Computer Crashing When Sleeping
My mid-2009 MacbookPro has been crashing almost every time it sleeps by itself or I close its lid. Checking online forums and my Console Application, I have noticed that every crash is preceded by a mdworker process hang.
Another interesting symptom is how I have to turn the computer on again: the fans and the hard drive are still running, so I have to keep the power button pressed until I stop hearing any sound from the computer. Only then can I turn the computer back again normally by pressing the power button again.
I also notice that after logging in and receiving a "Your computer shut down because of a problem," Spotlight is running an indexing operation.
Mdworker, Spotlight's process, is very likely the cause of my random crashes, and I would appreciate a solutionto these hangs.
The most recent crash was a few minutes ago:

I just got mine last December (2012) and I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM.
I called Apple Customer Service and Took it to the apple store too yesterday.
The Senior manager on the phone basically told me "It's a machine. It's like buying a car. It breaks."
And the guy in the apple store? He confirmed that he saw the shutdowns on loghog(?) but told me that since I was over the 14 day period of warranty, when they find what's wrong with it, they'll replace it.. with used parts. Awesome customer service huh?
I just wrote down my whole experience, my MBP is still at the store, I'll update in my thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21291717#21291717) once I find out how it goes! Hope we get this fixed. And soon!

Desktop computer crashes after sleep mode since upgrade to Snow Leopard
Since I upgraded my power Mac to Snow Leopard in December, I've had nothing but problems, all of which appear to stem from when it comes out of sleep mode. This computer and all applications were rock solid in Leopard! I also have a mac book running identical programs and that IS rock solid on Snow Leopard. I have a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon processor with 10 GB ram.
I did a complete re-install of SL and all programs as per the Apple instructions.
Basically, the computer crashes after sleep mode. I've tried all the fixes I've read on the net. Here is the report thread from the last crash. Does it mean anything or throw any light on the problem to anyone?
Thanks,
David Wright

The problem has been identified as the RME fireface400 audio driver. I've spent some considerable time experimenting to identify the culprit. It's clear that this is what is causing all my problems since Snow Leopard. Whether it's exclusively the drivers fault or partly also due to a conflict with apple SL, I don't know, but I have crash reports if apple want to see them.
From your first post, it appears you are using Fireface audio driver version 2.64. RME released a new Snow Leopard compatible driver (version 2.65) last December. It is available at RME: Downloads. (There is also a firmware updater for the Fireface 400 there, which you might want to check out.)
It isn't at all unusual for a new OS version to require new drivers for third party hardware. References to this can be found all over the web, in "read me" files & other documentation, etc. -- it doesn't just apply to OS X but to Windows & other OS's as well. (One of the biggest problems with Vista was poor third party driver support.) In fact, the X-Lab "Resolving Kernel Panics" article specifically cautions users to make sure all such drivers are current. See section 6.1 of that article for more details.
I don't know if you missed all this somehow, but if you haven't already downloaded & installed the new RME driver (& possibly the firmware update as well), then do so now. While you are at it, check for other similar updates for any other third party hardware devices you use, using the info in section 6.1 of the X-Lab article as a guide.
Hopefully, this will resolve your issue, which (as already mentioned) is kernel panics, not crashes. If you still have problems, post more about them, being mindful of the difference between application crashes & kernel panics. Because they are fundamentally different, they have different cures, so we will need to know which type they are to offer effective help. -
I recently got an iphone5. Ever since I have downloaded my iphone pictures to my photo gallery on my PC, my computer crashes when i'm in photo gallery. Any suggestions? I also downloaded itunes as well as icloud when I got my iphone5.
No, your iPhone and your iPad should not appear in the finder.
I'm not sure what you mean about downloading photos with iPhoto being double handling, but you can download direct to a folder with Image Capture. Image Capture can also be used to delete photos from the Camera Roll on the iPhone or iPad (preferrably after they are downloaded).
You can remove the photos you synced from your phone with iTunes by syncing again with an empty folder, That will delete all the photos that were previously synced that way, replacing them with the contents of the empty folder (that is, nothing). This will not effect photos takes with the camera on your iPhone. -
My computer crashes when I try to export from iMovie. What is the problem.
Why does my computer crash when I try to export it?
Does it happen with different iMovie projects or does it keep doing it with the same one? Might be a corrupt movie file.
Do you have iLife 11 on disc? If so you might try reinstalling iMovie and try it again, first without updating anything, and if that works then try updating and see if the problem comes back. It could also just be that iMovie is corrupt. -

Computer crash when Launching Xsplit
As the topic says the computer crashes when I try to Launch Broadcaster. I don't use Gamecaster as I like Broadcaster better, but it crashes on both anyway.
I have the GT72 2QE, all drivers updated, Xsplit updated. You can check if there is any third-party software which might cause the conflict first .

