Computer isnt recognizing ipod, and displays weird picture

Hi,
I have both a 60gb video ipod, and a 15gb 3rd generation ipod. The other day i decided to use my 15gb ipod, so i plugged it into the computer, and it said i had to like format it.. or whatever it is that deletes all the songs, so i did. Now when i plug it into the USB cable all it does is shows the apple icon, then shows a picture of the USB cable. I tried charging it with my wall charger and it won't even charge. also when i plug it into the computer it says "USB device not recognized". But when i plug the 60gb ipod in it works fine. I have also tried resetting it by locking it, then pressing menu and pause, and that hasnt worked. Does anyone know what i can do to fix this problem i'm having? thanks!

If you cannot reset the iPod, let it drain the battery then fully charge it on an ac adaptor, then reset it before connecting it.

  • Computer not recognizing Ipod and my ipod freeze

My ipod used to work quite fine, but not from today. When I plugged in my Ipod and load up my batteri, it worked as normal. Then when i unplugged my Ipod, it still says, that it is connected to the computer? I can't turn it off or start it. My computer also now tells that it can't recognize the software and my itunes can't find my Ipod either. Any suggestions to make it work again?
    Thank you

First try updating iTunes to version 7.0.2.
    Here's the iTunes download.

Im switching email accounts on my itunes account am the computer isnt recognizing purchases made from my other account on the new one (apps). How can I sign in with my new account and get the purchases apps on both accounts?

This was EXACTLY what I needed about the purchases I made from my device. However, is there a way to re-download other ones you've made from a computer? Because I realized some of them were not just purchased from my device.
This is a picture of what it looks like now:

As you can see, the stuff circled in red doesn't give me an option to download from Cloud Beta because it already says "downloaded".
any way to get around that?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • Itunes & Computer not recognizing Ipod

Since we purchased them in December, my wife and I both have both been using our iPod 2nd generation Nanos(2 GB)with our laptop. Suddenly today her iPod is is no longer being recognized by ITunes and the computer.
Her iPod doesnt show up in "My Computer" or the Device Manager. Since it doesnt show up in ITunes at all, I can't force a sync. My iPod is still recognized, so it is not a problem with the USB cable or the USB port.
How can I get ITunes and our computer to recognize her Ipod again-? Is there any other way besides resetting it-?
    Thanks~~

    Try looking into these articles:
iPod doesn’t show up in My Computer or in iTunes
iPod not recognized and Windows Device Mnager is empty
Also, it's possible that this is being caused by drive letter confusion. If the above articles don't seem to help, you might want to try assigning your iPod a different drive letter, following the steps here:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive
Then, after you've done that, disconnect your iPod, and reconnect your wife's iPod to the computer, and see if it is recognized.

  • Other computer not recognizing Ipod touch

I gave my ipod touch 4th generation to my brother.  I reset it before I gave it to him but his computer doesn't recognize the ipod and neither does my dads computer.  My brother has a macbook and my dad has a mac desktop.  What could be causing this?  How do I fix it?

    See:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
You should have iTunes version 10.7 or later on the iPod and that requires OSX 10.6.8.
Hower, you shuld be able to sync (but not restore) the 4G with OSX 10.5.8 if you have iTunes 10.6.3

  • Itunes store account for an iphone my friend created an account also in the same computer for an ipod and now it the ipod keeps getting all my personal data from my iphone how can i that  both devices sync in the pc

hi , can any one help me with a problem ,,, i own an iphone 4 and creates my account in itunes months later my friend bought an ipod and created an account also but created in my pc and  now both get sync in the same pc and all my personal data from the iphone 4 keeps getting copy and the ipod gets it and have acces to my personal data and apps gets my mail etc , can any one help me with this issue?
    thnk you

Sorry to hear of your problem, but any hardware in a computer can fail - that includes the hard drive, the logic board, etc, etc. Fortunately, it usually doesn't happen that soon; however, I've read of hard drives failing within 6 months.
So, since you did not purchase the extended Applecare Protection Plan (3 years coverage), you will need to make a decision to repair or sell it as is. I would always purchase 3 year coverage for an all in one or a laptop because repairs are expensive and at least I'd be covered for 3 years.
We can't speculate on whether there should be a recall or not; these forums are for user to user assistance with technical problems. In your case, there is nothing we can help with since you've already gotten a diagnosis.

  • FOUND A FIX FOR COMPUTER NOT RECOGNIZING IPOD!!!

I have read several threads over the past week relating to the issue of iPods not connecting to the computer. The specifics were:
    1. iPod not appearing on desktop
    2. iTunes did not recognize iPod
    3. Disk Utility and iPod updater did not register that iPod was connected
    4. THE IPOD DID CONNECT TO ANOTHER COMPUTER!!!! (I would recommend trying this if you can, if it does connect to another computer you can isolate that it is the computer not the iPod causing the problem)
I really did not want to restore my iPod or reinstall system software, but after reading a suggestion about resetting PRAM, I thought I might as well give it a try, as nothing else was working. IT WORKED!!! And it was only at the cost of resetting my computer's clock, even better!!! If this solves your problem please post here to let me know.
If you dont know how to reset your PRAM check out this link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238

Good call, resetting the PRAM and NVRAM did the trick for me! I got some message about a new firmware that I should install on my iPod, and then after that I got messages saying that my computer couldn't recognize my iPod, and that I needed to initialize the disk.
    Your suggestions saved me!

  • Computer not recognizing ipod after crash

My computer crashed and it was wiped clean-so basically I have a new computer. I have itunes on my computer and I was able to recover most of my music. When I plug in my ipod to the computer, itunes says it's not registered to that computer. How can I get it to work with this computer again? Right now, when ever I want to sync it, I need to completely erase everything on the ipod and resync all of my music and apps-it takes forever. Can anyone help.....please?
    Thanks!

Can't really help. The iPod thinks it is a new computer and you can only sync to one computer. If you have the backup of the iPod you may be able to restore from backup so you will not lose any data you have in apps and your settings. Restoring from backup will still result in have to sync all the music back to the iPod.

  • My computer not recognizing Ipod music file

My computer crashed and I got another one. Now I want to copy the music from ipod to my computer so when I sync my ipod to the new computer it erases all items on ipod. When I hook up ipod on computer I go into my computer file, click on the F drive and there is no music file in there but when ipod is playing I have 1700 songs. I don't want to lose all this music as that's exactly what will happen if I sync to itunes on new computer. Also if I hook up my husbands ipod and go through same procedure his music shows up in the F drive.

    Hello mshell1271,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your iPod's Music is located with the iPod_Control folder that is hidden by default. So the first thing you'll need to do is enable hidden files and folders on your PC. Here are instructions on how to do this.
