Computer freezes whenever I plug ipod in...

Evrytime I plug in my ipod nano to sync it my computer compleatly stops and has to be restarted in order to do anything. I cannot even hit the sync button because it freezes before I can do anything. Please help, i am very frustrated and have a brand new ipod i cannot use! Thanks.

I would see to reasons:
- either a firewall on your computer freezes it for protection purposes every time a device is connected to it. Normally it should unfreeze after that, but it might be buggy in your case.
- or your iPod is corrupt in a way that causes your computer to freeze. There are some "corrupted iPod repair tools", for example CopyTrans Doctor http://www.copytrans.net/doctor.php

  • Computer freezes when I plug in Nano

Whenever I plug in my Nano into this computer, this computer freezes. The iPod screen looks like it's only charging, without the "Do Not Disconnect" screen. I have tried plugging in the iPod into two other computers, a PC and Mac, and it worked fine for both of them, "Do not disconnect" and all. However, I have tried almost everything on this computer. I have disabled all programs that load at start-up, I have reinstalled iTunes about 3 times, I have restored my iPod twice and formatted it once through the "My Computer" window and I have scanned for both spyware and viruses. I'm going absolutely insane over this whole thing, as nothing seems to be working and this just happened unexpectedly for no apparent reason.
If someone could help me, that would be VERY NICE.

You probably have a drive collision on your computer: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
Be sure to only connect your iPod (to a rear USB port on your computer) keyboard and mouse, and disconnect all other USB devices, including printers, digital cameras, scanners, thumb drives, flash memory, external hard drivers, threshers, etc. prior to changing the drive letter. Also, if you are on a network, disconnect, and use a much higher drive letter like M or P or Z.
As for viruses, etc., make sure all of your antivirus/spyware software preferences are set not to scan iPods. If you are manually managing your music, or have enabled disk use on your iPod, you will also have to set it to not scan removable storage devices.

  • Computer freezes whenever I turn on screensaver, and . . .

System Preferences freezes whenever I try to edit/change the screensaver.
I have my mac set to "hot corners" so that if I drag my mouse to the lower right corner, my screensaver will turn on. I sent in my macbook a few weeks ago to have the optical drive repaired, and when it came back, I began having another problem:
Whenever I turn my screensaver on, my macbook freezes. My screensaver is set to mosaic pictures, I think. When I drag my mouse to the lower right corner, the screensaver doesn't start and all I can see is the time (if the time ever shows up). Then I shake my mouse, etc, to try to get back to my desktop and my computer freezes and I have to restart it.
So I figured maybe it was something with my screensaver, so I went to system preferences to try and change it. I cannot click ANYTHING beyond "screensaver" (which is next to desktop at the top of the desktop/screensaver window without system preferences freezing! I can't change my screensaver, I can't change the options, I can't select different pictures, I can't click anything without system preferences freezing, and when that happens I have to force quit the application.
Any idea what is wrong here? Has this happened to any of you? What should I do?

I started having a problem with screensaver immediately after installing a batch of Apple updates, including a security update, the JAVA update and a compatibility update to QuickTime, plus the Camera RAW Update, after which I could install the Safari update to 3.2.1, which I did. The computer freezes, evidently when attempting to end the screensaver either manually, by a mouse movement, or automatically when "time is up" and it is supposed to exit screensaver and put the monitors to sleep. I have been unable to determine the cause, though my suspicions are with JAVA and Safari, because I happen to know that those running the Safari 4 beta have a problem where any QuartzComposer screensaver will not work. However, I am not getting ANY log reports of any problems whatsoever. I've tried several different things but am still ignorant of what's going on.

  • Computer freezes when i connect ipod mini 4gb

i have a problem with my ipod mini 4gb (2nd gen.) for like 2months, it freezes when i connect it to my windows computer.
i tried to reset my ipod en reinstal itunes, but nothing worked. PLEASE HELP!

