Computer Crashed, Got New Hard Drive, Trying to Sync iPod

I recently got an iPod and uploaded hundreds of my albums into it. Shortly after that, my computer crashed, and though I was able to recover a lot of stuff, my iTunes library was decimated. I have a new hard drive now and when I went to add some stuff to my iPod I was told that I had to erase everything from this iPod and replace it with the new stuff because my iPod doesn't recognized this librarly. I guess my iPod is still "synched" with the no longer existing iTunes library lost in the crash.
Does this mean I can never add anything to my iPod unless I laboriously transfer hundreds of albums again and then add from there? I hope not!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Frank,
Are the songs still on your iPod?

Trying to transfer ipod to new computer. It is telling me to autharize computer. Had another ipod on same account, it gone now. Don't have password or any info about it. What do I do?

The password is for your iTunes account. Not for your old iPod. Enter your Email and password will give you access to all the music you bought from iTunes.  If you forget it then I dont know how to help you there guess your SOL.

Read the part about changing permissions on the iTunes folder in: https://discussions.apple.com/message/11583914

  • My computer crashed and got a new hard drive. I synced my Ipod to the new computer and i lost all my photos. Is there a way i can get them back. I do not know if my cloud worked.??

My computer crash and i got a new Hard Drive. I synced my Ipod to my Itunes and then lost all my photos that were on my ipod. I do not know if my cloud backed it up. Is there any way i can get my pictures back??????

    - If the photos were synced to the iPod they are gone
    - If they were taken by or saved to the iPod gp to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and look at the date/time of the iPod backup. If it is when you synced then restoring from backup should get the photos back.
    - If you had turned on Settings>iCloud>PhotoStream, then set up PhotoStream on the computer and get the last 30 days of photos from PhotoStream.  You should also be able to get them back by simply turning one Photostream on the restored iPod.

  • TS2972 My computer crashed and the hard drive is no longer.  I have purchased a new laptop but now have no access to my old itunes library.  My laptop has created a new itunes account with NOTHING in it?? My Itouch has everything loaded but it wont sync

My computer crashed and the hard drive is no longer.  I have purchased a new laptop but now have no access to my old itunes library.  My laptop has created a new itunes account with NOTHING in it?? My Itouch has everything loaded but it wont sync with this itunes account....HELP

    - Transfer iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    newer copy
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

  • I need help in restoring data recovered from hard drive crash to new hard drive

I have the data that was recovered by a recovery service (long story) from my wife's hard drive after it crashed, which is now stored on my computer. There are two user data sets that have been recovered, one for each of us. I need to put each on my wife's computer with its new hard drive, which now has OSX 10.10.? (Yosemite) on it.
My wife's computer was running OSX 10.7 (Lion) when the hard drive failed and my computer is still running OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
I was told that I should use the Data Transfer Utility (starting my computer up while holding the "T" key), but I have forgotten what I have to do when I start up her computer. Are there any operating system compatibility problems that are sensitive to this process?

That is a Microsoft Windows question??  You should probably ask this question on Microsoft's Forums.  BTW there is no "Windows 9".  Only Windows 7, Windows 8 and apparently MS is skipping the number 9 in favor of 10.

  • I am the administrator on my computer but my new hard drive is locked and does not give me permission to unlock

I am the administrator on my computer but my new hard drive is locked and does not give me permission to unlock. How do I fix this? I already tried fixing permissions.

Whoops! I don't know why but this time when I clicked on the lock it opened and I was able to fix the problem. I am curious tho' as to why this happened.

Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.

  • Just got a new hard drive, trying to down load new software and it tells me there is not enough hard drive space to install

I have a new hard drive on my Macbook.  I am trying to install a program from a disk.  I keep getting an error message that states I do not have enought free space on my HD.  My storage shows that I have plenty of space to install.  What do I need to do?  I do not have any photos, music or movies on my computer.  I haven't had time to reinstall any programs, so this is one program that I need to install and it won't let me install.

That refers to the RAM you have installed. Must be 2 GBs or more.

  • Is there a way to transfer all the music and apps from an iphone to a computer with a new hard drive

I've had a new hard drive fitted in my laptop and i wanted to know if there is a way that i could tranfer my music and app from my iphone to itunes on the computer?

