Computer crashes when I plug my iPod in.

Location: PA
Hey guys, I was wondering if you could give me a hand.
Every time I plug my iPod into the computer, the computer restarts and won't start back up, as in it'll get past the Windows symbol loading screen and restart again.
Do any of you have any idea on what to do?
I've already tried using a different USB cable and a plugging it into a different USB port.
Thanks in advance.

seriously? not one single person knows?

  • Bought app in order to sync itunes with a blackberry playbook.  Now Itunes will open on my computer but when i plug  my ipods in to charge or sync, itunes is not showing that they are plugged in. Cant charge or anything!

Obviously not too smart with all this technology.  I puchased a Blackberry Playbook Tablet and wanted to sync my itunes music, so following directions on the Playbook, I downloaded this app - Daniel Bingham Itunes sync - and when I went to my pc, I pulled it up, plugged in my Playbook and it did sync all my music from my Itunes library to the Playbook.  However, now when I plug an ipod in my pc to charge or sync more music, my pc is not showing it recognizes any of my ipods being plugged in.  It makes no mention of any of my ipods being connected!  I also keep getting this "Found New Hardware Wizard" box that keeps popping up everytime I plug an ipod in - it originally showed up when I had Playbook plugged in to download all its info (I think) but it never completes, saying not compatible - so I click cancel. I have since clicked on remove New found hardware but it still pops up. Why does it continue to show with every Ipod now?  Any idea on what I can do to repair this situation?  Please help!

  • Why does my computer crash when I plug in my ipod touch?

My computer crashes as soon as I plug in my USB cable into the computer.

    More information:
The last event before it shuts down:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000050 (0xb5a9f897, 0x0000000, 0xf89788e4, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini08009-09.dmp.
Can I stop this "bugcheck" from happening again?

Since the update, everytime i plug my ipod nano 4th generation. Itunes crashes

    Nutnbolt:
We need to get a crash log file to see where it's crashing. In order to get a crash log on Vista, you will need to enable crash logging.
Important: These steps involve making changes to the Windows registry using the Registry Editor (Regedit). Even if you are very comfortable editing the registry, you should make a backup of the registry prior to editing it. Making mistakes in Regedit can cause strange behavior and can even prevent Windows from starting. Look here for instructions on how to back up your registry in Windows Vista:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756
    1. Open the Windows Start menu.
    2. Type regedit in the search field and click OK.
    3. In Registry Editor, navigate to HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Apple Computer, Inc.\iTunes
    4. Right-click on the iTunes folder and choose New > DWORD Value.
    5. Name the new value "GenerateCrashLogs" without the quotation marks and press Enter.
    6. Right-click GenerateCrashLogs and choose Modify.
    7. Change Value data from 0 to 1.
    8. Click OK.
Now, when iTunes crashes, a crash log file will be created. A message will appear telling you where to find the crash log file. Please email me that file, and make sure to include a link to this thread and the username you are using on Discussions.

  • My iPod is Causing my PC to crash when I plug the iPod Touch in.

I've plugged my iPod Touch into my laptop (USB) port and it immediately caused my laptop to crash.
I allowed the PC to reboot and tried again in a different port with the same results.
Any suggestions as what may be the problem.
Never had a hint before that this might happen.
The iPod is only 2 months old.
    Thanks.

Thanks again for your interest in my problem AndrewT.
    Ok you mentioned three things:
    1. Uninstalling the ACER camera.
    2. latest version of iTunes and
    3. Printer.
Regarding the uninstalling the camera - I haven't done that but worth a try. When I initially plug the iPod in it comes up as a camera (not as an iPod as it should do). I don't use the camera a lot so maybe thats the way to try and see what happens.
Regarding the latest version of iTunes - yes I've got that no problem and regarding the printer - seldom used and hasn't been used since well before this problem came about.
I'm getting more convinced that its a Microsoft Update that's causing it. I read somewhere about this but can't remember where now.
I had to again reload all the software because of other problems i.e. back to original recovery, so while loading the new software I tried the iPod touch and yes it worked. However, with all reloading of sofware there was the usual updating and after loading a number of these updates together I tried again and as expected the blue screen again.
Needless to say I'm rather frustrated at this outcome but won't give up as yet.
Thanks for your continued interest. Maybe between us we'll get it solved. It doesn't appear that others have this problem and Apple Support have never heard of it.

