Computer gets hot while recharging

I have a 13 inch macbook that just started getting really hot whenever I charge it up. The white blocky transformer thing on the cord gets hot and the computer gets hot.  Which should I try to replace first, the cord or the battery? (Not rich over here....)

Thanks, I have to call back 800 692-7752 - the hours are 6AM - 6PM Pacific Time. The recorded message reccommends the site https://expresslane.apple.com  - you need your device serial number for this.  It's a shame Apple placed this number under the tiny clip on the 6th Generation Nano.  (!!!)
Looks like I'll be waiting for the help line to open  :/

why is my computer getting hot?

You've left us with very little to go one. What model MacBook Pro do you have? There are now a number of variants with different heat profiles. Also, what activies are you doing on the MBP when the heat seems excessive?
How hot is "hot?" Notebooks run hotter because they have compact cases that cannot accommodate big 120mm fans like a desktop machine. The safety shut-down point (protects the processor from damage) is in the range of 200-212F. Under this is OK. Mine is running a processor temp of 135F while I post this
You need to get software that reports actual temps. The free Dashboard widget iStatPro is here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
and will give you handy temp readouts. Then we can tell if you have a heat problems.
The case bottom is part of the heat dissipation system. It's supposed to feel warm, just like the radiator of an automobile. You should always use the computer in such a way that air can get under the case.

  • Is it normal for my charger adapter to get hot while charging.

IIs it normal for my charger to get hot while charging.  Very hot

Hot/ Very Hot are very relative.
Its normal for it to get hot while charging, but if its really unconfortably hot to touch even briefly then there might be an issue.

  • My Computer Gets Hot To 90 C, Is It Because of my Case!?

Why does my computer get hot when I'm on Safari, Minecraft or any other iApps?

Temperature generated by your MBP is a function of the demands that are placed on the CPU/GPU.  I suggest that you do the following:
    Install istat menus:
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
Open ACTIVITY MONITOR to ALL PROCESSES and set %CPU to display values from high to low.
When you MBP gets hot. post images of the both applications mentioned for inspection.
Note that 90°c is not lethal and under certain conditions normal.  In addition, the MBP has circuits that will shut it down if the temperature become too high.
    Ciao.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset   >  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Backing up, Updating and Restoring  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • Gets hot while taking video and screen goes off so many times

gets hot while taking video and screen goes off so many times

Sounds like something is obstructing the proximity sensor on your phone. It is usually at the top of the display next to the ear speaker. You didn't say what you have. Usual suspects are a screen protector or dust.

  • Ipod touch 4 gets hot while using some apps like angry birds?

Is it normal for the upper back of the ipod touch 4 to get hot while using some apps like angry birds? Is this a potential battery problem? It doesnt get hot while charging or playing songs... Just when using some game apps.  I assume that it has something to do with battery drain, should I be concerned?

When the iPod is used heavily like for games it is norma for the iPod to get warm.  Unless you hav short battery life I would not be concerned.

  • IPad plug gets hot while charging

I have the 5 watt charger I have noticed it gets hot while charging is this normal I just upgraded to ios7 please let me know if this is normal?

Definitely not typical, bot probably normal. iOs7 uses more power than former versions, thanks to the continual use of Bluetooth, Backtround App Refresh, and Airdrop. Disable these functions, and post with your results.

  • My Computer Gets Hot and Doesn't Sleep.

Just recently, there was my computer has stopped going to sleep when I shut it. The only way that it will go to sleep is if I pysically tell it to. The other thing is that my computer gets EXTREMELY hot to the point where I can't touch the bottom of it even when I keep it on a flat surface such as a table or desk. I also noticed, that the fan does not go on when my computer gets hot so I was wondering if there was something wrong with it to the point where I need to get it fixed. In December I had to replace my battery because it mysteriously died after only being used for about 5 months from the time I bought the computer brand new. Any help you could give me would be great because if something is wrong I want to take it into the Apple store and get it fixed before something does go wrong. Thanks.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thin may be in but it's not necessarily where it's at! (depending on the application anyway).
I'd like to see apple introduce a workmans laptop along the lines of the toughbook, a lil' thicker for heat dispersal thus quiet operation for audi work, more rugged in build and i'm sure they can figure out a way to give it a lil' bit of that apple style too!
Not that they should replace the thin line of notebooks but offer something for those who need more of a workbook.

  • Should my IPAD  get hot while using it.

I have had my IPAD 3rd Generation for several months now, and all of a sudden is started getting hot.  I have look after it very well, and now I am concerned that it there maybe something wrong with.  I am on a TABLET plan with Telstra.  Can anyone assist me with this, will I need to get it serviced.
I turned it off, so it will cool down, recharged it, and it was cool, when I turned it on, after a couple of hours it was hot again.
Can anyone advise me on this please.

While hot is sort of relative to different people - under no circumstances should the iPad get too hot to handle. If this is what you are experiencing, take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • 17" MacBook Pro (2008) Getting hot while being used

Recently I have been noticing that my macbook pro is getting very hot when it get used, especially if it is used for video or for extended time periods. The computer gets very warm, almost hot to the touch, particularly above the keys and on the bottom.
I installed the iStat Pro widget so I could monitor the internal temps, and the CPU and GPU heatsink are approaching 175-180 degrees Fahrenheit quite often. Is this a problem? If so, what are some suggestions?

    you would probably have a better chance at advice in the macbook pro discussions;

  • Computer gets HOT!

I have my MacBook Pro on for about 20 minutes before the back left part of the computer gets extremely hot. It's been constantly updated, etc. Also, I've reset/shut down the computer for several hours to cool down. It still gets hot even when I have the brightness all the way on low and minimal activity going on. I still have a lot of space on the hard-drive, and I've even tried cleaning it out recently.
The computer is barely a year old, yet it still gets really hot. I've been told to prop it up so the fans can breathe, but it doesn't have any affect. My entire career and work is off of this computer (I've backed it up several times incase it crashes) but I wanted to know if it is normal for the MacBooks to get really hot.
    Thanks!

It is normal for parts of the MBP to get hot. In particular, the left rear corner gets hot when the battery is being charged or you're working the computer hard. And the whole machine gets hotter when it's being used in a warm environment than when it's used in a cooler one, so it will generally be hotter in the summertime than the winter, except when it's used in an air conditioned room.
You may want to update the system info that appears beneath your posts, since no MBP can run Mac OS 9.1.x and there has never been any 16" MBP. Click on "My Settings" in the sidebar at right, fill in the pertinent data, and then click the Save button at the bottom of that page.

  • Is it ok for my iPod 4g get hot while playing a game

Is it ok if my iPod touch 4g get really hot while plaing games?

It is normal for the iPod to get worm during heavy use like gaming.  If you are concerned, you can always make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
BTW, if you look under the heading on the right titled: More Like This, you can find other post on the same topic.

  • Iphone getting hot while using 3G

My iPhone4 is perfectly normal while using wi-fi internet connection, but it gets extremely hot while using the 3G internet services. Can anyone help me out?

It is normal for the phone to get hot when your using data such as YouTube videos, streaming music etc.. And as for the left speaker not working, the left speaker is a microphone, the right one is for sound. Don't worry, everything your iPhone is doing is normal.
