Computer froze while iPod plugged in -still plugged in

I had just plugged in my new iPod for the first time and after about an hour of loading the computer froze. It is still plugged in to the other computer (I have two). What should I do and what can I expect? I have not reset the computer yet, it is still frozen, and the iPod says do not disconnect.
Please help!

ok well for anyone who has the same problem, we left it plugged in, and restarted the computer, and the iPod is fine.

  • Restarting my computer even while other users were still logged in

Before updating to Leopard, I used be able to Restart my computer even while other users were still logged in. Yes, I would get a warning that others were still logged in and stuff might be lost in their environments, but for expediency I took the chance and typed in my password as Admin and was allowed to Restart.
This no longer works for me in Leopard.
I found a discussion about this same problem here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5752187&#5752187
Great -- But the solution that that thread leads to is to use the Command Line in the Terminal and figure out whether one's unix ID number jibes with Group ID or Admin ID etc. etc. -- yuck --
Sorry, that's getting a little too technical for me. Is there a GUI solution to this?
    Thank you.

  • Recover folders after the computer froze while moving them

    Hello,
while moving files from one drive to another my imac mid 2011 froze and had to be restarted. Unfortunately, all of the folders now can't be accessed. I can see them in grey in the destination drive, the size is the right one but I have no way to get inside the folder. I guess it must be in a cache somewhere. The folders are not longer in the origin drive.
Is there a way to recover them ?
    Thank you

  • Computer froze while download purchases....some songs are lost

While downloading the album "Broken Boy Soldiers" by "The Raconteurs" my computer froze and had to be restarted. When this happened, two of the songs were at the "processing" stage so according to iTunes they were already downloaded when I restarted, however the song files are nowhere to be found. When I did the check for purchases it started downloading the non-downloaded songs, with the exception of those two songs. How do I get them back?

  • Computer froze while updating. iTunes has disappeared

I was updating my iTunes when my computer froze and now my iTunes has been deleted and I can no longer reinstall. I have tried to download iTunes in the most updated version, but I cannot actually proceed with the download. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I have tried rebooting my computer. I have also looked in the Control Panel to see if the program was there, and it's as if the program has completely vanished from my computer. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

i assume your computer froze during the update operation, leaving your installation in a unstable state. after restart you are not able to access anything. if that is the case, i think the best option is to use a arch installation disk/usb to boot and finish the update.
    1. create a bootable meadia - cd/usb and boot using that
    2. mount the partitions
    3. arch-chroot to the mounted root partition
    4. run pacman -Syu
if the above is not the case, please give more details.

  • Help. computer froze while installing iwork08

    Hi
I'm really new to mac computers and I don't know how to fix a frozen imac. I bought it a few weeks ago and today i installed iwork08. I went to view the iwork tour and my computer froze and went to this dark screen with a gray box in the middle with the apple logo in the middle of this box. I don't know how to get out of this as nothing i do gets me out of this. I have no clue how to deal with this and help would be much appreciated! thanks

Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions!
The screen display you describe is not a common one,
and I'm not sure why the computer did that; but for a
start, you could see if starting the computer up from
off (press power button until the computer shuts off)
and after the start tone, hold the Shift key down; &
keep holding it down until after you get a screen with
your login window. This should say SafeBoot, in it too.
    Login, and let the computer desktop continue to form;
and then choose GO in the Finder menu bar, click on
Utilities folder, and when that opens, find Disk Utility,
and open it. Choose in Disk Utility the click on item
'repair disk permissions' and let it run through until
done, then quit Disk Utility. Restart the computer from
the menu beneath the blue Apple, and hope it boots.
You may have to use the OS X software disc1 that
came with the computer (a DVD) and start the Mac
from that system boot disc, to try and use a different
version of Disk Utility accessed in a menu bar option
beneath the Installer's menu bar once that disc boots
the computer. To boot from this system disc, you'd
need to hold the C key down on startup. Do not run
the Installer itself, the optional items are in a menu
that drops down from the main Installer header if
you click on the words along the top. Disk Utility is
among the options there. (To exit D.U., after running
'repair disk' - and also - 'repair disk permissions' you
would choose startup disk from a menu option.)
...If you have a wireless bluetooth keyboard, this may
not be possible. A USB keyboard is the best tool in
using keyboard commands on bootup or to run these
kinds of things. If you have a BT keyboard, get a USB.
{There is a way to run some system items from behind
the GUI by using something called 'single user mode'
but that is a bit deep for a first time user and better
    looked into before you have an issue, to learn about it.}
I'm not sure all of what could've been behind this issue,
or the resulting screen; and there may be something else
going on there. Most of that is uncharacteristic of Mac
OSX. There are preventative maintenance routines that
    should become a second nature to using this system;
and they will come with time. They forgo some issues.
In most cases, before and after installing software and
also when installing updates or upgrades to the system,
you would 'repair disk permissions' using the computer's
installed Disk Utility as found in the Applications folder
and inside that, the Utilities Folder. (To use GO is faster.)
If this works, to boot into SafeBoot, run Disk Utility's
repair disk permissions, and restart normally, that'd be
good. Otherwise, you could try several other things.
Including attempting to boot from the system installer
disc1 and choose Disk Utility from that Installer's menu
bar (drop down menu options) the use 'repair disk' and
also after that is run, use 'repair disk permissions.'
If there is a report of an error note that and run the
same choice one more time, to get a clear report.
When those are done, and if there are no bad things
in the resulting report window (just stuff fixed, etc)
then choose to restart from startup disk in the Mac's
own system, and see what happens...
To post here, what computer did you use? A Mac?
A helpful tool to have and use as part of a preventative
routine is free, and accesses the system's own tools
to run them from a nicer user interface; the one I like
runs free and is called OnyX. Titanium Software's site
has links to download the correct version for your OSX.
I have mine set to automatically restart after running a
selection I make from that tool's Automation section.
The preferences in there can be customized, also.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do i get the sound to play while the guitar is still plugged in?

