Computer dead (sbod) after losing webDAV connection

_The scenario:_
To not have to put the memory card of my mobile (Nokia E70) into a card reader, use a cable or transfer several 100 MB using Bluetooth, I am using Apache (raccoon) on the mobile to supply a WebDAV service and connect my iMac 2.16 OSX 10.4.11 with this share point using WLAN. This usually works fine, my SD card is visible like any other volume on the Mac and accessible at a reasonable speed.
_The problem:_
a) If I forget to unmount (eject) the WebDAV drive before turning off WLAN and stopping Apache, the Mac hangs as soon as I try to do anything concerning that volume. It ask if it should eject - but it never does. It results in a spinning beach ball of death. It is also not possible to restart the computer, it seems to wait for that volume to get ejected. There is no timeout, I waited several hours. Trying to restart Finder gives the answer: Couldn't start application Finder (Error -600). Only help is to press Power for some seconds to turn the computer off hard.
b) Accepting a) I was careful not to forget to unmount. Now there seems to be another restriction: Multiple copies at the same time also cause the bad behavior. This means my workarund doesn't help for sure.
_The questions:_
1) Is there a solution for my problem using Tiger? It would perfectly acceptable for me to reconnect. But I don't want to restart the Mac.
2) Would an update to 10.5 Leopard help?

Thank you for the fast answer.
The cause for the problem (at least in this case) was not that a Mac went to sleep, but that the Apache server on the mobile a) was turned off by me b) didn't cope fine with more than one copy act (at least I assume it was server's fault).
"Leopard is more forgiving" is very general, I can't judge by this statement if Leopard could help in my case. Is it more forgiving using file shares and having timeouts, or does it handle sleep mode better (this wouldn't help me at all), or does it contain changes regarding WebDAV?
I am aware that I should run disk maintenance. But as OSX doesn't seem to have write caches without timeouts like system 7-9 had I didn't do it every time as I waited long enough before turning off. Additionally OSX already does some kind of file system check when initializing. But thank you for this hint, will do it as a precaution.
Did search for processes that seem to hang when it happened. Didn't find it.

  • Computer account disappears after losing trust

    Hello,
We are having quite a strange issue.
We have about 2000 PCs on our network running a range of different OS versions. Some PCs in randomly lose their trust with the domain.
The strange thing is, after losing the secure connectivity with the domain. The computer accounts just disappear from AD.
Is this the normal case when losing secure connectivity with the domain?
We also searched for the deleted computer account in recycle bin, But the entry is not there. Our domain and forest functional level is 2008r2 and we are running 2008 r2 standard domain controllers.
Please help me on the point "computer accounts disappearing from AD after losing trust relationship without present in deleted containers"

    Hi Venkat,
Thanks for your information. We would check with the NIC drivers. But please help us to understand on the point "computer
accounts disappearing from AD after losing trust relationship without present in deleted containers" Is this a normal issue when trust relation breaks?
The disappeared objects don't even exists in active directory recycle bin after removed. This is what we see as strange.

  • After losing Wifi connection, can not find a network

Since IO5 when I loose a wifi connection (out of range or whatever), the phone (4G) will no longer connect. In the Wifi setting, there are no wifi networks listed anymore, none appear, though there are 4 normally.
Turning off the Wifi and on again does not solve the problem. The only thing that works is turning off the iPhone and then on again.
    Any suggestions??

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus losing wireless connectivity, cannot scan to computer

In our office, we have roughly 4 computers using the HP Officeject Pro 8600 Plus, all of which are connected wirelessly. The printer was previously connected to the internet wirelessly with no problems. A couple of days ago however our computers started randomly disconnecting. The printing function would work for a bit, then disconnect. I found the only solution to this problem was to hit the button on our wireless router that resends the wireless signal out for connectivity.
We hardwired the printer with an ethernet cable and I myself didn't see any further problems regarding connectivity but a couple of the other computers had spotty connections.  Again, each time this can be remedied by hitting the button on the wireless router.
Today  however we had an additional problem, after trying to scan a document through the automatic document feeder, the printer said it was jammed (although it wasnt). When we went to rescan, the scan to computer function was no longer working. I can scan by hitting the scan button on my HP Printer Assitant interface, and I can also scan to email, but cannot scan to computer.
I have gone through several forums and haven't been able to find a solution. I personally use Windows 8, but other people in our office are using older versions of Windows. We've tried unplugging, restarting, hardwiring, resetting wireless settings, uninstalling, etc. etc. Before a few days ago the pritner was working fine for a number of months.
If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

Running 10.6.8 on Intel dual core iMac, it keeps on losing internet connection. Webpages get stuck after a minute or so. If I check the internet connection via diagnostics it seems to work just fine. Others, like the iPad use the same wifi connection and never fail. What can I do?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

Are you getting any sort of blue screen before the PC reboots? If so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x\[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
If the blue screen mentions a specific file (for example, “ati3duag.dll”), let us know what that is called too. (Exact spelling, please.)
Here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
If you're not seeing a blue screen (or if you’re just seeing a flash of a blue screen before the PC reboots), we can use the following technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
With those settings in place, does a blue screen appear before the PC reboots?

