Computer logging out on own?

Recently my Powerbook G4 15" will be running just fine, I will stop working for a bit only to come back and instead of finding it sleeping, it appears to have completely restarted or logged out on it's own. I have to log back in (as if it had been restarted rather than sleeping), and find that all applications that had previously been running, etc. must be restarted.
I have also found it w/ the message 'log-out failed'... when I didn't try to log out. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

You might check the System Preferences/Security for selecting " Log out after x minutes of inactivity." I think I had the same thing happen once and didn't think I'd selected that.

  • Optical flow rendering clip, computer logged out, missing files

I was creating a video, where some of the clips were on the iMac harddrive and some of them were on an external SeaGate harddrive.  I was waiting for an optical flow rendering of one of the clips and walked away from the computer.  Unfortunately, the computer screen saver came on and logged me out.  When I logged back in, and opened Final Cut, the only clips showing available in the library are those on the iMac.  The SeaGate files briefly appear in the event library only while final cut is loading, but once it completely loads it disappears (and can't be accessed), and all of the clips from there are showing as red "missing file."  Therefore, my video is not there.  Any suggestions on how to get back to where I was before the computer logged out? Or why the SeaGate is not available anymore?

this is what shows in the event library as fcp is loading.
once loaded it changes to this:
Here is the finder showing the seagate drive and one of the clips I used:
i ran disk utility, verify disk, both drives are working properly... all green.

  • Log out of computer -- logs out of Internet connection also?

I would like to Log out of my account for a minute, to log in again, making a GUI system enhancement work from something I did with ShapeShifter. I never log out; I always shut down the computer when I'm done with it. So the internet is always working properly when I turn the computer back on. If I log out, does the Internet connection/IP reset? Or do anything else where I would need to log in some foreign way? (foreign as in, not my regular name and password log in).
The way I need to Log out

I ask because if I need to log in some foreign way, I don't remember any of those kind of log in details, or Internet activation procedures. And I can't phone my Internet Service Provider at the moment to ask for help.
    Thx.

I answered my own question. It works regularly.

  • Message: When opening itunes it says Multiple users on computer log out

I recently bought an ipod and while transferring my cd's I noticed the tab that usually says my ipod has disappeared.I'm getting an error message that's telling me to log out since there are multiple users on the computer. I only have one account and do not know what to do without losing all my songs. Please help.

Welcome to discussions! Pac 80 is correct, this sounds like fast user switching is enabled in XP. Fast user & iTunes do not get along, so take a look at the following link.

  • Computer Logs Out when left too long...

Hi, this might be really stupid but when the computer is left for a while it tries to log out. I don't know how to turn this off, I've checked on it in energy saver and I just don't know what to change in my settings to make this not happen. Any help?
    many thanks!

Hi. You could check in System Preferences > Security > General that 'Log out after n minutes of inactivity' is not checked. Good Luck.

  • Computer logs itself into Root account after logging out of admin account

I am experiencing a problem with my laptop logging itself into the root account. I recently started having my computer log itself out of my account if I was inactive for several minutes as a security precaution. However, now I frequently return to find my computer logged out of my account, but logged into the root account. The normal login window that appears when you log out of an account appears over the desktop of the root account. Any ideas how I can stop my computer from logging in like this and making my computer even less secure than it was before?

if you create another administrator account, dose it have the same issue as the managed account? if it dose not, dose any programs open when you login as the new administrator account?

  • Eject key logs out!

Question: whenever I press the eject key on the keyboard the computer logs out (os x 10.5.5, mac pro). This happens on any type of keyboard. It does eject the drive but then all windows close and the account logs out to the login window.

The Menu Extras Eject menu button works as expected, the drive media is ejected. As do the eject buttons next the drive in the Finder > Devices list.
"drutil eject" in Terminal also works corrrectly.
The following is the log from /var/log/system.log.
I opened a new terminal shell (the first line you see in the log), then immediately pressed the Eject button.

YAY!!! Saved it in my Mac's Firefox Bookmarks for easy future access!
Hope you are having a lovely afternoon today! I'm about ready to go bobo....I have an early meeting, and I don't want to oversleep! The nice part is that I work remotely, so I only have to wake up 15 minutes or so before the meeting.... I don't even use an alarm clock anymore (really, my iPhone alarm, which is much more pleasant), unless I have to get up at 6:30 or something....

  • How do I log out of itunes on my computer and sign into a different account?

How do I log out of iTunes and sign into a different account? My mom just gave me her computer, and I need to upload my own itunes account on the mac and delete her account.

To log her out try going to the iTunes Store, click on the account name in the upper right corner, and then click "Sign Out".  Next, you'll need to sign in by clicking on the same button in the upper right and then enter  your account information. Once you're logged in I think you should be able to sync your music files or download your past purchases from the store to update your computer.

right now i share an icould with my sister's phone how do i log out of hers and make my own for my phone without deleting either of our apps etc on our phone?

You don't need to worry about apps.  You can continue to share the same ID for the iTunes and App stores but in order to create a new iCloud account you will need to use a different ID (it doesn't need to be the same as your iTunes ID).
To migrate your phone to your own account,  if you have any photos in photo stream that you want to save on your phone, open your my photo stream album and save them to the camera roll by tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  Your sister's phone will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up your new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.
Once your phone is on its own account, you can go to icloud.com on your computer, sign into your account and manually delete any of your sister's data from your account.  She can also delete any of your data from her account.

  • I have had an old computer that broke down, and I have a new one that I want to connect to Firefox Home on my iPod, yet using the same account. I have logged out of Firefox Home on my iPod, and I would like to log in again.

I would just like to be able to log in to both devices using the account, but I cant add a device on my iPod because I have logged out.

First go to your iTunes menu, STORE, login with your AppleID (if you have not done so), then Authorise your computer under the same STORE menu
Now , go to iTunes store and select "Purchased" from the Quick Links side bar on the top right window. Go through all the tabs to download again for free.

If you log out of your apple ID on your iPAD mini and let someone else use it and they use facetime.  How come it shows my facetime history and not theirs?   I do not want them to have access to my history.  How can I prevent that and they can see their own?  Or is the history associated with the iPAD mini itself and not the actual icloud user account?

    You are logging out from
    Settings -> FaceTime, right?
My guess would be though, that the FaceTime history is stored locally on the device, so anyone using it will see the entire device history (I cannot imagine that FaceTime uploads the history to an Apple server anywhere - I'm sure it is just logged locally on the device - based on my iPhone and iPad show completely different histories, for example).
