  • Old Computer Crashed, Need to transfer music from iPod

My old computer recently crashed, with it my iTunes. I have my iPod Nano (3G) and I was wondering if there is a way to move the music on my iPod to the iTunes. All of the music on my iPod was not always purchased on the iTunes store. Help!

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod (they will copy music purchased from iTunes and also music from other sources). You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

As you may have already found out that while we can transfer music from iTunes to an iPod, we cannot transfer music from iPod to iTunes.
You need to move your music from your iPod to your new iTunes and one of the ways that you can do this is with the help of a third party software.
Please read [*_This Discussion Thread_*|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10570955#10570955] and pay particular attention to the post from Zevoneer. In his post all available software is listed which you can use to accomplish what you want. Most of the software is free. Good Luck.

  • Old Hard drive crashed, need to transfer music from iPod to new computer

Hello. My old hard drive crashed and I bought a new computer. Unfortunately I did not back up any files from my old computer and lost all files including iTunes music. All I have is the music from my iPod. I would like some help or if anyone knows anything about how to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer. I guess my new computer is not the original authentic one in the itunes system and will not let me exchange music from my iPod to new computer. I would appreciate help if anyone has ideas. Thank bunches.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Computer crash, need to transfer data from ipod to mac!

Judging from the other posts, it seems that the iPod only officially does a one-way sync computer to iPod.
However, my mac DIED and took all my contacts, calendar and music with it. It had to be reformatted, and all that is left is on my iPod.
Do I really have no chance to recover it?
Seems like every article someone posts with info that could help is an unknown link. Are these Apple guys trying to sabatoge our chances of doing a "reverse-sync" by corrupting the links?
Will someone please direct me to software or information that will help me recover my info and put my music back onto my computer?

  • How to transfer music from iphone to computer?

My computer crashed and after repairing all my itunes backup files are gone.There’re almost 500 songs in it…But I still have those music on my iphone, so can I transfer the music back to computer from my iphone?

Pop into iTunes and choose File –> New Playlist. Now you can just drag and drop music from your iTunes library (in iTunes, needless to say) into this new playlist. When you're ready, you'll see a bunch of music happily ensconced in the playlist.Cool. Now click on the "Music" tab and you'll see that you can select "sync playlist". Do that, then select the new iPhone sync playlist you've created.Set things up just as I have shown and that's all there is to it. Now click "Sync" in iTunes and it'll synchronize your playlist with the iPhone music library and next time you click on that ole' "iPod" button on the iPhone, your selections from you music library will be present. You may also follow this guideHow to Transfer Music from iPhone to Computer

My computer was stolen. How do i transfer music from iPhone to iTunes?,

You can recover any purchased songs that are on iPhones using the procedure here.
If this is not available, you can ask Apple to allow you to download your music again. Note that, first, they DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS. Purchase of music from the iTunes store entitles you to one download of that item. Second, note that if Apple does allow you to download a second time, they have to pay royalties on each download, whether you pay for it or not. Last, if they allow it, please back up your purchases.
To request a redownload, contact iTunes support from the menus in iTunes or use this page.
    Best of luck.

iTunes will transfer your purchases from your iPhone to your new computer by using File>Transfer Purchases. For the rest of the content that’s on your iPhone use a program called TouchCopy which works on Windows and the Mac. It transferred my music, photos, contacts and SMS to my new computer very well.

You don't.  The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  the only exception is itunes purchases.
The iphone is not a backup device.

If it's iTunes purchases (or if you have iTunes Match) then you might be able to re-download them via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPad. Otherwise you will need to sync your music via your computer's iTunes, you can't connect an iPhone to an iPad for direct transfer

I'm attempting to find out what connection I need to transfer music from my IPad to a friend's tablet.

This cannot be done. If the music exists on a computer in your iTunes library, or in a folder for that matter, you can transfer it that way. Otherwise, there is no way to perform this kind of action.

any itunes purchased music can be transferred from phone to pc via hitting the "transfer purchases" option when u right click on the phone under devices in itunes on the computer when it is plugged in. any non-itunes purchased music is stuck on the phone and cannot be transferred to the computer. u will have to load it onto the computer from the original source or from the old computer.