  • My computer crashes when trying to sync ipod touch...HELP!

My whole computer crashes without warning - just powers off, usually when I am transferring a CD into iTunes. But, it will do it at other times as well. If there is an error message - I do not see it as it happens too fast. I just downloaded iTunes last week and started having this problem right away. Any solutions yet? I have the 80gb iPods, although this happens whether or not they are connected.

+But, it will do it at other times as well. If there is an error message - I do not see it as it happens too fast.+
We'd better check for a hidden blue screen, then.
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
Now try to provoke another crash.
With those settings in place, does a blue screen appear before the PC reboots?
If so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x\[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
If the blue screen mentions a specific file (for example, “ati3duag.dll”), let us know what that is called too. (Exact spelling, please.)

  • My Computer crashes when I plusg my Ipod

Yesterday, I've updates my Itunes, and then my IPOD video (30Gb) to the latest versions. Since then, each time i plug my IPOD into a USB port (any of them), the computer freezes, and I can do nothing but manually rebooting the computer. My USB ports seem to work with other USB devices.
Any idea of what could go wrong?
I can not sync or even charge the battery of my IPOD anymore.
    Thanks a lot.

I have this same problem. I have ever since I got my iPod a couple of years ago. I have a 10g iPod, and sometimes I can get my computer to take the iPod, but most of the time it won't. When I plug in the iPod it will start up iTunes for a couple of seconds, then my computer will restart its self. This happens over and over. I wish I knew why it does this...very frustrating. Hope someone can help us!!

  • My computer crashes when I connect my iPod via usb

I have a number of iPods. 120GB iPod classic is my main one. Have used it on the same Windows XP for a number of years. I sync on average 1-2 times a week. All of a sudden when I connect via USB the computer crashes. Same thing happens with my other iPods. Tried different USB ports. Same thing. Have tried other USB devices, no problem.
Have upgraded to latest version of iTunes. Same problem.
It appears the issue is with the Apple USB driver....? Just wondering if someone has seen this problem and has a work around for it.

  • IMac crashes when I plug my iPod in!

    Hello,
Seems that 10.6 might be causing some trouble for many of you out there and perhaps I am one of them. Currently, I am unable to plug in my iPod Touch nor my mouse into the USB ports in the back. Doing so will cause the computer to restart. This has happened both in OS 10.6 and using Boot Camp.
However, I am able to plug my iPod Shuffle into the USB ports on the keyboard no problem. What I have done so far is used Disk Utility to Verify and the Repair Disk Permissions. This takes a long time and each time I've done it, I get a lot of repairs going on; many in the "System/Library/Java" category. And not all of these are able to be repaired. (At least not for the last time Disk Utility ran.)
So do any of you have suggestions? Reading the forums, it seems like a lot of people are blaming 6.6 for their troubles. Well, my computer has started acting hinky over the past couple/three months but I couldn't pin it exactly to the latest update.
    Thanks.
    Brian

Try to narrow it down even further. Disconnect everything, including the keyboard, and add things back one at a time, keyboard last.
The built-in hubs of keyboards have been known to be wonky. It is possible that for some reason it (or another peripheral device) is drawing too much power.

  • Computer crashes when i plug in my ipod...

If you can help at all please let me know. I have protection on my computer but...i suspose it could be a virus. All i did was restore it and since then it wouldnt come back up and now it shuts down my computer when the "AutoPlay" file comes up to find it. No way around plugging it in without it turning off my cpu. Unless you have a way. Any susgestions?

Are you getting any sort of blue screen just prior to the PC rebooting? If so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x\[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)

If you're not seeing a blue screen (or if you’re just seeing a flash of a blue screen before the PC reboots), we can use the following technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
With those settings in place, does a blue screen appear before the PC reboots?
