Computer crashed new memory installed... iPod says it has to erase now

My Dell (go figure) crashed long story short I had the memory replaced in it. Now when I connect my iPod it says it's synced to another computer and i can only listen to music cant add or delete or anything. How can I get it so that the iPod and my computer recognize each other again. Also I have an external hard drive an all my music is saved to that along with the iTunes program. That is why I am so confused because the iTunes was always on the external and that is fine it was just my computer that messed up. Thanks!

is it purchased music that you have? if so you just have to authorize the computer under the store tab.

  • Loss of BB since computer crash - new XP install

    Hello all,
A couple of days ago my pc crashed (big style!) and needed a reinstall of XP SP2.
I've got most programs to work again, but can't connect to my Home Hub 2.0.
There is no software left on the machine for the Home Hub, and I was under the impression it is a plug and play router, in that windows will install it for me.
I've tried hunting for drivers etc to install to get it running, but can't find a single version of the firmware (or anything) online to download & reset the hub.
I can connect wirelessly, but isn't even being found when using the ethernet cable. I even tried using the BTBB desktop help, which after resetting the hub, it promptly encounters a problem and closes.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get the hub to work again, or where the software can be found to download?
Thanks for your help in advance.

your motherboad manufacturer will have the drivers you need on their website so you can download and run - there will be others which you may download and run as well

  • My computer crashed and I had to re load my operation system. now itunes won't open. it says it was created by a newer version? what is that?

my computer crashed and I had to re load my operation system. now, when I try to open my itunes all I get is a message that says "can not be read because itunes was created by a newer version" what does that mean and how do I correct it. I need my music back!

As iTunes is uopgraded the newer versions require that the iTunes database be upgraded to match. It sounds like you now have an older version of the sftware attempting to load an upgraded library which it can't do.
What version of OS X are you running?
What version of iTunes are you currently running?
What versions were you running when your system crashed?

Computer crashed; new C drive installed. How do I restore/recover my bookmarks on Sync? Would rather not start from square one.

Without the Sync Key, even if you could connect and download your data from the Sync server it would be useless without your Sync Key. The Sync Key is used to encrypt & decrypt the data going to & coming from the Sync server.

  • I want to make a TimeMachine backup in a new hard-drive I just bought. It says it has to erase the info but as the drive is new there's no info in it, so what it is going to be erased?

I want to make a TimeMachine backup in a new hard-drive I just bought. It says it has to erase the info but as the drive is new there's no info in it, so what it is going to be erased?
I had to format it after I bought it so that it could work with windows and Mac and I'm afraid that if I erase the info in the hard-drive, the format will also change. Is that possible to happen? Or the format will stay the same?
    Thank you

Do you want to continue to use it to share and store files between Windows and NTFS and Mac which uses HFS?
Maybe you need another drive. I would never have only one backup and one "live" data set.
you probably installed something, whether it is current or well supported or not, that came with the drive to allow writing to NTFS.
TimeMachine has to use HFS only and use Apple GPT (GUID) format.
sometimes erase changes a drive to GUID when you click on the raw hard drive name in Disk Utility. other times you can erase a volume and leave the partition format type as is. The wording use to be clearer when people knew when and how to initialize, format and setup a drive. And sometimes a message on the screen says it will be only launches Disk Utility and not to the PARTITION tab to make changes.
In addition to TimeMachine, having a clone of your system or data or both can be very useful as well. Drives fail.
And with a MacBook Air you probably have a smallish internal hard drive and might need to store media files and data on another drive to supplement the internal SSD.

  • I dont understand why my ipod says it has 8gb but holds 6.36gb capacity and it always says over capacity by 35.4mb and i deleted lots of my apps but it keeps doing the same thing soo annoying .

I dont understand why my ipod says it has 8gb but holds 6.36gb capacity and it always says over capacity by 35.4mb and i deleted lots of my apps but it keeps doing the same thing soo annoying . ANYONE KNOWS WHY?!

I had a similar problem and after deleting endlessly...and weeks of frustration I (without even realizing what I was on to) deleted my text messages. I had been letting them add up since it seemed easier to text someone if it were readily available. Needless to say, I ended up with nearly double the space/memory available.

  • Following two changes to my computer it is only my iPod classic which has my full library of tunes on it - how can I transfer these back to the computer?

Following two changes to my computer it is only my iPod classic which has my full library of tunes on it - how can I transfer these back to the computer?

    Hello, Ray.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple options available to you to transfer purchased media to your computer.  Below, I have included a couple articles that outline this process.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
Please note that this feature works only for items that were purchased on the iTunes Store. Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your iPod to the iTunes library.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

If you still have access to your old computer, see the steps in the article below.

  • Old computer crashed and cannot sync ipod to new computer?

My old computer crashed and now i got a new computer. I can download songs from itunes with my appleID but they wont sync to my ipod?! I tried following the troubleshoot for authorizing a new computer and it says it is now authorized. I also use to use home sharing for my and my mom's computers. I deauthorized all computers and then tried re authourizing this one but still no luck. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Im leaving for vacation Friday and would love to have all the songs I just purchased go onto my ipod! Thanks for any help!

    Hey missyt23
I would try restoring the iPod and then sync again. A thing to look for is to change settings for syncing music. For example change to manually manage music and drag the music to the iPod.

  • Computer crashed. Re installed os x tiger, when trying to download it says I already have the programs in my computer, Can I recover my old things?

My computer had crashed. I tried most everything and had to resort to re installing my os x tiger discs. When my computer crashed, I was running snow leopard. I do not have the disc for it. Anyhow, I am now trying to download things and it is saying I already have them in my system which is leading me to believe that all of my stuff is still on the computer. So my question is, if it is.. how do I retrieve it? And is there a way for me to get my snow leopard back without having the disc? I am trying to avoid going to an apple store because I cannot afford it. I really hope someone has some answers on this for me. Thank you for your time!

  • Computer crash - how to use ipod to transfer songs to new computer?

DD's computer crashed last week - now has a new computer. We need to get songs from 20 G color/photo ipod onto new computer. Apple help pages only seem to give you options using your old computer to set ipod to transfer music. Can anyone direct us to information on getting ipod linked to new computer and transfering music over?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
