Trouble restarting Mac OS after using Boot Camp

I am using Mac OSx 10.6.8 and have Windows 7 on my Boot Camp. In probably 90 percent of the times I restart my Mac OS side after using Boot Camp, my computer freezes during the startup. I usually get to my desktop screen but my desktop icons don't fully load and it freezes, or if I try and open an application in my dock, I get the spinning ball of death and I have to restart.
A co-worker suggested opening in safe mode and then going to my preferences file and looking for any .plist file that appears corrupted and then deleting it before restarting. That usually works except for the times I can't find anything that looks corrupted. Also, there are times when it starts up and my dock is back to the computer's default setup. Sometimes my clock gets set to a different time as well.
On occasion, I've sometimes restarted as many as a dozen times before things kick in correctly.
I don't have any applications in the startup menu. This thing just has major problems restarting after using Boot Camp. (I have a co-worker with the same exact issue). It's a pain when I am in a hurry after using Boot Camp.
I don't have privileges to run disk utility or do anything similar so before I take it into my IT folks, I'm wondering if this is an issue with anyone else and if there is another solution.

im getting a folder with a question mark on startup after using boot camp. it shows up for a second, then the apple logo pops up and OSX boots normally. i wouldnt be concerned except this folder with the question mark usually shows up when the computer cant find the startup disk or OS. so in fact what is happening is that my macbook cant find the startup disk for a second and then seems to find it. is anybody else having this problem. i dont like it and want to get rid of it. help!!

This is correct.
I wonder how it can be that in the System Preferences - Startup Disk - OS X volume can become "deselected" like it was... I had to re-highlight the OS X volume and all is well.

Can't boot into Windows 7 after using Boot Camp

So I installed Windows 7 on a separate 70GB partition using Boot Camp. Everything seems fine, but once installation finished and the computer restarted for the final time, the computer shows the blinking "_" on the black screen and then promptly reboots and this cycle continues without end.

Sounds stuck at the Windows bootloader. It's not clear why. I would zap PRAM by holding command-option-p-r at the startup chime until you hear a 2nd startup chime. Let it boot back into Mac OS. Insert the Windows 7 install disk and reboot, holding down 'c'.

Messed up Windows 8.1 install after using Boot Camp 4 drivers

Hey guys, I just finished successfully installing Windows 8.1 on my Mac with Lion. There were no issues there, but I royally screwed up the Windows partition after trying to install the Boot Camp support software from a USB flash drive. I didn't look into it enough and am now realizing (after the fact of course) that I needed Boot Camp 5.1 for support for Windows 8.1!
I realized that something was wrong when I tried to install the drivers and software from my Boot Camp 4.0.4 and I received a prompt on Windows telling me that it expected Windows 7 instead and then asked me to run in compatibility mode to see if that works. I stupidly clicked yes and then my Windows locked the screen on me. So of course, I unlocked it and the display is all messed up with my battery indicator at the top left, most of the screen is black and a small portion on the right side is not black. It instantly locks itself again. I can only repeat the process with no way to correct it (that I know of).
Is this install of Windows 8.1 salvageable? I am getting the new drivers from Boot Camp 5.1 now, but it won't help if I can't even get to the desktop for Windows. Help!

Right - this would be the easiest thing to do. Will I have issues the Windows license being activated again? I have actually never had to reinstall before so I have never had license issues.

Lose airport connection after using boot camp and windows XP

After using windows XP on boot camp and shutting down windows and booting to Mac OS 10.5.7 I lose the airport connection and have to restart or reset my airport extreme base station. My imac 2.8 is connected to airport via ethernet. Air port is operating on 5.7 version. This is a recent development and suspect it is related to updates in windows. I do not know where to start but need to solve this problem as it interrupts the other computers on wireless. Thanks Carl

Hi there everyone !
I am facing a strange problem. I downloaded a Mountain lion Iso from internet ( ver 10.8.3) , which i made a USB disk bootable from Lion Disk Maker software. I did a clean installation. I want to install Window 7 Sp2 Ultimate 64 bit. I have already installed easily through boot camp but this time when i insert the window 7 disk and it makes partition and after restart its all black screen for which i waited may be the installer starts but it did not.
I tried to try the option key trick but there i couldnt see the Boot Camp drive which partition makes and also the when Window 7 disk appear and i click it , It restarts and again the same black screen . Please help me out , I have to use windows as I have migrated from windows.

Cant use boot camp to start computer

When i try to use boot camp to start my mac it will not work ( holding down the option button) , i just get a grey screen and thats it. If i let it boot up normally it will work fine to boot into leopard.
I dont want to use the system prefs to do this cause if it dont wont i will then be locked out of my computer till whenever, its happened before!!! lol
Any thoughts on why boot camp is not giving me an option to choose which partition to boot to?

I just gave up on trying to use windows for the most part, tried it the other day and it took about 20 minutes to boot into windows. Not sure how exactly i did it.
I have the white keyboard that came with my imac USb nothing special.
windows finally started after i hit the power button (i was going to try to boot back in to OSX)
What usually happens is i hold the option button while booting up and i some times get the option to pick an OS, when i choose windows it will let me pick it but it will never move passed this screen. thats usually when i just give up.

