Computer created wifi network issue

I am trying to get wifi to work on my iphone using a mac-mini created computer-to-computer network. The mini is the only thing using an internet connection in the house, so I do not have a wireless router, just a cable modem plugged into the mini. Realizing that I need wifi to do a few things that i would like to do with my iphone (use the remote app, browse itunes store, etc.) i created a network from the computer and joined it on the iphone. The iphone says it is connected to the new network, but seems to only use 3g on safari and other apps - anything using wifi does not see a connection.
Is the problem based on my created network or am I another one of the seemingly endless amount of people with wifi problems?

I didn't realize that the problem has been solved already, i didn't see the other posts. never mind this then. sorry.
Hi there,
You don't have a problem or anything, there is just a setting that you need to turn on so that you can get the internet working on your iphone through the wireless network.
1. Open System Preferences
2. Click on Sharing (under Internet & Network)
3. Click on Internet Sharing on the left hand side
4. Make sure that you choose "Ethernet" from the drop-down menu for "Share your connection from:"
5. Then check "Airport" in the box below.
6. Check the "Internet Sharing" box on the left hand side, and you are ready to go.
Optional
6. If you want, you can set a password for you wireless network from the "Airport Options" button.
I hope that helps!

  • How do I share wifi data between iMac and windows based computer on wifi network?

I have an unsecured wifi network at home and need to easily share photos between computers>  I have an iMac and a couple window based computer> Is ther an easy way instead of using a thumb drive?

Since photos are typically large files it will probably be quicker with the thumb drive. The other way is to set up sharing where the files are located and directing the other computers to look there.

  • Can ATV "create" WiFi network

    Gents
I'm thinking of getting an ATV and I'm wondering if it is capable of creating a WiFi network? Currently my modem plugs into an AX (via ethernet switch) which creates my home WiFi. The AX has optical out to AV receiver. As I effectively won't need the AX for audio duties, can I drop it altogether and use ATV as my Wifi hub?

the appletv is not a router/hub or wifi extender.
it is a client device and requires you to connect it to your existing network.

  • IOS 5.1 Created Intermittent Networking Issues - Log Bug?

I've been putting up with this defect ever since I switched over to the iOS 5.1.  Having used iPhone since the original first-gen 16GB release (and 3 generations of iPhones after that) and not ever seeing this problem I'm quite sure of the timeframe of this change.  I'd like to log a bug but it seems as if you can only do this if you're registered as an apple developer... is there another way?  Although this issue isn't reproducible it occurs often enough that I see it at least a few times a week.  The details of the problem are:
    1. Network connectivity seems to drop permanently when trying to use the EDGE/3G/4G network in areas where the the signal strength is weak (this seems to be the trigger for the issue).
    2. Resolving the issue requires either rebooting the iPhone or toggling Airplane Mode.
Other factors that my influence this:
    1. I'm using AT&T's network so that may have a bearing on this particular issue.
    2. I'm not switching to a wifi network while doing this- so it seems exclusively tied to the AT&T data network.  However, I'd imagine that the bug may rear its head because the iPhone tries to switch to a wifi network when it doesn't see the data network available- note: I don't think the wifi dialog pops up when this happens so this is just speculation on my part.
    3. I saw this start happening after upgrading to the 5.1 but not immediately after upgrading, but pretty soon afterwards.  So, there could still be something else causing this- I provided the version 5.1 info because that may help Apple to try to figure out what changes introduced this problem so they can limit the scope of their investigation into this issue.
NOTE: I'm pretty sure this isn't hardware specific or specific to my phone.  A friend has encountered the same issue.  He told me that he works around the problem by toggling Airplane Mode (at the time I was rebooting my phone all the time which was pretty tedious).  He saw the issue start happening around the same time I did.
    Thanks!

I figured out how to log the bug, so I've done that here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
However, I'd still be interested if anyone else sees this problem and any other information that they can provide on it- i.e.
    1. did it also seem to correlate with iOS 5.1 for them?
    2. is it AT&T specific?
    3. is it iPhone 4 & 4S specific or does it apply to older iPhones running iOS 5.1?
    4. is it only specific apps that access the data network (I regularly use Newsify, Mobile RSS, Flipboard so one of these may be causing the problem if it isn't a general networking issue)

  • Windows 10 wifi network issues

Since the upgrade from 8.1 to Windows 10 my wifi has been constantly connecting, limited connection, dropping wifi.Running the troubleshooter simply resets and say the dns gateway could not be found.  1 minute later, it goes back through the cycle.Take a look at a small portion of the event viewer. I can ONLY connect to the internet via ethernet.  Using a wifi donlge (stolen from my Raspberry Pi) gives me the same results - it worked fine for about an hour then all comms appeared to stop. I have forgotten my wifi network and reconnected.I have reset my router and updated to the latest firmware.I have uninstalled my wifi driver (RealTek RTL8188EE), rebooted and let it reinstall. I'm tearing my hair out and considering going back to 8.1 - WHY should Windows 10 break my wifi??

  • Home Wifi Network Issue using Airport and 2 BT Hub...

I'm having problems getting my home network set up without IP conflicts.  Any advice much appreciated...
    Here's what I've currently got:
    BT Broadband Unlimted
Hub 2.0 connected to broadband line - wireless network switched off
Apple Airport Time Capsule connected to Hub 2.0 by WAN cable (Airport running in Bridge mode)
Various Apple devices (MBP, iMac, iPhones, iPads, iPod), PS3 and Sony Surround Sound connected to Airport with wifi.
Wifi extender connected to Airport by wifi (obviously) for upstairs - PS3 and occassionally MBP connected to that)
Ethernet cable from Airport to a Hub 1.5 in the Garden Office with MBP and HP Printer then connected to Hub 1.5 with wifi.
HDD connected to Airport with USB cable.
Everything was working fine until I ran the ethernet cable to the office and connected the Hub 1.5.  It worked fine in the office, wifi connected, I could see the internet and the Airport and the connected HDD.
However, at this point, the iMac back in the house, which connects to the Airport wifi network, sometimes connects to the internet, sometimes doesn't.  It connected to the Wifi fine, just won't connect to the Internet. It was stopping at the Hub2.0 "Default Gateway" (according to traceroute).  Switching wifi networks on the iMac (e.g. Airport 2.5Ghz to Airport 5GHz, or Airport to FON or Airport to the Office Wifi) fixes the internet connection problem, until next time I try to connect.
This only affects the iMac.  The MBPs, iPhones etc have no problems connecting to wither wifi or the Internet...
I figured it must be an IP addressing problem due to the Hub1.5 conflicting with the IP address range configured for the Hub2.0, so I tried to re-configure this on the Hub1.5 in the Office.
However, to get to the Hub Manager, I had to disconnect the Ehternet cable (otherwise it just went to the Hub2.0 Hub Manager).  Once I did this and reset the Hub1.5 to factory settings, I could see the Hub1.5 Manager.  However, if I click on Advanced and enter the password (after restting it with the SN) I can't see any of the advances menu options in the left hand panel (e.g. IP Addresses).  So I can't change the IP address range.
Any ideas how I can get to see the IP Address options on the Hub1.5?
I also tried setting a static IP address on the iMAC, but it won't let me - just says IP address already in use when I try to change it to one in the range set on the Hub2.
Worse thing is, now that I've reset the Hub1.5, the Internet connection keeps dropping on that as well now.  It works fine for a few minutes then drops and I have to turn wifi off and on again, or disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable to get the Internet to connect again, then it drops after a few minutes.
So, I've gone from the iMac not working to the iMac and the office hub1.5 not working properly, and all I've really done is reset the hub1.5 to factory settings...
Shall I just get rid of the 1.5 and buy a different wifi router for the office?
Should I be able to change the IP address range on the 1.5?
    Any other ideas?
Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried running the TC not in bridge mode?
In airport utility, instead of selecting bridge mode, select share a public ip address. You will get an advisory warning from the TC but just opt to ignore it.
This way all of the DHCP is handled by the TC and the HH1.5 and none by the HH2.
Otherwise a replacement for the HH1.5 might be called for - perhaps and airport extreme.

  • Ideacentre b305 wifi networking issue

Well I just purchased a (used from a retailer) Lenovo ideacentre B305, everything seemed to work fine in the store(including wifi). I take my new computer home and I can not connect to wifi. I have tried troubleshooting the issue but everything tells me to plug in a network cable. I looked in the device manager and I can not find a wifi device, only a bluetooth and ethernet.
When the computer starts up I see the wifi symbol for a short time but it goes away and says no network connections are available.
I have once been able to get it to connect to my home network but in doing so I lost connection to my bluetooth mouse and keyboard. When I got my bluetooth mouse and keyboard back, I lost the wifi.
I have tried to update my drivers and it says I have the latest drivers, but I am worried that the wifi adapter has or is failing to function. If anyone here has had issues similar to this please let me know possible sollutions.

