Computer does turn on reliably, and turns itself off

I have a Mac G5 Recently the computer started turning itself off while I use it. Then sometimes it does not turn on at all, and if it does turn on there is always a prolonged beep before it boots up.
I replaced the power supply back in August; I am not sure if it is related, but the the computer worked fine for 6 months with the new power supply.

Hi there, sounds like the Logic board around the RAM slots...
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • Can I turn this pointless and distracting animation off?

In Mail, when there is more than one related message (or more than one duplicate message, as often happens with junk mail) Mail shows "threading" (not sure if that's the right word) where it displays the related messages one beneath the other in the same window.
Anyway, when this is the case, particularly when weeding through my junk mail folder, here is what happens: I click on the message in the message list and the top message displays, and this silly animation of the related message shows it rapidly sliding up below the previous message.
This happens every time I click a "threaded"(?) message, and it is very distracting and annoying. This didn't happen in previous versions of Mail under previous versions of Mac OSX, and it is NOT an improvement.
Is there a way to turn this pointless and distracting animation off? It's annoying enough to have to weed through all my junk messages periodically to confirm that they are indeed junk, and I'm trying to eliminate unnecessary annoyances.

  • Satellite A60-181 get warm and switched itself off.

Hope that someone out there can help.
I have not been able to use for a while my A60-181 without it being constantly plugged to electricity.
And it seems to get warm and switched itself off.
I have bought a new battery but I still get the same problem...and it is only 2 years old!
Has anyone any idea what I should do?

In my eyes this case is clear. Its a simply overheating. Usually the notebook shuts down automatically to prevent the notebook hardware from damage. Usually this happens if the notebook fans cannot rotate with full performance and speed.
The reason for such behaviour could be a dust and debris inside the notebook. Mostly after 2 years of working and suction the dust has a bad influence on the fan rotation.
The notebook cooling module cleaning could helps!!!
But if you have no experience please contact the technician. He should clean the fans professionally.

  • My iPod classic keeps jumping to the next track and switching itself off.

My iPod classic keeps jumping to the next track and switching itself off?

It happens randomly. I can be listening to a song, it finishes and then theres no sound. The track doesn't actually start at all. When i say skips i dont mean is in the middle of the song and jumps. I mean the ipod switches to the next track.
Format - All my songs have been ripped from CD's or downloaded from I-Tunes. I cant find the file type, sorry.
I had a look on the link but the symptoms dont link to mine. It happens randomly, not when im cycling or moving the divece nescessarily.
    Thanks

  • Does anyone know why imac shuts itself off when importing a cd into itunes?

very, very frustrating and disappointing.  trying to import a music cd into itunes, left room, returned to find that the computer had turned itself off, disc still inside.  started computer back up, cd was still on desktop, started itunes but the cd did not appear in itunes.  searched and found all but one song had been imported, directed itunes to import that one track and itunes ballooned.  had to force quit and force eject cd.  this has happened before, but not for a while.  i just don't understand why it just can't work.  this is supposed to be such wonderous, and awe inspiring technology (what a supreme joke!), and the only thing that any of this technology is good at is collecting information and advertising.  this is not just a mac problem, i've noticed that windows users are having the same issue.  ridiculous.
imac, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, mac os x 10.6.8 (i know, it's old, but should still work!)

    Hi again Susy!
As that website says, I would recommend following these steps to determine if there is an issue or not:
After listening to the example sounds, if you feel that your optical disc drive is making noises in excess of these examples during normal operation, please contact AppleCare for assistance.
Thank you for using the Apple Support Community. Due to the nature of your issue or question you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.

  • Battery Overheating, draining quickly and shutting itself off

The phone shuts itself off, at random times after I have locked the screen. I have replaced the sim card and SD card, didn't seem to make a difference. Now when the phone shuts off the phone (where battery is) is very hot to touch, and it does not hold charge well. Otherwise the phone runs fine (no app crashes or long loading times). Only had the phone for 3 days.

