Computer Crashed, Now cracked Screen on Phone, How do I get my songs? Gurus

Ok, heres the deal, have a computer that Windows based I downloaded all my songs over 2000 dollars worth, well that crashed and wouldnt load 3 months ago. In the mean time, I was downloading directly off my 2G Iphone. Well my bro put another harddrive and operating system in. So on my computer I was still able to download Itunes and then Grab that folders from my old hard drive and authorize my new computer. Now I cracked my phone and Im getting a new one. How do I get the songs and apps I bought off my Iphone, so that I have them when I get my new Iphone?

With iphone attached, in itunes click File>Transfer Purchases.
This will get your itunes purchased music from iphone to your computer.
The apps should transfer automatically. If not, you should be able to download again for free. You will go through the buy screen, but there should be no charge. You can do a forum search for this as it has been asked and answered before.

That's what backups are for. Use Time Machine. It's free and external drives are cheap. To recover your iPhone's content requires the use of third party utilities. Success is not guaranteed. Read:

Where have you looked for iPhoto? Is it gone from your Dock or the applications folder?
Have you searched with Spotlight? Enter iPhoto into the searchfield in the upper right corner of your screen and then look, if it will be listed in the "Applications" section of the list.
What happenend, before iPhoto vanished? Did you upgrade any software?

you can get your apps back by looking at you download history after signing in in itunes.
for the songs if they were purchased from the itunes store, same method.
if they were just mp3 files dowloaded from somewhere else, unless you have them saved somewhere, sorry man.

One thing that I also recommend in the future is to back your iTunes library up relatively regularly. You can get your purchases in the cloud just fine, typically, but at the very least, it will save some time by backing it up.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.

The music sync is one way -computer to ipod. The exception is itunes music.

I have an older IiPod Nano, model MC027LL. I'm using 2.6 GB of space, but I have 4.7 GB of space remaining. I've had iTunes for several years now. I recently had to have my hard drive re-imaged. When I got it back, I downloaded iTunes again, signed into my account, and when I clicked on "Purchases" I could see my songs. Is it possible that my iPod is so old that it is causing these problems? If so, if I get a new iPod, how do I ensure that I can still get my iTunes installed once again onto my new iPod.?

It sounds like your iPod is causing an error message to appear in iTunes when you connect it so you cannot transfer your purchases to the computer. I wouldn't jump to needing a new iPod just yet, I would like you to use the troubleshooting in the following article about that error message. It may come to reinstalling iTunes, but if that's the case there are specific steps to do it in a certain order that it will walk you through for Windows 7.

If you bought your songs through iTunes, then you would simply log in again on your new device and download them again.

Well "crashed" is a broad description.
1: Does Windows fail to boot and everything else works?
2: Does the computer physically not work? Does the hard drive still work?
3: Did you erase anything on the hard drive?
You see, if Windows fails to boot, one can boot off a cd/dvd/usb key with a operating system on it and recover files.
If the computer physically doesn't work, the hard drive might still work. It can be extracted and a adpater used to recover the files.
If the hard drive is dead, and the content is worth a lot of money, say more than $3000, then it might be worth having a platter recovery service take a look at it for $2000 or more.
But if you overwrote anything on the drive, then your finished.
There is one last option, if you have all your content on a iDevice, it might be recoverable with third party software, ask over at iLounge (can't say it here)

Have you tried syncing the iPhone to your computer and restoring from the backup to see if you can get your other songs back? If you purchased the new album with your Apple ID, you should be able to download it to your computer to sync.