Hmm... See, I've tried that already (And just tried it again) and instead of allowing me to run it, the computer freezes entirely, just as it would if the "Restart your computer" message came up, only it doesn't show the text, and nor does the screen dim. The only thing I can do at that point is hold down the power button, thusly shutting the computer down. So I cannot restore my iPod that way. Are there any other ways? Or does anyone perhaps have any other suggestions?

  • Computer Freezes Whenever FCP exports

    Hey,
    I have a 1.4Ghz G4 PowerPC with 1.5 GB SDRAM, Max OS C 10.3.9 and FCPHD 4.5.
I am trying to export 2 short videos (one is 8 min and one is 3 min). I've mainly tried Compressor, however trying to export them as quicktime files basically does the same thing.
It will compress the sound fine, then at some point in the video compression the entire computer freezes. I fiddled around with FCP and changed a few settings which seemed to work, but then it just froze at a later point in the film.
What do you think the problem is and how can I fix it?
    THANKS!

  • Why does my computer freeze whenever I go to iTunes?

Everytime I open itunes or go to itunes store, my computer freezes, with the whirling rainbow ball.  It is driving me crazy, and yes I have up to date software

Because there's a problem - seriously with that amount of information to work with, what answer were you hoping for?
Does this involve iPhoto? If so:
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
If not, post in the forum for whatever software you are using, but remember to add that basic information

  • My Ipod Freezes Whenever i Plug into Itunes.

What do i do. MY ipod keeps freezing and i have to wait for the batt to run down before i can get it to work again. Then it happens after a few times later.
    What do i do?

Think I may have just solved it!!
Everything seemed to work instantly as soon as i unplugged my ipod so i tried putting it in disk mode(hold menu and centre until apple icon shows, then press menu and play/pause), then restoring it. Didn't work (unknown error 1415)
After, i right clicked my computer. Click manage. Click disk magage (page froze), put it into disk mode again (unfroze). Found my ipod. Right clicked (all quickly before it could freeze) on the name (just under volume) Click Format, make sure its "quick format" and formatting at "NTFS". Should work. If it doesn't, Try it again, faster.
Then open iTunes and click Restore.
    AND IT WORKED!!!
NB. I havent tried using it yet but right now im just putting all my movies back on it and it seems to be working fine. I'll report back if it doesn't work but if i don't, it did!

  • Downloaded iTunes, now computer freezes whenever I insert iPhone/iPod.

I recently updated to the latest version of iTunes and when I come to sync my iPhone/iPod Nano, the computer totally freezes (including mouse cursor and music).
iTunes support told me that it could be due to out-of-date drivers, however I've updated all my drivers and the problem persists.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

I have almost the exact same concern. Mine happens with just ITunes open or when device is connected. I notice that after I sync and remove the phone in a while my computer will lock up tight. I’m almost positive it locked up with just ITunes open and no device connected. You can't do anything! I have had my curser still messed up after reboot and had to reboot a second time to get things back to normal. I'm using windows XP SP3, Internet explorer 7.0.5730.13 and iTunes 8.2.1.6. It's getting to the point that I charge my iphone 3G from a wall charger because I need to reboot every time! If you’re having the same concern, please post! We are obviously not the only people with this concern. If enough people post maybe Apple will do something!
As far as having drivers out of date, which ones?! I have all the updates from Microsoft. There are way too many drivers to just start going through one at a time. Are we just supposed to update all of them or are there specific ones to look at. That answer paints way to wide of a brush stroke. Can anyone be more specific on which ones?
The other concerns I have is my phone is getting slower and slower. I can be texting someone and 4 to 6 letters are typed before they even show up on the screen! I can count to 5 sec or more waiting for simple things to open. I have also just restored the phone 3 weeks back or so for the same problem because that’s what all the post said and it did not help much.
I also notice that the service on the iphone seems to have changed. Before I had 5 bars sitting in my house and now I'm lucky if I have 2 bars sitting in the same room same seat. Not to mention that the network seems to be crawling! It's less frustrating to not use the browser and wait till I get home to find info.
I have to say that in the beginning I was such a sales person for the iphone! I have personally helped sell at least 7 iphone! I was one of those people you wish would just shut up about the new toy! But as time goes on it's really losing its luster! It seems that every time we get an update the concerns it add to the phone are not worth the updates! I'm finding out that I'm starting to use the phone for just a phone! (Don’t even get me started on dropped calls.)It's not going to be too long till the cost of ownership out ways the use.
I know these sound like a ***** session but I have seen post about all of these concerns at one time or another. You would think they would be addressed by Microsoft! I mean Apple. Just a slip of the tongue. LOL!

