Computer crash itunes problems

My computer crashed and all the memory and other stuff got deleted off my computer including itunes. i re-downloaded itunes and it tried to symc my ipod but it wouldnt back up and then it said that if i synced my music it would be deleted off my ipod and the music in the itunes library would be put on my ipod. I dont know my my computer crash has anything to do with it but i want to sync my ipod without deleting my music and apps. please help me. i setup i tunes all the way and all the setups and logged onto my acc.

If your iPod is set to sync automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
If at any point you get a message that your iPod is linked to another library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
Purchased applications can be downloaded over again, see this article for details: How to redownload purchased applications from the App Store
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer data (such as playcounts and ratings), movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.
A selection of iPod/iPhone to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • HELP!!! Computer Crashes, iTunes Problem...

My hard drive on my computer had failed and everything on it was lost, including my library for iTunes. I had to have the hard drive replaced. The problem I am having is I want to add my songs from my iPod into the new iTunes library. When I connect my iPod to my computer, I get a pop up screen that wants me to either erase all of the songs on my iPod and update it with the new library, or to transfer only purchases to the new library. Is there any way that I can put my songs from my iPod onto my new hard drive?

    piff and Sara,
Forgive my intrusion, but it seems that you don't understand the purpose of the Library piff. The Library is simply a master list of every song, podcast, internet stream, video and whatever else you have added to iTunes. If you delete something from the Library, it's deleted everywhere.
If you need to view your Library in a way that better suits you, click on one of the column titles such as name, album or artist to sort the order in which your stuff is displayed. If you control-click on those titles, you can add or subtract which columns you want to see.
If that still doesn't help you, click on the browse button in the top right corner to allow you to view everything by an individual genre, artist and/or album.
Along with Sara's previous suggestions, might I also suggest that you create a smart playlist that includes only recently added items and which are removed from that playlist once they are in another playlist. This will help you differentiate between the stuff you've recently added and already relabeled and the stuff you still need to get to.
    Hope this helps too,

  • After our computer crashed, itunes no longer recoginizes our ipods. How can I fix this problem?

After our computer crashed, itunes no longer recoginizes our ipods. How can I fix this problem?

Okay, update on my previous message:
I have replaced my iTunes-folder with a back-up version of the old one. Luckily this turned my podcasts back to normal and replaced the new 'library' with the old one.
This also solved the problem of having to erase your iPod or iPhone, which is no longer necessary.
    So my solution is:
    1. back-up your iTunes folder (located at 'User/Music/iTunes/')
    2. remove iTunes 9.0.3 completely (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224)
    3. drag the iTunes folder back to the Music folder
    4. Re-install iTunes 9.0.3.
    It worked for me.

  • Webcam Live Pro! Computer crashing driver problem

I have had the Webcam Live Pro! for a few months running on a Windows XP Home Emachines with a .8 ghz AMD processor. The driver that comes with the CD out of the box has a conflict that causes the entire computer to shut down and reboot (or sometimes to freeze) when using third-party software, such as an instant messenger. I originally called the Creative Techs about this, and they told me that there was no problem with the driver. But a month later, a new driver was posted on their web site that claimed to fix this exact problem. I uninstalled the old driver and installed the new driver. But the problem came back even with the new driver. The only handle I can get on it is that the problem tends to re-appear after using the camera for a number of days. That is, the shutdown/freeze problem goes away when I uninstall the driver and then re-install the driver. But then a few days of use (one hour a day, typically) causes the problem to reappear. Then the problem re-occurs every few minutes until I uninstall the driver and re-install the driver. After that I can use the camera for a few hours before the crash problem returns.
I am using this camera on a machine that I use for nothing more than video conferencing. No games or junk. I do not even do word processing on this computer. The computer crashes only when using the Creative Webcam Live Pro! I wish they would really fix this driver. I would pay double for this camera if it worked well. As it is now, I am researching other cameras.

If your windows XP machine reboots?while using Capture or when you are using Skype video calling of Yahoo video calling, try using a USB port that plugs directly into you mother board. Also make sure it is a USB2 port and not a USB port. I had the camera plugged into a USB card that I added to my computer and it caused it to reboot after using the camera for a short time. If the problem persists, remove the program and reinstall making sure the camera is not connected to your computer until the software tells you to hook it up.

  • Computer Crashed. iTunes Library Lost. How can I get it back from my iPhone

I have 522 Purchased songs on my iPhone. My computer recently crashed and we got a new hard drive, so all settings were refreshed on my computer. I plugged in my iPhone to transfer my Purchases back to my iTunes library. Again, 522 Purchased songs, and only 303 of them copied. I tried transferring them again, however it didn't transfer anything. Is there anyway I can get the songs back from my iPhone?
Note: My iPhone is on automatic update, and if I try switching it to manual I'm prompted that in order for the change to occur I must Erase and Sync my iPhone which would completely defeat the purpose of my trying to get my music back on my computer so I can put new songs on my iPhone as well.

Purchased songs should be able to be copied back, but if not, maybe you need use other tools. This is a frequently asked question, you can have a look of below answer.

  • Computer crashed -- ITunes files gone -- How to restore music library???

Computer has crashed, and my Itunes library was not backed up. Can the music files be transferred from the Ipod to the computer to recreate the library??

Ok, first of all, now is the time to develop a back-up strategy, because iPods and PC's do crash from time to time. You invest a lot of time and money into your music library, why not on a back up strategy? I recommend either investing in an External Hard drive. They frequently are on sale, especially this time of year with the holidays. Or, you could back up your library by switching the burning mode into Data CD and burn Data CD's or DVD's of your library. I would really recommend having your library backed up in a couple ways.
Ok, so there are freeware programs and rather cheap third party programs that will allow you to rip your iPod library onto your PC. Try YamiPod, CopyPod, iPod Transfer or one of the plethora of programs out there. YamiPod is free and quite good, from what I hear. Good Luck and back up your library often.

