Computer doesnt start up properly ?

Any help out there ?.
Had to unplug computer the other day ,as it was blocked and couldnt close down any other way . And since then doesnt start up properly, either takes a long time to start up or just remains with progress bar ,say looking for local discs .
I have it set to turn on automatically at 6.30am and this doesnt work anymore .
Any genius out there ??
Thank you.

Hello martin,
The first thing to try would be to reset the PRAM.
Resetting the PRAM and NVRAM.
If that does not improve things then run Repair Disk from your Install CD.
To do this: Insert the Install Disk 1 into the drive and then select Restart; when you hear the chime hold down C key until the apple logo appears.
This will take you to the installation software, but you do not want to install.
Select your language, then go up to the top menu bar to Installer and navigate to the Disk Utility application.
Select the start up drive, then go to the First Aid pane where you can click on Repair Disk.
If it finds errors, repeat the process until it reports no errors.
After these repairs, quit the application, and restart normally.
Once restarted normally run Repair Permissions from the Disk Utility application found on your hard drive in Application/Utilities.

OR WHAT CAN I DO TO RESTORE MY COMPUTER THERE IS A LOT INFORMATION THERE WHY MAVERICKS IS TROUBLESHOOTING.

Don't post in all caps.  Besides being more difficult to read it's tantamount to shouting and is considered rude in forums.  What problems are you having? What model Mac do you have, how much RAM and free space on the boot drive?
Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and try the following in order as needed:
1 - select Disk Utility and repair both the disk and disk permissions.  Reboot normally.
2 - reinstall the Mavericks system.

  • Did i lose all my files? since my computer doesnt start back up..

I live in a pretty humid place but never had any problems with my computer before. since two days ago it doesn't come back on. it shows a blue screen with a little finder-logo and a question mark- but it won't go past that. the computer makes a strange ticking- sound when i turn it on and it heats up really quickly.
I don't care so much if the computer is not going to survive but the information that is on there is so important, can i still save it?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, kikaway!
There are several options that may get the data off your computer.
    * Have you tried starting up from the original CDs that came with the computer? If that works you may be able to back up your file to an external storage device of some kind.
    * If you can get access to another Mac with a FireWire port, and a FireWire cable, you can may be able to start your computer in "Target Disk Mode" by holding down the "t" key when starting up. This will cause your computer to look like an external hard drive to the other Mac.
    * Someone with the right tools and skills can take the hard drive out of your laptop and read the data off onto another computer.
All of these options assume that the hard drive is still working, at least somewhat. Depending on how vital the data is to you, there are places that can recover data by taking apart the actual hard drive and putting the data platters in other drive mechanisms. This may cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. I have never looked deeply into it.
    Good luck.

  • My computer doesnt start up correctly

I have lion reinstalled since i had a trackpad issue and now after the restart i only get to the gray fabric screen but nothing happens from there, i can only see the mouse pointer and thats it.
There is no picture with a blank space to write my password anymore.
    What can i do????

I have tried that one too.  The only thing is that i press the option button while starting up in order to select the disk from where i want to start.
Having said that, I verified my disk on disk utility and it has no problems, i repaired all permissions, reinstalled lion and recovered lion from a previous version since reinstall didnt work.
I have done all of these and havent had any good results.
The only thing that i did before having this problem was that i reseted the pram.

  • HELP!!! Computer not starting properly

Hey, I can't get my computer to start up properly.  After I turn off the computer and try to turn it back on, the D-bracket shows the four red lights, which is supposed to be a damaged or incorrectly mounted processor.
I know that there is nothing wrong with the processor, because it has worked fine in other mobos, and I'm almost positive that it is installed properly, because I've had a bit of experience doing it.
To get the computer to start up, I have to detach the video card, turn on the computer for a few seconds, turn off the computer, reattach the video card, and then turn the computer back on.  It starts up fine after that.  What is the problem?  Any suggestions would be great. :O

P.S.  Everything has worked fine on a different mobo, the only thing I'm not sure of is the one I'm using now.

