Computer location is not accurate

My Macbook Pro's location continues to default to some place called "Conway, Illinois". It should be Seattle, WA. I have a solid internet connection and my computer can be found on "Find My Mac". What's it take to get Location Services to work?

The Apple database to be updated to reflect the correct location of your nearby WiFi access points.
That is apparently done automatically by iPhones and iPads that are connected to cellular networks, can see those same access points in their WiFi, and the devices are set to send location information to Apple.
Your Mac doesn't have a GPS nor can it connect to a cellular network, so it must rely on the known locations of WiFi access points. Apparently, one of the Access Points that it sees was last recorded as being in Conway, Illinois.

and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then you delete the whole 12.0 Folder
in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Options Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
What you are reporting should not be happening as a result of moving the computer from one outlet to another. Were you having any problems with the computer before you decided to change its location?

Places location labels not accurate

I have been busy geotagging my photos using Places, but am realising now that the black bubble name is not acurately reflecting the pins geo location. For example I think I must have entered a custom name for a place entitled "whitechappel road market" (I deduce this because its all in lower case), I have a picture bearing these co-ordinates:
Lat: 56.946003°N
Lon: 2.197094°W
This picture is in Scotland but the black label says it "whitechappel road market" which is in London! This should not be happening and its my guess that its a bug and that the name used for the black label should be the closest road available.

I find that a good many images are being mislabelled like this, even ones next to other which are labelled correctly e.g. "Kew" (Kew Gardens, London), some have Kew in their black pop-up box while one or two have "whitechappel road market" ~is this because I added it as a custom label and Aperture 3 is confused?

I also get this problem with images that already contained GPS co-ordinates which bear the "whitechappel road market" black pop-up label.
*I have "repaired" my library but its still the same issue*
P.S. is there any way to edit the labels I have added manually, like I can manage my Keywords, I would like to have the same ability for Places, there's some custom stuff I want removed.

Location Services not accurate!

So I'm using my iPod 4 as I would usually do and I go on to maps to see what hotels are near me so a relative can stay for a few weeks. My iPod old me I was in Ealing, London when I was in Wigan, Lancashire. It would have been ok if it told me I was in Manchester or something but this is over 200 miles away! I'm a bit doubtful of whether it is a problem with the iPod itself or not, however. Still, if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Nothing was changed except perhaps updates from iTunes. It worked fine last week in Tenerife (it defaults to a place in Tenerife even though I am now home in Deveon!) and at my son's house some half mile away. I have searched the internet for an answer but there is plenty of querys about this subject but no solutions. Apple must be aware of this problem for a number of their customers, but there is absolutely no help from that direction - shame on them. If you try to contact them, they require payment before they will respond! Is there anyone out there (including Apple staff) who can give a simple and effective solution? lease help!

Imessage location service not accurate

i keep my location service on indefinitely but my phone is always charged. I forgot to charge it a few days ago and when it died the location showed I was somewhere completely different then where I was. Has this happened to anyone? What causes that?

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

In fact we(me & my friends) have problems to locate each others using the application "find my friends"cz the app allows access to the location only when USING IT or one of its features is VISIBLE ON SCREEN,and not when it's on the background. Therefore the location of any of my friends,shown by the app,isn't his real location,but it's his last location using the app or its features,even if it (the application) was on his background.
At other application like GLYMPSE ,the locations are so accurate cz the app allows access to our location even if it's on the background.

Location found is not accurate. It appears to be several blocks off. This is in a large city. Why would this happen?

Depends on the device. If it relies on wifi, then the router must be properly "registered" with its location in order to have the device located. The router's location may be off. If the device has GPS then the location should be accurate, although at times my location is a little off when my iPhone is travelling.

You definitely need to resurrect the old password associated with the Apple ID you used to purchase the music.

An email will be sent to the email address associated with that account with instructions regarding resetting that Apple ID's password.
If you no longer have access to that email, the resolution to this problem becomes considerably more difficult. In that event you would need to contact iTunes Support and explain your dilemma.

Windows 7 error: Location is not available or Item not found

I'm using windows 7 ultimate. I have a directory on a 1TB external usb drive called "1976 T.N.T". I am neither able to access this directory nor am I able to delete it. When I double click to access it windows says -
Message Title: "Location is not available"
Message Text: J:\Music\Library\Rock-Metal\ACDC\1976 T.N.T refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer.or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet
or your network and then try again. If it still cannot be located the information might have been moved to a different location.
When I try to delete it windows says -

This item is no longer located in J:\Music\Library\Rock-Metal\ACDC. Verify the item's location and try again.
I have tried the following -
1. Deleting file using command prompt but that doesn't work
2. Check disk with both options "File system errors" and "Bad sector recovery" selected - it does not report any errors and the problem persists
3. Rebooting the computer
4. Disconnecting the drive and connecting it to my xp pro laptop (messages on xp are slightly different but to the same effect)
Any suggestions short of formatting the drive will be appreciated.

