Computer meltdown after itunes upgrade

My son was purchasing a song off of itunes and we received a message that we had to upgrade our itunes in order to purchase the song. We did, and then we couldn't open itunes.
Then the whole computer locked up. It is just an apple with a spinning wheel, and it wont go any further than that.
We use an ibook G4, and I feel like an idiot, but I have no idea what system it is, I thought it was just OS X, but now I see that there are many many more.

Sounds like your problem is larger than an iTunes problem. I think you should probably post over in the OS X forum and see if someone there has a suggestion for you. The only thing I can suggest at this point is to try holding the power button for about 6 to 10 seconds...until it powers down...then maybe it will boot up this time. If that doesn't work, I'd post over in the other forum.
Good luck.

  • Imprting cd tracks shuts my computer down after Itunes upgrade

Updated to the latest Itunes 6.5. Anytime I try to rip songs and add them to my playlist, it shuts my computer down. Was not a problem on previous version of Itunes. I've tried 10 different cds and each one does the same thing. Any suggestions, or anyone know how to download an older version of Itunes? I searched the site, but it keeps sending me to the download page for Itunes 6.5. Thanks

Sounds like some conflict in your system. Try going to the PC makers site, MANUALLY looking for updates to your model and downloading all updates they offer, especailly BIOs, chipset and firmware for the CD ROM.
I say to manually look because some PC makers have some kind of "Auto update" software on the PC or there web site and they usually can not pick up the BIOs and things like it so even if theres an update you need it won't show it
Do you get any flash of a blue screen with an error code when this happens?

  • TS1453 after itunes upgraded to latest 11.0.2.26 apple tv (1st gen)does not show up anywhere in itunes

After Itunes upgraded to latest version 11.0.2.26 Apple TV (1st gen) does not show up anywhere in Itunes

I have the same problem. It was working fine up until the last update for iTunes 11.0.2
    Here's the details:
I have an Apple TV - first Gen and up until a couple of weeks ago, was regularly playing sync'd iTunes music and videos through it on a daily basis.
I see other devicess showing up in the "Devices" list in the left panel of iTunes (such as iPad, iPhone, etc.)
AppleTV used to be there consistently, then disappeared upon update to 11.0.2
Apple TV also does not show up in the devices tab under the Preferences window.
I have tried multiple suggestions on the support forum but none have worked.
Apple TV is able to access the network, is on the same network as the iMac with iTunes library connected. Both are connected to network via ethernet cable (not wifi). Both are able to access the internet (apple tv plays movie prieviews and gets updates). Using the Terminal app, I am able to ping the apple TV's IP number from the iMac and get a successful return.
    Both have latest software downloads.
I have tried cold-booting the apple TV, resetting the router, and verified in the router device list that both imac and appleTV are listed as active, un-blocked connections.
I don't intend to buy an Apple TV 2nd gen or later (since I bought this one and it's not working now due to software update, what guarantee that a later model won't generate the same problem later.
One last wrinkle, I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old who are jonesing hard for their "dance party" fix.
Have you ever wronged a two year old?
    It is NOT pretty.
Help me Apple-wan-kenobi...I can't take the screaming!

  • 'Lost' media After ITunes Upgrade

Hi - I have an older computer and have saved my ITunes library to an external harddrive owing to capacity limitations on my system. I recently updated ITunes to the latest version and it changed the media file location back to the main unit C:Drive, from the external F:Drive I was using. I did not notice this for a while, until updating my iPhone it said lots of files were unlocated. Anything downloaded or added after the upgrade is fine, but all material (95%) from before is stuck on the external drive. I need to get all the new stuff onto the external drive and then run that as my media file location.
Please help an absolute computer duffer learn what to do!

If you read through the original thread that I linked to I mention that there might be a problem with the way the script generates the File Open dialog box. I don't have a Vista/Windows 7 system but hopefully I've now updated the script in a way which is supposed to work on Vista/Win 7 (but which I can't test on XP) and trapped the error so that if a file browse dialog isn't generated you get a file path to edit.
You can correct the location of the media path in *Edit > Preferences > Advanced*. If your media is already/still there in the standard iTunes folders then iTunes may even reconnect to it automatically.
If not then my script should help. It first tries to establish the proper location of your iTunes Media folder by scanning up to 100 files for ones that can be located and derives the path to the media folder from the location of the file. When I have time this could be updated to prompt the user if the automated scan is unable to work it out.
The script then processes the selected tracks or playlist, and for those files that can't currently be located by iTunes attempts to track them down at *<iTunes Media Folder>\<Media Type>\<Album Artist>\<Album>\## <Name>.<ext>*. If it finds a file at the expected location it will either reconnect iTunes to it automaticaly or will prompt for confirmation depending on your initial choice when you run the script.
If it still can't find the file it will attempt to get you to browse for it or edit it's current best guess.
As a rule don't move any files by hand. iTunes only gets confused. Once iTunes "knows" where all your files are you can consolidate to your chosen media folder, which copies anything currently outside of the iTunes media folder inside it. You can delete the original copies that are outside of the iTunes Media folder, e.g. on a differnt drive, once you've confirmed that all is well.