I have same problem and can't find a solution yet. Does your phone switch back on by itself about 2 seconds after switching off (while unplugged)?

  • Why does my nano iPod 7gen shut itself off during a pause when running

I am using the nano ipod 7th generation and nike plus. It  shuts itself off if I have hit pause during a run while taking a break. This is very frustrating because I have to start my run over, it also shows up as two runs in one day. How can I fix this?

I usually hit the pause. I have tried putting it to sleep as not to bump the resume workout on the face. This doesnt help either. After a few minutes when waking up the ipod it shows the nike screen and I have to start a new workout.

  • My iPhone 4 won't turn on and if it does it just freezes and turns off and won't turn off again. Has this happened to anyone one else? And if so how can it be fixed?

    Please help

    Start with this --> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3702
Next Restore the phone using itunes and set up as a new phone --> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If the problem persists you have a hardware problem.
All of this assumes your phone is not hacked or jailbroken. If it is all bets are off.

  • My computer  does not recognize ipod and ipod freezes computer

    This is how it stated:
Today, I charged my ipod on another computer, like I always do, the itunes is to early (like 4.0) to even recognize my ipod, so on the computer it is only hard drive. So, I used the little green arrow icon in the right bottom corner of the screen, as in ejecting a jump drive.
My ipod is at the main menu. I decide to watch a television show until...all of a sudden, it freezes while it is playing. I press, play and pause again. Now the audio plays, but the screen is frozen. So I press the Menu+Center button and the ipod turns off and the Apple icon appears. Usually when i do this, the menu comes back on. But this time, the screen said somethinglike "You must connect your ipod to itunes and restore it..." in about 5 different languages.
I get home, plug it in to my computer, I try to pull up itunes, it does not come up until I disconnect my defected ipod. Everytime I plug my ipod in, the screen just shows the ipod charging in the gray, dark version--no green lighting battery, its all gray and black. And by the icon in the corner, the ipod does not have a low battery...
    Can someone help me?

    Hello Hilda Louise
Start with the article below to get your iPhone to be recognized in iTunes again. Then you will probably need to restore it to get it back up and running.

  • My new computer does not have iWeb and I can't open the files from the old computer. What can I do???

I'm really desperate. I used to publish to a blog directly from iWeb, then I discontinued it. When I made the switch to iCloud, I wasn't worried because I knew my files would always be there. However, once I got a new computer, I transferred all the old files to an external hard drive and I thought everything would work just fine. Well, it didn't Neither can I open iWeb nor can I find my files.
    Can anyone help me please?

New Macs have not shipped with iWeb for over 2 years and Apple has not sold or supported iWeb for at least 2 years now - Apple stopped selling it and dropped support for it when MobileMe was ditched in favour of iCloud which does not offer hosting.
If you want iWeb, then you will need to have a look at your old installation CD's for your old Mac and see if iWeb is on these and you can then install it from there or if you don't have these CD's any longer, then you'll have no option but to purchase a copy of either iLife 09 or iLife 11 from Amazon - these boxed sets both contain iWeb 09, which is the latest version of iWeb.
Other than this and as you have not done your blog for sometime, perhaps you should consider re-creating it from scratch with a software that is actively supported and updated - that is NOT iWeb any longer.
You could try using WordPress, either .com or .org - .org is good if you already have hosting and you can install WordPress directly onto your server.  If you want something free, then you could use WordPress.com which is then published on the WordPress servers.
You could also take a look at EverWeb from Rage Software, which is very new and is very like iWeb with all the extras, such as drop down menus etc.  Take a look at http://www.everwebapp.com.
As for your files, it sounds that when you say files, these might be the published files for your site, if you went into iWeb and published them to a local folder?  This is not a backup and even if you could find these files, then iWeb will not be able to open them because it has no import facility, so cannot open an already published site - html and css files.
What you need is your domain.sites files which can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
I would cut your losses and if you don't have iWeb, then don't bother paying for software that is now outdated and unsupported - move onto to something new and re-create everything in either WordPress or EverWeb.