The cause of this is as follows:
The directories in question were created or last modified by a process other than Windows Explorer. This process created a directory name with a space at the end. When you created a duplicate directory, the exact directory name you created was therefore
not exactly the same; it had no space on the end. That is why both directories with the apparent same name could coexist.
Note: if you attempt to create a directory from within Windows Explorer with a space on the end, the process explorer.exe is designed to prevent this from happening. That's why it's never usually an issue.
To reproduce this problem, you could do the following:
1) Create C:\foo
2) Create C:\bar
3) Use Robocopy to create the erroneous directory using the following command:
robocopy "C:\foo" C:\bar" /E
Notice that I missed the first double-quote on the target location. Robocopy should have responded with an error, but due to the way it interpreted my input, it didn't.
Now you will see a directory called C:\foo\bar
Except this directory is actually: "bar " - the word "bar" with a space on the end.
Now try deleting C:\foo altogether. It won't because there is a directory underneath it that has an invalid name.
Now try entering C:\foo, and creating a second directory called "bar". This will work, and there will appear to be two directories named "bar".
But this time you can go up a level and delete "C:\foo".
Put it down to a bug in Windows, a bug in Robocopy, whatever you like! That's the reason though...

My ipod shuffle will connect to itunes on computer but will not fully charge and will not play songs

My Ipod shuffle was washed in a washing machine but dried completely. Now it will connect to my itunes on my computer but will not completely charge or play songs. Can anyone tell me if this is a lost cause and I should buy a new one or is there hope that I can fix this.

Moisture will cause short circuits, so the battery is being affected. The audio output is also affected. You really can't tell if it is completely dry, on the inside. So, it's possible the current condition will improve if it is left alone to dry out for while longer. It is also possible that moisture (and short circuits) caused permanent damage.
Since it is recognized in iTunes, you can try doing a Restore (from the shuffle's Summary or Settings tab).
There is nothing else you can do (actively) to fix it, so if you want to have a usable shuffle now, you'll need to get a new one. You can leave this one alone for a month or so (in a dry well-ventilated location), and try it again. If it works, you'll have a new shuffle and a backup.

Location is not available to mapped network drive in Windows 8 using Synology NAS

I have recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 standard edition. I have come across a problem when using the option for mapped network drives. Under Windows 7 I would normally map a network drive (Synology NAS) and I could access all files, copy and paste, install
apps, and link media, all from within the mapped network drive. However, under Windows 8.1 I have come across a couple of problems.
1. When I try to copy a file from my "Mapped Network Drive" to the C:\Drive (OS Boot Drive), I get the following error,
"E:\ is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. if the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the
location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted."
However, if I copy a file from the "NETWORK/Network Location" the file copies just fine with no problems. And, If I also copy a file from a "Added Network Location" the file also copies just fine with no problems. And, if I copy a file from
my "Mapped Network Drive" to my D:\Drive (non OS Drive), the file copies just fine with no problems.
2. When I try to install apps from my "Mapped Network Drive" they will sometimes install and sometimes not (I am also choosing the option to run the programs as Administrator). Again if I try to install using either the "NETWORK/Network Location"
or an "Added Network Location" the apps install just fine with no problems.
3. When I link media (music or videos) from my "Mapped Network Drive" they will work but once I reboot they no longer work as if they have lost the file path or link of the original source location.
4. When I use FireFox (browser) and I set my default download dir to my "Mapped Network Drive" it will work once originally set it but after I reboot, it no longer works. However, again if I set the default download dir to either the "NETWORK/Network
Location" or an "Added Network Location" the default download dir works fine even after reboot.
While I am able to access my network drive using any of the three options, "Mapped Network Drive", "NETWORK/Network Location", and "Added Network Location" but only "NETWORK/Network Location", and "Added Network
Location"appear to be reliable. Tbh I would prefer to be able to use my "Mapped Network Drive" in Windows 8 as I have been able to under Windows 7.

I currently have UAC set to "Never Notify".
I also have Windows 8.1 installed on three different systems and all of them give me the same exact problems. One of the systems is a completely clean install with no 3rd party apps installed.
Just so its clear I am able to access the "Mapped Network Drive" but unfortunately this method of access appears to be unreliable in Windows 8 but in Windows 7 it works flawlessly.
If I map a network drive from another pc running windows 7 or 8, I can access and use the mapped drive with no problems. This problem appears to be related to the Synology NAS devices and I have researched the Synology forums but only found one thread about
the problem, here:

I have searched several forums and attempted to pick the brains of my local computer shops for any incite on this problem but I have been unable to find a solution/fix.
Any help resolving this is greatly appreciated.
