Computer has stopped working

hi
i was playing championship manager on the computer when the screen cut out and went black. couldn't restart my computer and had to just turn the power off.
my motherboard is a kt3 ultra, with the latest bios. has a athlon 1700xp chip, with 512 mb of ram.
the d-bracket on the back has all four leds showing red instead of green and my manual tells me this is a processor problem. with that in mind, i re-sat the processor with some fresh heat paste, but still no joy!
has my motherboard gone t*ts up or is there a solution out there?

when i re-sat the processor, yes i did clean the centre of the chip and wiped the bottom of the heat sink too.
on reflection, when i power on the motherboard fans, lights etc work, but the drives don't. could this be a psu problem, with low power still working to power the basic components, but needing a higher output to power the drives?
psu specs are:
JJ-350AP (12V)
350W MAX Active PFC
Voltage 230v-
Current 5A
Frequency 50Hz
Hardware:
Audigy Soundcard
Geforce 3 Ti 200 Graphics Card
Floppy Drive
DVD-Rom Drive
CD-RW Drive
have had these components for years, so i don't think the 350w limited is the issue. i'm just praying it's the psu that has failed at higher ouput levels, meaning the motherboard and drives are effected and basic lights work.
does this sound the case?

Photostream to my Windows 7 computer has stopped working. When I open icloud control panel, photostream has become unchecked even though it has been previously checked. I check it again but when I click options, nothing happens. I click apply and close, but next time I open the control panel, Photostream has become unchecked again. What can I do?

    Lisaglenoak:
When I first downloaded iCloud to my PC a little while back, Photo Stream initially worked. I was able to check/uncheck both boxes available to me, as well as click the Options tab to the right of Photo Stream. I could make changes, click "Apply", and everything was fine and dandy.
Within a day, I opened the iCloud Control Panel, and despite how many times I would uncheck Bookmarks, it didn't matter. I would click "Apply", and it would automatically ask me to sign in again. When I did this, Bookmarks would be checked again. Additionally, Photo Stream was grayed out; I was unable to check the box (which was unchecked), and I was unable to go to Options.
Somehow, I managed to get my iCloud Control Panel "unstuck", and currently, it is working fine. There are 2 steps that I did to accomplish this. The 1st step listed below may be the crucial element for those whose reinstallation of the program has not succeeded, in and of itself. It is a change that I haven't come across as a possible part of a solution to this problem; I just happened to stumble upon this whilst searching my PC for possible fixes to the problem.
Step 1: Find your iCloud File Folder. (On my PC, I clicked the Start button in the lower left corner, then clicked All Programs, and finally scrolled down to where all the folders for various "things" are.) Click the Folder and a sub-list will appear, with items such as Calendar, Mail, etc. Right-Click the iCloud Program icon, and at the bottom of the list that appears, click on Properties. At the top, there are 5 tabs. Click the Compatibility tab, and you should see, at the top, the following words: "If you have problems with this program and it worked correctly on an earlier version of Windows, select the compatibility mode that matches that earlier version." Following these words is a dropbox underneath "Compatibility Mode", and for some reason - I have no idea why this is - the box was initially checked to run the program in compatibility mode for "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". (And from what I understand, Windows XP is not a compatible Windows Edition for iCloud, so I have no idea why this box was checked.) If the box underneath "Compatibility Mode" is checked, than it is running iCloud in compatibility mode for any number of earlier Windows' Editions. Uncheck this box, click the "Apply" button, and then click "OK".
Step 2: Find your PC's Control Panel. (On my PC, I clicked the Start button in the lower left corner, and then clicked Control Panel in the list to the right.) In the Control Panel, click Programs. Under Programs and Features, Click "Uninstall a program" (and bear with me here, because you are actually not going to uninstall iCloud). Now, scroll down the list and find "iCloud". Double-click the "iCloud" icon, and a panel with 2 options should appear: "Repair" and "Remove". Check the "Repair" box, which will reinstall the same iCloud Control Panel, replacing missing or damaged files. ("Remove" will just .. well ... remove iCloud from the computer - or, if you prefer, uninstall the program.) Click Next, and the repairing process will begin and end. And that is it - you're done. Task Completed.
Well, in the end, this worked for me. Photo Stream was no longer grayed out. I could permanently uncheck Bookmarks (finally). The Options tab for Photo Stream would open. Anytime that I clicked the "Apply" button after checking/unchecking boxes, it wouldn't ask me to sign in again (only to come back to a Control Panel that looked just like it did before I made any changes to it.). And, I created a Shared Photo Stream on my phone using photos from my Camera Roll (to test the program), and the Shared Photo Stream appeared on my PC's Photo Stream in no time. Hopefully, this will work for you too (regardless of the Windows Edition you are currently using).     ~ Brian

  • My speaker on the left side of my computer has stopped working.

The speakers on the right side of my computer has stopped working properly. I have checked the balance and tried to trouble shoot the problem but nothing has worked. I now think that it is a hardware problem. What is my next step.

I Assume that you are talking about the "All Inboxes" mailbox where you can tap to see every email in all of your email accounts. If it disappeared, tap the Edit button at the top of the window, then look for it in the next window. Select it by putting a check mark next to it, then tap Done.

