Computer crashed, lost all my itunes.

Hi everyone. This is my first post on here. OK, my computer just crashed and I had too restore it back to factory and I lost all my itunes. Is there anyway that I can transfer my itunes from my ipod video to my itunes library on my PC? I really dont want to buy all my music again. Thanks for the help.
Frank

You can do it, but it is important NOT to let your iPod synchronise with your empty library as that will delete the music from your iPod.
Here is a selection of programs that can copy from iPod to PC:
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
iGadget Windows Only
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
PodPlayer Windows Only
CopyPod Windows Only http://www.copypod.net/index.php
Or to copy in Windows (A little more complicated)see:

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.

  • Computer crashed, lost all itunes but they are still on IPOD- sync trouble

My computer crashed and I lost everything including my itunes library- luckily all my music is on my ipod. I found the latest itunes and installed it and then found I had to register the computer for itunes which I did. There is an option to tranfer purchases (which I assume means transfer them from my ipod to my computer) but every time I try this the whole thing freezes. Also the computer appears to sometime have trouble recognising the ipod- when I try to access the USB through my computer is says there is no disk. It appears I can't put any new songs on until I sync the ipod- but my only options appear to be sync and erase and I will lose hundreds of dollars of music.

    Welcome to AD!
Is your PC authorized for the itunes store? If so, when you connect your ipod, you should see a message about transferring purchases. Here is a screenshot of that message

Clearly, you DO NOT want to push the "erase and sync" button!

  • Computer crashed - lost all - need info please

my home pc crashed and I lost info. my question is: do I need to start all over with a new itunes download - how to get all my songs and info from iphone to the "new" itunes. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

The iphones music and pic sync is one way - computer to iphone.
Your data should be backed up to an external source, as hard drives can and do fail. You can take your back-up data and put it on the new computer.
If you do not have back-up, you ay be able to save the music purchased from itunes by attaching iphone and clicking File>transfer purchases.
The iphone is not a storage device.

  • My old computer crashed, with all my iTunes data on. What do I do?

    Hi,
I have over 200 songs on my iPod, and I liked to import CD's to my iPod using my old computer, which crashed, meaning I can't transfer CD's to my iPod. I got iTunes on my netbook, and I also have a disc drive, so I tried to import my new CD from there to my iPod, but when I tried syncing the library (with my CD on now) it said "Are you sure you want to remove existing music, films, TV programs, books, and tones from this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?" But I don't want to remove ALL of my songs from my iPod, because I love music and I don't want to lose them forever...what do I do, I don't understand? How do I put my CD onto my iPod without removing any songs?
    Thanks.

For non-Tune purchases you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

  • I just synced my iphone to a new computer and lost all my itunes libary.  It's on the computer but not on the phone.

I justtryed to sync my iPhone with a new laptop and lost my itunes library from the phone.  I'd already moved iTunes to the laptop.  What did I do wrong, and is there a way to reclaim the library?

Was the music purchased from iTunes?
Can you sync other music to the iPod?
What happens when you try to sync?
When you switch syncing computers you have to restore the iPod on the new computer. Did you do that?
You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library but you can manage music and videos among different computers. See:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers

  • Computer crashed, lost all content.  Need to transfer songs from iPod to PC

I have a solution for you, but I have it in the office. If you don't get a solution today, email me at [email protected] and I will forward the directions. It's quite simple.

  • I had dowloaded all of my itunes library to my iphone from my home computer/my computer crashed and all of the music that was on my itunes is only on my iphone now. How do I take that music from my iphone and put it onto my itunes on my new computer?

I had downloaded all of my itunes library to my iphone from my home computer, My home computer crashed and all my itunes library was lost but it is still on my iphone. Is there a way that I can take all the music on my iphone that is all of my music from my itunes from my old computer and download it to my new computer that I have another itunes on? I tried to sync the music on my iphone to my itunes and I could not figure out a way to sync the music without erasing all of the music on my iphone. Does anyone have any suggestions?

For music that you've purchased from Apple that are on your iPhone you should be able to copy to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. Also if you are in the US then you should be able to re-download past music purchases for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
For your own music that you've copied, then if you haven't got a backup on, for example, external drives or CDs/DVDs then you could see if any of the utilities mentioned in this old post still exist and work

  • So my computer crashed and i had lost all my itunes purchases and dont know how to get them back, so my computer crashed and i had lost all my itunes purchases and dont know how to get them back

You have a backup of your computer, or at the very least of your iTunes media, correct?
Simply copy your backup of your iTunes media into the iTunes library on your new computer.
Connecting and syncing your device to the new computer without first recovering your iTunes media is a really, really, really bad idea.  iDevices are designed to ONLY sync with one computer.  When you plug your device into a new computer, it will wipe all media on the device when it syncs.  The only media you may be able to salvage and transfer to the new computer would be anything bought directly on the device.
If you do not have a backup of your iTunes media, then you will want to either look at a way (using software from a third party company)  to either extract the media from you iDevice or your old computer (assuming the hard drive is not toast).

  • HT203167 My computer crashed and i lost all my Itunes media ?!

Recently my computer crashed and I lost all my Itunes Media...I have absolutely no idea what I should do ?!
Could somebody tell me what to do ?

If you have a backup to an external hard disk, then install iTunes and place the backup of C:\users\????\Music\iTunes back into that folder. If you need to redownload old purchases, then go into iTunes and go store -> purchased -> download previous purchases and that will at least get you what you bought from Apple. If you could elaborate on what kind of crash, I might be able to recommend a few other things, but that would be less Apple support and more data recovery.

  • My old computer crashed and deleted my iTunes media file with all my playlist. However, my iPod has the playlist I lost on the computer. How can I replace (reverse synch?) my iPod media information back onto my (now reinstalled) virgin iTunes media folder

My old computer crashed and deleted my iTunes media file with all my playlist. However, my iPod has the playlist I lost on the computer. How can I replace (reverse synch?) my iPod media information back onto my (now reinstalled) virgin iTunes media folder?

Yes it's possible to sync music back from a iPod back into iTunes that (I assume) wasn't purchased on the iTunes Store.
Apple allows iTunes Store purchases on devices to be reversed back into iTunes, just not cd rips and stuff like that. For that it's a one way trip to the device from iTunes.
I likely can't suggest such software here, but if you visit iLounge you can ask what is the latest software that works for your platform.
Really it only takes a mere few minutes to backup your iTunes Library and stick in a few cd/dvd's or a external drive. iTunes even has a menu command for it to make it oh so simple. Please use it and backup all your data.
Hard drives fail, computers burn up, thieves steal, stuff gets forgotten. Plan for something happening because it will.
    Good Luck

  • Pc crashed lost all itunes music

My pc crashed and I lost all my Itunes music. is there any way to download from my ipod to my itunes? If not what can I do.
    thanks

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