  • Phone frozen after itunes upgrade

Ran the itunes upgrade today. My phone was connected to the computer at the time. Got a text message during the intall and called a friend. Phone has been frozen ever since. Tried to do a restore but cannot. Get an error saying the phone is in "recovery mode". When I run the restore get an "unknown error" message. The only thing that is visible on my screen is the itune logo and the usb cable, suggesting I should connect the phone to itunes. Followed all the suggestion to restore on two computers and no dice! What up Apple?!

if you have taken back up of the iphone before you attempted software update, then yuor photoes are already in itunes as back up. After getting it jailbroken, i synced my phone with itunes and got all the data, including games, data, emails and everything from itunes.
So iOS 6 has issues with software, rather i feel apple has done it with an intention so that people can replace the same handset for USD 200.
hi Apple team, please dont penalise customer for bugs in your software. There are millions you trust you as company of repute, I am unfortuanetly happy after jailbreaking iphone 3GS.

  • After iTunes upgrade songs are deleted from iPod

Last night I was prompted to upgrade iTunes, and I complied and did the upgrade. Today when I went to the gym at lunch I noticed that all but 2 of my Exercise playlist songs were gone from the iPod. They still show up on my laptop in iTunes, but they aren't on my iPod anymore. This happened after the software upgrade and nothing else has changed. I agreed to let iTunes be the default multimedia player when I did the upgrade. Also, the iTunes software says "Update complete" but the iPod itself NEVER stops synching up and always has the message "Do not disconnect." I also receive a message saying "Some of the songs were not copied to the iPod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." BUT I DID PURCHASE THE SONGS, FROM ITUNES EVEN. ALL THE SONGS STILL SHOW UP IN MY PURCHASED ITUNES FOLDER! So it's the same laptop I've always had, same one I originally loaded the software too and same one that I purchased the songs from, and the same iPod, and yet now when I sync them it says I'm not allowed to have those songs. Please FIX THIS!!!!! It's really irritating to me to have to spend time on this, and even more irritating to me that I had to sign up for TWO NEW ACCOUNTS just to only be able to use a discussion board for technical assistance caused by YOUR SOFTWARE.
    IBM Thinkpad   Windows XP Pro

If you play a song from your I-Tunes Library that you bought since your update, it should prompt you to reauthorize the computer. After this you will be able to add those songs to your IPOD by clicking update. I think this is a poor design. It took me doing it a few times to figure out what was going on. I-Tunes could be totally user friendly, if first apple would poll users first instead of letting those dipstick progammers have all the input into I-Tunes. I would guess that Apple loses 3 customers for every one gained due to the number of problems they have with each "New" I-Tunes release. But hey Mr. Jobs just tracks profits and sales. Not concerned about the user who can't play his music.

  • After iTunes upgrade, iTunes not playing music in Windows 8.

I just upgraded to the latest version of iTunes (ver. 1.1.2.31) on Windows 8.1. The prior version of iTunes worked fine, but after this upgrade, it won't play music. No error message, and it will play music videos. It says it's playing, and I can click from play to pause, but no sound comes out, and the bar doesn't scroll (so it's not advancing beyond 0:00 on the time of the song). Sound is fine on my computer, and I've even reinstalled iTunes. I also tried changing it to run as if on Windows 7. Nothing works. Any ideas?

Not sure why this worked, but I dragged my old iTunes Library file and iTunes Music Library.xml from the old computer into the new one, and it automatically worked. Weird fix, but I'm happy nonetheless.

  • Music Gone from 1st Gen Apple TV after iTunes upgrade to 10.1.1 (4)

I use a 1st Gen Apple TV to store and play all my music throughout my home. It's perfect for that because I don't have to stream from my computer (as with 2nd Gen Apple TV) and can control the music from all over the house from the Remote App on my iPad and iPhone. After I upgraded to iTunes 10.1.1 this week I synced my Apple TV with my computer to add some new music to it from iTunes. All of my music promptly disappeared from my Apple TV. It may have still been there, but didn't show in iTunes on my computer or on my iPad or iPhone remote apps.
My first thought was that I might have to do a restore on the Apple TV and then re-sync with my computer's iTunes. Before doing that, however, I simply re-synced all of my music to the Apple TV from my computer. It worked and now all of the music is available again.

    had the same problem once
went to the appletv's settings and unlinked it with the computer
let it do it's restart and clear synced data
set it up to link with the same computer once more
and let it sync the data once more
    haven't have issues since
but described the solution to many in this forum who had the same issue

