Computer died-new computer can't open etextbook

My computer crashed hard with my etextbook on it. I used Carbonite.com to backup my hard drive, so the files weren't lost. The new computer uses Vista. I installed DE and downloaded the textbook from the Carbonite backup. Now I'm getting the message "Document is licensed for a different user account."
First the print copy gets lost in the mail, now my digital copy is lost on a crashed computer. I can't afford another $70 for a third copy and class has already started. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, the answer to this depends on your memory. Do you remember if you used named activation when you originally purchased the book?
If you used 'Easy Activation' (otherwise known as 'anonymous activation') then you're in trouble, because books activated that way are NOT portable and cannot be moved to another drive or machine.
Now, if you'll open a support case then we can check to see if there are activations against your email address. Also consider the possibility that you may not be remembering the address you authorized with correctly..

  • Old Logic + a new Mac = can't open old projects anymore. De/re-install?

    Hi everybody,
maybe someone can advise me with this problem:
I bought a new Mac recently, did install a fresh OSX 10.5 and then used migration assistant to transfer my old user account from my old Mac (10.4), incl. all files. It did take a night, but it worked - or so I thought. Actually all applications work as they should, except for Logic. I had to re-authorize a few plug-ins, but then all seemed to be cool. I can open a new project, record audio, midi, add plug-ins, all cool. But I ended up with 3 problems, which are really annoying:
    1) EXS24 couldn't find most of the samples anymore. Most, not all. I have 4 internal HDs, one for the system, one for audio recordings, one for samples, one for "other stuff". 2 of these disks came from the old Mac, 2 new ones, content copied from old Mac. In the EXS prefs I set "search for samples" to "all volumes", but it still didn't work perfectly. Finally I bought EXSManager Pro and now it seems to work again. I didn't try ALL samples yet, but the +/- 20 EXS instruments I tried, did load all samples.
    2) Space Designer doesn't load impulse responses for the presets anymore. They're there and at the right place. I can load SD and import an existing impulse file, no problem. But the presets don't find the required files anymore.
    3) Now - and this is the worst one - I can't open old projects anymore. I just can't. It starts loading, I see the rainbow thing (don't know the right word), it turns black & white and that's it. You can watch this forever and nothing happens.
    Regarding all 3 issues:
I don't get any error messages. Logic doesn't crash, I can't click 'apple-.' to stop loading/searching. It just doesn't open the file. I had a coffee, a pizza, I let it try for 2 hrs+, but neither did it load a SD preset or an old song file. All I can do is manually quit Logic.
But when I open Logic with the CTRL-button down and click "no" to core audio I can open all songs. Of course I can not hear a tone then, but it's all there. Opening a song takes 3 secs then. I tried to safe a song then with a different name, re-started Logic with core audio but same result. It get's "stuck".
Of course I checked user permissions and all the usual trouble shooting clicks, but still Logic has a mind of it's own. I installed a 2nd user with admin rights, though still the same, plus all the 3rd party plug-ins refusing to work.
Now I was thinking, should I de-install Logic and re-install from the original CDs maybe. And if so, is there anything special I have to take care of? Like manually removing any prefs or cache files?
Or completely re-install the whole Mac? (pleeease no....)...
If anybody has any idea, it'd be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance and for the energy to read my little novel here,
    cheers,
    Joern

Ok, either my question was too long or nobody seems to have an answer. Sad, either way
Here's something I found out in the meantime, maybe this is interesting for somebody or maybe - problem's not totally solved - enough info for any of you to give me further advice.
When I start Logic Core Audio driver de-activated, I can open old songs. Then I save them in a new folder with all audio files and a new name. And I remove all EXS24 instruments as well as the Space Designer. I quit Logic, re-open with Core Audio activated and I can open the song.
Problem no.1: EXS24 instruments don't find the appropriate samples, but EXSMananger Pro did help me with this. Same problem with Space Designer, which doesn't find the impulse responses, connected to a certain preset.
Two questions, every idea would be great!
    - Is there any way to teach Space Designer Presets where to look for impulse respones. I can load IR samples directly and create a new preset, but I can't use my old ones.
    - Is it possible to install Logic from scratch over an existing version? Or how should I de-install everything connected with Logic and then install a fresh version from CD?
    Thank you again,
    Joern

  • LR2.7 second (new) laptop can't open catalog on external drive

I've installed and updated the same version of LR on a new laptop which I'm still setting up (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit). It sounds like it's ok to have two installs for one user at home, but the second one is still in trial mode so far. I wanted to see how much faster/better the new laptop handles the catalog which is on an external drive. The old laptop is Windows XP SP3 32-bit.
If I connect the external drive to the new laptop and try to open the catalog, it says it can't use the catalog "because it is not writable and cannot be opened.
This could be caused by incorrect permissions or because another Lightroom application is using the catalog...".
I am an Administrator on both machines. I don't see a lock file, and the Windows permissions for System and Administrators allow all (but Special Permissions is unchecked).
There are some photos on the old c: drive that I haven't copied over yet, but that shouldn't make a difference.
And I can still open the catalog on the old laptop.
    What should I do?
    Thanks in advance.