  • Q10 synching to my computer has stopped working -why

can anyone suggest why something that was working has just suddenly stopped? Neither calendar nor contacts are now being applied to the Q10. My PC is a Dell machine running windows 7 and everthing was fine one day and then not the next day. Backing up the Q10 to the PC still seems to be working perfectly well. Hoping someone has some ideas?

Did you make any changes to your computer the day before or on the day it stopped working, such as Windows updates, add a new program, delete a program, run a scan.
What is your anti virus program, do you use any registry editors, or other security programs.
Can you think of some other info that might help diagnose the issue. Which browser do you use as the Default.

  • VNC to my 91 year old Mom's computer has stopped working

I have managed my Mom's Mac Mini desktop remotely for a year or more now.  She is 500 miles away and is 91 years old so my connecting to her machine remotely is important to do the stuff she should be bothered with.  Our connection has been rock solid for all this time but suddenly it stopped working.  Here is the setup that has worked for a long time.  Some of this Mom helped me troubleshoot using Skype.  Bless her heart, she hung in there with me.
She runs Leopard on her machine and I run Snow Leopard on my IMac.
I have VNC sharing setup in her sharing settings under network preferences.  It has the same password I have been using for all this time.
I have Vine Server setup to start at login on her machine.
I have been using DynAlias to convert her Dynamic DNS into a domain name.  This has worked for a long time.
I have tried connecting to her machine using the DynAlias domain as well as the IP which she has gotten for me by going to IPChicken.com
I have tried to connect using the same VNC client I have used for all this time which is RealVNC viewer.
Tonight I had her copy and paste the Vine Server log into an email and send it to me. As far as I can tell it is waiting for a client to connect.  We have restarted the Vine Server but that has not helped either.
Any thoughts or advice?  I have racked my brain on this one and tried to eliminate things one at a time.  This all started a couple of weeks ago and I have been trying to solve it ever since.   Thanks for any help.
    Bob

Before I play 20 questions, might I suggest you try using TeamViewer.com.  It is free for your type of usage.  It does a very good job of working with home routers.  You do not need to worry about maintaining a dynamic DNS name.  It can be configured for unattended access at your Mom's end.  It might make your life a lot easier.
And if you still want to continue with your VNC access, you can use TeamViewer.com as a backup so that you Mom does not need to follow your instructions.
Does your Mom have a home router?  Is Port 5900 Port Forwarding still setup?  You might try Applications -> Utilities -> Network Utility -> Port Scan, enter your Mom's router IP address or dynamic DNS name, and port 5900 (this assume you are using port 5900, if not, then whatever port you are using).
Have you looked at the /var/log/secrue.log files?  Then again, these are generally protected from normal access, so you Mom may need to use her Admin password.  Applications -> Utilities -> Console might be the best way to access them.
Have you tried alternate VNC clients.  Just as an experiment?  "Chicken" comes to mind, as well as the built-in Mac OS X Screen Sharing client (Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server -> vnc://moms.ip.address:5900)
By any chance, has your Mom's System Preferences -> Security -> Firewall been turned on?  If you normally have it enabled and it has not bothered you in the past, can you disable it as an experiment to see if anything changes?
NOTE:  I do something similar with my Mom (in her 80's), in fact I just installed the latest Mac OS X security update this afternoon.  I've been using the build-in Mac OS X Screen Sharing server and clients on both ends.  But before that I was using the Vine Server and Chicken of the VNC.  In my case I also use an ssh tunnel for security, but that is a side issue, and if you cannot make a VNC connection, it is unlikely you would be able to make an ssh connection.

  • Scan to Computer has stopped working

Can no longer scan to the computer. Scan to Computer error message is  "an error occurred while communicating with the scanner".
Am using Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite.
Printing from computer and ePrinting is working.
HP Utility says Driver is HP Inkjet 8 Driver 4.2.4
I used HP Help to download SW OSX Mavericks, which I was guided to by the site. (shouldn't it be Yosemite?)
I rebooted the Mac, but still not working.
Would appreciate help to fix this problem.
PS I did not UNINSTALL the HP software as I'm worried about losing my registration etc
    Thanks
    BVM1

Welcome to the HP Community @BVM1 ,
I understand you can no longer scan to your Mac from your Photosmart 6520, and I hope to help you resolve this issue. For starters, you will not loose your registration if you need to uninstall and reinstall the printer.
Try power cycling the network devices:
Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer and test a scan again.
If the scanning still does not work, try these steps in the order I wrote them in:
    Reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Download and install the Full Driver for Yosemite here: HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer
In addition, download this driver: HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X
Scanning should now work, fingers crossed!
Please respond to me with the results!

  • Keyboard on my HP pavilion slimline desktop computer has stopped working

When I powered up my computer yesterday, I noticed a brief message screen load up and I noticed keyboard error. It continued to load with my screensaver and then my windows password screen appeared. Mouse is functional. Keyboard is not working at all. Disconnected the keyboard into another USB port and tried to reboot. Same result. Keyboard does not work and I cannot even log into the windows password screen to even do a diagnostic check on my computer. Is my keyboard corrupt? Do I just need to purchase another keyboard?