Then installed debian 6. Somehow after the debian install and restart (I know this sounds crazy) but I am now reduced to Win 7 only. rEFit is not present when rebooting nor is OSX or debian. Further, I am unable to force the install DVD to launch when rebooting, by holding C, D or F8. The Option key brings me to the grey screen with a padlock. I have attempted the root and local pw- no go. Restart holding D takes me to the windows boot manager. I have attempted several options within the Advanced Options; including – Repair Your computer, safe mode and “last known good config,” All of which did nothing.
I can see all my OSX files within win7. I tried to install the OSX within windows. Ya right, that did nothing..
I only desire to get back to OSX...

Yes, you royally hosed up your machine.
You should first try to get your files off, any way you can to a external drive.
Your going to need to hold c and boot from the disk that came with your computer and a couple of screens in under the menu is a option for Disk Utility.
Select your drive and Erase with Security Option Zero, format the drive HFS+ Journaled and when that's finished (about a hour or so) then quit and install OS X from the installer.
I hope this works, but I suspect it won't. Others have hosed their machines trying to use a Linux disk without proper partition formatting too.
Another option might be to use another Mac to c boot off the Snow Leopard disk and install OS X onto a external drive, take that to the problem Mac and try holding option and booting off of it to erase your internal drive.
You could replace the drive.

A lot of problems after installing Windows XP using Boot Camp on a Mac Book

I have been having a lot of problems after installing Windows XP Home Edition (2002).
For one, after installing Windows using Boot Camp with Mac OS X 10.5.1, I opened Windows on my Mac Book, inserted the Mac OS X Disk 1 as in the instructions and got the message: +"This package requires a newer version of the Windows installer. Do you want to update the version of the Windows Installer on your system?"+ When I clicked Yes (I had NO idea what it meant at the time), I got the message: "The required resource 'UPDATE' is missing" and the Installer quit.
How do I fix this problem?
Another problem I have is that there is no sound on the Windows XP, yet it works perfectly on Mac OS X. Is there any way to fix this problem?
A third problem I have is that I can't wirelessly connect to the internet using Window XP, yet I can on Mac OS X. I have no idea on how to fix this, and it's really messing with me. D:<
D: There are way too many problems, and I have a feeling there will be a lot more later on. Help....

Problem is when I choose to boot the windows partition, I get the windows icon on the screen showing that it is starting, but few second after, I get a blank screen. I suspect a driver (screen) issue, since I also installed Parallell using the boot camp partition and that works fine.
Do anybody out there has an ideal of what to do to solve this issue.

What DVDs are this ?
If it is OSX Snow Leopard Installation DVD then yes this disc contains the BootCamp Drivers version 3.x and is needed after the installation of Windows to install the BootCamp Drivers.
With OSX Lion BootCamp is at version 4.x and the BootCamp Drivers have to be downloaded during use of the BootCamp Assistant in OSX.

I'm first time mac user & recently bought the latest entry level mac mini model 2.3GHz 599$ (http://www.apple.com/macmini/specs.html).
The machine by default came with OS X Lion.
I was trying to install genuine windows 7 on my mac mini using boot camp. I had the windows installation CD the download part for windows support software was taking too long & I foolishly skipped this crucial part set aside 70GB for win7 & continued the installation. The windows installation was done successfully with no machine specific drivers installed yet. I thought I would get some grub like thing to select OS at boot time but everytime it boots to windows. Is it since I missed downloading/installing windows support software? Please help me out to get my mac back
I've not done much of googling to troubleshoot it but bit of nervous for my foolishness at skipping that downloading part.

According to the manual, I tried to create a partition of 20GB, but after several minutes I got the ´panic kernel´. (“You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button”)
After restart I can ask for the report (see problem details):
After saving the problem details, I send the report to apple (2 weeks ago).
I guessed something has happened, part of the disk was gone. However, bootcamp will not proceed further (install windows, see manual).
With a startup from the leopard DVD it is possible to fix the problems, but every time I try to use boot camp, I got the same panic kernel and messages (till now 3 times). So, it seems reproducable.
During the fixing process Disk utility says (in red, translated from dutch):
- Minor adjustments in volumebit
- elegible number of files on volume
- elegible number of volume directories
- elegible number of free blocks on volume
At the end the follwing text appears (in green):
The volume 'Martijn's schijf' is fixed
After that, no problem at all☺
Nevertheless, in this way it is not possible to install windows. I would like to ask you if this problem is already known and/or described. I have searched on the net, but most of the information in forums is too detailed for me. Therefore, I try this way first.

Reformat the drive. Disk Utility Partition, and create one new partition, don't use the current setup. Then either restore from backup or fresh install. I would clone the drive before ever starting the BootCamp Assistant process.
Most kernel panics are memory or hardware. In this case, well, lots of threads with "Partition Failure" and / or "kernel panic." A google for "Mac kernel panic" will show a number of sites with FAQs.
Disk Warrior is also a handy disk repair program. Not only backup and have a bootable clone, but one with an emergency boot volume to use instead of relying on DVD and Disk Utility, and so you are running the latest versions.
