Computer Crashes after Chrome Freezes
Hey There,
Macbook Aluminium Unibody 2008, running latest mavericks and SSD in place of disk drive.
Chrome crashes to 'Aw, Snap' page, randomly and doesnt occur every time or on the same page. May go a week without crashing or do it multiple times per day.
OSX returns this error:
Process: Google Chrome [595]
Path: /Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome
Identifier: com.google.Chrome
Version: 35.0.1916.153 (1916.153)
Code Type: X86 (Native)
Parent Process: launchd [199]
Responsible: Google Chrome [595]
User ID: 501
Date/Time: 2014-07-09 13:23:42.155 +1000
OS Version: Mac OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
Report Version: 11
Anonymous UUID: A0CA37D3-2F8B-58FC-3FD3-71C6A803F1DA
But also returns Google Chrome [380] on some occasions.
If reopen chrome (including not reopening tabs) immediately returns 'Aw, Snap' page and crashes without doing anything, returning the same errors.
Once chrome has crashed then Finder doesn't work properly, can't bring any dialogue box such as 'shut down' or 'restart' up. There are other issues but i think they are Finder related and not consistent.
When restarted, even if i close all other apps after the chrome crash, they will be open on restart. So I think that finder has sort of frozen their status of being open.
Have disabled any plugins I didn't know and updated chrome to latest version, still happening.
Any ideas? Help would be much appreciated!
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

My computer crashed after an attempt to upgrade to Yosemite. I can't quit the installer and my MacBook keeps on restarting
I Have a 2008 Macbook Pro 15". It was running issue free until I upgraded to Yosemite. Now my logic board is fried and apple will not fix it. It started with mail accounts unable to send mail, just had to delete accounts and re- install to fix that. But, at the same time as the download, I started intermittently getting a green tint over the screen along with a snowy static like an old TV set. Fearing that my download was corrupt, I re- installed Yosemite over-writing the previous version . The green haze kept coming and going, but I also started getting strobe style white flashes in boxes in the 4 corners of my monitor. I had to do power button forced shutdowns because of pointer and keyboard function failure. Apple Genius desk told me it appeared to be a logic board failure but my computer was too old for them to work onand referred me to a Mac Specialist Center. I was told by both places that Apple installed defective logic boards back then due to changing solder formula. They extended product warranty by adding 1 yr but that still expired in 2012. I tried to post a warning on Mac Forums twice about Yosemite being a poison pill to certain platforms and my posts were pulled. The second attempt was responded to in my personal email account stating that if I don't stop posting derogatory comments, I will be blocked from forum. I am just trying to insert warnings in posts where I can. They haven't discovered that yet. Spread the word!

Desktop computer crashes after sleep mode since upgrade to Snow Leopard
Since I upgraded my power Mac to Snow Leopard in December, I've had nothing but problems, all of which appear to stem from when it comes out of sleep mode. This computer and all applications were rock solid in Leopard! I also have a mac book running identical programs and that IS rock solid on Snow Leopard. I have a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon processor with 10 GB ram.
I did a complete re-install of SL and all programs as per the Apple instructions.
Basically, the computer crashes after sleep mode. I've tried all the fixes I've read on the net. Here is the report thread from the last crash. Does it mean anything or throw any light on the problem to anyone?
Thanks,
David Wright

The problem has been identified as the RME fireface400 audio driver. I've spent some considerable time experimenting to identify the culprit. It's clear that this is what is causing all my problems since Snow Leopard. Whether it's exclusively the drivers fault or partly also due to a conflict with apple SL, I don't know, but I have crash reports if apple want to see them.
From your first post, it appears you are using Fireface audio driver version 2.64. RME released a new Snow Leopard compatible driver (version 2.65) last December. It is available at RME: Downloads. (There is also a firmware updater for the Fireface 400 there, which you might want to check out.)
It isn't at all unusual for a new OS version to require new drivers for third party hardware. References to this can be found all over the web, in "read me" files & other documentation, etc. -- it doesn't just apply to OS X but to Windows & other OS's as well. (One of the biggest problems with Vista was poor third party driver support.) In fact, the X-Lab "Resolving Kernel Panics" article specifically cautions users to make sure all such drivers are current. See section 6.1 of that article for more details.
I don't know if you missed all this somehow, but if you haven't already downloaded & installed the new RME driver (& possibly the firmware update as well), then do so now. While you are at it, check for other similar updates for any other third party hardware devices you use, using the info in section 6.1 of the X-Lab article as a guide.
Hopefully, this will resolve your issue, which (as already mentioned) is kernel panics, not crashes. If you still have problems, post more about them, being mindful of the difference between application crashes & kernel panics. Because they are fundamentally different, they have different cures, so we will need to know which type they are to offer effective help. -
Computer Crashes after 1.1.1 update??
Has anyones computer crashed after update???
heres wat happen to me!
First i got errors -48. Called Apple had to create new user account to on my computer to work around it. then logged back in to my user account and got error -50 that said unable to sync!
I go to restart my computer hoping that would fix it. It wont restart!!! I push the power button and it makes the little sound and u hear the disc drive then the screen turns gray and stays gray and doesnt do anything else!!!
Whats going on!!!Well the first thing I thought of was device driver problems, and there is a lot of that being reported here, although I've never seen it reported on a MAC system. I would still say though that it has something to do with your system setup, exactly what unknown, you'd have to troubleshoot that yourself, sorry, but it could be lots of things and you would know your system better than anyone else. I can tell you one thing though, I use my iPhone on my MAC, Vista 32b, and XP PRO with no problems at all. So it's got to be something inherent in your system. USB ports can be flakey on MAC's as well as windows systems, so the first thing I would do is unplug all existing USB devices, accept keyboard/mouse, and try to proceed from there.
I would also try to ignore the idiots that only want to post things like OOOooopppsss.