  • Mac mini disaster after iTunes upgrade

    Hi,
I've got an Intel mac mini. The hardware test shows it to be a Macmini2,1 with a Intel Core 2 Duo, 1.83GHz, 2MB L2 and 1 gig memory. No hard drive info shown.
The short version of the story is I can no longer boot my machine. It makes it past the grey apple screen and then sits on the blank blue screen forever. Booting in Verbose mode gives me lots of text which means little to me but mostly seems okay. This is followed by blank blue screens alternating with black screens with ominous messages in which something called 'importer' and Loginwindow.app are featured prominently, with the word 'crash' strewn about quite a bit.
    The lead-in:
I recently upgraded to iTunes 8 after being prompted to do so by the auto update feature. I can't remember for sure whether I did it before or after the upgrade, but I changed the sharing name for this computer and the external drive where my iTunes library is stored. After the install I tried closing iTunes and got the spinning pie. I tried to access Force Quit from the apple icon but it didn't respond. I occasionally could get iTunes calm enough to access it's menu but it didn't have the Quit iTunes menu option listed, which I found really odd. It wasn't greyed out, it just wasn't there. Ultimately I hit the power switch and it hasn't worked since. I've tried various key combinations on start up, including the pram and nvram ones. I tried booting from the install CD but it says Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer.
Anyone with any tips or fixes would be a hero in my book.
    Thanks,
    Mike

You don't go to the install screen.
Boot into the DVD and after the language screen, top left is a menu. In menu, under Utilities, select disk utility and repair HD and permissions.

  • Vista video playback problems after iTunes upgrade

Itunes worked perfectly with my Vista OS prior to the recent upgrade. Since installing the upgrade, videos will not play (I just get a blank screen) and I am bombarded with messages about "authorizing this computer" every time I try to view one. I authorize the computer using the Itunes "store" link, and then get another request to authorize the computer with every replay request. After "authorizing" again and again, I still get a blank screen. The scroller indicates the video is playing, but there is no picture. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes, including the Vista "repair" option, but still have the same problem. I followed all the instructions--including using the "show artwork" option in the "View" link---nothing helps. Is it possible to uninstall the "upgrade" and reinstall the prior version of Itunes, which worked just fine????

ADDENDUM: The exact same problems (repeated requests to authorize computer, blank playback screen) occur when I try to preview any video, so the issue is not related to any specific video purchase. The preview "plays", but there is no video picture.

  • After iTunes upgrade, calendar and bookmarks no longer update during sync

After completing the most recent iTunes upgrade, my phone will complete a backup and seems to go through the sync process. However, the calendar items and bookmarks will not update with any changes that were applied in Outlook or Internet Explorer. Also, previously, I would receive a "syncing calendar" message (or something similar) during the process, and that no longer occurs.

same problem here after itunes 9.1 update. seems to be a common problem:

  • Unable to Turn on Home Sharing after iTunes upgrade

After the latest iTunes upgrade onYosemite, I get an 'Unable to Turn on Home Sharing' error on my 2 Apple TVs plus iPhone and iPad.  Previously, I had no problem.  I have restarted and reset my iTune on my MacBook plus all the devices now receiving an error message and the inability to utilize Home Sharing.
I can send videos to my Apple TVs from my MacBook through AirPlay, so this is not a network error.

  • IWeb not opening after iTunes Upgrade

This evening I downloaded the update for iTunes, now 8.2.1 (6), and since then I have been unable to open iWeb using either the application shortcut in the Dock or via Finder. The iWeb toolbar appears but attempting to click on any of the menu items simply produces the multi-coloured wheel.
Before the iTunes upgrade was installed I had never had a problem with iWeb or any of the other applications.

iTunes is the biggest pain on a Mac and I have it set not to open! I haven't updated for so long that I can't remember if a restart is required.
If you didn't do a restart after upgrading, follow the steps under "Fix iWeb" here...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/WebMusic/iWebTips.html
I always restart after updating any Apple software and do it at least a couple of times a week and then run Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Macs are fairly bomb proof but they do need routine maintenance. I run an weekly incremental backup to a bootable external firewire hard drive every week using Super Duper. This application automatically repairs permissions and then I do a restart.
Time machine makes us lazy in this respect!

  • Problems after itunes upgrade.

I recently upgraded itunes to the current version on two of my windows/xp pc's.
On the first one I didn't have any problems.
On the second one, after the pc rebooted, all of the personal settings for the administrator account that was used to do the upgrade were gone, and the itunes library for the account was gone.
After some looking around on the pc, I found that the path for My Documents for the account had been changed from C:\Documents and Settings\account_name\My Documents to C:\Document and Settings\TEST\My Documents.
Everything under the original path for the account is still there, so all I need to do is get the My Documents path pointed back to where it originally was, but when I try to do this, I get a message saying that the path I am trying to point to is not authorized.
Does anyone know why the itunes upgrade would have changed the My Documents path? And does anyone know how I can change it back to where it should be pointing to?

    Good news
I had no problems updating my ipod and iphone to iOS4. But all I wanted was the folder option, I knew that my 3G does not support multitasking due to the slower CPU and build in memory.
Here's a little help to decide about your update, in case you haven't see this yet.
    Enjoy your ipod.
    Compatibility
The iOS 4 Software Update works with the second- and third-generation iPod touch. Not all features are compatible with all devices.
Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking, custom wallpaper, and Bluetooth keyboard support are available only with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).
Multitasking is available with apps that have been developed to work with iOS 4.
Books are available on the iBookstore. Title availability is subject to change.
Faces works only with iPhoto on the Mac.