Yes, the Mac can read NTFS drives, but not write to them.
If you have the drive formatted FAT or exFAt then the Mac can read and write to it. But before formatting, remove the data as it's erased, and format it on the PC as it's easier. Right click on Windows and Format.
    Drives, partitions, formatting w/Mac's + PC's
Moving your personal data via the external drive is likley the best option, there are other methods like Migration, but they are problematic and take a long time, a drive is simple, fast and direct.

  • New hard drive, need to sync music on my phone to the computer

I had to replace my hard drive a couple of weeks ago, and now when I go to sync my music content to the "new" computer, I get the "Erase" warning. Is there a work around for this?

Yes, if you transfer your iTunes library from the old hard drive to your new hard drive assuming the old drive is an internal drive. If an external drive or you store your iTunes library on an external drive, you can connect the external drive to your computer.
There is no way to send the iTunes content on your iPhone from your iPhone to MobileMe.
Your iTunes library that was/is available on the old drive must be available on your new drive, or made available by the computer that you sync your iPhone with.
Other than that, use the iTunes transfer process from your iPhone that I provided with my previous post, but this is for iTunes content on your iPhone that was purchased from the iTunes Store only.

  • I moved iTunes and library to new Hard drive M: , now Sync is lost. Need to collect files and rebuild to proper folder.

I installed a new hard drive and partitioned it into 2, P: Pictures: and M: Music: . I moved all my iTunes Files and Folders to the M: drive. Then when I connected my iPhone4 to iTunes it asked if I wanted to create a new sync, I said no but I seemed it couldn't find my old sync file. So I searched my computer for files and folders of iTunes and placed them all into a iTunes folder on the root of M: drive. I need to rebuild the iTunes folder correctly.
I have all the correct items on my iPhone and haven't lost anything. Its just a problem trying to sync. Biggest problem is my music. When I try to sync music there is trouble. I can't seen to remove all music from iPhone and resync. When I thought I did iTunes would say no more music will fit. (Music is normally 70% of my memory on phone and I try and leave 1GB of 16GB free on it).
I wan't to build the iTunes install on the D:\Program Files (x64)\  since I don't install anything on my SSD drive C: except Windows 7.

How exactly did you move the files or more specifically, what did you move?
The correct way to move the iTunes files is to move the ENTIRE iTunes folder (or copy it) from the original location to the new location.
Once moved, hold Shift while launching iTunes and point it to the new location.
If anything other than the ENTIRE iTunes folder was moved, it needs to be put back in the original location to correct the issues created then moved correctly.

  • My old mac crashed and new hard drive has new Pages on it but I cannot open any documents.  Says to save on 09, I had 08 but it crashed when the computer crashed.  Now what?

Open with new Pages and it says my documents are too old, must be opened and saved in 09, but I don't have 09, just fragments of 08 from my crashed hard drive.  What do I do now?

Do you still have your installer DVD?
Reinstall iWork '08 and upgrade it to v3.03:
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewtopic.php?t=432&mforum=iworktips ntrick
Then open your documents and Export them to Word .doc/x to open in Pages 5.2.
You can also ask Apple to supply you with iWork '09 so you can access your work.
If that is unsuccessful, since Pages 5.2 is a severe downgrade, missing 110 features, get the iWork '09 boxed set from Amazon for $19.99.

  • Just got new hard drive and now itunes wont work

I had my hard drive replaced in April and started having problems right away. I finally had a chance to bring it in today and they replaced the hard drive again. I don't have an external hard drive so I couldn't back up my music that way, so I tried using CDs and that didn't work either. At the store, the guy that was helping me suggested I use a flash drive. So, he did that for me. He said when I set up the computer I should open the flash drive first and drag and drop the saved music into the music folder and then open itunes. I did the first part but when I opened itunes I got a message saying "The file 'itunes library' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes.
Does anyone know what that means? itunes wont open at all and I can't even listen to my old music. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you try using the File>Add to Library option? I would dump everything you put in the music folder, since it's not recognizing it, and then try to re-import it using that option.
Technically, the prompt means that you're using, for example, iTunes 7 to try to open a file that iTunes 9 created, and it won't be able to do it. Do you know what version of iTunes you used to create the original file, and which version you're using now? It's hard to imagine the one you're currently using is older than the one creating the file.