  • Randomly losing network connection over wireless

Shortly after installing the 10.4.5 software update, my G4 iBook with built-in Airport Extreme card has been losing connection with increasing frequency. Built-in Ethernet use is unaffected. I'm calling this problem thrash-and-drop.
    1. When it's losing signal, processor activity goes through the roof. I had Activity Monitor running during a thrash-and-drop. kernel_task CPU consumption goes from under 1% before the event, to over 80% during the thrashing, and back under 1% after the thrashing stops. The activity is so bad the cursor can't be controlled: using the track pad sends the pointer all over the screen or nowhere at all.
    2. This has been observed to occur with two different wireless base stations: A Linksys WRT54G and an older SMC 802.11b router. Either router is within 10 feet of the computer. Only one is running at a time. There are no other base stations in range.
    3. Another iBook G4 (OS 10.3, Airport Extreme card (not built-in)), sitting next to it, shows no change and its wireless behavior is unaffected.
Initially, this seemed more likely to happen when Safari was loading Flash-heavy pages. And after thrashing and dropping a connection, it was able to reconnect after either a reboot or a five minute sleep. Currently, it can't connect to a base station for more than a minute. Most recently, it thrashed and dropped while I was selecting the base station to use. This is true regardless of the application running. In fact, it will thrash-and-drop when there are no user applications running at all, after a fresh reboot.
I've tried the following things to address the problem. None have affected the thrash-and-drop problem. Admittedly, most of this is random:
    1. Back up and delete network preferences in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    2. Turn off IPv6 in System Preferences/Network
    3. Back up and delete network preferences in ~/Library/Preferences (com.apple.NetInfoManager.plist and com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist)
Has anybody else seen this problem? I want to blame it on the 10.4.5 upgrade but I haven't seen anybody else complaining about 10.4.5 doing this to them. If there's something I can do to fix this in a software setting, I'd much prefer that to yet another roadtrip to the Apple store.
    1.33 GHz G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi!
I have the same problem of randomly losing network connection over wireless, though mine is hardly related to surfing.
I have an external storage drive in which I use for backup of my stuff, and I access the drive via my modem, using the airport. Of late, I noticed that when copying files from my iBook to the external drive, the connection would suddenly drop before the transfer is completed. This began to occur with increasing frequency, particularly when transferring large files.
I have since abandoned wireless connection, and reverted to my trusty cable. Still, I admit that I'm really curious about the cause of the apparent lack of reliability with my wireless connection. Has it something to do with the airport?

I have a question regarding my txt/alert tones. I recently updated my iPhone 5's software without first backing it up on iCloud or my computer (oops). After my phone finished updating, i lost the new ringtones and txt/alert tones i had bought. I connected my iPhone to my computer and sync'd it hoping that it could download my purchases from the itunes store and then put them back on to my phone but no such luck. When i look at my iphone on my computer and look at tones, they do not show up at all. However, if i click on the "On This iPhone" tab and click on "Tones" the deleted ringtones and altert tones show up...they are just grey'd out and have a dotted circle to the left of them. I also tried to go to the iTunes store on my phone and redownload them and it tells me that i have already purchased this ringtone and asks me if i want to buy it again. I press Cancel. I know when i do that with music it would usually let me redownload the song without buying it again but it wont let me with the ringtones...so how do i get them back? any help would be greatly appreicated

  • Losing Internet Connections

I switched from a Linksys wired router to the Airport Extreme wireless and did not experience any problems until recently. For the past couple of weeks I occasionally lose connection to the internet. The 4 lights on my cable modem that are suppose to stay lit sometimes flashes. Computers that are connected to the AE includes an iMAC running Snow Leopard, a Windows Vista machine, and 2 XP machines (through a Linkysy hub). The problem happens regardless of which machine I use (ethernet cable). When I called my cable company they claim everything is fine on their end and suggested I get a new modem.
Before spending $75.00 for a new modem, which might not fix the problem, I decided to re-boot the cable modem and attach it my original Linksys router and hub, and it seems to be working fine. I've been using the original configuration for about an hour without losing the connection (i.e., all of the lights on the modem that are suppose to be on are on).
Are there settings within AE that I need to change to address this issue?

I've been having the same problem ever since I updated my software. I only have access to dial-up which makes downloading anything a pain in the ##%! In the past I have been patient, but now I get a message indicating that I have to chose to stay connected. Can't say how often it occurs, but it is at least less than an hour. I cannot sit at my computer while a file, that is going to take 4 hours is downloading, however if I don't I am disconnected and would have to start the download all over again. I have looked at all possible preferences to see if there is somewhere to resolve the problem, but to no avail. There has to be a way to get rid of this annoyance. Please help!

  • Can't re-order my queue on Netflix and keep losing the connection

I'm having so much trouble with Netflix!  I can't re-order my queue, I keep losing the connection, and it's painfully slow. Is Netflix known to be unstable on iPad? Other internet connecitons seem to be fine.

I rarely have problems on it - I do occasionally have drops in video quality, but nothing consistent. It does require a very strong and stable network connection, and I also wonder if they have periodic "crush time" incidents on their end, considering the rapid growth of Netflix streaming.
Updating the queue is a pain on it - you can't do it on the app, and have to go to their website. I generally find it easier to do on a computer.

I am trying to create a WebDav Connection to view some XML data in Jdeveloper, and the connection fails even after I use the help tips. Any help would be appreciated.

Your execution to setup WebDAV is perfect, the last error only means a /home already exists. And the other output means you have successfuly configured your database. So it, on the Oracle Database side is working.
Windows XP is problematic because of the security issues you have frequently to work around. Temporarily disable the windows firewall. Make sure your browser configuration doesn't prevent you from accessing your site.
Let's check the listener. Issue the command lsnrctl status, a simmilar output must be seen:
