Computer dead copy iPad content to new computer

Hard drive died. PDFs, apps, books, videos on iPad. How to I back all that up to a new computer and sync with it? Don't want to erase iPad content.
I know I can download apps again. If an app like adobe ideas has drawings saved will syncing with new computer delete app data? Thank you!

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • HT1386 How do I back up the content of the iPad on the new computer or the cloud?

The computer I have been using for backing up my iPad died!
    My iPad is fine.
All the music on the iPad came from CD's.
How do I back up the content of the iPad on the new computer or the cloud?

    Do this:
    - iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
and restore/copy the iTunes library to you new computer.
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

  • HT4527 My old computer broke but I have all my content on an iPad. How do I get the content from the iPad to a new computer?

I had an old HP computer that had crashed about a week ago. I had all my music and apps stored on that computer but luckily, I also had all that stuff stored on my Ipad. Is there a way to transfer all the content from my iPad to a new computer?

The ipad is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to ipad.  The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy of your computer to put everything back

  • The computer that I used to sync my Ipad with crashed.  How can I copy the pictures from my Ipad to my new computer?

The computer that I used to sync my Ipad with crashed.  How can I copy the pictures from my Ipad to my new computer?  When I try to use Picassa to import them I can only see the 'Camera Roll; folder but I have several other folders with hundreds of pictures in them

To copy photos to your computer that were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page - on a PC you can use the windows camera wizard
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

How do I copy the entire contents of my laptops failing hard drive to copy back onto a new computer.

If the drive has failed the only way to get any data off it is to send it to a Data Recovery company. Which is very expensive and no guaranty they will be able to retrieve any data.
That is why Apple has included a system to backup your Mac on a regular basis, Time Machine. Also there are other Apps to do basically the same thing by Cloning your internal drive to an external drive. Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper. Along with using Disk Utility to Image the internal drive to an external drive.
Sorry to tell you but if the drive has really failed your Data is gone unless you pay a large sum of money to one of the Data recovery companies.

How do I get my pictures from my Computer and copy them to my new iPad?

    Hi EJJ111,
When you hook your iPad to your Computer, you will see it listed under Devices. Click on it, and then you will see a window to the right that shows all of your Device Profile pages. You will see a tab for Photos. Click on that tab. There you should see the option to sync all photos, or selected, events, photos, albums, etc.
Select what you want sync'd and then sync the device. The photos you have selected will download to your device.
    Cheers,

  • How do I un-sync my iPad from old computer in order to sync with new computer?

Have a new lap top and want to sync my iPad to it.  Since it can only sync to one device, how do I un-sync from old lap top in order to sync to new lap top?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPad. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore it from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Here's what to do:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPad to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPad without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPad for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPad for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Backing up ipad/iphone to new computer.  Have old computer backup files.

I have a new computer and want to backup my ipad and iphone to the new computer without losing data and settings.  I have complete backup files from the old computer including the previous ipad and iphone syncs.  I have set up itunes on the new computer and transferred over my music.  Can I transfer over the mobile device backup files to the new computer so the sync on the new computer is as if I am to syncing to the old computer?

    Thanks for the info.
I have 2 files from from old computer (one for iphone and one for ipad) from the folder callled:  users\xxx\appdata\roaming\applecomputer\roaming\mobilesync\backup\.  If I just copy those over to the new computer and put them in the same subdirectory will the ipad/iphone recognize these when I try to sync?
I also have the old itunes subfolder called Mobile Applications and am wondering if I just copy that over to the new itunes subfolder called itunes\media whether it will automatically be recognized?  Note: I am able to access the backup but unable to do anything in itunes in the old computer (such as consolidating or merging files)
Are these all of the files associated with the ipad/ipod backup that would have been stored on the old computer?

  • Old hard drive fried, can I copy from IPOD to new computer

My old computer fried so i purchased a new computer. Is there any wat to copy the tunes adn photos from my IPOD to my new computer? The photos are more inmportant as I can rebuild the tunes. Please advise.
      Windows XP

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7, look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod". A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting to your new computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only
    CopyPodPhoto Windows only

  • HT1349 I want to transfer my itunes from my ipad to my new computer...how do I do this?

How can I transfer my itunes from my iPad to my new computer?????

You can copy iTunes purchases from the iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. For music purchased from other stores or copied from your CDs you can either copy them onto your new computer from your old computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527) or backup, or you will need to find a third-party program that can copy them off the iPad

You should have a backup but if not you will need to transfer the contents before you sync or it will be erased.

For other music you will require a 3rd party program

This should be a pretty good guide for setting up the iPad with a new computer and for keeping your content.
Don't forget to authorize the new computer as well. Launch iTunes and go to Store>Authorize this Computer.

    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Make sure that you move your iTunes library from the old computer to the new one as well for all of your music.
Here is an article that can help you with that.

Yes for photos that were transferred from your old computer.
You can avoid this for iTunes content by transferring your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer per the instructions included with this link along with transferring other important data you will need or want to access on your new computer such as documents and photos.
