Computer Hard Drive Crash - Can i reinstall my ipod music to new HD/Itunes?

My hard drive crashed and i have replaced it. I'm afraid to connect my Ipod Classic back into my new download of Itunes. Will i lose my 30 gigs of music or is it possiable to transfer the music from my ipod to the new (empty) itunes?
I have put many hours of installing my CD colection into my old hard drive/itunes and would love to avoid that again.

Ok, I won't say anything about backing up, it sounds like you have learned your lesson. Anyway, forum regular, Zevoneer, has written a very extensive explanation on how to move your library iPod>iTunes. Please see Zevoneer's post on the following link.

  • Computer hard drive crashed. Need to transfer iPod music to new computer -- how to do this??

My Windows 7 computer crashed, and now I need to transfer my tunes from my iPod Nano to my new computer. I have both purchased songs and songs I uploaded from CD's.  Can anyone help tell me how to do this?  When I plug in my iPod the iTunes software only shows the songs that I purchased from the iStore, not the ones I uploaded from CD's.
    Help appreciated.  Gail

You can't do it without third party software.  Do a google search for 'transfer ipod to itunes'.  This is the first hit to come up, but there are others.

  • Hard drive crashed. can i reinstall the snow leopard disc from before even though it was a single user?

My hard drive crashed on my macbook about a year ago. I bought a brand new hard drive and brand new full install snow leopard discs single user to install on my empty hard drive. about a year later the hard drive crashed again, but it was still under warranty so i sent it out to get a new one. now when i try to install the same snow leopard disc, it says it can not be installed on this computer. I feel like I've been ripped off now, because i have no operating system on my computer and i already spent $129 on the snow leopard disc a year ago. Is there anything i can do to install this? I also have an iMac, I heard you can take the operating system from that or something? I just need my macbook back.

Is there anything i can do to install this?
Yes. Boot from the installation disc, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, select the internal drive, and partition it with the default options. Then run the Installer.

  • Hard Drive Crashed: Can I re-download my paid for songs from iTunes?

Recently my hard drive crashed and took my library with it. Can I re-download my paid songs from iTunes?

Be easiest to restore from your back up.
You do make regular back ups of your important files, correct?
iTunes Store Terms of Service allows for only one download.
You could send an email to -> iTunes Store - Customer Service and grovel at their feet and beg for a redownload.
However, if granted (or not), I would highly recommend you immediately learn how & start to back up your computer.

  • Hard drive crashed, can't reinstall iTunes

Here's the situation. I had two hard drives in my computer (running Win XP, btw), the one on which I had iTunes installed, but not the one that had the operating system on it, crashed. All data was unrecoverable.
Once I removed that drive from the computer, my machine ran fine. But when I tried to run iTunes, of course, it wouldn't run. So I tried to download and install it on my one existing hard drive (plenty of room for it). But, when I tried to run the installer, I get an error windos that pops up telling me that "iTunesMiniPlayer.resources is not a valid short file name" and the installer then "encountered errors before iTunes could be configured". At which point no further information is forthcoming and the installer shuts down.
I tried to use add/remove programs to uninstall iTunes, but when I do so, I get the "iTunesMiniPlayer.resources is not a valid short file name" messag again, as well as a "Fatal error druing installation" message, and the uninstall stops.
I used regedit to eliminate every reference to iTunes I could find in my registry, and still get all the same results listed above.
At this point, I am utterly baffled. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    -G

okay. let's try downloading and installing the Windows Installer CleanUp utility and using that to clear any leftover iTunes installation configuration information from the PC.

does that get you past the miniplayer message?

  • Computer Hard Drive Crashed - Need to Transfer from IPod to New Computer

The hard drive died on my old PC as I was transferring files to the new PC. Most data made it but my daughter's ITunes was not one of the things that made it. Fortunately the tunes all still exist on her IPod. How do I transfer them on to the new computer and ensure the music all makes it? She has a combination of music purchased from ITunes and music from CDs. Her IPod is an older mono screen model but I believe we had ITunes 6.x or later on the old machine if that makes a difference.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Computer hard drive replaced, can i retrieve previously purchased music?

Basically as above, my computer had major probs and had several pieces replaced including the hard drive. I have authorised it on my itunes account but is there any way to get my old purchased music back or will i have to buy them again?

Sorry, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items. It's your responsibility to make backup copies in case something goes wrong with your system, as unfortunately it apparently did in your case, and you lose all the information on your hard drive. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places. If your hard drive was erased and you don't have a backup of your purchased items, and don't have them on an iPod, you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your tracks.
If you have your tracks on an iPod or have them backed up, post back and someone here can help you get them restored. Otherwise you can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis, but don't count on it.

If you have a Mac, it's pretty easy. But you don't (should I make a pitch for you to get a MacBook Pro in the future)?

You'll need to get onto Support and explain, and if you have not made a habbit of asking, they'll reset your activations limit back to zero.  Or if you have only ever installed it once, you'll still have an activation to use.

My hard drive crashed and lost everything.  New computer with ITunes...I can't get my IPhone to upload/sync to the computer

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

Content purchased from iTunes can be redownloaded.

iTunes purchased content on the device can be transferred to the computer, simply connect the device.  Do not Sync!  Select File > Transfer Purchases.
The best solution is to use the backup of the computer to put everything back.
