Computer Crashed, Had to reinstall, worried about phone :(

So my Windows 7 machine just crashed, and I decided to go back to XP, I was stupid and never made a physical backup of my iTunes library, and now I'm worried that if I plug my iPhone into my machine it will erase the music off my phone?
Is there a way I can circumvent this? I really don't want to have to redownload 20GB of music... PLUS my apps...

Hi There -
I have a similar situation, but with an XP machine. This PC and itunes was used for my iPhone, and I am very concerned what I'll need to do once I format the hard drive and start over. Additionally, I think this was my 5th authorized itunes install (this same thing has happened several times, unfortunately), but I have never had an iphone before, so this seems a little more daunting. Any suggestions on what to do (or avoid) before I start would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Jon

Hi my computer crashed, so had to reinstall itunes now I cant sync my ipod touch 4g. How do I back up all my apps and music so that I can update to ios5?
    Thanks

    - Transfer iTuns purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program lke one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right-clicking on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup. That should also get you the update.
    - If in the USA, you can also redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Computer crashed had to reinstall itunes

This may sound stupid but I had to get a new hard drive and so all of my songs from iTunes are gone now that I reinstalled it. What I'm wondering is that if I hook my iPod up to the computer if all of my songs will be deleted off of it since none of them are in iTunes?

Nevermind, found a previous post that answered my question.

  • Computer crashed had to reinstall windows how do i get my music off iphone back on to itunes

after reinstalling windows obviously itunes is empty and my songs are on iphone. any surgestions?

The 5 authorized COMPUTERS has NOTHING to do with ipods.
Itunes will allow up to 5 computers to be authorized to play pre-itunes+ music. When you reach the limit of 5 COMPUTERS, then you can de-authorize them all, then authorize the active ones again.
You can sync as many ipods as you like to a computer.
In the future, it is a good idea to de-authorize before re-installing your os or getting rid of a computer.

  • HT1766 My computer crashed; had to restore back to original factory settings; how do I access my Itunes account now?

My computer crashed; had to restore it back to the original factory settings.  How do I get my I-Tunes account back on to the computer?  My I-phone (5) is fine, and has all the information on it.
I did have I-Cloud backing things up, I don't think it will restore all my podcasts, or the music I downloaded from my CDs.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • I bought new computer so had to reinstall itunes in new one, how can I recover my playlist

bought a new computer and had to reinstall Itunes in newone. So how do I recover my playlist I had?

It helps to post in the correct forum. This forum is for asking questions about how to use the forums in ASC. There are specific forums for iTunes For Mac and iTunes For Windows.  Which platform do you use?
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

I removed your serial number as it is not the wisest thing to place in public view.

You definitely need to resurrect the old password associated with the Apple ID you used to purchase the music.
    Go here: https://iforgot.apple.com
An email will be sent to the email address associated with that account with instructions regarding resetting that Apple ID's password.
If you no longer have access to that email, the resolution to this problem becomes considerably more difficult. In that event you would need to contact iTunes Support and explain your dilemma.

  • I have an iPod video. My computer crashed, I have reinstalled iTunes, luckily I had back up of music so that's ok. I have photos on my iPod that I would like to transfer back to the computer as I lost them!! But it is a database file and I cannot open it.

My computer crashed and I lost my photos, but had a backup of my music. How can I open the database file to transfer the pics back to my computer? Help please.

You won't be able to, just by navigating out the iPod's photos folder in iTunes. You'll likely need the help of some sort of third party software to get the job done for you.  One thing you'll want to keep in mind about these photos is that they are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnail versions that were optimized for viewing on your iPod's Video smaller 2.5" LCD display.
    Here is one such product.

  • Help-computer crashed-had to re-install itunes

Okay, computer crashed and had to re-install itunes, how do i get all the songs on my daughter's iopd back into the library. After I installed itunes, a window popped up saying that this ipod is already in sync with another library, and can only be synced with one library at a time. But I don't HAVE the other library anymore. It gives me two options, to erase everything on the ipod and replace it with whats in the new library (which has nothing but 3 free songs that will get deleted anyway) or the transfer just the purchased songs into the new library. But what about all the other songs that are on there?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Connect your iPod and when you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. A paragraph on the transfer of iTMS purchases has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • My computer crashed, had to reset. I lost my ITunes library, I have my muxsic on my Ipod, just created a new Apple ID, bought 2 new songs, but I cannot sync the new purchase to my Ipod. How can I copy the new purchase to my Ipod and or how can I copy my ?

My computer crashed. Had to reset totally. Re-installed Itunes, forgot my Apple ID, so I created a new one. Now I don't have my music library. I just purchased two new songs, they are now in the Itune library. But I can't sync them to my Ipod, much less transfer the music in my Ipod to the Itunes Library, could anyone help me with this problem?

Call Apple Care for your country and request that they assist you in resetting the security questions.
To authorize/deauthorize a computer, go to the Store dropdown menu in the iTunes app.

  • Awdd_2013-01-27-1.consolidated.metriclog    What does this mean? Is it just a crash or something to worry about?

I found this on diagnostics, I assume its just a small crash, as crashes a happen all the time, it's on an iPad mini. I worry a lot about stuff like this, so dont worry me unnecessarily please! :) it is not jail broken.

It's nothing to worry about. It is a crash report. I have them as well. There is no need to concern yourself with those reports unless your iPad is constantly crashing. If it is, you need to do something to try to stop the crashes, and if you can't, then you would need to Contact an Apple Store for help.
Stay away from those diagnostics data reports, use your iPad and enjoy it.