Computer crashed after installing new itunes version
My laptop just crashed after installing the new 9.0.2 upgrade. Upon reboot I received a dos screen that said my computer shut down due to a recent download and asked if I wanted to reboot in safe mode or normal mode. I chose to reboot normally and the computer would not boot. Now my laptop won't power up at all. Is there anything I can do, or has itunes killed my laptop??
Please help me ! I don't understand why I had to restore to factory settings and then when I tried to re-sync it kept telling me iTunes is not working. Why ??

Computer crashed after Lightroom 4 Installation
I purchased the Lightroom 4 upgrade online from Adobe a couple of days ago and installed it on my laptop. The software seemed to be working at first, but a few hours later, my computer crashed. Upon reboot, my computer would crash again shortly thereafter (LR was open on my computer but minimized). Now my laptop will not turn on at all. I'm using an HP Pavilion m7-1015dx laptop with Windows 7. I just purchased this laptop last fall and have had NO issues with it until I installed the Lightroom 4 upgrade. My Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS4 software had been working fine as well up to that point. Obviously I have to take my computer in to get it fixed, but I am not sure that I am willing to try to install this software again and rish another crash. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Yiour reaction is basically the same as refusing to give somebody a ride in your car because someone ran into you last time you gave them a ride. The person did not cause the crash, and Lightroom cannot prevent your hardware from booting.
If your computer only crashed every time you tried to start Lightroom then that would be food for thought, even then it could be a memory DIMM going bad, because LR can be more memory intensive than many other apps. But you are apparently experiencing hardware failure. It happens occasionally, even with the best hardware. How far do you get in the boot process before it crashes, and how is the crash manifested? -
for the second time in a yearish, following download my computer crashed and burned.four attempts to reinstall maverick resulted in a semi-working computer but my back up disc trashed and working files seem lost.Anybody else get this problem and how regularly or is it a selective event?
gerryIt is not safe to publish your email address in an open forum, so I've asked the hosts to remove them. Your post is here for anyone to see and if someone has a solution, they will post an answer, so there is no need for an email address.

Computer Crashes after Ram upgrade
I have a new powerbook (serial # W8544xxxxxx) with the new video card, screen resolution, etc. The system came with 512mb DDR2 ram, and I recently bought another stick of 512 at Newegg.
Now it recognizes it in the system fine, but the computer seems to crash when the computer heats up. When I run processor intensive applications, it will either just freeze or freeze and slowly turn the entire screen white. This happened right after I installed the Ram, never had a problem before.
Is this another part of the lower memory slot problems I've been hearing about?
This is the ram I bought : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227106
The ram works great, until the computer heats up, then it's all downhill.
Any help would be appreciated.
ThanksWelcome to the Apple discussions.
What you're seeing is typical of inexpensive RAM. While RAM may meet the stated DDR2 specs, not all will work with they way Apple's architecture uses the memory. This isn't, btw, limited to the series of PB you own.
Crucial, Kingston (not Valueram line), and Samsung are 3 memory brands that consistently perform well in our PB's. Crucial, for example, guarantees their memory will work if chosen off their memory selector on their web site. You can scan the discussions for other brands that people have found worked, too.
Crucial is at http://www.crucial.com
Kingston is at http://www.kingston.com
Samsung is available from a number of sources, one being OWC at http://www.macsales.com -
Computer crashes after turning on
Hello, I recently bought a computer just over 1 1/2 years old and when I turn on the computer it starts up with this screen saying that all USB ports have a device detected but I don't have any devices. The only option is to continue, then when I continue you with the black screen with white text, the computer says that your computer configuration has been incorrectly configured and it comes with the option, Run Windows Normally and Launch the computer with repair setup. Then after I press either one. The activity light on the computer just stops and turns off and then the computer freezes in which I have to press the Power On/Off button to do anything. When the computer normallyh worked the Tower would slowly make a low growl noise but now when I turn it on it sounds like the computer is on full drive and is working as fast and as hard as possible. Its really loud when I turn it on now ever since it stopped working. I found it frozen when I woke up this morning because I left it on during the night to do a virus scan which is daily at midnight and to download a game.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you,
Jimmy TranTo me, it sounds like it could be an overheating issue, possibly, if it shuts itself off. That or your installation of Windows became corrupted.
Honestly, this is one that I'd have to see in person to determine what's wrong with it and I'd recommend taking it in for a diagnostic.
If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun. -
Crashes with Chrome, Freezing with Quicktime, youtube.
So I was using CleanMyMac2, which now is unable to work properly as well and crashes, to remove some files from the Uninstaller -> Leftovers. I have a feeling that one of these leftovers was important because now CleanMyMac cannot properly load anything, and freezes. When I try to log into my VK account (its kind of like facebook) it freezes and crashes chrome. I get this error log:

