Computer Crashed.. Syncing contacts??

My macbook is completely destroyed, so I purchased a macbook pro. I'm scared to sync my iPhone to the new computer because I don't want to loose my contacts, or anything else. Is there a way to transfer my contacts, music, and ringtones to the new computer? Or a way to sync, and not loose this information? HELP PLEASE!!!

Since it seems you didn't maintain a backup for this data on your MacBook, enter one contact in the Address Book, and one calendar event in iCal on your MBP before syncing.
Regarding music, iTunes includes an option to transfer content purchased from the iTunes Store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for content purchased from the iTunes Store only.
With your iPhone connected and before syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. This will transfer all content that was purchased from the iTunes Store that is available on your iPhone to your iTunes library on your MBP. All content not purchased from the iTunes Store will be lost.
Then enter one contact in the Address Book, and one calender event in iCal before syncing. This should prompt you to merge this data with the Address Book and iCal on your MBP.
The iPhone is not designed as a backup device, and should not be considered as such. I suggest purchasing an external drive to be used for backup purposes only - preferably a Firewire drive. Purchase one with at least the same capacity as your MBP's hard drive capacity. There are some backup utilities available that will produce a bootable clone of your hard drive stored on the external drive. This way if you experience another hard drive failure with your MBP, which is inevitable since it isn't a matter of if, but when your hard drive has a partial or complete failure since none last forever, you can recover all data on your MBP's hard drive, and run your MBP from your external drive (since it will be a bootable clone), while you are waiting to replace your MBP's hard drive.

  • Computer crashed. sync ipod to new itunes but threatens to erase! pls reply

    Hi,
my computer crashed and everything has been wiped.
So i download new itunes, and sync my ipod but threatens to erase all my files.
This computer runs on Windows XP and my ipod is an ipod touch.
Is there any way to get all my music & videos onto my computer or straight onto itunes?
There's just alot of music and videos that i can't just download them all again!

    Welcome to AD!
My advice is to use a 3rd-party ipod manager program to get everything off the ipod.

Also explained here: iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    Contacts
To sync contacts with your computer, choose "Sync Contacts with" within iTunes for Windows, or "Sync Address Book Contacts" on your Mac.
You can sync your contacts with:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Outlook 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7)
    Windows Address Book (Windows XP)
Windows Contacts (Windows Vista / Windows 7)
    Address Book (Mac OS X)
Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008, or Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
Note: If using Microsoft Entourage, use Microsoft Entourage 2008 12.1.2 or later if syncing with Mac OS X v10.6 or later. If you would like to sync data on your Mac with Entourage, enable syncing between Entourage and Address Book.

Unable to Sync Contacts from IPhone to itunes on Laptop ?

    Hi ShimaNY10001!
I have an article here for you that can provide some more information so that you can perform this sync successfully. That article can be found right here:
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1296
Specifically, it seems like this section might be most useful to you:
    Notes:
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups. The option to sync selected items may not show up until after the first sync.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
Additional options for syncing include syncing your contacts with Yahoo or Gmail/Google Mail. You will need to configure it with the user name and password for your Yahoo or Google account.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

  • My old computer crashed and i lost everything from contacts too music. i have a new labtop and want to sync my contacts and music and apps over to itunes without everything being erased. what is the easiest way to do that?

My old computer crashed and i lost everything that was on itunes and on the computer contacts music etc. i want to get the new iphone but the 3gs i have has not been sync with the new computer & I don't want to loose or have everything erased on my phone just want to put everything that's on my phone to new computer. what the most uncomplicated way to do that?

    No.
All iTunes content on your iPod Touch should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and your iTunes library on your computer should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data - stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only.
When music was purchased on a CD, if the CD was lost and you returned to the store where the CD was purchased with your receipt, were you given a replacement CD?
    The same applies here.

  • Computer crashed can i sync to new computer without losing contacts that are on my phone

My computer crashed so i bought a new one. I have all the contacts on my iPhone 4, but i am afraid if i try to sync it to the new computer it will erase all the data. Can someone please verify this for me.

Use your backup copy of your old computer to put everything on your new one.

  • How do i sync my nano 6th gen to a new computer when my old computer crashed

How do i sync my ipod nano 6th generation to my new computer if my old one is crashed?

