make sure that serial port
access is limited to ONLY ONE execution thread at a time.
    10) Is there another application or service running in the background
with your application that may be trying to access the serial port or
GPIB cards when you aren't expecting it? This could cause a collision
that could crash your system as well.

Hello, i have some new iphones from family friends im trying to plug in. Itunes opens fine without any unrecognized devices plugged in, once an unrecognized iphone is plugged in it crashes upon trying to open iphone data. All the unrecognized iphones are restored and left at the begginning setup process. It will crash with an iphone 4, iphone 4s and iphone 5s.

    Hello there, sothavok.
