my i pad shows connect to itunes but my computer does not recognise the devise -- it was ok until i tried to do a software update

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

  • Help my computer does not recognise my hard drive

    Hi All,
Yesterday I turned my computer on to find that it would not start up. I tried following advice etc about starting up in safe mode etc but no help what I have found is that he computer does not recognise the hard drive anymore so when I out the osx install disk in and run system profiler and disk utility it does not show a hard drive. I have not done anything for this to happen. Can anyone help me with this.
    Thanks.

Instead of using older OS X CD/DVD install to a new drive.
Where is your backup and clone?
Buy some drives! that is a must.
Pick up a FW case, you will need it to put the old drive in, and later, so you have an external and off line drive for backups and maintenance.
A copy of TechTool Pro 4/5 and Disk Warrior (DW first).
    SuperDuper to clone your drives.
Demo of Prosoft Data Rescue 3 to scan the drive once you have a system and you put the 'dead' drive in FW case.
Then do backups and preventative maintenance on a very regular basis and have at least two backup sets.
If you have been doing that, and know and have read those instructions in the past....

  • Itunes does not recognise ipod touch 3rd gen

  • Mac does not recognise ipod nano.

i am using nano for 8 months already.
it had little problems till this day, and just resetting the nano would help to solve the recognising problems arised in the time being whatsoever.
but this time i have an exclamation point on a folder on the screen, and it won't go away.
when i try to connect the nano to my mac, it sees nano as a random hd (namely "apple ipod media"), but does not recognise it as "ipod nano" which we love and cherish when we automatically see it on dt and itunes if it's connected to our macs.
a pop up comes to my screen when i connect nano to mac, i press initalize, and it opens disc utility. the program doesn't help me for restoring the ipod.
using ipod updater as a restoring tool doesn't work neither (obviously).
    ...help?

    Try this:
    Windows 8.1, 64bit
It appears that the 64bit install messed up the device drivers for the Apple mobilie devices connecting as USB.
I tried many things, I may have missed a step below.  But the following is what I believe was the fix - since it worked on a 2nd PC.
Make sure you are using an administrator account.  Any of them on your machine will do for the following
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.

  • Computer Does not Recognize IPOD

I have tried everything I can think of and any help would be great.
Narrative: I have two 60GB IPod, two 4GB Nano. I purchased each of them approximately 6 months ago and all have worked very well out of the box. About two weeks ago (I believe I can time it to the date of the last update actually) the two 60GB stopped being able to communicate with the computer(acutally, within two days of each other - not both at the same time). One day it worked great - the next I came up with a "USB device not recognized" error. I tried as much of the 5 r's as possible (I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, itunes, made sure I had up-to-date hardware drivers, etc.) The one thing that I could not do was a restore as the computer does not recognize the ipods there is no way to use the restore software. The two nanos consistently have had no issues (other than not being able to hold all the information I need to carry).
I've removed/uninstalled the USB ports and let them get rediscovered - no change
Updated motherboard BIOS driver - no change
uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, etc - no change
thought about really hurting the ipod - no change sigh
Dreamed of kicking the ipod into the air Pele style - no change
Details: 60GB Ipod, Dell Inspiron 6000, Windows XP SP2, Latest drivers (to the best of my knowledge). Cable is tested (still works on Nanos and I've tried all four cables that came with the four ipods to no effect). USB ports recognizes all other devices that are tested.
I can't think of anything specifically that I left out but any help you can think of would be great. I have read through most of the posts regarding this issue; however, most of the threads have devolved quickly. About the only fix I have seen that would work is "you should have never purchased a PC in the first place, get a Mac and it will work fine." This is, of coure, not an option.

    hiya!
hmmmmm. that model is a Dell notebook, isn't it?
if so, we'd better quickly check on this possibility:

  • Computer does not see ipod, no charge

My computer doesn't see or charge my ipod nano. It is only a few months old and this is the third time I have plugged it into the USB port to charge. The backlight came on when I plugged it in, but I didn't pay attention to what it said. When I came home from work, the screen was dark with the apple logo in the background. I reset it and the screen went dark. I changed USB ports to all available ports to no avail. The USB ports on the computer are good since they are running other devices. The power is not able to be lowered automatically by the computer. I have tried all of the "R's" given by the support center again to no avail. The computer does not recognize the ipod and no power seems to be given it at all. I am at a complete loss as to what to do. If anyone has a brilliant fix for this I will be ever so grateful. Thank you for your time!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HELP!!! My Computer does not recognise my Ipod

I have a 30G 5th Generation Ipod, and it has worked great on my computer since i bought it. Today, when i plugged it into my computer, it began to charge, but the screen did not change to the "Do Not Disconnect" and the Icon did not show up in my computer or Itunes I put it into disk mode, and it still could not be read by anything..... HELP ME!!!

I actually have the same problem as the first post. I've used my iPod 5th Gen 30gb without any problems for probably close to a year. Now my iPod charges when I connect it with the USB cable but it never goes into "Do Not Disconnect" and it is not recognised in Windows or in iTunes. Because its not in iTunes there is no way to select it and restore the device. I have tried this on two different computers and used two different Apple USB to iPod cables, same result in both cases. I've gone through the 5 R's and they didn't help at all.
Anyone have any other ideas before I bite the bullet and pay Apple to try to fix it (well past warrenty).
No offense to the 2nd and 3rd posters but it sounds like you have a different issue because you were able to perform a restore of your device which would require it to be seen in iTunes.
