Computer does not recognize iphone

I have the latest version of I tunes and Windows XP so should be able to activate my new iphone, however when I plug it into the USB drive nothing happens, the computer does not even acknowledge the phone. I know the USB drive is working becuase I just synced my ipod. Any ideas?

You must have iTunes v 7.5 for the iPhone. If you have not upgraded recently you should do that.
The iPhone also requires a new service, AppleMobileDeviceService. This is installed by the v 7.5 installer normally. You should verify that it is running in the Task Manager.
If it is not you can go to Control Panel/Administrative Tasks/Services. You should find it there (the entries are alphabetical), right click on it and select Start if it is not already running. If it fails to start your andivirus may be blocking it.

  • Windows 'My Computer'does not recognize iPhone?

When I connect my iPhone 3GS to me Dell Windows 7 laptop 'My Computer' does not recognise the phone at all whereas iTunes does. The system just opens an error window saying "Device Driver software was not successfully installed. Does anybody know a solution to this problem? Or of any other way to get my pictures off of my phone?
Also, when my partners 3GS is plugged in, he just recieves an error message saying USB Device could not be recognized, neither iTunes nor windows recognizes it.

I found a webpage where a user reported the same issue as me.
He said he determined that "foreign pictures" -- meaning any pictures not taken using the iPhone's camera -- were the cause.  Once he deleted the "foreign pictures" -- such as pictures obtained from receiving texts from others which included pictures that he saved onto the iPhone, then iTunes worked.
In my case, the fix was to upgrade the iPhone's OS from 5.1.1 to the latest version.
    Now, both issues are solved:
Windows recognizes the iPhone as a storage device.
iTunes can see pictures that I've saved on the iPhone.

  • Computer does not recognize Iphone 4 is plugged in to USB. Can't transfer pictures.

My HP laptop always use to recognize my Iphone 4 then all of the sudden stopped. I have been trying to transfer pictures and it does not see that any device or camera is plugged in to it like it use to. I have VISTA on my computer. When I go to My Computer it doesnt show anything is even plugged into the USB port. I tried all 3 ports on the laptop. The Windows help assistant talks about needing a driver..basically a software disc to load any new divice onto the computer. How would I get a driver for the Iphone?? I never needed that before. I could just plug it in and I would get the pop up asking if I wanted to transfer my pictures, etc.  This is so annoying!  I do back up to I Cloud as well.

Hi..Yes, I Tunes is installed on the computer. I sync with it no problem. I am trying to get the pictures from my Iphone onto my computer. When I use to plug the phone in I would get a pop up from Windows saying do you want to transfer pics to computer, do you want them to erase off phone once transfered, etc. Now I do not get the pop up. It is like the computer no longer recognizes that my Iphone is plugged in. Technically the pics are on my computer in the Photo Stream folder..but I want to actually transfer them off the phone. I have tried to turn off Photo Stream and I cloud but it does not help. The computer still does not recognize the phone plugged into the USB. If I go to "add a printer, scanner or camera" on the computer..it does not see it either. That is where it talks about having a driver to set up a new hardware device. I have 900 pics on my phone that I do not want to have to delete one by one...and I want to make sure they are downloaded. I also have videos that I want to download to the computer either and those are no where to be found..not even in the Photo Stream folder. I appreciate any help!

  • Computer does not recognize iPhone 4s?

I got my iPhone 4s back in October, and it worked just fine when syncing with iTunes and all that.  Recently however, like in the last 3 weeks or so, whenever I try to plug it into the computer, my computer won't recognize it.  It dings like I've inserted a USB, but it doesn't show up in "My Computer" or iTunes, and does not charge.  I have tried two different cords.  I tried plugging it in on my dad's Macbook, and it was recognized immediately, so I don't think it is the phone.  I followed all the steps listed on the Apple technical website, and nothing has worked.  I've restarted my phone, reset my phone, updated iTunes and restarted my computer, but to no avail.  I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W510 and am running Windows 7.  It charges just fine when plugged into the wall using the same cord.  Other USB's work fine when plugged into the computer.  Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

You might need to uninstall iTunes and all its components as described in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US, then reinstall the latest version of iTunes.  You must follow this article (installing all the components in the prescribed order) or it will not work.  Note: uninstalling iTunes only removes the application.  It won't touch your iTunes library or data.

    Hello @dazegoneby,
I understand that your HP Pavilion p6-2220t Desktop PC running Windows 7 used to connect to your home network without an issue, but recently it does not recognise the network. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection (Windows 7), which has steps to help resolve issues such as this. Now I am not recommending that you do the step that asks you to reset up your router as you have other devices that are working fine so that would not be the issue.
If the above document does not resolve your issue could you please re-post with either a screen shot of your Device Manager showing what is listed in Network Adapters or re-post with which wireless card you have.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!

  • Computer does not recognize iPhone 4s after 6.1 update

I updated my iphone 4s last night.  Now when I connect my phone to my computer to came up as an unrecognizable device.  iTunes doesn't show my phone either.  I need to be able to have my phone show up can anyone tell me how to get this to work again PLEASE!?!?!?!

What is DFU mode? I tried another USB port and another computer and it didn't recognize it either.  I didn't try another cable because if I use this cable and plug it into the wall it charges so the cable works.  The phone doesn't even charge when plugged into the computer.

  • Must have OS 10.6.5 to be compatible to the iphone 5 but the computer does not recognize the device

I downloaded OS X 10.6.5 in order to sync my new iphone 5 to my mac.  After doing so the computer does not recognize the iphone.  I switched the backup from iCloud to sync to the computer when plugged in but nothing happens.

If the Software Update application is not in your Applications folder, then apparently you've inadvertently done away with it. Downloading and installing the standalone Combo Update, as the previous poster has suggested, may install a new copy of it. If it doesn't, you can reinstall it from your original OS installer DVD using Pacifist:

I have an iphone 4 which quit working and I had my iphone 3 reactivated until I get my 4 replaced or fixed.  My computer does not recognize my iphone 3 when I plug it in. I also cannot figure out how to apply my last backup to my iphone 3

If your iPhone 4 was running iOS 5, you can't install iOS 5 on an iPhone 3G which means you can't restore the 3G from the backup of the iPhone 4 running iOS 5.

  • HT201263 My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine, but when I went back the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. What should I do?

My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine earlier, but when I went back a few hours later, the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. I thought it just needed to be charged but there seems to be a larger issue now. What should I do?

Let your ipod die. Then when it is dead charge it adn turn it back on. After that it should be fine.

  • Ipod touch will not turn on and computer does not recognize the device

I tried resetting my ipod touch, but there is still no response. I have had it plugged into the computer for a couple of days. I don't know if it is charging or what because the screen won't turn on and the computer does not recognize the device. I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes, as well as restarting my computer several times. Does anyone know what to do? I would try restoring it, but like I said my computer doesn't recognize it and itunes doesn't either. Thanks!

I just had a similar problem and tried all of the reboot techniques with no success. I knew it had to be a connection issue inside the iPod, and grasping at straws, I sprayed a little WD-40. I dried it off and let it sit overnight. Today at lunch I plugged it in to my wall charger and it began charging.
***FYI I know they don't recommend spraying WD-40 on your iPod, but it was a last resort for me. I was at the point of paying to send it in for repairs or throwing it away. I wouldn't try this unless you are ready to throw yours away too.