This is one reason why maintaining a backup of all important data on your computer's hard drive is important stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only which should include your iTunes library.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod/iPhone/iPad, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPad connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPad.
Before syncing contacts and calendar events with an empty supported address book and calendar application, enter one contact in the address book and one calendar event in the calendar application on your computer. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
Photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync/transfer process is a one way transfer process only. Photos transferred from your computer are optimized for viewing on the iPad as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process - the original resolution of these photos is reduced. There are 3rd party paid utilities available that provide for transferring this data in the opposite direction with an iPhone, but if successful the original resolution of these photos will be lost in the process. Photos store on your computer's hard drive should be included with your computer's backup also.

  • My computer crashed and I have to get my data from my old drive to another computer, to ensure I get all my data what do I need to get.  I have and ipad and an iphone.  I need to get apps, contacts, pictures, etc.  Is there a way to do this?

My computer crashed and I have to get my data from my old drive to another computer, to ensure I get all my data what do I need to get.  I have and ipad and an iphone.  I need to get apps, contacts, pictures, etc.  Is there a way to do this? It was a vista pc and the new is win 7. I can grab the backup files, and music, but what about my apps? I do not want to sync on the new pc since the apps aren't there.  Were are the app files located in itunes? Can I just copy them to the new computer?

You can transfer itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • Itunes crashes when trying to sync Contacts

My itunes crashes when it tries to sync contacts with Outlook. I cannot even select the Contacts tab to change the settings. When I click the Contacts tab, itunes crashes. Has anyone experienced this problem?

    I'm experiencing the same problem.
A temporary fix is to open iTunes (without the iPod cabled into the computer.) Go to "Edit Preferences," then "Devices," and check the block that says "Disable automatic syncing..."
Then, attach the iPod USB cable. The iPod settings will all show up, but the iPod won't sync, and iTunes won't crash. You can then uncheck the block under the Contacts tab that says "Sync Contacts." (iTunes will ask you whether you want to save the existing contacts.)
Go back and uncheck the Disable automatic sync command. Tell iTunes to sync the iPod, and there shouldn't be an iTunes crash.
Admittedly, this is a bandaid until something better shows up. My suspicion is that it's a problem that originates with Outlook, and not iTunes.

  • OVI Suite crashed during contacts syncing

When it is syncing contacts, it crashed without any error messages.
    What is going on??
    I'm using Windows 7 64-bit
    OVI Suite Version: 3.0.0.282
    Phone Model: 5800XM
It also failed in syncing photos, it said [Photo not synced]
There was a problem with syncing your Photos. Try restarting your device and computer. If the problem persists, check if there is a new version of Nokia OVI Suite available. If not, try updating your device software.
I have done all of the above and still cant sync.

I too am having a crash when contacts are syncing using Ovi Suite 3.0.0.284 (latest) connecting to an E55.
Edit: After retrying repeatedly, contacts have synced without crashing (without changing the software or the data to be synced).

I'm afraid I have the same problem, repeatedly. I got an e-mail from Nokia suggesting that I un-install and re-install Ovi, including hidden files. And then I managed to re-snychronize with Outlook, but once, and once only. And now Ovi crashes when I try to synch with my Nokia, AND when I try to sync Ovi with Outlook. It's infuriating to see that this problem is not being properly addressed by Nokia. But encouraging to realize that I'm not alone, not just an idiot who can't work it out for myself!

My computer crashed and I had to install a new hard drive.  How to I install new software to use to manage my iPod Touch and sync to it and to Outlook?

Make sure you installed iTunes and set up your account.
Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

  • Computer crashed! Need to change sync settings!

My old Windows 7 computer crashed. On that computer was my iTunes and my iPhone 4 was synced to it.  Now I don't have a computer and I cant, sync music, movies, update software, or anything else.  It gives me 2 options when I connect it to my Friends computers, either erase all data and start over from this computer, or just change the iPhone.  I need to be able to change my settings on the phone so that when I get my new Windows 7 computer I don't have to start over.

Here's what you can do to save your settings and data to your friends computer until you have a new one, you'll have to repeat the procedure for your new computer.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to the new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing. Transfer your purchases by right clicking again, this time choosing "transfer purchases". When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards. Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
