Computer crashed need to recover work

How do I recover work in final cut pro x after my computer crashed? Is there an auto save file

Hi, I've been abe to reinstate corrupt or "damaged" FCPX projects by simply digging into the structures where you maintain your FCPX project as follows:
/volumes/some_file_system_thats_yours/Final Cut Projects/your_buggered_FCPX_project_thats_failing/
and listing these directories that are common to ALL FCPX projext in that file system. These are:
Backups
CurrentVersion.fcpproject
Old Versions
Render Files
Shared Items
The CurrentVersion.fcpproject object is the one that is trying to be LOADED by FCPX whe u expose or select in the UI... so
just rename it (CurrentVersion.fcpproject -> CurrentVersion.fcpproject_old) or MOVE it somewhere where out of Final Cut Projects/your_buggered_FCPX_project_thats_failing u might want to get at it later if u have too.)
Simply navigate to /volumes/some_file_system_thats_yours/Final Cut Projects/your_buggered_FCPX_project_thats_failing/Backups and DUPLICATE (copy) the first one (e.g. CurrentVersion (655 - 2011-09-25 02-18-36 +0000).fcpproject) in that folder back to the corrupted project folder Final Cut Projects/your_buggered_FCPX_project_thats_failing and rename it to CurrentVersion.fcpproject
Fire up (launch) FCP X 10.0.7 and see if your project comes back to life!
IF not repeat the above steps and this time try each of the .fcpprojects in /volumes/some_file_system_thats_yours/Final Cut Projects/your_buggered_FCPX_project_thats_failing/Old Versions
Usually you can get your work back.
I recall in a previous version of FCPX you could cntl+"gear down" (RMB) on the FCPX Icon in the dock and previous versions of projects would show up for selections. I'll stand corrected. Anyway Its not around in 10.0.7 or .6
There's probably a better way to do tis.. I'm interested ofcourse . This works quite well though....
Yeah timemachine.app is lovely but useless for the large objects in Final cut EVEnts and Final Cut PRojects that are maintains on filesystems that are not in the main sart up file system. I'd suggest that your acquire soem additional storgage ( a self powered external powersupply disk, cloud or LTO tape etc) and simply rsync -rav --progress your Final Cut Projects from your production file systems to make an up to date instance of your work. If you have the original media elsewhere there would be less need to also maintin this.
Try this and post your results back for others to see.

  • Old computer crashed, need to recover info to new computer that has FF now installed and somethings setup. Need to pick and chose what is brought over from old

Had to buy new computer and it is windows 8.1 vs the old was XP. It took 10 days to get the cabling to connect the old HD to new computer USB port.
I need the computer for my work so I had to manually configure and set up enough to keep working. This includes FF.
Now that I have access to the old HD I want to selective bring over things from the old FF configuration and set up as I do not want to destroy the what I have already set up and configured. I guess you could say I am looking to do a selective merge of the two configuration and user data files.

See this support article - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20profile
Any file that you copy from the old Profile into the new Profile ''(will overwrite the new file)'' will delete the info that is in the new Profile.
Tell us exactly what data you want to actually "merge" and we might have a solution for you. Bookmarks are easy to "merge" once you know how; other types of data aren't as easy to "merge".

  • Itouch stolen and computer crashed - need help recovering

Hope someone can help with this. My touch was stolen at the beginning of the week. Followed up by a motherboard crash on my Dell.
I've pulled the hard drive and put it into an external case and attached it to my netbook which is an authorized computer. I can't deauthorize the old computer.
So now I've got an iPhone4 and would like to get all my music, purchased and otherwise onto my netbook and synced with my iPhone.
I did a search on restore from backup but didn't really find a solution as I don't have the touch any more.
Any help on figuring out how to work through this would be appreciated.

  • Computer crashed, need to download iphone music to desktop

computer crashed, I need to know how to download iphone music to desktop.  In the past i could explore through computer then portable devices but only my pictures show up even if you un hide all files.

You can transfer music purchased from the iTunes store from your phone to your iTunes library, but music from other sources can only be transferred from your phone by using 3rd party software such as Touch Copy.  These user tips may also be of interest:

  • Computer crashed - need to sync ipod w/ library

My computer crashed. I've downloaded iTunes 7.6 on a new computer. When I log in, my iTunes library is empty. I pulled in my iPod and it says that it's synced to another computer (yes, the one that is dead). How can I transfer all of the songs on my iPod (purchased thru the store and downloaded from CDs) to an iTunes library. Please keep instructions clear and my computer skills are limited!!! Thanks for your help!!!

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Computer Crashed, need to reload Itunes

    Hi,
My computer crashed and it looks like I'm going to have to reformat my harddrive.
I am going to attempt to slave the h/d to another pc in order to save some of my files before I reformat.
Will saving my entire Itunes directory, installing Itunes on the formatted harddrive using the software, then copying the saved directory over the newly installed software work?
If not, what is the best way to get my music back into Itunes without having to re-download it from all my CDs.
There are some songs in Itunes that are not on my Ipod so transfering the music from the Ipod back to Itunes is not going to restore all my music.
Suggestions would be really helpful! Also, does Itunes store music in any other directory besides the Itunes one?
    XPS400   Windows XP Pro

Yes if you copy the iTunes folder, it contains your library files as well as your music, so everything should be preserved.
What you are doing is analagous to using an external disk to transfer iTunes to a new computer.
There is an apple article about doing this with an iPod but it may cause more confusion than light as you would not be using the iPod. You would start at "Get iTunes ready on your new computer"
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
You can also copy your music back from your iPod, there is a Zevoneer post about it here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3860757#3860757
But if you can copy the iTunes folder in its entirity to another drive, then copy it back that is the simplest.
Your iPod can act as a secondary backup in case the other thing goes wrong.

  • Computer Crashed need help!!!

My computer crashed and I had to get a new computer...I lost all of my itunes songs in my library but I still have them all on my ipod..is there any way I can get them onto my new computer??? I also have Windows not a Mac.

    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2).
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
The above methods may depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod.

my computer crashed and had no backup files. i have all my songs on my ipod and need to load them to my new computer. how do i do this?

Hi! Welcome to Apple Discussions Forum.
If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Some can also transfer your playlists, videos, ratings, podcast...

  • Computer crashed, need to get pics and music of iPod

Not too long ago my computer crashed and I had to rebuild everything, I did not back up my music onto a disk. ( I know my biggest mistake ) I need to find out how to make my iPod a mass storage device (msd) so that I can get the songs and pictures off and back onto my computer, without having to download all the cd's and music files. (i.e. over 2000 songs and 250 pictures) Please Help!!!!!

    Hello loislane33,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

For your photos, your best option is to use a third party utility or check out this article below from Apple. Just keep in mind that if you did not store the photos in their full resolution, you will not be able to restore them back to their original resolution, but instead will have the smaller images (smaller resolution) that were created to fit on the iPod's screen.