Hi
I hope someone can help me as am at a loss on what is wrong. Trying to connect my iphone to computer to sync but all it does when I connect it is crash the system completely. Black screen with writing which doesn't stay on long enough for me to read what to do! Its a 3G iphone and had no problems on my old computer. This computer has Windows XP as did my old one so can't figure out why it wont have anything to do with this phone.
Has anyone got any ideas please? Am at my wits end and now wishing had my old computer back!
ThanksWhen you connect a new computer to your network the DHCP service of your router will assign it an IP address, which may or may not be the same as the IP address assigned to your old computer. This, however, only effects networking and wouldn't have anything to do with a USB connection. You do need to be running Windows XP SP2 or later (XP SP3 for iTunes 10.6) and your USB ports must be USB 2.0 to support the iPhone 3G so you may want to be sure your computer meets these minimum system requirements. You might also want to try:
Using a different USB to dock connector cable
Connecting to a different USB port on your computer
Gently cleaning the dock connector on the bottom of the phone with a dry toothbrush
Ensuring that your case isn't interferring with the cable connection to the dock connector on the bottom of your phone -
Computer crashes after cd is burned
I have iTunes installed on my Windows XP computer. For some odd reason when I burn a playlist to a disc, my computer will come up with a blue screen soon afterwards telling me that Windows had an error and that a physical memory dump was beginning. I've had iTunes versions and have upgraded regularly. I just upgraded to 5.0 hoping that the problem would be resolved. It is not. Now, the cd that I burn works fine everytime. I've read other posts saying that the cd didn't burn. I can burn cd's, I just have to reset my computer everytime. When it does restart Windows tells me that it just recovered from a "fatal error" so I send an error report and Windows tells me that it is a driver error, but it doesn't know which one. I've really enjoyed iTunes, but hate that this happens. Please help! Thanks
JonathanI have the same problem. I have a brand new HP Pavillion ZD8000 laptop that is fully loaded and it has been doing it since I got it back in March. I have a feeling that it has something to do with the fact that Roxio and Sonic are installed. I have not removed either yet, but I am thinking about it. I find it strange that disk finishes and as it spins down the error pops every fracking time. I have no problem burning disc after disk with Roxio to make my audio discs.

Computer crash after waking from sleep
Anytime my computer wakes from sleep mode, it crashes and restarts by itself. Any solutions? I am running OSX Mavericks 10.9.1 on a brand spankin new 27" iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7. Never had this problem before upgrading to Mavericks.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic report (with a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic") under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as a hang report. -
Installing upgrade to G5 and computer crashes after 20-30 mins. Any advice?
BACKSTORY: I have a slow running G5 (2nd generation 2005). It came with the standard two 512 MB chips. When I upgraded my Abode programs to CS3 I notes problems. After being pin ponged from Adobe & Apple support I was told to upgrade my memory. After weeks of calls & talking with the Genius Bar guys I was directed to a site to get memory for my G5 [because Apple no longer carried the upgradable memory].
WHAT I DID: I order and got four 1GB Memory sticks and added them to my system. [All installed with no problems and correctly.] Which when turned back on caused applications to fail and the screen to turn gray and ask for manual shutdown. This happened five times.
MORE PROBLEMS: I called the support hot-line {for crucial.com] after I tried safe re-starts, Disk Utility and going through the painful shutdown/ start up with different combinations of the new memory sticks. The tech asked me to do a few more checks. Sometimes I'd get 20 mins before the system locked up and I had to manually restart. One guy said it may be a timing issue- memory good but the computer can't process at the right level. He said that nothing could be done, but that possibility was no unlikely unless my board was fried. Finally, I've returned the memory and and am waiting for replacements. I'm back to the 512 MB sticks and everything is okay, just really slow.
QUESTION: Does this sound familiar to anyone?? I am having no luck with any tech support people. If so what did you do. PLEASE HELP!!! Other than working really slow the G5 is actually a great machine.
Too bad Apple is too busy with iPods and not making better towers upgrades. Sorry, that comment was just mean.If the replacement chips don't work I'll check out the site. Thanks!. Its cheaper too.