I hear that on Win 7, running as Administrator is not sufficient--you need to make sure that your account "owns" the files or directories that it's trying to access.
Also, with LR not running, check in the directory that the catalogue is in and if there's a file with a ".lock" extension, delete it.

  • New computer - Can I open previous FCPX events/projects from an external hard drive on my new computer?

My old computer died - a Macbook Pro from 2011.  Fortunately, I saved all of my FCPX events and projects on an external hard drive.  Unfortunately, many of those projects were unfinished.
I have since bought a new iMac with FCPX, but I can't figure out how to open my old projects.
On my external hard drive, I have 2 folders: Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects.
Under a specific event, there is an "Analysis Files" folder, a "CurrentVersion.fcpevent" file, an "Original Media" folder, and a "Render Files" folder.
Under a specific project, there is a "CurrentVersion.fcpproject", a "Render Files" folder, and a "Shared Items" folder.
Is it possible to open up my old FCPX projects?  Thanks so much for your help!

It may have been an earlier version, but that doesn't seem to be working.  See attached photo
Its not allowing me to click on my Events or Projects.
    Any other ideas?

  • New computer - can't open my website in iweb

I just replaced my old computer and the new one that has iweb already installed. After logging into mobileme and opening iweb, the program doesn't show me my existing website. I checked under 'File' but 'visit published site' is not an option. What do I need to do to open and work on my existing website in iweb? Thanks.

Well, you actually need to be sure that you have backed up the correct file.
It is correct that if you have published pages from iWeb and they are html pages and files, then iWeb cannot import these - iWeb has no import facility and creates all the html code needed when you publish. If this is the case, then you will have to re-build your site from scratch.
The file where iWeb stores all data and this is the file that you need to be able to alter anything is your domain.sites2 file. It is located under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites. Note, it is your user library that you need to be looking in and not your system library.
Find your domain.sites file and you can make any alterations that you want and it is this file that you want to back up and nothing else - backing up a published site is no good, as you have already learned.

  • Timecapsuled to new computer, Can't open Logic

Anyone had this issue before? Any solutions?

There is a System ID file when you register logic that ties your serial number to your computer ID Number.
Now that you have migrated to a new machine, the computer is a new model and the computer ID is not right.
Have your serial number ready and go to:
Library/Application Support/ProApps/Logic Studio System ID and delete the System ID file.
Empty trash, now restart Logic and the Registration dialog box should appear.
Put in your info and serial number.
I'm guessing here, there could be other things wrong, you may have to re-install the Logic Pro Application again.

  • Upgraded iTunes to version 8 and now my computer can't open it

Are there older versions of iTunes still available that I can put back on my computer? I've been using iTunes version 7 for over a year without any problems but after I upgraded earlier this month I can't even open iTunes! My computer is old and probably doesn't have the features needed to run version 8 so is there any way to get older software. Obviously I can't access my music or the itunes store until I figure this out. Thanks for your help.

i am also having problems since i installed the update for 8.0. i have read through these threads and have tried everything that i can think of to get rid of itunes on here.... heres what im getting. when i click on the icon to open itunes i get "this action is only valid for products that are currently installed" ok so i figured something was missing and needed to uninstall and redo it but then i get this message " the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" "Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'itunes.msi' in the box below.... i have tried restoring my computer to an earlier time and its still messed up. I have an iphone and ipod and cannot update my music, can someone please help me get rid of this 8.0 and get the older one back

  • When I try to open my iphoto, I get a notice saying the computer can't open it and it needs to be rebuilt, what does this mean?

When I tried to open my iphoto program yesterday and a box popped up saying ( iphoto is unable to open this library, the library has issues that require rebuilding to correct) Does this mean I have lost all my photos? And how do I rebuild it? I don't understand, It was working fine the last time I used it. Need help!!

It just needs to rebuild the database. You do have your iPhoto library backed up to an external source just in case?
And how do I rebuild it?
Hold down the Option + Command keys then launch iPhoto.
    Select the first option.

