Computer freezes following itunes update

On 5th Jan 2011 I downloaded the most recent itunes update. Sine then my computer freezes when I open itunes. I have to force shutdown when this happens. What can I do to get this sorted?

The same thing is happening to me, every time I go to download more than one show in my itunes I see it get about 50% done and it freezes and it did not do this before this just started happening so I assume its from a recent update

    Hi Bourne23,
Does the issue persist after updating iTunes?
Download and install the new iTunes version 8.1.1, which was released today.

  • My mac air want shut down, had to force shut after computer freezing in itunes, box with saving itunes library has been up for 30 mins

I have had a day of it. wanted to join my new pc computer to my itune account. one problem to many devices on my account and two are ones that got broken and couldn't be deauthrise. sooo i deauthrised all computers. my mac air was sitting beside me so i thought i will authrise it again, was that a mistake as my computer became very slow when i went into itunes. it froze and not in the spinning disc way, in the was doing nothing way. held power button in, after waiting 10 mins and it went to gray screen with itune boxs saying "saving itunes library". its been doing this over 30 mins now and will not shut down or anything esle because when i try power button again it says i have not logged out of itune and should do this before it can shut down. not happy!!!! this is after 2 hours prior apple tried very hard sale to get me to buy there tech support for £100. I have never had a problem before, doesn't that seem strange?

Exactly what did you do to run Disk Utility and exactly what happened up to the freeze?
I called some place to ask for advice and they said it could be my logic board???
That's an easy answer to give but not necessarily the correct one.
If you have the system restore disc that came with your Mac, boot with that disc in the Mac while holding down the "D" key. That will invoke hardware diagnostics. Run those several times to investigate the possibility that your Mac has a hardware flaw.

  • Computer freezes when iTunes is started!

I have been searching for possible solutions of this problem for a long time but still haven't found anything really helpful. This issue should probably be dealt with by crew members of the Apple tech support. I want to try help them as much as I can. So, here is the common factors of this problem. Some people, as well as me, have an external hard drive plugged in when they start iTunes. I think that's the most significant feature I noticed. There are usually no other signs of that something is wrong. Computer just freezes when iTunes starts (maybe after a few seconds). Secondly, I noticed, that if I was working on the computer for quite a long time before launching iTunes, its almost for sure thats it will freeze my comp. If I start it just after booting the comp, it may work fine for a long time, maybe even without freezing.
I am very confused with this issue and I hope the members of the support will help solve it as soon as possible. I am seriously thinking of switching to another media player because I am quite fed up.

  • Computer freezes before itunes can open

I just tried to update to itunes 7.0.1 on my Windows XP Home computer. I thought the installation process went fine. However, whenever I click on the itunes icon or on any audio file itunes doesn't open. The computer just freezes up before the itunes program even loads up. I have done multiple hard resets and it keeps doing the same thing. Any suggestions??

    Hi,
Please read your manual, if there is a jumper the manual should have mentioned it. AFAIK, there is NO such jumper on this board.
You have another thread working on your 2nd question. Any further questions please follow the other thread. This thread is closed.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro freezes after iTunes-update??

Updated itunes to 10.5.1 last night and now itunes and my brand new Macbook Pro freezes whenever I open iTunes. I got it last week and it has worked perfectly, but now it freezes and has trouble finding the wifi. What to do?? Can I somehow undo the update?

Is this Java based game Runescape? I experience the same crashes, ive tried using other things in-game other than the OpenGl and i still experience crashes, much more often when i have iTunes running while trying to play. Ive never had problems like this before, even while using older computers with much less memory, etc.. This is my first mac and id have to say it's not leaving a good impression. I planned to be able to play some games on this and consider Runescape requires very low CPU this is kind of sad that a Mac can't process it without crashing. Ive been reading lots of similar posts online and it sounds like Apple should be worried more about customer satisfaction than their own stocks. Hope something works out soon!!

  • Unauthorized Computer After Latest iTunes Update

I just updated iTunes, and when I plug my 80Gb iPod in, iTunes launches and a message comes up telling me the computer is unauthorized and gives me the option to enter my Apple ID's passsword. I enter it, and get an error message:
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-42408). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.
Now if the iPod isn't plugged in and I try to authorize the computer I get a message telling me that it's already authorized.
Anyone else getting this error, and if so, were you able to fix it?

My solution was found here "http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11021537" but it looks like M1k3 found out that you don't have to play a song that's protected but just authorize after bringing up iTunes after ejecting the iPod. Mine is working fine after authorizing w/o the iPod docked. I even went so far as to unauthorize all computers B4 finding the solution.