Hello ChuckyZ28 and welcome to community,
It is sad to know you have issue with your new all in one
At the rear view of the computer you have Wireless reset button, press it then go to BIOS by pressing F1 key and load default the BIOS.
    Best Regards,

  • U300s wifi network issue

I'm having an issue with my wifi connecting to my network.  Yesterday my computer would not connect to my network, it can see the router, but it would connect and then disconnect.  All my other devices can use the router, but not my u300s.  I unplugged the router, but I haven't power cycled it yet.
Has anybody else experienced this issue?

Dd it work at apoint of time or it was from the staring?
You could try to do SYSTEM RESTORE AT THAT POINT OF TIME.
Also you could try reinstalling the following

  • Can't share my Internet connection - Can't create Wifi network

    Hi!
I'm struggling to get my Mac Mini A1176 with 10.7 to create a Wifi hotspot. When I try, either through Internet Sharing or by manually choosing create network, it says "can't connect", and fails to create the hotspot.
The only strange thing I can find, is that when I get the screen where I can choose network name, channel and security, channel is blank. I can't choose channel, the only option is the sign: -
Anyone else seen this? Doesn't the A1176 support Adhoc networks?

It's actually even easier than that....
I never had to create an adhoc network.

  • Need Help - WiFi network issue

Hey, just wondering if anyone could help me out here. My problem is that when I go to the WiFi setting page my 'network list' costantly refreshes every 5 seconds or so. I can access my network normally, but upon doing so my network bar shows a check mark that it's connected and then...bang, all the networks disappear (including mine) and I lose my connection.
I've read through a lot of the comments and issues on this board but haven't seen anyone experiencing the exact same problems as mine.
Another interesting thing is I just tried out my Nintendo DS WiFi connection and had no problem connecting w/ it. If it helps I'm running Windows XP, my router is a Linksys ___GS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Oh ya and I've tried restoring my iPod and my newtwork shows full bars connection, so....

The first thing I would do is try a reset of the network settings on your IPT, just go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings. (that's assuming you have the latest 1.1.3 firmware and the software upgrade installed)
If that doesn't work then you may have to get a bit more drastic and check the Linksys site and see if there are any firmware updates. If there are update your router and then reset it and give the IPT another try and see if it will connect.
I'm using a Linksys WRT54GL with WAP2 security and I've had no problems connecting.

  • WiFi-Network Issue After Installing Updates, When I turn my mac on from sleep. Help..

I recently installed updates on my MacBook Pro Lion and after installing MacBook Pro WFI Firmware Updat 2.2 and Thunderbolt Software Update 1.0, when I put my mac on sleep and come back, my mac will not connect to my network automatically. I have to turn off WiFi and turn back on in order for me to connect again. I didnt have this issue before installing these updates. Can anyone help me with this? Is it a software issue or hardware issue with my mac?

I'm very angry about this. This has been ongoing for quite a while, and the past several point updates (10.7.1 and 10.7.2 haven't fixed it.) I'm on 10.7.2 and still having this problem 100% of the time when I wake my 15" 2010 MacBook Pro from sleep by opening the lid. Even thought it's connected to the same network (Airport Express, fully updated) when I close and open it, WIFI does not reconnect, and I have to manually turn it off and on again before it will work.
I'm not the only angry one about this though. Do a search on the Apple Communities forums for "macbook pro lion wifi sleep" to see many other users with the same problem.

  • Created wifi network with AE won't allow me to access internet

I have uverse internet, 2 AE's connected through ethernet cables via cable boxes. I set both AE's to create their own wireless network.  I gave them both the same name and password. The password and settings mirror the uverse modem. What might the problem be? I can connect to the AE's, but on the created network I cannot connect to the internet. Thanks for any knowledge.

I assume that you have checked to make sure that all of the Ethernet cables, switches, etc are operating correctly.
Check to make sure that both AirPorts are configured to operate in Bridge Mode, and Update both devices if any changes have been made. Wait a full minute for each AirPort to restart after you click Update.  Post back with info on what version of AirPort Utility you are using if you are not sure how to do this.
Then, power off the entire network and wait a few minutes
Start the Uverse router first, and let it run a few minutes
Then, start up one AirPort the same way
Then, start up the other AirPort the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until everything is powered back up.
    Report on your results.

  • How can Mac Pro (late 2013) create a WiFi network for Mac Books to connect to internet?