  • Won't open homepage on open, won't open web pages from the menu 'open new window', Can't open menu button

Ok, since update to version 31.0, I have been having some problems.
I have tried doing everything stated in the support page about resetting, reinstalling, safe mode, restarting pc etc.
First problem, when I open Firefox no web page loads. It just says New Tab and a blank white page. If I press the home button I am taken to my homepage which is google.
Second problem, when I right click on a link and the menu pops up, if I click open in new window, a new window opens but it just says New Tab with a blank page and no URL information, just blank.
Third problem, the Open Menu button just doesn't work at all. You can click all you like, that thing is not opening.
I am really stuck as to what to do. I have only been using Firefox for about a month and t was good until these problems. If I can't resolve it, I will have to use another browser as it is really annoying.
I am using Windows 8.1 by the way and have scanned my computer thouroughly for both virus's and malware.

Hi zenithtwc, to test whether this is a settings issue, could you do a three-minute experiment?
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
''Don't delete anything here.'' Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Test731, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
    Can it reach the internet?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

  • HELP! Installed new itunes/can't open Istore

    HELP!
I just downloaded the new itunes 8.2 and now am unable to open the itunes store. We do not have McAfee or Norton as far as I can tell. I can still get on the internet and the IStore was working before I installed the new itunes. I have tried all the suggestions from apple and itunes, including clearing DNS cache, turning off firewall, shutting entire system down, and uninstalling itunes and re-installing it. I still get the following message:"I- tunes could not connect to the I tunes store. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again." My internet is working fine, so the connection is being made. • New iphone can't open in itunes

Apple recently replaced my old iphone 4S with an identical newer one, but when I plugged it in to itunes and tried to open the "iphone" page, it said that my request could not be processed:
I have restarted my phone, itunes, and my computer, but it's still not working. Any ideas?  Thanks!

What were you trying to do in iTunes?  Are you trying to activate your new device?
If you are receiving this error, you most likely need to put your phone into recovery mode and then restore it in iTunes.
To place device in recovery mode:
    Open iTunes
Make sure phone IS NOT connected to iTunes
Press Home Button & Sleep/Wake button at the same time until you see the Apple appear on your screen
Once you see the Apple let go of ONLY the sleep wake button
Continue holding the home button and plug your phone into iTunes
You should see a message that a device has been detected in recovery mode
You can acknowledge this request and then restore the iphone to factory settings.  This usually fixes the issue.

  • New Mac, new software, can't open .fdf - Reader and Safari 'flicker'

My brand-new Xeon tower with OS 10.6.4 is loaded with the latest software version of everything, and when I try to open an .fdf file (Dental Claim Form from my work benefits) Reader has a conniption, booting up Safari (no matter which browser I'm using) and then 'flickering' as Reader and Safari try to take the front window from each other. Safari is Version 5.0 and Reader is 9.3.3. I tried uninstalling the Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plug-In to see if I could force it to read as a Firefox plug-in, but it still boots up Safari and has a battle for front screen. Nothing is crashing though, I can click on the File menu and whichever app is front when I click gives me a menu I can Quit from. I just want to get an address to send a claim form to, not play software games!!!

Click on View at the top of the screen
In the pull down menu click on View Toolbar

  • Have New Camera Can't Open RAW in CS5

Have CS5 and a new camera, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000. I tried uploading the RAW plug in, but I still can't get my photos to open. Suggestions?

This is a common scenario for those with older versions of Adobe software buying new cameras. It often requires a software upgrade too.
Why doesn’t my version of Photoshop or Lightroom support my camera?
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
Support for the FZ1000 was just added to the very latest Camera Raw 8.6 which is only compatible with CS6, CC and CC 2014.
CS5 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to 6.7. CS5 is not compatible with later versions of Camera Raw so there's no way to open FZ1000 Raw files in CS5.

  • Post upgrade/new Mac, can't open 08 site in iWeb 09 :(

So it's been a while and I'm finally getting back to my web page. In the interim I've got a new Macbook, on Leopard and iWeb 09 now. Trying to open the groundwork I did and of course getting no joy, appears I don't have the .sites2 file. Didn't know I needed it, and while an avid backer-upper I don't have a backup of my previous Mac anymore. The html for the pages I made before loads up in a browser fine, is there any way this can be imported into iWeb 08 or 09? or am I starting from scratch again??
    many thanks

The domain.sites2 file is the holy grail of iWeb. It is the heart and soul of your web site(s) in that it contains all of the relevant files for creating the site. By default it is located in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. It's your responsibility to provide for a backup of it. An external HD and Time Machine is a very good backup solution. Or you could get a flash drive and manually backup that domain file to it after every use of iWeb.