  • Computer Crash - Itunes Gone

I had to replace my computer and I did not back up most of my Itunes library. Is there anyway to get all the information from my Ipod back onto my computer? I would hate to start all over and I don't want to sync my Ipod with a brand new library. Please help!
    Thank you

1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Computer Crash/Itunes Reinstall

The hard drive of the machine I use itunes on just took a dump. Once I get the machine back in working order how do I go about getting my music back into itunes. Most of my music I can recover from an exernal hard drive but about 20 or 30 newer songs I had not backed up to the external HD. Everything plus the newer stuff is on my Ipod. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    TJ

    TJ,
Yes, you need to copy the iDump.exe to the iPod.
Now when I connect my iPod to a fresh installation of iTunes I get this popup window:
The iPod "Ben Jr's iPod" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?
So I can only imagine that you will get the same message. Just make sure that you hit "Cancel" and you should be fine. There will be a quick "Syncing iPod" in the iTunes window, so don't freak out, it lasts like a second. Then you can "Enable disk use".
Now TJ please remember that I'm no expert, and this whole thing is making me nervous. I would hate for you to loose 20-30 songs because of me. I have two laptops, one with XP and one with Vista. I'm now testing this whole thing out on the XP laptop to make sure that the information that I'm giving you is correct, so I am testing this all out with you.
One thing that happened on the XP computer that didn't happen on the Vista machine is that when I double clicked on the iDump icon in the iPods directory the program opened behind the Explorer window, so at first I was like "What happened?"
So I minimized Explorer and saw iDump there waiting for me to select a language.
Now hurry up and tell me what happened.

  • KT4 Ultra crashing/rebooting problems

Hi all, I've been having computer crashing/rebooting problems when I play 3d games since I got this board. It can happen between 1-40 minutes during a game session and when the computer crashes, the screen would garble up and reboot along with the garbled screen until I cold boot it. Also, when I tried switching out the video card with an older one, the computer works fine during gameplay, and my newer video card ran fine on a friend's computer. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

my computer crashed so i had to reformat, but the only problem is i lost my old itunes account, had to download new version. Now i have an ipod full of music but how can i place all my music I have on the ipod into my new itunes account??

Not if you first do a sync and have iTunes make a backup. However, if your only copy of the iTunes data is in the Touch, then you need to first copy the data to a new iTunes Library using third-party software such as Phone To Mac.

  • HT1977 My Computer crashed so I have had to download iTunes all over again. The problem is now I can't sync my Apps to my iTunes. It doesn't let me arrange them or anything when plugging my iPad in. The screen is greylike and won't let me select anything

    Hi Guys,
My computer crashed and I lost everything. I got a new one and downloaded itunes all over again. When I plug my ipad in even after authorising my computer it will still not let me edit anything on the ipad. The screen is grey like on the ipad section and i cant select an app or anything. I have transfered purchase apps but all it does is take movies and tv shows accross. It wont transfer the apps into itunes. Please help

As far as I know, iTunes will still not change anything until you click on Apply in the lower right corner. I fiddle with my settings all the time - just so I can get a sense if what to expect should I make any changes - and I have never seen anything happen to my configuration unless I click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes. Not only that - you have turned off auto sync so as far as I know you still have to click on sync or apply in order for the iPad to sync with iTunes.
That doesn't mean it will not happen, I've never seen it happen - is all that I'm saying. I'm sorry but I'm not sure what will happen, but the only reason that I can of why the apps will not transfer is because of the manual manage setting. I could be wrong about that as well.
Look at this discussion - which I have referred quite a few users to read. I know this process has worked for a number of people that have read it and used the instructions in it. Maybe we are missing something - what that would be - I'm not quite sure, but take a look.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your comptuer.  Use your backup to  put everything back

  • My old computer crashed and my music is still on my Ipod but I need it to show up on Itunes and I'm not sure how?

My old computer crashed and I got a new laptop but none of my music that is still on my Ipod will show up in Itunes. I don't know how to get it to import. Whenever I select the Ipod folder through my computer to Import my data nothing shows up.
All my music is still on my Ipod but I need it to show up in Itunes and I only have 3 computers that are authorized so its not like I can deauthorize all the computers and start over.
I now have Windows 8 and I'm completely confused over this new version of Itunes.  I was having the same problem trying to figure out to import my music on Itunes from the old version with Windows 8 as well.

  • Computer crashes when trying to burn a cd in itunes

I have read many threads on this error 4280 but mine seems a little different. Every time I try and burn a cd from songs in my library something bad happens. I have had my computer crash several times. One time it crashed and then went into a scandisc mode. Once it crashed and then when my computer restarted everything that was supposed to load at startup had errors and wouldn't load. Yesterday, I tried to burn a cd again. This time I used only music that I had ripped from my own cd's through itunes. I have authorized my computer yet it said it wouldn't burn any of them because none of the songs were authorized? They are my songs, from my cd's! A few weeks ago I tried the same thing and it wouldn't burn the tracks because it said 2 of the tracks weren't authorized. Again, they were all ripped from my cd collection, not downloaded. I decided to restart my computer and try again. Same problem but this time it selected 2 different songs as the ones that weren't authorized. I am having serious issues with itunes crashing my computer. Anyone else have problems like this? I am using itunes 7.6?
    Thanks,