I have my guitar plugged into the headphone input.  When I play the GB track it doesn't sound unless the guitar is unplugged.

What have you set as the audio output? Make sure you pick the internal speakers and not the headphones.

  • Computer froze while loading themes

I am new to IDVD. I have a few questions.
    1) I have a slide show created in iphoto 09 version 8.1.2 that I wanted to save with idvd. is it better to add the transitions and music while in iphoto or do that in idvd?
    2) what are the drop zones in idvd?
    3) last night i opened idvd with the slideshow. It prepared the photos and exported (222 photos no transition, no music.) I clicked on new project and it said it was loading themes. Well it never loaded the themes. It ran for an hour and 15 minutes and nothing happened. I had to force a shutdown of the computer. has anyone experienced this and how do I fix it?
    Thank you.

    Greetings,
    1) I have a slide show created in iphoto 09 version 8.1.2 that I wanted to save with idvd. is it better to add the transitions and music while in iphoto or do that in idvd?
If you are making the slideshow in iPhoto you must make all your changes there. Once a movie / slideshow from iMovie or iPhoto hits iDVD it is a finished product.
    2) what are the drop zones in idvd?
Drop zones allow you to customize the themes provided and add visual appeal to your project. Drag in a still picture or a movie and it will be added to the drop zone and play as part of theme.

If you are new to iDVD consider going through all the video tutorials as they give you a nice introduction to iDVD and it's features (not to mention the other iLife Applications): http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#idvd

  • Help! My computer froze and now my iPod won't turn on or be recognised/work

My computer froze while my iPod was plugged in. I had to shut down the computer by holding the shut down button and my iPod said 'OK to disconnect' and I then disconnected and it looked normal (on menu), then I turned it off, connected it to the computer (after restarting) and it didn't come up/work/be recognised in iTunes and after I did 'safely remove hardware' (which took ages) on the computer I tried to turn on my iPod and it's not working. It's not on lock and I've pressed all buttons, it's not working. Please help. This won't have deleted all my music, play counts and everything will it? Thankyou so much

Good news! I was so bored that my iPod wasn't working, I was going to read the Warranty booklet but instead pulled out the 'quick start' book and it said to hold the select and menu button until the apple logo comes on and it worked. My iPod's back alive and it seems to have all the music I put on there before the computer froze! Will it have lost play counts before that or not? It's not big cause I pay little attention anyway but it's still annoying

When i plugged my ipod into the computer it started to make buzzing and screeching noises. It became hot so i removed it and then the screen froze while it continued to make these noises. I have never had anything like this happen. (never gotten it wet or had it exposed to extreme temperatures) It is also unresponsive to any buttons on the ipod and it didn't show up when i plugged it into my computer. What do I do? Also if it is unfixable could i get a free one from apple?

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • IPod Nano 6th charging icon disappears while still plugged in

My iPod's charging icon disappears while it's still plugged in to my PC, as soon as I "eject" the iPod from Windows. So, to be as clear as I can (sorry for the repitition if you got it the first time - I just like to be sure): even though I have selected (either from iTunes or just via Windows itself) to "eject" a.k.a. "safely remove" my iPod from my computer, it is still plugged in to the USB port. The "Connected" screen is replaced with the menu, which is normal, but what I'm asking about is this: the battery icon in the top-right corner appears as though I have unplugged the device completely; the "charging/fully charged" indicator that I usually see when it's physically connected is missing.
So, my question is, is this normal? Could it be a bug in the iPod, or perhaps a bug in Windows 7? More impiortantly (to me), does the absence of a charging indicator mean that the iPod is actually no longer charging, even though it's still plugged into a powered USB port it was charging from only a minute before? I know my iPod never used to do this...

    hi thanks for the reply.
yeah i noticed that although it shows 'charged', it restores a tiny bit of residual charge to the battery, maybe 5-10% after being plugged in for 3+ hours. mine happens always however.
i've sent it back to apple and am awaiting a replacement (6-7 working days apparently) under warranty. hopefully the new one wont have this problem.