I am moving my Mac-Pro (late 2013) to a garden office.  I have an ethernet cable to connect it to the house network.  I also have a Mac Book Air which will only connect to a network by WiFi.  I can use this Mac-Pro to create a WiFi network and the MacBook can talk to the Mac Pro over this WiFi network.  But the Mac Book does not see the local network let alone the Internet, both of which are seen on the Mac Pro.
Is there a way that I can connect the created WiFi network to one of the two Ethernet cards in the Mac Pro?
    Or what?
    Tim

    I have half cracked it.
For some reason the first step it to turn internet sharing off.
Then internet sharing can be configured and the wireless network set up and given a password.
Then, and then only, turn internet sharing back on and turn WiFi ON.  All this is on the Mac-Pro (late 2013).
Now the Mac Air sees the new network and can log on and connect to the WAN internet locations, at least via Safari.
BUT if I use Finder on the Air, it will connect to the Mac Pro but it will not display what is on its disc. Though I can do screen sharing.  Odd.
Also Air-Drop has stopped working, so there is no means of transferring files between the Pro and the Air.
I am going away now for a few days and will revisit this on my return.
    Thanks for your help.

  • IPhone 4s 64GB Network Issues

I have a iPhone 4s 64GB that has intermident wifi network issues. I have completely restored the phone and am running in factory configuration with only one app installed (ping utility)and am still experiencing the following issue. When using the network (safari, facetime, etc) the network will become unresponsive. If i start a ping from the device the to the network gateway I get no response. If I ping the iPhone from the computer I get no response. If I toggle airplane move on then off everything starts working and the device will start to function normally and respond to pings. This happens continually throughout the day to any network I am connected to. I have received a replacement device and still have the same issue. I have talked to apple numerous times and they still say it is hardware. I have also deployed 100 iphone 4s to our company and hear of similar issues. Has anyone else had this issue or found a resolution? I am a very big advocate of apple products but after this exprience I will no longer be upgrading to the latest and greatest. I have reverted to using my iPhone 4 with ios5 with no issues.
I have attached the console logs from my iphone that  retrieved from the iPhone configuration utility from a time when the issue was occuring.

  • Double computer name on network and NAT issue with Back to My Mac

These are the problems I am having:
When my MacPro workstation (which on the network is named "The Beast") wakes from sleep - I get a message saying "there is already a computer on the network with the name "The Beast". Other computers on the network can now find you at "The Beast-2"" and it gives me a new name in the file sharing preferences - even though it is the only computer on the network with that name.
    Why is this happening???
The other problem is with BackTo My Mac - When I try to enable it - I get an error message saying "Turn off NAT Addressing" - which I thought was turned off since the AEBS is in Bridge Mode. Why is this happening?
Here is my network setup which consists of the Modem / Router from my ISP - an Airport Extreme Base Station and one Airport Express - which is connected to my MacPro via ethernet. The MacPro does not have an airport card installed and is running OSX 10.6.8 - all other computers / devices are running 10.7.x and iOS6).
VDSL Modem / Router (from Internet provider) with wireless turned off - (so it is not broadcasting a competing wireless signal) - connected via ethernet to my Airport Extreme Base Station.
Here are all the settings on the AEBS and the Airport Express: - I am using Airport Utility 5.6.1 on my Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.8 - so the setup prefs are different than the newer version of Airport Utility found on 10.7.x systems - but both work fine. Although I did notice that the option to allow ethernet clients to connect to the Airport Express does not exist (or I just didn't find it) in the newer version of Airport Utility.
Airport Extreme Base Station is set up as follows:

    MobileMe:
Back to my Mac is turned off - but if I try to turn it on I get an error message saying "Turn off NAT Addressing - which I thought was turned off since the AEBS is in Bridge Mode. Why is this happening?
    IPv6:
    IPv6 Mode: Link-local only
As stated - my MacPro with no wifi card -  is connected via ethernet to an Airport Express which connects wirelessly to the AEBS for network and internet access.
    Airport Express Settings:
    Airport Settings:
Wireless Mode: Join a Wireless Network
    Allow Ethernet Clients IS CHECKED
    Wireless Security WPA/WPA2 Personal
Internet Settings: Are grayed out (as in I can't change these settings - I assume because they are being controlled by the AEBS) and read as follows:
    Connect Using: Wireless Network
    Connection Sharing: OFF (Bridge Mode)
    TCP/IP:
    Configure IPv4: using DHCP
All other settings are identical to the AEBS.
All other WiFi devices in the house (MacBook Pro, iPhones, iPad's, iMac, Apple TV, Nintendo Wii etc…all are able to connect to the network and connect to the internet - no problem.
Thanks for any insights into what might be causing the double name on the network and why it is asking me to turn off NAT addressing - when both my Airport devices are in Bridge Mode?

I am also having this issue... any updates on this??
