Computer does not detect my digital camera

I have a Panasonic digital camera and when I plug it into my mac via firewire cable, the image capture says that no devices are detected.
I plugged in my digital camera (Canon Powershot A60) and it was fine.
Help!
It is important that that I have the ability to put video clips into my computer.

Ditto to Deborah, you should try another FW device, like an iPod for example (one who can connect trough FW, that is).
Now, I don't think the Image Capture is able to capture video from a digital videocamera. I think it must be done trough iMovie or QT. In the case of a camcorder, most certainly trough iMovie.
I've been searching the iBook PDF manual and found that when the iBook "senses" a FireWire device for wich it has not a driver, it prompts you to install it or to download it from the internet. So if nothing happens when you connect your DV camera to the FW port, it may be because it is broken.
What is broken?, you ask, one of three things (or the three of them): The FW port in the iBook, the FW cable, or the FW port in the camera. Therefore, you need to check your iBook with another FW peripheral, try another cable, and try your camera with another computer....

After I updated to iOS 5, my computer does not detect my iPhone 4. Not only that, all my backed up data was erased. =/ I cannot even sync my iPhone if it is not detected. What can I do? The USB ports are working. It is fully charged. I have restarted the phone and computer various times. But nothing works.

There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's.  Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.

  • Sad icon = computer does not detect = cannot put into disc mode !

    hey,
my ipod photo at the moment won't turn on. the best i can do is plug it in to either my pc or the electricity supply, or reset it, so the apple logo comes up, however it only lasts for a few seconds and the sad face icon appears, directing you to www.apple.com/support.
i tried the first 4 r's and got onto the restoring one. but the updater will not detect the ipod. i think it is because my ipod is not in disc mode, but i cannot put it into disc mode - i can do the first step and resetting it, but then when i click the play/pause button and the select button nothing happens.
this problem has severly cheesed me off, and am very desperate to have a working ipod again!!!! please please help if you can!!!!
    thanks a lot, leon

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning ! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

  • Help everyone..anyone!  My ipod is frozen and my computer does not detect.

Hi everyone I'm very disappointed to say that my ipod photo has been frozen for the past few days. First off, I accidentally disconnected it while plugged into the computer, and now my computer won't recognize the ipod at all. It says that "the device has malfunctioned" and to make matters worse, my ipod is frozen on the main screen. I tried charging it using my wall charger, but it didn't work. I tried pluging it in using usb but the usb doesnt recognize my ipod either. Somehow when my ipod is connected and i start Itunes..it doesn't work and it doesnt read my ipod photo.
So..Im stuck here and if I can't fix this I'm pretty much done for because I'd have to send it back to Apple.
    Thanks guys.
Oh and I tried restoring the ipod too but everything says that my ipod isn't connected!

    Have a look at these.
How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond.
It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod.
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes.
iPod does not appear in iTunes.

Try to restore it in disk mode.

  • Zen microphoto-computer does not detect it, help ple

I got my zen microphoto for christmas, so i have had it less than a month. a few days ago the screen froze on me while i was looking for music to listen to. i had been listening to it for about an hour or so, the album once done and i went to get somehting else to listen to and it froze. I tried plugging it into the computer and that didn't make a diffrence. i couldn't shut it down, turn the lock on nothing. but it did make noise when touching the arrows and stuff. just didn't do anything. i let the battery go dead. then i plugged it into the computer and charged the battery. when i turned it on i got the page where you can reboot. so i rebooted and that was it. the last option of the four. it rebooted and i could listen to music, battery charges.
I notice when i plug it into the computer the little charge icon is over the battery and flashing and the battery charges but i don' tget the picture of the usb connection to the comptuer that would show up before when i plugged it in. also the computer doesn't make the little noise that it used to either when i plugged it in. zen creative says i need to plug in my device, windows media player doesn't see it either.
i tried reinstalling the creative stuff, turn off the player and take out the battery and all that, and i cleaned it (first option) and then rebooted (last option). i didn't do the two in the middle, reformating and the firmware thing.
if anyone can help me that would be great and much appreciated.
    thanks-alex