I book g4 crashing when sleeping
lately, although i recently have had both the logic board and hard drive replaced, my ibook g4 has been crashing when i leave it sleeping. it is unresponsive and i have to manually turn off the computer. when i try to restart a gray screen with a flashing file/question mark appears. i have to manually turn it off and on again and/or leave it to rest for a while before it will work again. i have re-installed/archived following the advice of the local genius bar guy, but that hasn't seemed to help as it continues to crash when i leave it sleeping. also, it has happened a few times recently that the computer just shuts off in the middle of an application session, and will not respond at all to pressing the power button. i thought for sure that my computer was dead the first time it did this, but after leaving it a few hours it responded to pressing the power button. luckily i have everything backed up, but my applecare runs out in a few months and i am afraid that i will be left with a non-functional ibook. can anyone advise me on this, or should i petition apple to replace my ibook?
I used to have this problem if i left an app open, it would crash on wake up.
Not the right thing to do but i turned the sleep option off in the power management and all is fine now. Verify all your permissions in the disc utility before you call Apple, as this is one of the first things they suggest. -
when i close my computer for when i'm switching rooms after i had it closed for maybe from like 2-10 minz when i open the screen the macbook is very unresponsive. some times i had to press the return button multiple and now since it seems to crash i can't do anything except to hold down the power button for like 8 seconds so i can restart the computer. is there an update that i didn't download yet? i haven't had this problem before. i was thinking that it could be that i had like multiple programs running and i only have 512mb of ram. soon i'm getting a 1gb stick so maybe that will help. thanks for you help everyone!

Computer crashes when trying to burn a cd in itunes
I have read many threads on this error 4280 but mine seems a little different. Every time I try and burn a cd from songs in my library something bad happens. I have had my computer crash several times. One time it crashed and then went into a scandisc mode. Once it crashed and then when my computer restarted everything that was supposed to load at startup had errors and wouldn't load. Yesterday, I tried to burn a cd again. This time I used only music that I had ripped from my own cd's through itunes. I have authorized my computer yet it said it wouldn't burn any of them because none of the songs were authorized? They are my songs, from my cd's! A few weeks ago I tried the same thing and it wouldn't burn the tracks because it said 2 of the tracks weren't authorized. Again, they were all ripped from my cd collection, not downloaded. I decided to restart my computer and try again. Same problem but this time it selected 2 different songs as the ones that weren't authorized. I am having serious issues with itunes crashing my computer. Anyone else have problems like this? I am using itunes 7.6?
Thanks,
TWindows computer (as it says in your profile) or Mac (the forum in which you posted)?

COMPUTE CRASHES WHEN PROCESSING LARGE FILES
As far as basic operations, my G4 is running smoothly.
However, whenever I need it to process significant files, such as exporting a 30minute video from FCP as a Quicktime movie, or using Compressor to encode an .M2V file, the computer crashes. Basically, if any task is going to take longer than fifteen minutes to complete, I know my computer won't make it.
Thus far I've done a fresh install of the system software, reinstalled all applications, trashed prefs, run the pro application updtates, run disk utility, played with my work flow (internal vs. external drives), etc.
I wonder if perhaps my processor is failing, if I need more memory (though my 768MB exceeds application minimum requirements), or if perhaps these G4s just aren't adequately equipped to run the newer pro application versions.
Thanks in advance for any advice.I can't pull the dimm out due to the fact that I need a certain amount of memory installed to be able to run the software in the first place.
I've run the hardware test disc that came with my computer and it has not detected any problems.
I don't think heat is the issue as, according to the Temperature Monitor utility I downloaded, my computer remains consistant at around 58 degrees, even when performing difficult processes.
According to my activity Monitor, when I'm processing one of these larger files, I'm using as much as 130% of the cpu, but it also can remains as low as 10% for extended periods. Both seem odd.
Any thoughts?

Can i set iPHOTO to manually sync?
Is there any way to set my sync options so that the phone doesn't automatically open iPhoto and sync it? I rarely have photos that need syncing -- so I'd rather do it manually. thanks.
