Computer dying when it still has battery life?

I don't know what's going on, my laptop is just shutting off without any warning and there is still about half of the battery life left. I will just be searching the web or chatting on AIM and it just shuts down. Any explanation for this or something I can try to prevent it from happening? thanks so much.

Once you're in System profiler, click on the first item in the list called "hardware", it has an arrow next to it and when you click on this arrow, a longer list should appear. Scan down the list under the hardware title until you see the item named "power", once you've done this, all the information about your battery will show up... it should look like this:

I placed the piece of information you're interested in, in bold. If this number is signifigantly lower than 5500, then you have a defective battery. Check your battery for bulging, or seperating, if there is serious bulging immediately stop using the battery as it could be dangerous. As said before, you will have your battery replaced free of charge by apple, as there was a silent recall for these defective batteries. I hope this helps.

I'll charge my phone up overnight then a couple of hours into the next day the battery wil be down to about 20% then it will say I only have 10% left even though I will have 20% if you see what I mean? And then to top it off it turns itself off and won't let me recharge!!
It did happen to my iPad the other week but that seems to be fine now.

Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • Why does my iPhone 4S ios7 sometimes brick even though it has battery life?

I know it sounds weird, but I have had this problem more than a few times since I upgraded my 4S to iOS 7. It will be working just fine, and then it will die. Kaput. Nada. Dead
It just did it within the past few hours. It was registering a 70% charge while I was taking pictures, and then it suddenly just bricked on me. I put it back on an AC charger as soon as I could (actually, the closest one was the one for my iPad Air), but it wouldn't even acknowledge that it was on the charger. No beep. No vibration. Nothing. I let it sit for about 10-15 minutes and then finally just held the power button down, and eventually after about a minute the bleeping thing gave me a white apple screen. FINALLY!! When the Apple screen went away, I looked at my home screen, and the battery was down to 40%. Really?? I didn't do anything!! It was freaking dead!!
Am I the only one with a psycho phone? Please, someone, say I'm not alone.

I usually hear about this when the user has done an over-the-air iOS update.  The only way to back out of it is through a firmware update or "DFU."
Connect to a computer with internet access and the latest version of iTunes.  Perform a backup first and you should be able to restore from the backup after DFU.
Press and hold both the sleep/wake button and the home button for ten seconds.
After ten seconds, continue holding the home button, but let go of the sleep/wake button.
The iPhone should go dark and you should see a popup on the computer.  It should say, "iTunes has detected a device in Recovery Mode. . ."  If there is no popup and the iPhone shows the Apple logo, you can immedeately try again.  It often takes an experienced user two or three attempts before the device successfully enters recovery mode.
Follow all of the popups and a new version of iOS will be installed.  If your issue was firmware, you should feel free to restore from the backup.  If the issue returns, that means it was a software issue.  In that case, you'll need to do another DFU and restore the iPhone as a new device.

  • After ICS update problems typing when plugged in, and battery life shortened, also Dolphin browser runs slow.

I did the update and even did a factory reset, and I am having
problems typing when plugged in to the wall charger, I get random keystrokes,
from all over the keyboard, not just the keys around the one i want to press.
Dolphin browser is running supper slow, especially when on Facebook. The
battery life has lost at least an hour.

Phones will do that when plugged in, esp with cheap chargers.. it has to do with the voltage and coveting and the digitized screen. You can google if you want more indepth there
clear data out of dolphin, check for update? also read comments on the app maybe it sucks on ics
battery stats got erased when you did a factory reset, give it a few charge cycles

  • After reset to factory settings, still terrible battery life.

My iPhone 4S 64 only six weeks old, but recently my battery life has gone from fair to totally unacceptable. After taking all the steps to minimize battery drain and then going through the process of backing up, I then restored the iPhone to factory settings. No change at all. For example, right now it is sitting without being used at all (yes, 3G and wi-fi are both on)*, and after 3 hours and 46 minutes since full charge (using Battery Doctor) the batery stands at 56% !
I a aware that iOS 5.0.1 is not kind to battery life, but I have had four iPhones and have developed a fairly good sense of what battery life I can usually expect from the way I typically use my iPhone, but this really has me stumped. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Many thanks in advance. pah
    * no push, manual fetch for all e-mail accounts

I had a similar instance where the battery drained by about 25% overnight. I had to "Reset all settings" and setup the phone as a new phone. After you restored to factory settings did you choose to setup the phone as new or did you restore from backup? I didn't choose to restore from backup because there wasn't a need to.

  • HT5047 my phone keeps cutting off when it still has 40-50% battery life

since i got the phone- i have only seen the battery meter turn red once.  Since then, it would get to 20% and cut itself off.  Now , today it cut itself off at 48%.  Why is it doing this?

Try recalibrating the battery meter... fully discharge (until it shuts off) and then fully recharge (don't unplug until 100%) to recalibrate the battery meter.  You may need to do this a few times.

  • My iphone 4 screen doesnt turn on i know it still has battery cause i can hear it when i plugg it i n to charge but screen its still black

  • I am 72. Old computer died. New one has Windows 7 Prof. Can I install Photoshop CS2?

I've been using Photoshop since version 4. Worked up to CS2, but not the suite. My old computer with XP died and the new one has Windows 7. Can I install it on the new one? I'm terrified to try because I am NOT a computer expert. Can I get help on this? Is CS3 (alone, not the suite) compatible with Windows 7? I only use Photoshop and InDesign and don't need all the extras. I went to a friend's house and tried Photoshop in her CS3 Suite. I can't figure out how to even cut things out using paths. Is CS 3 Photoshop (not suite) comparible to CS2?  Please help me.

do you own photoshop cs2 and indesign cs2 or a suite containing both?
if yes, you can go here: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l
and download the two needed programs (note the serial numbers on the download page) and download and then install the two programs using the serial numbers from the download page.
you can probably just install on your win 7 computer without using compatibility mode.

  • 30GB Ipod no longer has battery life

My old iPod (30GB) no longer holds a battery charge.  It drains to nothing in about 20 minutes.  It works fine when docked in a charger or in a sounddock the provides juice, but not so well during a longer workout.
    Any suggestions?

The Apple Store Genius Bar may still replace batteries for that model.
For a lower cost, or you could do it yourself, by buying a replacement battery for your iPod on eBay or other online source.  Be sure to get one that comes with a pair of the nylon pry tools.  NOTE:  Some iPod models are difficult to open, if you've never done it before.
Then, use online instructions, such as
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod_Original
to do the replacement.  There are probably YouTube "how to" videos as well.
Since it is fully functional except for a mostly dead battery, it might get you a reasonable amount for it on eBay.