    Hi,
My suggestion: borrow keyboard from relatives or friends and try again. Machine should beep when booting up if no keyboard and pumping out a message. Please also take few checks as mentioned on the following link:

Oh dear must have totally stuff up....I thought I turn on my firewall and there was encryption I must have turn on. Then my computer turn restarted and everything slowed down... I thought must have been because I turned the firewall on so I tried turning it off...to no avail....it still slow...now this was 2 days again....today I turn on commuter to tried and see, half hour later it off and blank!!!!!!,
Omg what going on? How can I turn this back on?
    Please help help help...,,

How old is the TC?? The LED should never go solid amber.. that indicates disk failure.
Or completely out.. that indicates power supply failure.
As a note you cannot extend wireless to a non apple wireless router... you can only plug in by ethernet and use the TC to create a wireless network.. this can have the same name as the main router,, same SSID in other words and same security but set to different channel..

  • The sound on my laptop has stopped working entirely, with and without headphones.  What should I do?

The sound on my computer has stopped working.  I have searched through countles google entries to try and figure out the problem but I can't find anything remotely useful.  I never spilled any liquid or anything on my computer.  I was just searching through youtube and when I clicked a video there was no sound.  Then I checked iTunes and tried to play some music, still no sound.  I played around with the preferences and volume control, still no sound.  If you have any advice please help.  Going to the apple store is so expensive and I don't have the time or money.

Did you try resetting PRAM and SMC?
Is there any red light visible in the headphone port?

I have itunes on my computer and haven't used it for a while and went to click on shortcut and got message that it has stopped working so tried to update, followed all promptsd and it said it had been installed but when i clicked on shortcut again came up with same message. I have tried to uninstall and re install still get same message. Don't know why or what to do? Also tried to set up my dads Ipod Nano on his computer and it wont accept the Australian area code? ????Help Please going insane

Does iTunes not see the phone?
If not, make sure you're running the current version of iTunes.
If you are running the current version and it still doesn't recognize it, see this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
As for iPhoto, you will have to purchase a newer version. It's not a free upgrade. Or, you can use Image Capture, which is built into OS X, to import the photos.

  • Message "itunes has stopped working". Itunes opens and can read an audio cd but as soon as the "get information" option is selected the message "itunes has stopped working" and the computer freezes or at least slows to a snail's pace.

    Hi,
I have a PC running Windows 7 - 64bit OS. I have had iTunes installed since the beginning of the year on this computer and have not had any trouble with it except actually using iTunes but that is a different issue. The other day I inadvertently downloaded "Tuneup" which I don't want or need. I firstly want to say I have no concrete evidence that Tuneup has led to my problems. It may be coincidental that Tuneup and my problems appeared together.
Tonight when I started iTunes, Tuneup took over a quarter of the screen on the right side. I closed this program. When the list of tracks was ready to be loaded from the CD and I went to" file" - "get info" option the message "iTunes has stopped working" would appear. Closing this message resulted in iTunes shutting down. I should say that before I closed the message the computer had essentially ground to a halt. The other curious thing was the behavour of the mouse pointer on the screen - the only place where it was visible was in the "iTunes has stopped working" box. Moving it out of the message box resulted in it disappearing. It would reappear if it were caused to wander into the message box.
I subsequently removed Tuneup (control panel, programs and features, etc...) iTunes had not improved. I then deleted iTunes, firstly saving the library to a file on the desktop. Then I did a fresh(?) install of ITunes but there seems to be no change. A curious thing was even though I had deleted iTunes through the control panel the library was still there as if I had done nothing. The whole thing is a complete mystery and extremely galling.
If someone has had a similar problem I would really like to know what the fixes were.
    Thanks for "listening".
    Cheers,
    Grant Andrews.

I had a similar problem. I'm using 64bit Windows7. The following solution worked for me:
    COPY    QTMovieWin.dll
    FROM    c:\program files (x86)\common files\apple\apple application support\
    INTO     c:\program files (x86)/iTunes
Also, reinstalling Quicktime has worked for others having this same issue.

  • Itunes will not open on computer says it has stopped working and it must be closed. My computer tells me its an incompatible app. Is there a problem with the new itunes or is it my computer?

I have recently downloaded the new itunes. My computer will open itunes but then a screen pops up that says Itunes has stopped working and must close. This happens every time and i can not by pass it. I am afraid all my music is gone as well. I found on my computer that its an incompatible app. What does that mean exactly? Was itunes installed incorrectly? I have had itunes on my computer before and worked just fine and had no problems. Is it possibly a computer issue or Itunes? Need help thanks

Not completely sure. But if you think it is an iTunes issue...... follow through this: Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
ALSO, if you feel like all your music will be gone as well follow through these 2:
    > Downloading past purchases from App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    > How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
IF YOU THINK ITS A COMPUTER ISSUE, RESTART YOUR COMPUTER BEFORE DOING ALL THIS.

Or better yet... try a search, I'm certain you'll find a solution to whatever issue you're experiencing.