snoweagle-you are the best. thank you so much. still wasn't really sure what you are talking about with the SP (service pack) stuff. but i went to downloads for zen micro and there were three options. took the first application download. downloaded it, installed it, restarted my computer...and it works. i have the docked word with the usb icon on my screen and i can open up and edit my music. (haven't tried to import something yet but i'm sure i'll be able to) i didn't know that i had to keep up with the new downloads and such. thank you so much. i was on the verge of tears...thank you and i hope you are around for awhile in case i have other questions. thank you thank you thank you-alex

  • WVC210 Device manger does not detect camera driver

Hi, Iam doing a java application project which captures a vedio from linksys wvc210 network camera, the problem is the device manager does not detect the camera as one of the imaging devices or as any, and so the jmf registry editor does not also detect the camera in which i am stuck on how to make java detect it and work on it which is impossible without being detected with the jmf registry so i need windows first to detect it at the device manager which will lead jmf registry editor to also detect it.
note that: the camera installation worked properly and i can access it normally. by the way iam using windows vista.
    any help please...

First of all, thanks for ur reply, i will state the problem again: iam doing a java api application using the java media framework (JMF), the application goal is to capture a vedio from the ip camera, the application is done and works with my web cam which is detected by the java capture device manager, on the other hand the capture device manager does not detect the ip camera as one of the captured device in which i can't run my application on it. So the easiet way is to make windows detect it as one of the devices at the device manager so java capture device manager can detect it and my application will work immediatly. any suggestions ?

    Hi,
I have recently bought an apple computer and tried to import video on imovie but imovie did not detect my video camera. i can upload video on my windows xp laptop so i know that all is ok with the camera and i can upload photos and video using my wife's digital photo camera so i know that other hardware is detected by my computer. I have also the correct fire wire cables which I bought from an apple dealer, who could not help me with this problem either.
Do i need different drivers for an apple computer as the only ones that came with the panasonic camera are for windows? and if so where do i get it as i looked on the net unsuccessfully.

  • Adobe Digital Editions does not detect my e-reader

Can anyone help please? My Adobe Digital Editions does not detect my Sony e-reader and does not appear in my bookshelves. My laptop detects the device without any issues but Adobe does not - I have re-installed twice but still the same.

Re-installing is not the answer.  Most likely, the issue is either the
sequence of events that you go through, whether the SONY ereader is
supported and whether it is registered properly.  Let me go through these in
reverse order.  I am assuming (dangerous) that the SONY is 'new to you'.  If
not, then please accept my apologies.
You start with making sure that the SONY ereader is supported by Adobe
Digital Editions (ADE from now on).  Check the list of supported devices
    HERE <http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalpublishing/supported-devices>.  If it
is, then you know that the rest of the process should work.
Next, attach the ereader to your computer.  Let's assume a Windows
machine: plug it into a USB port and wait for Windows to recognise it and
tell you your hardware is ready to use.  If you've done this before, check
that Windows has added your ereader as a device by going to My Computer and
looking at the disk drives.  Your ereader should show up.  Then, if you
haven't registered the ereader with SONY, you should go to their website.
It will look for attached ereaders and confirm that it finds yours.
Register it with SONY, using your Adobe ID and password.  SONY will then
write a small record onto the ereader, which ADE needs to see.  Close the
    SONY website.
Next, bring up ADE.  If all is well, ADE will recognise your ereader and it
will show up on your bookshelf.  If there's a problem with the ereader, ADE
will tell you that, and we can go from there.
If all is well, you can transfer your ebooks via drag and drop.  When you're
done, close ADE, but don't disconnect your SONY until it tells you it's
finished updating itself.  THEN eject it via My Computer or the small icon
in the system tray at the bottom right of the screen.
    Hope this helps!