  • ITunes freezes whenever I plug in iPhone (but not when I plug in iPod)

Im using the 64bit version with my iPhone 3g

    See https://discussions.apple.com/message/16115658?tstart=0#16115658.
Appears to be fixed in 10.4.1 (at least for me).

  • Computer Freezes - have to plug in or remove drive to unfreeze.

My machine freezes at random times. I Force Quit the app, but it will remain in the dock...no amount of restarting the Finder or extra Force Quitting helps. I generally have had to hard reboot.
I have found since that if I disconnect one of my external drives (and it had to be a particular one), the apps would unfreeze.
So I bought a new drive and transferred everything across leading aside my "dodgy" drive.
Everything was fine until a couple of days ago when the problem started to reoccur, and today Ive found its shifted its attention to a different drive, a G-Tech pocket drive.
It seems to occur during some kind of Finder function, eg saving (V Annoying), reading a file etc. I'm using AfterEffects so there is a lot of disk activity - and I first blamed After Effects for the problem.
So every now and then my machine freezes and I manually disconnect my G Drive.
Bizarrely, the same problem can arise if the drive isn't connected and I have to reconnect it so the Finder can carry on its merry way.
I've seen a lot of posts concerning this area of the problem...
"Force Quit doesn't actually quit apps"
"Have to disconnect Time Machine manually..."
and many more, all without resolution. Although the 'solutions' seem to involve pulling out the drive, the actual fault seems to point fingers at particular applications.
In following some of these posts I have re-installed my system, uninstalled Logmein and opted out of using Time machine, but the problem is back.
I say there is a more general problem here, and I think it lies somewhere in the Finder.
I would be interested to see if anyone else is coming to this conclusion, or actually has a real solution that doesn't involve praying to a particular deity.

    OK

  • ITunes and Computer freeze when connecting 160GB iPod classic

    160 GB iPod Classic
    Model: MC293LL
    Version: 2.0.4 PC
    iTunes version: 11.1.3
    computers: 1 Win8 desktop,
1 Win7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1 Notebook
since yesterday I started having trouble with my iPod. When connecting it to the Notebook it showed a message: "There's a problem with this device. Scan the drive now and fix it". After clicking on scan and trying to fix the problem the notebook froze, so I connected it to me desktop, and it worked, it said that the problem was fixed. But when trying to open the iTunes it froze and after disconnecting it I realised the music was gone. So I connected it again, the same "There's a problem with this device. Scan the drive now and fix it"-message showed, but at the end the computer said it didn't detect any problem with the drive, so I opened iTunes and restored the iPod, and it worked but after that iTunes froze, then Windows Explorer and then the whole computer. Tried to connect the iPod to the Win7 Notebook and the same thing happened, first iTunes froze and then the computer froze, they both didn't show the blue screen.
What can I do? The iPod was already restored to the factory settings.

i had the same problem. all i did was download the newest version of itunes, which i had been putting off for months because it takes so long. after i did this itunes worked fine for me
    hope this helps

  • Computer freeze  when iPhone plugged in

    Hi all,
As you can see in description, we have had this problem many times at my job.
I'm in the IT-department of PwC, and the iPhone 4 is our "company phone". Recently we have had a lot of incidents where people's pc's freeze up randomly having the only think in common that the iPhone was plugged into the USB.
Have anyone else experienced anything similar?
    Best regards,
    Joachim Keittelmann

are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