  • All protected AAC files (older purchases) stop playing after a handful of seconds following iTunes update

So I just noticed that after upgrading iTunes to v10.6.1(7) every single older protected AAC files QUITS playing after a certain number of seconds.  The exact time interval depends on the album, but without fail, they all quit.  I recently upgraded to lion after a fresh install of snow leopard.  I had backed up the iTunes music folder on an external hard drive and imported to library after installing lion.  Very, very frustrating...

I seen this a few times.
Do a test, delete one of those files/albums. Then re-download it from iTunes in the Cloud.
I bet you the new DL will work.  If this solves it, then just remove the other older songs/albums, and then re-dl them from iTunes Store.

  • Following itunes update, PC won't recognise my iphone 4 - any ideas?

i've been through all the patronising stuff about checking it's connected to a USB and restarting PC..

My computer recently froze whilst updating Itunes, and has subsequently removed Itunes from my computer. When i have tried to reinstall the programme, i get the following error message "Invalid Drive:G:\" any ideas?

    Try the following user tip:

  • TS5376 For "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer", I followed the steps and there is no C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files..Also, after the update, I no longer show my disk drive when I load a CD.

After downloading the new Itunes update, my compter now shows error: "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer". I follwed the Apple fix / steps but it did not correct it. Also, after the update my disk drive is not recognized on my computer. If I load a CD, I cannot even access it.

See also Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes (similar to the advice above) and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies. E.g. TS2308: iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Distortion/stutter/computer freezes between songs with itunes 7.0.2.16

Everything was fine with itunes 6.x; then I upgraded to 7.0.2.16. Now when I play itunes on the Sony computer, for 10 to 15 seconds between songs the music is distorted or stutters when the crossfader is on. When the crossfader is OFF, then the distortion is gone, but the computer still freezes. Also itunes freezes for this time period. I have noticed the following: CPU usage shoots up from 6% to 70%. If I am using any other application (ie. program, email, etc.) it freezes for these few seconds. I have to stop playing/close itunes to do anything else on the computer. I have tried all the suggestions Apple has listed, Q time settings, updating the sound card driver, etc. to no avail!
The only solution I have found was to convert my itunes library to MP3, and created a play list in Windows Media Player. Every thing is fine, the music plays GREAT! itunes at one time was state of the art, now just junk!
Any help would be most appreciate!
SONY VAIO   Windows XP   iPod Shuffle; itunes 7.0.2.16, SoundMax Digital Audio

I am having the same exact problem. My computer freezes for 3-5 seconds when the song has about 5 seconds left. I think it may have to do with the new "gapless" playback. This is garbage, I can't even use iTunes anymore. Have you been able to find any answers. If not, I just want to downgrade, but I don't know if that is possible.
I tried to install an older version but iTunes said that I have an newer version of iTunes on the computer, which is true, but the new version, 7.0.2.16, is not working. I hope someone finds something back from Apple because I don't want to reorganize all my music due to their bug.

  • HELP! After latest update, computer freezes a minute after bootup

I have a G4 that I upgraded from 10.3 - 10.4.6. Everything worked fine for 2 days. Today, I tried to use Photoshop CS3 and it said that Adobe suggests that you use at least 10.4.8, so I checked for updates and it was to download the latest update for java, iTunes and the update to 10.4.9. Well, after installing the update for iTunes (that supports downloading to cell phones) and rebooting, now my computer keeps freezing. I can boot up into safe mode and everything works fine, but as soon as I boot back up normally, the computer freezes up again. Is there a way to uninstall iTunes? I tried installing iTunes version 6 overtop the new one, hoping that would fix the problem, but I don't think it took.
Any ideas? I've tried reinstalling the OS with the archive option, I've tried using a different mouse, but nothing seems to work.

    hi there guys
    hey Colin Moore perfectly told
but you should also try some basic steps first before taking a big step as doing an erase and install is going to be a pain in the neck though it sounds easy
i would suggest you to try booting in safe mode if it does work fine there then issue is most likely with start up items or stuff like that
also need to look more in detail to the situation
when does it freeze up, does it freeze up while on the grey screen and apple or login window or after logging in to your account
if it freezes up after logging in to the account then issue exist within user account most likely then best to try safe mode if safe mode does not work now you will need to think big coz the next step is doing an archive and install provided disk utility does not have an error if there is an error message then follow what ever Colin Moore has advised