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the 10.10.1 update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My computer is starting to do odd things

My poor old computer is starting to act up. It's a variety of things. I'll list a few, but first my question. Are there some general things I can do to give my computer a good spring cleaning. I fill it up often and archive to external drive. I am a designer and have thousands of files from many years all over the place, but organized. It feels like I just need to clean out the cobwebs and simplify to get back in control.
First of all, stuff just seems slow. Searches are slow, searches are slow, files load slow, like big photoshop files. Sometimes I think it is just sitting there doing nothing (beachballsville as we call it in the office) and suddenly it snaps to and performs the requested task. Even if I clear up 15 gigs on the drive, it doesn't change things. So I don't think it's a pure space issue.
Finder searches will work after a restart, but by the second search, it brings back no results and just keep searching even when it should be hitting a million documents. So luckily I know when everything is organized. Especially when I try to do something like a "created on" date specific search. No dice on results.
Occasionally, browsing my disk in columns mode will freak out on me and the smallest of files will take two minutes to bring up the preview thumbnail. A restart puts things to right. But it's a pain when looking through files of images for a specific image. It's fairly rare for it to have this problem, but it consistently pops up every week or two.
Once in a while, Photoshop tools windows will one place on the screen, but when I click them, I see a ghosted box the same size as the toolbox elsewhere on the screen as though my cursor thinks its elsewhere on the screen. Again, a restart fixes it. It just seems like it had a brain ****.
Programs like Photoshop and In design can take many minute to quit unless I force quit them. They will say they're not responding, but eventually they will. So if I wait for everything to close properly, it can take 10 minutes to restart my computer for all the time it takes to close the programs. That doesn't seem right.
And when I'm doing a finder search, it starts searching before I finish typing, which would be find if it let me finish typing, but it does not. It will freeze up while searching and not allow me to finish the word until it comes back with results, so don't misspell a word and type fast, or I'll get lost in beachballsville while it's spining away looking for nothing of relevance. Can I make it wait till I'm done writing the search term and click "search". It would save so much agony.
Today my active screen corners stopped responding. Guess what fixed it.
Yeah, I probably need a new machine, but it really does work pretty well most of the time. It's just that when I come across these issue at really inopportune times, it's is no frustrating.
I'm hoping someone has advice, or has corrected some of these issues in the past. I looked around the board and didn't see something that made me say, YES! that's what's happening to me too!. But I've been wrong before. Thanks for reading my tome.

  • [Urgent] MacBook Pro is not starting up properly

I was recently doing work on photoshop and my MacBook Pro's screen went dark but the computer was still running. I restarted it and it was stuck on the grey screen after the apple logo showed up so I restarted again and notice the screen with the apple logo was tinted blue with small horizontal lines. After failing to start up properly multiple times I started it up in safe mode which worked but the were vertical blue bars then entire time. I later was able to start the computer up normally but the screen would glitch out and freeze after a short period of time. Soon even safe mode would glitch out if I did many actions quickly like open the dashboard multiple times or change spaces quickly and the screen would become a series of pixel wide blue and black vertical lines. What is wrong with my computer and how can I fix this so that I can start it up normally and resume work that needs doing urgently.
Here is what I have tried so far:
Verifying the disk in safe mode and nothing was reported wrong
Repairing disk permissions in safe mode
    Resetting PRAM
What can I do to fix this problem short of a full wipe or trip to the apple store as I am currently abroad. I also do not have an install disk on me.

    i had same problem...
    but
Macbook Pro is FIXED!!! FOR FREE!!! under warranty!!! Woooop Woooop!!
Macbook pro would not boot light on front and hardrive noise but nothing on screen...
So i took it to apple store and got seen by the head genius (hmmm).
And because it wont boot and they have the diagnostics to see if it is the graphics chip on a usb drive he could not confirm that because it cant read/start the drive... and told me he could do nothing and it would be a new logic board and cos i am out of warranty and applecare it would be £700.
    Morning!
So i took it to the "mac and pc centre" manchester a certified reseller service centre for a second opinion and see if they could repair for less...
So they confirmed the logic board needed changing but they asked apple if i could be done under warranty and apple said thats fine so its here after 2 days in the shop all repaired...i am happy...
Still gonna get a mac pro soon though..
    Cheers.. woop woop

  • The computer doesnt take Mac OS X disk 2 when installing tiger

the computer doesnt take Mac OS X disk 2 when installing tiger

Is it showing error message during GarageBand install?
If so, I had this type of problem, and solved it by restating computer in Safe Mode (to enter Safe Mode you should hold "Shift" button on start-up while Apple logo appears).
Only trouble for me - my MacBook display was so dim in Safe Mode, that was a problem to see anything on the screen. But still, there are only few buttons to click during 2nd disk setup and I guess that "dark safe mode screen" could be only Mac laptop problem.

    Hi angelogiuseppe9,
If you are getting blank screen after launching Creative Cloud Desktop app then deleting opm.db should help. Please delete all the contents from this location.

If you are getting Error 206 while installing then try to change the connection from LAN to Wifi and vice cersa. You can also try disabling your software firewall if any.
Please let us know if it helps

These are usually the features of a faulty battery. Restore iPhone Firmware with iTunes 10.7 or 11 on computer. See if better. If not, and there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution. If no Coverage, still make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple Store for free quick (minutes time) battery diagnostic testing.
