Computer crashed. trying to play my itunes i reinstalled

My computer crashed and I had to wipe the whole thing out. I had backed my iTunes on a portable hard drive. I have updated everything I can. I moved my iTunes from my portable hard drive to iTunes. I see them there. When I click on a song to play I get this message. “Could not be used because the original file could not be found, would you like to locate it”. What do I need to do to be able to pay them?

open system preferences
open network pane
select airport in the left list
click the advanced button
go to the TCP/IP tab
set the configure IPv6 field to OFF.
click OK
click apply
now try again to connect to your remote speakers.

You definitely need to resurrect the old password associated with the Apple ID you used to purchase the music.

An email will be sent to the email address associated with that account with instructions regarding resetting that Apple ID's password.
If you no longer have access to that email, the resolution to this problem becomes considerably more difficult. In that event you would need to contact iTunes Support and explain your dilemma.

I was not complete clear.
Since you never changed the settings in the advanced section of iTunes preferecnes, you have to chech that your music is really in the location setted in the folders reported in the advanced section. If not you have 2 ways: reset the position of this folders or in the actual disk organisation or in the pointing on the preferences.
If you press the reset button you just give to itunes its default setting as for the position of the music files: probably this will be a good choice if you have never changed any default preference.
But before I would check the folders and see if the songs are really there

Ipod syncing is not one way. You just have to know what to do...
I can see you use windows. Connect ipod to pc, but don't install or dont open itunes - dont alow itunes to sync automaticly). Then open explorer, enable hidden files, open your ipod (as you would any disc) open hidden file with strange names and copy all of them on your new hard drive. Then drag all this strange-named files in your itunes...woooo...now those strange names become your songs...it is magick

AlexCarey, I've been having issues purchasing recently and place a number of calls to the support team. On Oct. 5th, and on my own decision, I went into my itunes profile and re-entered my credit card expiration date and security code. (Notice, it is not displayed for safety measures.) Today, I received an email from Apple support verifying if I made changes made to my account. For the heck of it, I logged back into itunes; click "Buy". Any music purchased through the iTunes store can be downloaded again for free as long as you are signed in with the Apple ID you used for the original purchase. Any other music you had in iTunes should be easily accessible in your system back up or from the CDs you ripped from originally.

My computer crashed a few weeks ago. I am trying to get the songs I purchased on my "old" computer that are now only on my iPod onto my "new" computer. I somehow was only able to transfer 3 songs that I had bought. I don't know how I could only transfer 3 and not the rest. Please help!

Were the songs all purchased from a single Store account or from more than one. If the songs were purchased under different accounts then you would need to authorise the computer for each one. Failing that there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists (including purchases) from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If the music on your iPod or iPhone was purchased from the iTunes Store, you can transfer the purchases to your iTunes library.
